Аннотация:
Self-assembly of nanoparticles under the action of laser field can be an universal method for the formation of nanostructures with specific properties for application in sensorics and nanophotonics. For prognosis of the self-assembly processes, the model of movement of an ensemble of nanoparticles in a viscous media under the action of laser radiation with the account for interaction of laser-induced polarizations and Brownian dynamics is developed. This model is applied to the investigation of the self-assembly process of a triple of nanoparticles into three-particle structure with a predetermined geometry.Two specific cases of formation of nanostructure from a preliminarily formed pair of particles are studied: either for the pair fixed in space or from the unfixed pair of nanoparticles. The geometry of resulting nanostructures is shown to be determined by the polarization direction of laser radiation and the laser wavelength. Under proper choice of these parameters the formation of structures is shown to be highly efficient. E. g., maximum probability of structures formation is as hig as 36–46% per single laser pulse of 10 ns duration. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация:
Cerenkov nonlinear diffraction of femtosecond pulses in one-dimensional nonlinear photonic crystal of strontium tetraborate was studied theoretically and experimentally in both frequency and time domains. Spectral features of second harmonic radiation were measured in the course of mapping the nonlinear photonic crystal structure. The local second harmonic spectrum demonstrates complex angular behavior within the beam cross section. The spectral width of the second harmonic radiation is found to be fundamental beam size-dependent, and optimal focusing should be used for exact conversion of the fundamental spectrum into the second harmonic one. Experimental results are in excellent agreement with calculations. Maximum second harmonic generation efficiency was up to 2.1% at pumping by a femtosecond oscillator. The properties of NPC structures in strontium tetraborate are analyzed. Different types of NPC structures are revealed that possess different nonlinear properties, and their spectral dependences of frequency conversion efficiency are calculated and compared. Experimental study of these structures is reported for the process of doubling of the second harmonic of fs Ti:S laser. Tuning of generated radiation is obtained in the range 187.5 - 232.5 nm, with extreme insensitivity to the angular orientation of NPC. Behavior of tuning curve along investigated fundamental wave range is similar in all studied samples, but efficiency obtained depends on the type of structure. Conversion efficiency and spectral quality of generated radiation is experimentally shown to grow better when using NPC with improved structure. Prospects of VUV converter on a single NPC are discussed. NPCs of SBO are demonstrated to be useful for autocorrelation diagnostics both in random QPM geometry and in the geometry of nonlinear diffraction from virtual beam.

Аннотация:
Noncollinear random quasi-phase-matched frequency doubling in nonlinear photonic crystal (NPC) of strontium tetraborate (SBO) can be used for background-free autocorrelation measurements of ultrashort pulses in wide spectral range without any angular tuning of nonlinear photonic crystal. Nonuniformity of reciprocal superlattice vectors spectrum of random structure does not affect the accuracy of measurement. Nonlinear photonic crystals of strontium tetraborate are attractive medium for cross-correlation measurements in deep and vacuum ultraviolet. VC 2011 American Institute of Physics. Аннотация:
The possibility of controlling the aggregation stability of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) stabilized by thioglycolic acid (TGA) is important for implementation of quasi-resonant laser-induced self-assembly. This study examines the influence of irradiation by the UV as well as by the visible light on the photostimulated aggregation of QDs. Different photochemical mechanisms are identified, depending on whether light wavelength falls into an interband transition or the first exciton transition. Irradiation by visible light does not lead to changes in the absorption spectra but decreases luminescence intensity through the detachment of TGA and the formation of dangling bonds, leading to the creation of radiativeless relaxation centers. UV irradiation (in the 300–370 nm range), at an intensity of 0.4 W/cm2, initially (during the first 75 min) leads to the degradation of the stabilizer and QDs’ surface. After 75 min of combined UV and visible light irradiation, a gradual increase in spontaneous aggregation takes place, testifying excessive decrease in stabilizing potential barrier height. Hence, the laser-induced self-assembly of CdTe QDs is recommended to be performed over a time period of between 80 and 100 min after the beginning of low-intensity UV irradiation under conditions equivalent to those applied in this study. © 2016, Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

Novel concepts of nonlinear-optical (NLO) photonic metamaterials (MMs) are proposed. They concern with greatly enhanced coherent NLO energy exchange between ordinary and backward waves (BWs) through the frequency-conversion processes. Two different classes of materials which support BWs are considered: crystals that support optical phonons with negative group velocity and MMs with specially engineered spatial dispersion. The possibility to replace plasmonic NLO MMs enabling magnetic response at optical frequencies, which are very challenging to engineer, by the ordinary readily available crystals, are discussed. The possibility to mimic extraordinary NLO frequency-conversion propagation processes attributed to negative-index MMs (NIMs) is shown in some of such crystals, if optical phonons with negative group velocity and a proper phase-matching geometry are implemented. Here, optical phonons are used as one of the coupled counterparts instead of backward electromagnetic waves (BEMWs). The appearance of BEMWs in metaslabs made of carbon nanotubes, the possibilities and extraordinary properties of BW second harmonic generation in such MMs is another option of nonmagnetic NIMs, which is described too. Among the applications of the proposed photonic materials is the possibility of creation of a family of unique BW photonic devices such as frequency doubling metamirror and Raman amplifiers with greatly improved efficiency.
