ferromagnetic resonance -- cobalt ferrite -- nickel ferrite -- magnetic hyperthermia
Аннотация: Nickel and cobalt ferrite nanoparticles have been synthesized using the chemical precipitation method; the nanoparticle sizes were found to be 63 ± 22 and 26 ± 4 nm, respectively. The static hysteresis loops and Mossbauer spectra have been measured. It is shown that cobalt ferrite powders are magnetically harder than nickel ferrite powders. Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) curves have been studied. It is found that the FMR absorption for cobalt ferrite is observed at room temperature and above. The time dependences of the nanoparticle warm-up under FMR conditions have been measured. The maximum temperature changes for nickel ferrite and cobalt ferrite particles are 8 and 11 K, respectively. Using the example of cobalt ferrite powder, the possibility of effectively heating of particles in the FMR mode in their own field without using a DC magnetic field source is shown. The observed effect can be used in magnetic hyperthermia.

Аннотация: We have studied magnetic nanoparticles of cobalt ferrite obtained by the extraction-pyrolysis method in a mesoporous silicon dioxide (MSM-41) molecular sieve matrix. The X-ray diffraction data show evidence for the formation of CoFe(2)O(4) particles with a coherent scattering domain size of similar to 40 nm. Measurements of the magnetization curves showed that powders consisting of these nanoparticles are magnetically hard materials with a coercive field of H (c)(4.2 K) = 9.0 kOe and H (c)(300 K) = 1.8 kOe and a reduced remanent magnetization of M (r)/M (s)(4.2 K) = 0.83 and M (r)/M (s)(300 K) = 0.49. The shape of the low-temperature (4.2 K) magnetization curves is adequately described in terms of the Stoner-Wohlfarth model for randomly oriented single-domain particles with a cubic magnetic anisotropy.

Аннотация: The Nd1Bi2Fe5O12/Nd2Bi1Fe4Ga1O12 polycrystalline films on the glass substrate and the Nd0.5Bi2.5Fe5O12 epitaxial films on the single-crystal gadolinium gallium garnet substrate have been investigated by impedance and dielectric spectroscopy. The inductive contribution to the impedance and two relaxation channels related to ferroelectric domains and migration polarization have been established. The magnetocapacitance and magnetoimpedance have been determined. The conductive and polarization currents and the phase difference between them for the films of two types have been determined. The critical temperatures of the polarization disappearance and hysteresis I–V have been found. A model of the polarization caused by the piezoelectric effect and flexoelectric interaction has been proposed. I–V hysteresis is explained by the presence of ferroelectric domains near the interface and is associated with the hysteresis of the electric polarization.

copper ferrite -- magnetic properties -- anion-exchange resin precipitation -- magnetic nanoparticles
Аннотация: Copper ferrite is of great interest to researchers as a material with unique magnetic, optical, catalytic, and structural properties. In particular, the magnetic properties of this material are structurally sensitive and can be tuned by changing the distribution of Cu and Fe cations in octahedral and tetrahedral positions by controlling the synthesis parameters. In this study, we propose a new, simple, and convenient method for the synthesis of copper ferrite nanoparticles using a strongly basic anion-exchange resin in the OH form. The effect and possible mechanism of polysaccharide addition on the elemental composition, yield, and particle size of CuFe2O4 are investigated and discussed. It is shown that anion-exchange resin precipitation leads to a mixture of unstable cubic (c-CuFe2O4) phases at standard temperature and stable tetragonal (t-CuFe2O4) phases. The effect of reaction conditions on the stability of c-CuFe2O4 is studied by temperature-dependent XRD measurements and discussed in terms of cation distribution, cooperative Jahn–Teller distortion, and Cu2+ and oxygen vacancies in the copper ferrite lattice. The observed differences in the values of the saturation magnetization and coercivity of the prepared samples are explained in terms of variations in the particle size and structural properties of copper ferrite.

nanoparticles -- cobalt ferrite -- magnetodynamics -- superparamagnetism -- effective anisotropy
Аннотация: We report a study of the magnetodynamics of cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles with an average diameter of ~6 nm. Hysteresis loops were measured under quasi-static conditions and in pulse fields with amplitudes H0 of up to 130 kOe and for durations τP of 8 and 16 ms. The growth of coercivity Hc observed with an increase in the magnetic field variation rate dH/dt (determined by the values of H0 and τP) and the reduction of Hc with temperature is ascribed to the superparamagnetic effect. The proposed theoretical model explains the observed dependences fairly well. Notably, the effective magnetic anisotropy constant obtained exceeds the value for bulk crystals and might be indicative of the contribution of surface magnetic anisotropy.

Rare-earth-substituted cobalt oxides -- Stability -- Thermoelectric properties
Аннотация: The behavior of the resistivity and thermopower of the Gd0.2Sr0.8FeO3−δ ferrite samples with a perovskite structure and the sample stability in an inert gas atmosphere in the temperature range of 300–800 K have been examined. It has been established that, in the investigated temperature range, the thermoelectric properties in the heating‒cooling mode are stabilized at δ ≥ 0.21. It is shown that the temperature dependencies of the resistivity obtained at different δ values obey the activation law up to the temperatures corresponding to the intense oxygen removal from a sample. The semiconductor‒semiconductor electronic transitions accompanied by a decrease in the activation energy have been observed with increasing temperature. It is demonstrated that the maximum thermoelectric power factor of 0.1 µW/(cm·K2) corresponds to a temperature of T = 800 K.

Аннотация: A method is described of preparing targets for sputtering, which involves the use of plasma deposition of respective powders onto a cooled metal plate. It is demonstrated that the use of plasma technology enables one to produce, in a controlled atmosphere, intricately shaped ceramic targets characterized by a highly uniform composition and by reliable mechanical and thermal contact of the resultant coating with the holder plate. Experiments are performed on the sputtering of targets to prepare polycrystalline ferrite films for magnetooptical applications and epitaxial films of high-temperature superconductors. Аннотация: Evolution of the phase state of paramagnetic additions at various stages of synthesis and subsequent thermal treatment of glasses of the system Al(2)O(3)-K(2)O-B(2)O(3) simultaneously doped with Fe(2)O(3) and MnO is studied by means of a combination of experimental techniques: Faraday rotation (FR), electron magnetic resonance (EMR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Mossbauer spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. Both FR and EMR show that magnetically ordered clusters occur already at the first stage of the glass preparation. In particular, for the ratio of the Fe and Mn oxides in the charge close to 3:2, fine magnetic nanoparticles are formed with characteristics similar to those of manganese ferrite. By computer simulating the EMR spectra at variable temperatures, a superparamagnetic nature of these nanoparticles is confirmed and their mean diameter is estimated as approximately 3.2 nm. In the thermally treated glasses larger magnetic nanoparticles are formed, giving rise to FR spectra, characteristic of magnetically ordered systems, and the EMR spectra different from those in as-prepared glasses but also showing superparamagnetic narrowing. The Mossbauer spectroscopy corroborates the manganese ferrite structure of the nanoparticles and indicates their coexistence in the ferrimagnetic and superparamagnetic states. The TEM shows the presence of polydisperse nanoparticles on the background of the glass matrix, and electron diffraction of a selected region containing larger particles indicates a crystal structure close to that of MnFe(2)O(4). Energy-dispersive atomic x-ray spectra confirm that the major part of Fe and Mn introduced to the glass composition is gathered in the particles, with the concentration ratio close to 2:1, characteristic of bulk MnFe(2)O(4). Magnetic hysteresis loops of samples subjected to an additional thermal treatment demonstrate a strong increase in the coercive force, remnant magnetization, and high-field magnetic susceptibility with temperature decrease. The consistent results obtained using various techniques demonstrate that the formation of nanoparticles with characteristics close to those of MnFe(2)O(4) confers to these glasses magnetic and magneto-optical properties typical of substances possessing magnetic order.

Аннотация: During the past few decades, hybrid nanoparticles (HNPs) based on a magnetic material and gold have attracted interest for applications in catalysis, diagnostics and nanomedicine. In this paper, magnetic CoFe2O4/Au HNPs with an average particle size of 20 nm, decorated with 2 nm gold clusters, were prepared using methionine as a reducer and an anchor between CoFe2O4 and gold. The methionine was used to grow the Au clusters to a solid gold shell (up to 10 gold deposition cycles). The obtained nanoparticles (NPs) were studied by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), transmis-sion electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-vis spectroscopy techniques. The TEM images of the obtained HNPs showed that the surface of cobalt ferrite was covered with gold nanoclusters, the size of which slightly increased with an increase in the number of gold deposition cycles (from 2.12 ± 0.15 nm after 1 cycle to 2.46 ± 0.13 nm after 10 cycles). The density of the Au clusters on the cobalt ferrite surface insignificantly decreased during repeated stages of gold deposition: 21.4 ± 2.7 Au NPs/CoFe2O4 NP after 1 cycle, 19.0 ± 1.2 after 6 cycles and 18.0 ± 1.4 after 10 cycles. The magnetic measurements showed that the obtained HNPs possessed typical ferrimagnetic behavior, which corresponds to that of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles. The toxicity evaluation of the synthesized HNPs on Chlorella vulgaris indicated that they can be applied to biomedical applications such as magnetic hyperthermia, photothermal therapy, drug delivery, bioimaging and biosensing.

Аннотация: The anodic behaviour of pre-oxidised and non-oxidised Cu−Al-based anodes (Cu−10Al and Cu−9.8Al−2Mn) in KF−AlF3−Al2O3 melts was studied through galvanostatic and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. The alloy compositions were oxidised for a short-term (8 h) at 700 °C, followed by galvanostatic polarization for 1 h at 800 °C with an applied current density of 0.4 A/cm2. The potentiodynamic curves were recorded with a sweep rate of 0.01 V/s. XRD analysis was conducted on frozen melt samples collected on the surface of the anode, and SEM observation was performed on the anode after the experiment to study the phases of the scales formed on the alloys. All the anode materials had a steady potential between 2.30 and 2.50 V(vs Al/AlF3). The corrosion rates of the anodes were calculated from the data acquired through potentiodynamic polarization. It was seen that pre-oxidised anodes possess a low corrosion rate compared to those without pre-oxidation treatment.

Аннотация: The photoinduced diode effect has been found in BiMnxFe1-xO3 (0 < X < 0.15) films in the near-infrared and violet spectral ranges in a wide temperature interval. The dependences of the diode effect on temperature, wavelength, and illumination power have been established. The mechanism of the ferroelectric diode has been determined using its I-V characteristics at different illumination powers, optical spectra, far-infrared absorption spectra, and electric polarization hysteresis. The interplay between the photodiode effect and conductivity mechanism has been elucidated. The model of strong Coulomb potential fluctuations and quantum well asymmetry caused by the electric polarization in the film and difference between the times of carrier thermalization and recombination of electrons and holes is proposed.

A new type of nanoparticle-containing glasses based on borate glasses co-doped with low contents of iron and larger radius elements, Dy, Tb, Gd, Ho, Er, Y, and Bi, is studied. Heat treatment of these glasses results in formation of magnetic nanoparticles, radically changing their physical properties. Transmission electron microscopy and synchrotron radiation-based techniques: x-ray diffraction, extended x-ray absorption fine structure, x-ray absorption near-edge structure, and small-angle x-ray scattering, show a broad distribution of nanoparticle sizes with characteristics depending on the treatment regime; a crystalline structure of these nanoparticles is detected in heat treated samples. Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) studies of samples subjected to heat treatment as well as of maghemite, magnetite, and iron garnet allow to unambiguously assign the nanoparticle structure to maghemite, independently of co-dopant nature and of heat treatment regime used. Different features observed in the MCD spectra are related to different electron transitions in Fe3+ ions gathered in the nanoparticles. The static magnetization in heat treated samples has non-linear dependence on the magnetizing field with hysteresis. Zero-field cooled magnetization curves show that at higher temperatures the nanoparticles occur in superparamagnetic state with blocking temperatures above 100 K. Below ca. 20 K, a considerable contribution to both zero field-cooled and field-cooled magnetizations occurs from diluted paramagnetic ions. Variable-temperature electron magnetic resonance (EMR) studies unambiguously show that in as-prepared glasses paramagnetic ions are in diluted state and confirm the formation of magnetic nanoparticles already at earlier stages of heat treatment. Computer simulations of the EMR spectra corroborate the broad distribution of nanoparticle sizes found by "direct" techniques as well as superparamagnetic nanoparticle behaviour demonstrated in the magnetization studies. Аннотация: Static magnetization (SM), magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) and electron magnetic resonance (EMR) studies are reported of borate glasses 22.5 K 2O-22.5 Al 2O 3-55 B 2O 3 co-doped with iron and manganese oxides. In as-prepared glasses the paramagnetic ions usually are in diluted state; however, if the ratio of the iron and manganese oxides in the charge is 3/2, magnetic nanoparticles are found already in as-prepared glass. After additional thermal treatment all glasses show magnetic behaviour, MCD and EMR due to the presence of magnetic nanoparticles with characteristics close to those of manganese ferrite. By computer simulating the EMR spectra at variable temperatures, their morphological characteristics are deduced: relatively broad size and shape distribution with average diameter of ca. 3-4 nm. The characteristic temperature-dependent shift of the apparent resonance field is explained by a strong temperature dependence of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy in the nanoparticles. The potassium-alumina-borate glasses containing magnetic nanoparticles represent a novel class of materials: "transparent magnets". Indeed, they remain transparent in a part of visible and near infrared spectral range while showing magnetic and magneto-optical properties characteristic of magnetically ordered materials.
