Аннотация: Calculations of the thermodynamic quantities, and the spectra of spinons, triplet excitations, and two-particle spin-singlet (Delta S-z = 0, +/- 1) excitations for a weakly coupled antiferromagnetic S = 1/2 spin chain are made using a mean-field approximation for the interchain couplings (J(2)) by the quantum Monte Carlo method. The mass gaps in these excitation spectra are estimated as functions of the interchain coupling. The critical held H-c, and the temperatures at which the spinon and singlet gaps close (T-1 and T-2, respectively) are obtained. Some peculiarities of the staggered magnetization, the specific heat, and the spin-spin correlation function are found at T-1 = 0.9J(2), T-2 = 1.5J(2), H-c = 3.8J(2), as determined by linear function fitting for J(2)/J(1) < 0.15 The intrachain and interchain couplings, and the staggered magnetization for KCuF3, Sr2CuO3, and Ca2CuO3 are estimated, and mass gaps are predicted to exist in the spectra of the spinons and the singlet two-particle excitations.

Аннотация: Characteristics of random magnetic anisotropy in ferromagnetic films of amorphous Co90P10 and nanocrystalline Ni75C25 , Fe80B4C16 , and Co80C20 alloys and also in multilayer films [Co93P7(x)/Pd(14 Angstrom)](20) and [Co90P10(x)/Pd(14 Angstrom)](20) obtained by various technological procedures were studied experimentally. It was found that the spatial dimensionality (d) of the system of ferromagnetically coupled grains (2R(c)) in the materials under study determined the exponent in the power dependence of the approach of magnetization to saturation in the region of fields H 2A / MRc2. The dependence DeltaM similar to H-1/2 was observed for nanocrystalline and amorphous films with a three-dimensional grain arrangement. The approach to saturation in multilayer films with a two-dimensional grain arrangement in an individual magnetic layer follows the law DeltaM similar to H-1. The main micromagnetic characteristics of random anisotropy, such as the ferromagnetic correlation radius R-f and the average anisotropy [K] of a ferromagnetic domain with a size of 2R(f) , were determined for multilayer Co/Pd films. Correlation was found between the coercive field and these characteristics of random anisotropy. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The spectrum of the two-particle spin-singlet (DeltaS(z) = 0, +/-1) excitations of a weakly coupled antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 alternating (J(1) +/- delta) chain is calculated using a mean-field approximation for the interchain exchange (J(2)) by the quantum Monte Carlo method. The bandwidth change of these excitations, the mass gaps in the singlet-singlet excitation spectrum, the top boundaries of the bands and the velocities of these excitations are estimated as functions of the alternating bond delta. The temperatures at which the singlet gaps close are determined.

Аннотация: The cooperative phenomena revealed in the field and temperature dependences of the magnetization in a system of iron nanoparticles in carbon nanotubes were studied experimentally. The character of the temperature dependences of the magnetization indicates that the ferromagnetic Fe particles in carbon nanotubes are exchange-coupled. In the region where the magnetization approaches saturation, the magnetization curves reveal the power dependence DeltaM similar to H-3/2 typical for a one-dimensional system of exchange-coupled ferromagnetic nanoparticles. Аннотация: The optical absorption spectra of Rb2MnxCd1-xCl4 crystals are experimentally studied in the vicinity of a magnon sideband of the exciton band at a manganese content x ranging from 1.0 to 0.4. Additional absorption bands are observed with an increase in the magnetic structural disorder upon replacement of manganese ions by cadmium ions. An analysis of the evolution of the additional absorption bands in a magnetic field during the spin-flop phase transition and the change in the intensity with variations in the manganese content x demonstrates that these bands are associated with the excitation of the exchange-coupled pairs of manganese ions located in different environments in a plane square lattice. The phase boundary between the antiferromagnetic and spin-flop phases is constructed using the results of optical measurements. The manganese content corresponding to the magnetic percolation point is evaluated. (C) 2003 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: We consider a system that consists of two single-quantum billiards (QBs) coupled by a waveguide and study the transmission through this system as a function of length and width of the waveguide. To interpret the numerical results for the transmission, we explore a simple model with a small number of states which allows us to consider the problem analytically. The transmission is described in the S-matrix formalism by using the non-Hermitian effective Hamilton operator for the open system. The coupling of the single QBs to the internal waveguide characterizes the 'internal' coupling strength u of the states of the system while that of the system as a whole to the attached leads determines the 'external' coupling strength v of the resonance states via the continuum (waves in the leads). The transmission is resonant for all values of v/u in relation to the effective Hamiltonian. It depends strongly on the ratio u/u via the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the effective Hamiltonian. The results obtained are compared qualitatively with those from simulation calculations for larger systems. Most interesting is the existence of resonance states with vanishing widths that may appear at all values of v/u. They cause zeros in the transmission through the double QB due to trapping of the particle in the waveguide.

Аннотация: The method to investigate "single-ion" exchange anisotropy (as predicted by the pair model) is treated by exploration of several isostructural diamagnetic crystals containing magnetic impurities. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra were observed for ferric borate isostructural crystals MBO(3): Fe(3+) (M = Ga, In, Lu, Sc). The experimental dependences of the spin-Hamiltonian axial parameters of the second-order D(S) and fourth-order (a-F)(cS) versus total pair spin S are presented. The contributions arising from the distortion of the parent crystal lattice MBO3 under magnetic dilution are estimated. The microscopic derived expressions for the "single-ion" contribution to the anisotropy are also presented. The present experimental data enable estimation of the "single- ion" exchange contribution for FeBO(3), MnCO(3), and alpha-Fe(2)O(3) crystals at T= 0 K. The quantitative estimations for EPR are in satisfactory agreement among themselves and with the experimental data.
