Аннотация: Heat capacity measurements were performed for a single crystal wafer of PMN in the temperature range of 170-250 K applying an electric field E = 3.0 kV/cm along the [111] direction. The heat capacity anomalies related to the phase transition at Tc = 210 K upon zero field heating after field cooling and at Tc = 223 K upon field cooling have been found. The results obtained are discussed together with the data of previous studies in the frame of the spherical random bondrandom field model.

Аннотация: Thin polycrystalline Pr0.6Sr0.4MnO3 films were grown on the Y stabilized zirconium oxide substrates by magnetron sputtering using RF power and off-axis sputtering scheme with double cathodes. Only one polycrystalline phase with structural parameters consistent with that for the corresponding bulk sample was revealed in the films. Electric resistivity dependence on temperature demonstrates the shape characteristic for the substances with the Mott transition. The difference between magnetization temperature curves measured in the zero field cooling and field cooling modes was revealed. Magnetization field dependences were presented by the hysteresis loops changing their form with temperature. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Аннотация: A method of producing and confining ultracold electron-ion plasma with a strongly nonideal ion subsystem is considered. The method is based on the laser cooling of plasma ions by the radiation resonant with the ion quantum transition. A model is developed for the laser cooling of recombining plasma. Computer simulation based on this model showed that the ion nonideality parameter can be as large as similar to100. The data obtained demonstrate that the production of ultracold nonideal plasma is quite possible. (C) 2002 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: Laser cooling and crystallization of electron-ion plasma is studied using the Brownian dynamics simulation technique and taking into consideration the interaction of ions with the electron subsystem. It has been shown that the nonlinear dependence of laser friction force on the velocity of ions has to be taken into account in order to simulate in an adequate manner the cooling dynamics and obtain a correct estimate for minimum temperatures. It has been found that times required for formation of an ordered ionic structure can be much longer than the typical plasma cooling time.

Аннотация: The solution of the problem of all-optical (nonmagnetic) confinement of ultracold electron-ion neutral plasma based on selective action on plasma ions with quantum transition J = 1 - J = 0 of so-called rectified radiation forces in a strong nonmonochromatic light field is suggested. The presented scheme of the three-dimensional dissipative optical trap for plasma allows one to obtain long-lived ultracold plasma with controlled characteristics. The lifetime of the ultracold plasma in such a trap may exceed considerably (by orders of magnitude) the time of free plasma expansion and the lifetime in the (earlier proposed) optical molasses for the ultracold plasma. Аннотация: We report the results of investigations of the effect of cooling in an external magnetic field starting from the temperature over superparamagnetic blocking temperature TB on the shift of magnetic hysteresis loops in systems of ferrihydrite nanoparticles from ∼2.5 to ∼5 nm in size with different TB values. In virtue of high anisotropy fields of ferrihydrite nanoparticles and open hysteresis loops in the range of experimentally attainable magnetic fields, the shape of hysteresis loops of such objects in the field-cooling mode is influenced by the minor hysteresis loop effect. A technique is proposed for distinguishing the exchange bias effect among the effects related to the minor hysteresis loops caused by high anisotropy fields of ferrihydrite particles. The exchange bias in ferrihydrite is stably observed for particles not less than 3 nm in size or with TB over 40 K, and its characteristic value increases with the particle size. © 2016 Author(s).

Аннотация: In this paper, the results of radiothermal and radar remote sensing of several Arctic tundra test sites were investigated to establish the dependences of the reflectivity and backscattering coefficient on soil temperature. The brightness temperature and backscattering coefficient were measured by a SMAP radiometer (1.4GHz) and Sentinel-1 radar (5.4GHz) over areas near to Franklin Bluffs weather station in the North Slope of Alaska and Isachsen weather station on Ellef Ringnes Island respectively. It has been experimentally and theoretically shown that between the surface soil temperature measured by weather stations in the period 2015-2016 and the reflectivity or backscattering coefficient there is a strong correlation relationship no worse than 0.68. In addition, in the range of soil surface temperature changes from -30°C to 0°C, the variations in the backscattering coefficient and reflectivity are about 4 dB for both test sites. This study contributes to further understanding the processes of microwave emission and scattering of frozen Arctic soils that is pertinent to developing new remote sensing algorithms for the permafrost region.

Аннотация: Depletion dynamics of an open system of weakly interacting fermions with two-body random interactions is studied. In this model, fermions are escaping from the high-energy one-particle orbitals, that mimics the evaporation process used in laboratory experiments with neutral atoms to cool them to ultra-low temperatures. It is shown that due to self-thermalization the system instantaneously adjusts to the new temperature which decreases with the course of time.
