biodegradable -- drug delivery systems -- microparticles
Аннотация: The wide use of pesticides in agriculture has caused uncontrolled distribution of these chemicals in the environment, calling for the development and investigation of new environmentally friendly formulations, which would reduce human impact on nature. In the present study, the metribuzin (MET), tribenuron-methyl (TBM), and fenoxaprop-P-ethyl (FPE) herbicides were encapsulated in microparticles of degradable microbial polymers – polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) – of two types – poly-3-hydroxybutyrate [P(3HB)] and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate [P(3HB/3HV)]. The use of P(3HB) resulted in higher yields of microparticles (63% to 79%) and larger sizes of the particles, whose average diameter was 0.60 ± 0.06–0.75 ± 0.11 μm, while the average diameter of copolymer particles varied between 0.43 ± 0.12 and 0.55 ± 0.05 μm. Encapsulation efficiency was rather determined by the type of herbicide and its solubility, varying from 24.7% to 48.2%. In vitro herbicide release from microparticles to water was affected by herbicide solubility and PHA chemical composition. The readily soluble MET showed the highest release rate, and over 30 days, 64% and 78% of the encapsulated amounts were released from P(3HB) and P(3HB/3HV) microparticles, respectively. High herbicidal activity of microparticles loaded with metribuzin and tribenuron-methyl was demonstrated in the laboratory stands of the Elsholtzia ciliata weed plant.

PMMA opal -- Photonic crystal -- Electron microscopy -- Angular resolved reflective spectroscopy
Аннотация: PMMA opal crystal was prepared by a simple hybrid method, which includes sedimentation, meniscus formation and evaporation. We investigated three surfaces of this crystal by angle-resolved reflective light spectroscopy and SEM study. The angle-resolved reflective measurements were carried out in the 400–1100 nm range. We have determined the high-quality ordered surface of the crystal region. Narrow particle size distribution of the surface has been revealed. The average particle diameter obtained with SEM was nearly 361 nm. The most interesting result was that reflectivity of the surface turned out up to 98% at normal light incidence. Using a fit of dependences of the maximum reflectivity wavelength from an angle based on the Bragg–Snell law, the wavelength of maximum 0° reflectivity, the particle diameter and the fill factor have been determined. For the best surface maximum reflectivity wavelength of a 0° angle was estimated to be 869 nm. The particle diameter and fill factor were calculated as 372 nm and 0.8715, respectively. The diameter obtained by fitting is in excellent agreement with the particle diameter obtained with SEM. The reflectivity maximum is assumed to increase significantly when increasing the fill factor. We believe that using our simple approach to manufacture PMMA opal crystals will significantly increase the fabrication of high-quality photonic crystal templates and thin films

Critical current -- Anizotropy -- BSCCO -- Texture -- Distribution function -- Magnetization -- Hysteresis loop
Аннотация: A misalignment of anisotropic crystallites causes small values of anisotropy and decreases the critical current density of textured polycrystalline superconductors. To relate the crystallite misalignment and out-plane anisotropy, the magnetic properties of the textured Bi2223 polycrystalline superconductor were investigated. A distribution of orientation angles of crystallites was determined using different data: scanning electron microscopy images and hysteresis magnetization loops when an external magnetic field was applied at different angles with respect to the texturing plane of the sample. It was demonstrated that the standard deviation of the distribution and the magnetic disorder angle of crystallites in textured samples can be determined from the magnetization data in perpendicular directions. These data may be either the irreversible magnetization measured for two different orientations of the sample or the simultaneously measured magnetization projections parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic field.

Перевод заглавия: Асимметричное резонансное поглощение света в микроструктуре хлоропласта
Аннотация: It is shown that in the chloroplast periodic structure with a defect, the resonant absorption of light can be implemented. It is found that the resonant light absorption depends significantly on the position of a defect. In terms of the absorption of light energy, an asymmetric resonator is more efficient than a symmetric one.

МАХ phases -- chromium germanides -- epitaxial thin films -- Auger electron spectroscopy -- magnetron sputtering co-deposition
Аннотация: Auger electron spectroscopy was used to determine the phase composition of Cr2GeC MAX phase thin films. A distinctive feature of the formation of carbon-containing MAX phases is the shape of carbon Auger peaks, which is characteristic of metal carbides spectra. Features of the Auger spectra in the presence of secondary phases of chromium germanides are found. Their presence can manifest itself in an increase in the energy of the germanium peaks, which is caused by a chemical shift during the formation of the Cr–Ge bond. Moreover, we have detected the accumulation of electronic charge, which can be explained by the features of the surface morphology.

bacterial cellulose -- composites -- production -- properties
Аннотация: The synthesis of bacterial cellulose (BC) by Komagataeibacter xylinus strain B-12068 was investigated on various C-substrates, under submerged conditions with stirring and in static surface cultures. We implemented the synthesis of BC on glycerol, glucose, beet molasses, sprat oil, and a mixture of glucose with sunflower oil. The most productive process was obtained during the production of inoculum in submerged culture and subsequent growth of large BC films (up to 0.2 m2 and more) in a static surface culture. The highest productivity of the BC synthesis process was obtained with the growth of bacteria on molasses and glycerol, 1.20 and 1.45 g/L per day, respectively. We obtained BC composites with silver nanoparticles (BC/AgNPs) and antibacterial drugs (chlorhexidine, baneocin, cefotaxime, and doripenem), and investigated the structure, physicochemical, and mechanical properties of composites. The disc-diffusion method showed pronounced antibacterial activity of BC composites against E. coli ATCC 25922 and S. aureus ATCC 25923.
