Аннотация: The process of dendritic crystallization of Co and Fe films is investigated. Electron-diffraction methods show that fractal growth of dendrites in Co and Fe films proceeds by multiple twinning of the elements of a nanostructure consisting of different clusters with close-packing. The formation of superstructures is explained by a shell model of a cluster structure forming nanocrystallites. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация: The structural and magnetic properties of granular Co–In2O3 nanocomposite films formed by vacuum annealing of In/Co3O4 film bilayers at a temperature of 550°C have been investigated. The synthesized Co–In2O3 films contain ferromagnetic cobalt nanoclusters with an average size of 60 nm and a magnetization of ~340 emu/cm3 surrounded by the In2O3 layer and exhibit the thermally activated conductivity.

Аннотация: The inelastic electron scattering cross section spectra of Fe have been calculated based on experimental spectra of characteristic reflection electron energy loss as dependences of the product of the inelastic mean free path by the differential inelastic electron scattering cross section on the electron energy loss. It has been shown that the inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra have certain advantages over the electron energy loss spectra in the analysis of the interaction of electrons with substance. The peaks of energy loss in the spectra of characteristic electron energy loss and inelastic electron scattering cross sections have been determined from the integral and differential spectra. It has been shown that the energy of the bulk plasmon is practically independent of the energy of primary electrons in the characteristic electron energy loss spectra and monotonically increases with increasing energy of primary electrons in the inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra. The variation in the maximum energy of the inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra is caused by the redistribution of intensities over the peaks of losses due to various excitations. The inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra have been analyzed using the decomposition of the spectra into peaks of the energy loss. This method has been used for the quantitative estimation of the contributions from different energy loss processes to the inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra of Fe and for the determination of the nature of the energy loss peaks. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: The structure and magnetic properties of CoPt–Al2O3 nanocomposite films synthesized by the annealing of Al/(Co3O4 + Pt) bilayers on a MgO(001) substrate at 650°C in vacuum are investigated. The synthesized composite films contain ferromagnetic CoPt grains with an average size of 25–45 nm enclosed in a nonconducting Al2O3 matrix. The saturation magnetization (Ms ~ 330 G) and coercivity (Hc ≈ 6 kOe) of the films are measured in the film plane and perpendicular to it. The obtained films are characterized by a spatial rotational magnetic anisotropy, which makes it possible to arbitrarily set the easy magnetization axis in the film plane or perpendicular to it using a magnetic field stronger than the coercivity (H ˃ Hc).

Аннотация: We have reported on the results of a complex investigation of iron disilicide FeSi2 using characteristic electron energy loss spectroscopy, inelastic electron scattering cross section spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It has been shown that the main peak in the spectra of inelastic electron scattering for FeSi2 is a superposition of two unresolved peaks, viz., surface and bulk plasmons. An analysis of the fine structure of the spectra of inelastic electron scattering cross section by their decomposition into Lorentzlike Tougaard peaks has made it possible to quantitatively estimate the contributions of individual energy loss processes to the resulting spectrum and determine their origin and energy. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: Iron disilicide is widely used in creation of such nanotechnology devices as photoelectric converters. The investigation of iron silicide FeSi2 with the method of inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectroscopy was carried out. The decomposition of inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra of FeSi2 to bulk and surface energy loss components using factor analysis was carried out. The amplitude of energy loss components can be used for identification of their origin.

Аннотация: The Faraday effect (FE) was studied in Co-Sm-O composite films consisting of nanoparticles of metallic cobalt embedded in a samarium oxide dielectric matrix. The volume of the magnetic phase was similar to 60%. The FE spectral dependence for the condensates studied revealed a substantial change as compared to that for bulk cobalt samples, as well as for the films of nanocrystalline Co and CoSm films prepared in this study. Аннотация: Study of the mechanisms of the solid-state reactions in Sn/Fe/Cu thin films is interesting both from a fundamental point of view and from a view of the importance of emerging intermetallics in the technology of solder joints and thin-film lithium-ion batteries. By the integrated approach, including both X-ray phase analysis and local elemental analysis of the cross-sections of the films, the phase composition and the mutual arrangement of phases were studied, at various stages of the solid-state reaction occurring at different temperatures. The observed sequence of the appearing phases differs significantly from the expected one if the mass transfer took place by a volume diffusion through the forming layers.

It is shown that inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra have certain advantages in the study of the interaction of electrons with the substance as compared to the electron energy loss spectra. The inelastic electron scattering cross section spectra fine structure was analysed by fitting the experimental spectra using the 3 parameters Lorentzian-type formula of Tougaard. Аннотация: Solid state reactions between Ge and Mn films are systematically examined using X-ray diffraction, photoelectron spectroscopy, and magnetic and electrical measurements. The films have a nominal atomic ratio Ge:Mn = 20:80 and are investigated at temperatures from 50 to 500 °C. It is established that after annealing at ~ 120°C, the ferromagnetic Mn5Ge3 phase is the first phase to form at the 20Ge/80Mn interface. As the annealing temperature increases to 300°C, the weak magnetic Mn5Ge 2 + Mn3Ge phases simultaneously begin to grow and they become dominant at 400°C. Increasing the annealing temperature to 500°C leads to the formation of the ferromagnetic phase with a Curie temperature TC ~ 350-360 K and magnetization 14-25 kA/m at room temperature. The X-ray diffraction study of the samples shows the reflections from the Mn 5Ge3 phase, and the photoelectron spectra contain the oxygen and carbon peaks. The homogeneous distribution of oxygen and carbon over the sample thickness suggests that the increased Curie temperature and magnetization are related to the migration of C and O atoms into the Mn 5Ge3 lattice and the formation of the Nowotny phase Mn5Ge3CxOy. The initiation temperature (~ 120 C) is the same in the Mn5Ge3 phase with the solid-state reactions in the Ge/Mn films as well as in the phase separation in the GexMn1 - x diluted semiconductors. Thus, we conclude that the synthesis of the Mn5Ge3 phase is the moving force for the spinodal decomposition of the GexMn 1 - x diluted semiconductors.

Аннотация: The solid-state reaction between epitaxial hcp-Co (110) and fcc-Co (001) thin films and Pd layers was investigated at annealing temperatures between 250 and 650 °C using X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. No significant intermixing of the layers occurs at annealing temperatures below 400 °C. For the atomic composition 1Co:1Pd after annealing at 450 °C the disordered solid solution fcc-CoxPd1-x is formed on the Pd/hcp-Co (110) and Pd/fcc-Co (001) interfaces. Epitaxial relationships CoPd (110)〈-111〉 || MgO(001)〈100〉 and CoPd (001)〈100〉 || MgO(001)〈100〉 between the nucleated disordered phase CoPd and the substrate MgO(001) were determined for Pd/hcp-Co (110) and Pd/fcc-Co (001) bilayers, respectively. The first magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant of the disordered CoPd phase ​​K1CoPd = - (1.8 ± 0.4)·104 J/m3 for the (110) and (001) orientations was obtained.

Аннотация: The evolution of the structural and magnetic properties in epitaxial film systems Co/Pt(111) of equiatomic composition during vacuum annealing has been presented. Annealing to the temperature of 400°C does not lead to the variation of the structural and magnetic properties of the films, which indicates the absence of considerable mixing of the Co/Pt interface. With the increase in the annealing temperature from 400 to 750°C, nanoclusters containing the main magnetically hard L10CoPt(111) phase epitaxially intergrown with the CoPt3 phase are formed. High rotatable magnetic anisotropy has been found in the prepared films. In magnetic fields above the coercive force (H > HC = 8 kOe), the easy anisotropy axis with the angle of lag taken into account can be oriented in any spatial direction. Possible mechanisms of the formation of the rotatable magnetic anisotropy have been discussed. It has been assumed that the high rotatable magnetic anisotropy makes the main contribution to the magnetic perpendicular anisotropy in CoxPt1–x films. © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: The phase composition of nanocrystalline Co(C) films obtained by a new pulsed plasma vaporization technique was found by studying their atomic structure and magnetic properties. The films deposited at the substrate temperature T = 50 degreesC were of heterophase structure and consisted of a supersaturated solid Co(C) solution and the metastable Co3C carbide. The films obtained at T = 150 degreesC represented a mechanical mixture of the metastable Co3C and Co2C carbides. The metastable Co3C and Co2C carbides obtained in a nanocrystalline state were high-pressure phases (similar to 100 kbar). The thermal stability ranges of these metastable phases were determined.
