Аннотация: The morphology and magnetic properties as well as adsorption capacity and catalytic activity of Fe3O4-Ag nanoparticles synthesized by the solvothermal method were studied in dependence on the duration of the thermolysis process (3, 6, and 8 h). X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy measurements showed that the morphology of nanoparticles changed strongly as the duration of thermolysis increased. At 6 and 8 h duration, Fe3O4 nanocrystals grow and assemble into porous spherical globules with an Ag core (samples 2 and 3). These samples demonstrate high magnetization value and very low coercivity. The adsorption capacity of nanoparticles was studied with respect to two organic dyes: cationic methylene blue (MB) and anionic Congo red (CR). The particles showed preferential adsorption of the cationic dye. High catalytic activity towards four dyes: MB, methyl orange (MO), CR, and Rhodamine C (RhC) at the presence of NaBH4 is the remarkable property of these samples. The rate constant of the catalytic reaction was 1.4 min−1. Simultaneous exposure of CR and MO dyes to nanoparticles and NaBH4 caused their irreversible 100 % degradation while in the case of MB and RhC, a transition to their leuco form occurred.

Аннотация: The present study describes the synthesis of silver and zinc oxide nanobactericides from the phytogenic source Bupleurum aureum The synthesized nanobactericides were characterized and evaluated for bio-functionalization onto bacterial cellulose membrane which was synthesized by Komagataeibactencylinus B-12068 culture strain. The synthesis of nanobacterides were initially confirmed using UV-Visible spectroscopy which indicated localized surface resonance (LSPR) peaks at 415 nm for silver nanobactericides and 280 nm for zinc nanobactericides. The nature of the capping agent for synthesized nanobactericides was predicted using FTIR which confirmed the presence of functional moieties. XRD analysis revealed their crystalline nature while morphological characteristics were studied using TEM which confirmed the polydispersity of nanobactericides with the average size in the range of 20-25 nm. The nanobactericides were tested for their antimicrobial activity against seven multi-drug resistant pathogens which were clinically isolated from patients suffering from a myriad of microbial infections. The tested pathogens had antimicrobial resistance to ten different antibiotics and have been reported to be the major cause of nosocomial infections. The nanobactericides displayed significant activity against the test pathogens. Silver nanobactericides showed the highest activity against Escherichia coli strain 55 with a 24 mm zone of inhibition while zinc oxide nanobactericides displayed the highest activity against methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) with a 20 mm inhibition zone. The bio- functionalized cellulose films (BCF) were characterized using SEM along with physicochemical analysis. The BCF's were evaluated for anti-bacterial activity against test pathogens which resulted in marked antimicrobial potential against multi-drug resistant bacteria and therefore has the potential to be utilized as an efficient alternative to counter drug resistant pathogens.

Аннотация: Core–shell FexOy@C nanoparticles (NPs) modified with Ag were studied with x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive elemental mapping, Mössbauer spectroscopy, static magnetic measurements, and optical magnetic circular dichroism (MCD). FexOy@C NPs synthesized by the pyrolysis process of the mixture of Fe(NO3)3 centerdot 9H2O with oleylamine and oleic acid were added to a heated mixture of oleylamine and AgNO3 in different concentrations. The final product was a mixture of iron oxide crystalline NPs in an amorphous carbon shell and Ag crystalline NPs. The iron oxide NPs were presented by two magnetic phases with extremely close crystal structures: Fe3O4 and γ-Fe2O3. Ag is shown to form crystalline NPs located very close to the iron oxide NPs. An assumption is made about the formation of hybrid FexOy@C-Ag NPs. Correlations were obtained between the Ag concentration in the fabricated samples, their magnetic properties and the MCD spectrum shape. Introducing Ag led to a approximately linear decrease of the NPs saturation magnetization depending upon the Ag concentration, it also resulted into the MCD spectrum shift to the lower light wave energies. MCD was also studied for the Fe3O4@C NPs synthesized earlier with the same one-step process using different heat treatment temperatures, and MCD spectra were compared for two series of NPs. A possible contribution of the surface plasmon excitation in Ag NPs to the MCD spectrum of the FexOy@C-Ag NPs is discussed.

Аннотация: The preparation., processing and characterization of the composite materials on high-T-c superconductor (HTSC) basis, YBa2Cu3O7/Ag and Y0.75Lu0.25Ba2Cu3O7/BaPbO3, is reported. The initial components YBa2Cu3O7 and BaPbO3 were prepared by the standard solid state reaction technique. The microstructures of the samples were observed by scanning electron microscopy. whilst the XRD paterns of the composites HTSC+Ag and HTSC+BaPbO3 revealed the 123 superconducting phase and the Ag or BaPbO3 structure. The chemical compositions of the powders and the interface zone were found by employing energy dispersive spectrometry. The resistive and magnetic measurements of the composites indicated the transition temperature 93.5 K. Application of such composite materials in the construction of a superconducting fault current limiter model is reported. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: Nowadays, the technical advances call for efficient electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding of transparent devices which may be subject to data theft. We developed Cu–Ag and Ni–Ag meshes on flexible PET substrate for highly efficiency transparent EMI shielding coating. Cu–Ag and Ni–Ag meshes obtained with galvanic deposition of copper and nickel on thin Ag seed mesh which was made by cracked template method. Coefficients S11, S21 and shielding efficiency (SE) were measured for Cu–Ag and Ni–Ag meshes in X-band (8–12 GHz) and K-band (18–26.5 GHz). 90 s copper deposition increase SE from 23.2 to 43.7 dB at 8 GHz with a transparency of 82.2% and a sheet resistance of 0.25 Ω/sq. The achieved maximum SE was 47.6 dB for Cu–Ag mesh with 67.8% transparency and 41.1 dB for Ni–Ag mesh with 77.8% transparency. Cu–Ag and Ni–Ag meshes have high bending and long-term stability. Minimum bend radius is lower than 100 µm. This effect allows to produce different forms of transparent shielding objects, for example, origami method. Our coatings are the leading among all literary solutions in three-dimensional coordinates: of sheet resistance–optical transmittance–cost of produced.

Аннотация: Based on the results of in situ electron diffraction study of the solid-state reaction and electrical resistivity measurements on the Al/Ag thin films with an atomic ratio of Al : Ag = 1 : 3, the temperature of the reaction onset has been established and a model of the structural phase transitions has been proposed. The solid-state reaction begins at 70°C with the formation of the Al–Ag solid solution at the interface between the aluminum and silver nanolayers. It has been found that, in the course of the reaction, the intermetallic compounds γ-Ag2Al → μ-Ag3Al are successively formed. It is shown that the possibility of the formation of the μ‑Ag3Al phase during the solid-state reaction in the Al/Ag thin films depends on the aluminum-to-silver ratio, while the formation of the μ-Ag3Al phase begins only after all fcc aluminum has reacted.

Аннотация: FMR and SWR spectra of exchange-coupled structures NiFe/Ag/NiFe have been investigated. We revealed that the optical satellites of the exchange spin-wave modes are characterized not by the standard Kittel-dependence but rather by their own resonance field dependence on the mode number: Hr opt(n)?n5/2.

Аннотация: The quasi-equilibrium directional crystallization of the melt composition (at. %): Cu 24.998, Fe 25.001, S 49.983, with Ag 0.002, Pd 0.003, Ru 0.004, Rh 0.006, and Au, Pt, Ir (each as 0.001) was carried out. The crystallized cylindrical ingot consisted of two primary zones and three secondary zones with different chemical and phase compositions. The compositions of the primary zones corresponded to high-temperature intermediate solid solution (zone I) and liquid enriched in sulfur (zone II). The compositions of the secondary zones corresponded to low-temperature intermediate solid solution and chalcopyrite (zone Ia), the same intermediate solid solution with chalcopyrite and bornite (zone Ib), and again with bornite, chalcocite, and idaite (zone II). We plotted the distribution curves of Fe, Cu, and S along the ingot, calculated the distribution coefficients of the components during directional crystallization, and clearly showed that, from the initial stoichiometric composition CuFeS2, the intermediate solid solution enriched in Fe and depleted in S is crystallized. Based on the data of directional crystallization and thermal analysis, a cross section was constructed in the intermediate solid solution-sulfide melt region of the Cu-Fe-S system. With solubility in the solid Cu-Fe sulfides lying below detection limit of scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM/EDS), noble elements occurred as individual phases of a size more often <10 µm. They were identified as Ag, RuS2, PdS, Au* (an Au based alloy), (Rh, Ir, Ru)3S8, (Rh, Ir)3S8, Rh3S8, and (Cu, Fe)~2(Pt, Rh)1S~5 phases by electron microprobe. Based on ab initio calculations of crystal structure, electronic band structure, and lattice dynamics of idealized laurite RuS2 phase and the idealized Ir3S8, Rh3S8, and Ru3S8 phases, the interpretation of Raman spectrum of the cation-mixed (Ru, Rh, Ir)S2 sulfide was presented for the first time.

Аннотация: A possibility of creating a stable hybrid coating based on the hybrid of a reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/ Ag quasi-periodic mesh (q-mesh) coating has been demonstrated. The main advantages of the suggested method are the low cost of the processes and the technology scalability. The Ag q-mesh coating is formed by means of the magnetron sputtering of silver on the original template obtained as a result of quasi-periodic cracking of a silica film. The protective rGO film is formed by low temperature reduction of a graphene oxide (GO) film, applied by the spray-deposition in the solution of NaBH4. The coatings have low sheet resistance (12.3 Ω/sq) and high optical transparency (82.2%). The hybrid coating are characterized by high chemical stability, as well as they show high stability to deformation impacts. High performance of the hybrid coatings as electrodes in the sandwich-system «electrode – electrochromic composition – electrode» has been demonstrated. The hybrid electrodes allow the electrochromic sandwich to function without any visible degradation for a long time, while an unprotected mesh electrode does not allow performing even a single switching cycle.

Аннотация: Low-density polycrystalline Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3Ox high-temperature superconductors with a foamlike microstructure and composites consisting of this superconductor and silver in an amount of 20, 25, and 30 vol % are synthesized. The microstructure, as well as the temperature and field dependences of the magnetization, M(T) and M(H), are studied. It is found that, in Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3Ox high-temperature superconductors and Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3Ox + Ag composites, the diamagnetic response is enhanced and the screening properties are improved compared with high-temperature polycrystalline superconductors with the same composition that are prepared by the standard technology. The observed effect is explained by the features of magnetic flux penetration into a porous medium.

Аннотация: A solid-state reaction process in Ag/Al multilayer thin films has been investigated by the methods of in situ electron diffraction, simultaneous thermal analysis, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction with the aim of studying the phase formation kinetics of intermetallic compounds. The sequence of the phase transformations in the solid-state reaction has been established: Ag+Al→(Ag)+(Al)→(Ag)+δ-Ag2Al→μ-Ag3Al. The process of the solid-state interaction has been shown to consist of two steps; each of them is described by a kinetic model of the nth order reactions with autocatalysis. The kinetic parameters of the autocatalytic process of the phase formation for δ-Ag2Al and µ-Ag3Al, have been determined, in particular, their apparent activation energy: 126 kJ/mol and 106 kJ/mol, respectively.

Аннотация: The effect of Ag interlayers 0, 60, 420, and 900 nm thick on the reaction of Ni with Fe in epitaxial Ni(001)/Ag(001)/Fe(001) trilayers has been studied by XRD, volume magnetocrystalline anisotropy, and mag netization measurements. Minor mixing was observed at the interface between Ag(001)/Ni(001) and Ag(001)/Fe(001) bilayers at temperatures above 900 K. When the epitaxial Ni(001)/Ag(001)/Fe(001) trilayer undergoes thermal annealing, a total atomic exchange between Ni and Ag occurs independently of an Ag inter layer thickness. Solid-state synthesis of alloy phases was found to occur in the sequence Fe/Ni Ni3Fe NiFe γpar (Fe3Ni-like phase). Temperatures for the formation of Ni3Fe and NiFe phases slightly increase with increasing interlayer thickness, while the initiation temperature for the γpar phase remains intact. We sug gest some scenarios for the observed atomic exchange in the system under consideration. The results are ratio nalized in terms of long-range chemical interaction between Ni and Fe via an Ag interlayer. This means that Ni reacts with Fe despite the fact that a separation between the above atoms is greater than the length of normal chemical bond by a factor of about 104

Аннотация: The effect of 0, 0.5, and 1 μm-thick Ag interlayers on the chemical interaction between Pd and Fe in epitaxial Pd(0 0 1)/Ag(0 0 1)/Fe(0 0 1)/MgO(0 0 1) and Fe(0 0 1)/Ag(0 0 1)/Pd(0 0 1)/MgO(0 0 1) trilayers has been studied using X-ray diffraction, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and magnetic structural measurements. No mixing of Pd and Fe occurs via the chemically inert Ag layer at annealing temperatures up to 400 °C. As the annealing temperature is increased above 400 °C, a solid-state synthesis of an ordered L10-FePd phase begins in the Pd(0 0 1)/Ag(0 0 1)/Fe(0 0 1) and Fe(0 0 1)/Ag(0 0 1)/Pd(0 0 1) film trilayers regardless of the thickness of the buffer Ag layer. In all samples, annealing above 500 °C leads to the formation of a disordered FexPd1−x(0 0 1) phase; however, in samples lacking the Ag layer, the synthesis of FexPd1−x is preceded by the formation of an ordered L12-FePd3 phase. An analysis of the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results shows that Pd is the dominant moving species in the reaction between Pd and Fe. According to the preliminary results, the 2.2 μm-thick Ag film does not prevent the synthesis of the L10-FePd phase and only slightly increases the phase’s initiation temperature. Data showing the ultra-fast transport of Pd atoms via thick inert Ag layers are interpreted as direct evidence of the long-range character of the chemical interaction between Pd and Fe. Thus, in the reaction state, Pd and Fe interact chemically even though the distance between them is about 104 times greater than an ordinary chemical bond length.

Аннотация: Diffusion is one of the unique phenomena that control major natural processes. It is a basic contributor to chemical reactions and structural transformations in solids.[1,2] Solid-state reactions, including those occurring in thin films and multilayers, comprise three successive stages: (1) breakage of reagent chemical bonds, (2) diffusion transfer of reagent atoms via a reaction product, and (3) rearrangement and formation of new bonds. The reaction rate is determined by step 2, which is the primary stage. Traditionally, solid-state diffusion of reacting atoms via a layer of a reaction product is considered to occur through an atomic exchange with nearest neighbors that leads to their random walk over a crystal lattice. The mean distance d that an atom moves over time t equals the mean-square atomic displacement 〈∆x2〉 and satisfies the Einstein equation d = 〈∆x2〉 = 2Dt. In numerous studies on solid-state reactions in thin films and multilayers, the parabolic growth of the reaction layer thickness d which satisfies the Einstein equation is presented as experimental proof of the diffusive nature of the reaction.
