The T-c1 = 86 K PT preserves the trigonal symmetry and is associated with the doubling of the c-parameter. At T-c2 = 72 K a doubling of a and b is observed. An intermediate incommensurate phase with q(1) = 1/2c*, q(2) = (1/2 - delta)a* + 1/2c* has been detected in the temperature range of 78-72 K. The lock-in PT at 72 K has a first order character. The analysis of intensities and influence of anomalous scattering on them allowed us to choose twin elements and atomic configurations of twin domains for all the investigated specimens.

The second harmonic generation technique is used to obtain the width and temperature of the cubic-to-tetragonal phase transition in the powder treated by uniaxial pressures. The interrelations between the phase transition width, temperatures, and residual mechanical stresses are established. These interrelations differ from expectations based on known hydrostatic pressure-induced effects in BaTiO3.

The total excess entropies at successive Pa-3 ↔ P4/mnc ↔ 4/m (Ti) and single Pa-3 ↔ Pm-3m (Sn) phase transitions are close to each other and characteristic for the order–disorder processes. The Pm-3m cubic phase and direct Pa-3 ↔ Pm-3m transformation were found at high pressure in (NH4)3TiF7. The different sign of baric coefficients for phase transition between two cubic phases in (NH4)3TiF7 and (NH4)3SnF7 was supposed due to nonlinear phase boundary with pressure in the latter fluoride.

A change in chemical pressure associated with the complex cationic substitution, (Na1/2Bi1/2)2+ → Ba2+, result in a very rapid decrease in the temperatures of the transformation P4 mm → C2 mm → R3m below 100 K which are characteristic of BaTiO3. Significant features in the behavior of thermal expansion were observed near two triple points in the T – x phase diagram where the phases Pm3¯m, P4 mm, P4bm (x≈0.15-0.20) and P4bm, P4 mm, R3c (x≈0,06) coexist, allow the studied solid solutions to be divided into three groups. The relationship between the effects of internal chemical pressure and external hydrostatic one is discussed. By analyzing the thermodynamic potential, the root-mean-square polarization Pd is determined, which increases by about 16% with a decrease in the BT content from 0.97 to 0.4.

Based on an analysis of the data obtained, the temperature-composition phase diagram is refined, and the temperature dependence of the polarization is calculated. The results are discussed in combination with the dielectric measurement data.

The anomalous and lattice contributions to deformation and the thermal expansion coefficient are analyzed and the mean square polarization Pd is determined. The results obtained are discussed within the framework of the thermodynamic theory and the Landau 2-4-6 coefficients for solid solutions are estimated.

Based on an analysis of the results, the temperature-composition phase diagram has been refined, and the temperature dependence of the polarization has been calculated.

Аннотация: A classification of the octahedral tilt systems in perovskites is given, based on the work of Glazer1 but extending it and using a new notation; this leads to a simple description of the sequences of phase transitions, and shows how they are related to the soft modes M3 and R25. Examples from the literature are discussed.

The nature of the influence of chemical pressure on the caloric efficiency has been elucidated. Substitutions of central atoms, Mo → W and Nb → W, lead to an increase in absolute and integral piezocaloric effects.
