Аннотация: Mn1.17Co1.83BO5 and Mn1.39Co1.61BO5 ludwigites were synthesized by the flux technique and investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, DC and AC magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat analysis. The crystal structure of both ludwigites belongs to the Pbam space group with a = 9.25 Å, b = 12.41 Å, and c = 3.05 Å for Mn1.17Co1.83BO5 and a = 9.27 Å, b = 12.45 Å, and c = 3.05 Å for Mn1.39Co1.61BO5. The simultaneously observed negative values of the Curie-Weiss temperatures and ferromagnetic-type hysteresis loops allow us to assume that the ferrimagnetic ordering is realized in Mn1.39Co1.61BO5 below TF = 60.8 K, while in Mn1.17Co1.83BO5 in addition to the above mentioned experimental facts the frequency dependencies of the real and imaginary parts of the AC magnetization were observed assuming the presence of the canonical spin-glass state below TSG = 44.5 K. The observed difference in coercive forces of M-H curves at low temperatures can be associated with presence of two spin subsystems for Mn1.17Co1.83BO5.

Аннотация: The results of a study of the dynamic (alternating current magnetic susceptibility) and static magnetic properties, as well as 57Fe Mössbauer spectrometry and ferromagnetic resonance of two-line ferrihydrite nanoparticle systems with varying intensities of magnetic interparticle interactions are reported. The strength of the magnetic interparticle interactions has been tuned by coating (with various degrees of coating) the ferrihydrite particles (2–4 nm in size and an average size ∼2.7 nm) of the initial synthetic sample by arabinogalactan. Also, a biogenic ferrihydrite sample (an average particle size of 2-nm) with a natural organic coating was studied and it has the weakest magnetic interparticle interactions among of all the samples. Relaxation times of the particle’s magnetic moment were determined by the data of static and dynamic magnetic susceptibilities and from analysis of 57Fe Mössbauer spectrometry. Based on the temperature dependences of the relaxation times, it has been concluded that the predominantly collective processes of freezing of the particle magnetic moments occur under the action of the magnetic interparticle interactions. It is shown that an important role in these processes is played by a magnetic subsystem of the surface spins of the particles. The effect of the interplay between the surface spin and magnetic moment subsystems on the static magnetic properties (low-temperature magnetic hysteresis loops) and the parameters of the microwave absorption line under the magnetic resonance conditions is discussed.

Аннотация: The recycling of hazardous industrial waste into high-tech materials with desired properties is of considerable interest since it provides optimal alternatives for its final disposal. Coal fly ash, the major waste generated by coal-fired power plants, contains significant quantities of dispersed microspheres with a diameter smaller than 10 μm, which are anthropogenic atmospheric pollutants PM10. Due to their composition and fine-grained powder morphology, they can be converted into sintered products. In this study, dispersed microspheres from class C fly ash were directly sintered without any additive to form high-strength glass-ceramics with magnetic properties. The optimum processing conditions were achieved at a temperature of 1200 °C, at which samples with a compressive strength of 100.6 MPa were obtained. Sintering reduces the quantity of the glass phase and promotes the formation of larnite, Fe-spinel, ye’elimite, and ternesite. Mössbauer measurements show that the relative concentration of the magnetic phase compared to the paramagnetic one rises almost in order. The sintered sample demonstrates a narrower distribution of the hyperfine magnetic field and a significantly lower value of the coercive field of 25 Oe, which allows proposing such materials as soft magnetic materials. The presented results demonstrate promising industrial applications of hazardous PM10 to minimize solid waste pollution.

Аннотация: The effects related to the conversion of magnetic structures of a Cu2MnBO5 ferrimagnet to a Cu2GaBO5 antiferromagnet under the Mn3+ → Ga3+ substitution were studied. The properties of four single crystal samples with the gallium concentration x  = 0.04, 0.11, 0.17, 0.25 were examined. The chemical composition and valence state of the samples were determined by X-ray absorption spectroscopy element-sensitive technique. Distribution of the 3d metal ions over crystallographic positions was studied using the first principle calculations by Wien2k program. The evolution of the magnetic properties was investigated by the measurements of the temperature and field dependences of magnetization, dc and ac magnetic susceptibility. In agreement with the previous study of the structure evolution of Cu2Mn1-xGaxBO5 solid solutions, the critical concentration upon a change in the magnetic ordering type was found in the range x  = 0.17–0.25. The non-monotonic behavior of magnetization in terms of the gallium content was found in the concentration range of 0.04–0.17. A complex pattern of magnetic phase transitions belonging to the concentration phase boundary was obtained in the compounds with gallium being within the range x  = 0.17–0.25. One could observe the splitting of the peaks of the real part of ac-susceptibility of the high-temperature phase transition in the Cu2MnBO5-like phase (x = 0.04, 0.11) and that of the low-temperature one at the concentration boundary (x = 0.17, 0.25) with different frequency and orientational dependence. The type and origin of the multiple phase transitions observed in the studied samples were analyzed.

Аннотация: To study the dependence of the properties of ternary oxides (Mn,Fe,Ga)2O3 with the bixbyite structure on the composition, the temperature dependences of the magnetization and ac magnetic susceptibility of two single-crystal samples of different compositions obtained using the flux method were analyzed. A detailed study of the structure was carried out using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, and the changes in structural parameters depending on the composition were analyzed. The dc magnetization and ac magnetic susceptibility of Fe1.1Mn0.76Ga0.14O3 and Fe0.65Mn1.1Ga0.26O3 bixbyites have been studied. Despite the qualitatively similar behavior of the magnetic properties, significant differences were also found, despite a small difference in the Mn/Fe/Ga ratio in the samples under study. It is shown that both compounds experience two successive low-temperature magnetic phase transitions from the paramagnetic phase at T = 20 – 32 K as the temperature is lowered. Calculations of the Mydosh parameter for the detected phase transitions showed different degrees of ordering in the compounds under study.

Аннотация: As part of the work, the chemical interaction of finely ground glass (~1 μm), calcium oxide, and water was studied. It is shown that an increase in the fineness of grinding makes it possible to abandon autoclave hardening in the production of products on a hydrosilicate binder. The study of chemical interaction was carried out by calculating the thermodynamic equilibrium and was also confirmed by XRD analysis. DTA analysis showed that an increase in the treatment temperature leads to an increase in the proportion of the reacted phase at the first stage. Subsequently, phase formation is associated with the presence of CaO. The carrier of strength characteristics is the CaO×2SiO2×2H2O phase. The selection and optimization of the composition make it possible to obtain a high-strength glass concrete material with a strength of about 110 MPa. The micrographs of the obtained samples correspond to classical hydrosilicate systems.

Аннотация: The structural and magneto- and electro-optical properties of a self-organized ensemble of nematic domains formed on a polycarbonate film in the presence of a residual solvent are studied. The film covered one of the plane-parallel glass plates of a liquid crystal cell. The magnetic field stabilizing the planar alignment of the liquid crystal was applied parallel to the cell surfaces and the reorienting electric field, perpendicular to them. The voltage dependences of the intensity of light transmitted through the domain ensemble were obtained at different constant values of the magnetic field. The comparison of the experimental dependences with the dependences calculated using the liquid crystal free-energy minimization procedure has shown good agreement between them. The mutual effect of structural elements of the ensemble and the effects of phase modulation of light are analyzed by comparing the structural, magnetic, and electric coherence lengths.

Аннотация: To study the gradual change of the structure and the magnetic state of the ludwigite Cu2GaBO5 upon Mn3+ doping, single crystals of Cu2Ga1−xMnxBO5 (x = 0.55, 0.7, 0.8) with the size up to 3 × 3 × 10 mm3 were grown using the flux technique. The phase homogeneity and crystal structure of the obtained compounds were investigated by the powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction. All the samples possessed the monoclinic-distorted ludwigite structure with the P21/c space group. The study of the actual Cu/Ga/Mn composition by the EDX (energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) technique revealed the lower Mn content in all the samples and the refined formulas were Cu2Ga0.47Mn0.53BO5, Cu1.92Ga0.5Mn0.58BO5 and Cu2Ga0.32Mn0.68BO5, respectively. Despite the high manganese content, the concentration transition (from Cu2GaBO5 to Cu2MnBO5) and change of the monoclinic angle did not occur, but strong Me-O octahedra distortions exceeding those both in the parent ludwigites Cu2GaBO5 and Cu2MnBO5 were found. The study of the thermodynamic and magnetic properties revealed the low-temperature magnetic phase transition inherited from the parent Cu2GaBO5 in all the samples. However, the nature and ordering type for the compounds with different Mn content were different: there was a complex transformation of the magnetic state from the partially ordered AFM (antiferromagnetically) in Cu2Ga0.47Mn0.53BO5, through the spin glass state, to the combined spin glass/ordered state in Cu2Ga0.32Mn0.68BO5 with the appearance of magnetic anisotropy. The evident dependence of Tc (phase transition temperature) on the magnetic field was found as well as its decrease at the nonzero magnetic field in the samples with x = 0.53 and 0.68.

Аннотация: В работе обсуждаются вопросы энергоэффективности пластиковых окон при заполнении межстекольного пространства осушенным воздухом, аргоном, криптоном, ксеноном и элегазом. Для численного расчета приведенного сопротивления теплопередаче оконных блоков с различными конфигурациями светопрозрачной части использованы современные программные комплексы Them 7.6 и Window 7.6. На основе полученных результатов разработаны рекомендации по использованию конфигураций стеклопакетов с заполнением воздухом и газами, отличными от него.This article discusses the energy efficiency of plastic windows with the filling the space between panes by dry air, argon, krypton, xenon and SF6 gas. Numerical calculation of reduced resistance to heat transfer of window blocks with different configurations of the transparent part were performed using Them 7.6 and Window 7.6 software. Finally, the results of this work can be used for developing recommendations of using the window block configurations filled with air and gases other than.

Аннотация: The quantum spin systems Cu2M′BO5 (M′=Al,Ga) with the ludwigite crystal structure consist of a structurally ordered Cu2+ sublattice in the form of three-leg ladders, interpenetrated by a structurally disordered sublattice with a statistically random site occupation by magnetic Cu2+ and nonmagnetic Ga3+ or Al3+ ions. A microscopic analysis based on density-functional-theory calculations for Cu2GaBO5 reveals a frustrated quasi-two-dimensional spin model featuring five inequivalent antiferromagnetic exchanges. A broad low-temperature 11B nuclear magnetic resonance points to a considerable spin disorder in the system. In zero magnetic field, antiferromagnetic order sets in below TN≈4.1 K and ∼2.4 K for the Ga and Al compounds, respectively. From neutron diffraction, we find that the magnetic propagation vector in Cu2GaBO5 is commensurate and lies on the Brillouin-zone boundary in the (H0L) plane, qm=(0.45,0,−0.7), corresponding to a complex noncollinear long-range ordered structure with a large magnetic unit cell. Muon spin relaxation is monotonic, consisting of a fast static component typical for complex noncollinear spin systems and a slow dynamic component originating from the relaxation on low-energy spin fluctuations. Gapless spin dynamics in the form of a diffuse quasielastic peak is also evidenced by inelastic neutron scattering. Most remarkably, application of a magnetic field above 1 T destroys the static long-range order, which is manifested in the gradual broadening of the magnetic Bragg peaks. We argue that such a crossover from a magnetically long-range ordered state to a spin-glass regime may result from orphan spins on the structurally disordered magnetic sublattice, which are polarized in magnetic field and thus act as a tuning knob for field-controlled magnetic disorder.

Аннотация: The orientation dependence of the functional and mechanical properties of quenched Ti-51.8at.%Ni single crystals, undergoing a strain-glass transition upon cooling/heating was investigated. It was found that a compressive stress above 800 MPa leads to the B2-B19′ martensitic transformation (MT), regardless of orientation. In the high-strength [0 0 1]-orientation, superelasticity (SE) was observed at 203–248 K, with a reversible strain of 2.3%. Degradation of SE at deforming stresses σ 1000 MPa was associated with the formation of {1 1 3}B2 twins during the reverse MT. In the low-strength [1 1 1]-orientation, the formation of stress-induced B19′-martensite occurred simultaneously with the plastic deformation of the B2-phase (due to the formation of reorientation bands and dislocation slip) and a reversible strain was not observed.

Аннотация: Rapid development of solid-state lighting technology requires new materials with highly efficient and stable luminescence, and especially relies on blue light pumped red phosphors for improved light quality. Herein, we discovered an unprecedented red-emitting Mg2Al4Si5O18:Eu2+ composite phosphor (λex = 450 nm, λem = 620 nm) via the crystallization of MgO–Al2O3–SiO2 aluminosilicate glass. Combined experimental measurement and first-principles calculations verify that Eu2+ dopants insert at the vacant channel of Mg2Al4Si5O18 crystal with six-fold coordination responsible for the peculiar red emission. Importantly, the resulting phosphor exhibits high internal/external quantum efficiency of 94.5/70.6%, and stable emission against thermal quenching, which reaches industry production. The maximum luminous flux and luminous efficiency of the constructed laser driven red emitting device reaches as high as 274 lm and 54 lm W−1, respectively. The combinations of extraordinary optical properties coupled with economically favorable and innovative preparation method indicate, that the Mg2Al4Si5O18:Eu2+ composite phosphor will provide a significant step towards the development of high-power solid-state lighting.

Аннотация: Cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) are an important soft material for display and sensing technologies due to their unique optical and thermal properties, which are susceptible to external perturbations such as the electric field and temperature variation. The typically periodic structure of a CLC with a twist between molecular layers permits its chiral photonic crystallinity and the resulting selective reflection of a bandwidth in the otherwise generally high transmission spectrum of incident light. Here we report on a novel dual-mode CLC device as smart glass that enables the transparency to be self-adaptive to temperature and is simultaneously characterized by a fully on-demand, electrically controlled function, allowing users to regulate the suitable or desired extent of transparency in accordance with their living climate zones or personal needs. The working principle is based on the controllable strength of voltage-induced electrohydrodynamic flow, generating temperature-dependent dynamic scattering for passive control. Moreover, the transmission can be reversibly modulated and switched by applied AC voltage for active control between the transparent and opaque states. As a proof of concept, the characteristic Bragg reflection can be designed to sit in the near-infrared region to partially block unwanted thermal radiation in the optically transparent state.

Аннотация: Co1−x-Px films (x = 0.02–0.05) deposited on cover glass by electroless plating from aqueous solutions in a continuous magnetic field with the strength of 2.5 kOe are presented. It has been found that in the pH range from 7.2 to 9.3, two special areas can be distinguished, they are characterized by the deposition of films with qualitatively different parameters in them. So, the change of the pH of working solutions from 7.2 to 8.7 causes the increase in the value of the induced magnetic anisotropy constant KU from 2.5 × 105 erg/cm3 to 6 × 105 erg/cm3. If the value of the hydrogen index is still increasing, an uneven drop to 5 × 104 erg/cm3 is observed. In the same way, the coercivity HC changes; at first it grows from 700 Oe to 1.5 kOe, and then it drops to Oe units. The concentration of phosphorus in the range of 7.2 to 8.7 increases linearly from 2 to 3 wt%, and in the range of 8.7 to 9.3, it increases from 3 to 5 wt%. The x-ray diffraction data show that the samples obtained at pH8.7 are characterized by the presence of the hcp phase of Co (α-Co). The observed reflections of films obtained at pH 8.7 indicate the fcc-Co (β-Co) with the diffraction peak blurring: the greater the pH value of the samples obtained, the more the diffraction peak blurring. It is shown that the induced magnetic anisotropy in high-coercivity films relates to the modification of the Co lattice. The lattice passes from a distorted fcc to an hcp structure during the growth of crystallites in a magnetic field. The induced magnetic anisotropy appears in films that were obtained in the high pH field due to the ordering of magnetic ions pairs.

Аннотация: Ferrihydrite nanoparticles (2–3 nm in size), which are products of the vital activity of microorganisms, are studied by the ferromagnetic resonance method. The “core” of ferrihydrite particles is ordered antiferromagnetically, and the presence of defects leads to the appearance of an uncompensated magnetic moment in nanoparticles and the characteristic superparamagnetic behavior. It is established from the ferromagnetic resonance data that the field dependence of the frequency is described by the expression 2πν/γ = HR + H A(T=0) (1 − T/T*), where γ is the gyromagnetic ratio, HR is the resonance field, HA ≈ 7 kOe, and T* ≈ 50 K. The induced anisotropy HA is due to the spin-glass state of the near-surface regions.

Аннотация: Polycrystalline samples of HoFeTi2O7 were obtained by solid-phase synthesis and investigated using X-ray diffraction, gamma resonance, and SQUID measurements. Characteristics of the structural properties are presented, which give an evidence of the distribution of iron atoms among nonequivalent crystallographic positions and of the nonuniform populating of positions mixed with titanium by the iron atoms. Spin disorder caused by mixing of magnetic and nonmagnetic ions, spatial nonuniformity of the interactions defining the magnetic structure in the crystal lead to formation of concurrent magnetic exchange interactions between the nearest neighbors, frustration of magnetic couplings, and loss of the long-range magnetic ordering. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility at low temperatures was shown to have some peculiarities typical of the magnetic state of spin glass.

Аннотация: The red emission with suitable peak wavelength and narrow band is acutely required for high color rendering index (CRI) white LEDs without at the cost of the luminous efficacy. Herein, the Li2Ca2Mg2Si2N6:Eu2+ red phosphor was prepared with facile solid‐state method using Ca3N2, Mg3N2, Si3N4, Li3N, and Eu2O3 as the safety raw materials under atmospheric pressure for the first time, which shows red emission peaking at 638 nm with full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 62 nm under blue light irradiation and becomes the desired red phosphor to realize the balance between luminous efficacy and high CRI in white LEDs. The morphology, structure, luminescence properties, thermal quenching behavior, and chromaticity stability of the Li2Ca2Mg2Si2N6:Eu2+ phosphor are investigated in detail. Concentration quenching occurs when the Eu2+ content exceeds 1.0 mol%, whereas high‐temperature photoluminescent measurements show a 32% drop from the room‐temperature efficiency at 423 K. In view of the excellent luminescence performances of Li2Ca2Mg2Si2N6:Eu2+ phosphor, a white LEDs with CRI of 91 as a proof‐of‐concept experiment was fabricated by coating the title phosphor with Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ on a blue LED chip. In addition, the potential application of the title phosphor in plant growth LED device was also demonstrated. All the results indicate that Li2Ca2Mg2Si2N6:Eu2+ is a promising red‐emitting phosphor for blue LED‐based high CRI white LEDs and plant growth lighting sources.

Аннотация: As one of the key elements of indoor agriculture, horticultural light sources are developing rapidly towards requiring high energy density, high output power and high stability, which poses a challenge for traditional phosphor conversion devices. To address this, an all-inorganic blue-red dual-emitting light convertor consisting of Ba1.3Sr1.7MgSi2O8:Eu2+,Mn2+ (BSMS) phosphor-in-glass (PiG) plates was prepared to improve the duration lifetime of converted high-power light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and meet the light quality requirements of photosynthesis for indoor agriculture. The obtained samples show an external quantum efficiency of 45.3%, outstanding thermal stability and a specific emission spectrum that highly matches the absorption of chlorophyll and β-carotene. Moreover, a proof-of-concept BSMS-PiG horticultural lamp for application in an indoor plant factory was successfully fabricated based on a ∼370 nm emitting LED chip. The blue-red ratio of its spectrum could be regulated by controlling the thickness of BSMS-PiG and the concentrations of Mn2+ ions within BSMS-PiG. The BSMS-PiG horticultural LEDs were applied to the indoor cultivation of Romaine lettuce. The results indicated that the biomass of Romaine lettuce was 58.21% greater than that of control lettuce samples cultivated under commercial plant lamps. In particular, the content values of total chlorophyll, β-carotene and soluble protein were improved. The BSMS-PiG horticultural LED is a potential candidate to act as a high-power horticultural light source.
