Аннотация: Lead-free non-rare earth oxide phosphors have attracted wide attention due to their environmental protection, sustainability, and potential to replace halides and fluorides in the field of plant lighting. Among them, the Cr3+-excited aluminate phosphor exhibits high brightness, high thermal stability, and far red to near-infrared (NIR) emission due to the influence of the crystal field strength (CFS). This property gives rise to a variety of strategies used to modulate the CFS, for example, single ion substitution, chemical unit co-substitution, etc. Here, we chose the substitution of a single ion, with [BaO6] gradually replacing [SrO6] to form a solid solution. Their structural characteristics and the local structure of Cr3+ are studied and discussed. The device is packaged to evaluate the feasibility of the material for practical application. The prepared phosphor had a bright far-red light emission of 693 nm under blue light excitation, and this spectrum strongly matched the absorption of plant phytochrome PFR. This work provides the design principle of far red light emission activated by Cr3+ aluminate solid solution, which can inspire further research on pc-LED lights for plant lighting.

Аннотация: The modulation and spectral characteristics of self-organized ensembles of nematic domains with the disclination lines non-aligned and aligned in a magnetic field have been studied using an electric field. The obtained experimental voltage dependences of the light transmission agree well with the dependences calculated using the model considerations. These dependences have been compared with the electro-optical characteristics of a homogeneous planar nematic layer. The amplitude component of the optical transmission determined by light scattering and the oscillating component caused by the phase modulation have been examined. The effect of the spectral dispersion of transmission on the electro-optical characteristics of domain ensembles has been evaluated.

Аннотация: Aptamers are currently being investigated for their potential to improve virotherapy. They offer several advantages, including the ability to prevent the aggregation of viral particles, enhance target specificity, and protect against the neutralizing effects of antibodies. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively investigate an aptamer capable of enhancing virotherapy. This involved characterizing the previously selected aptamer for vaccinia virus (VACV), evaluating the aggregation and molecular interaction of the optimized aptamers with the recombinant oncolytic virus VV-GMCSF-Lact, and estimating their immunoshielding properties in the presence of human blood serum. We chose one optimized aptamer, NV14t_56, with the highest affinity to the virus from the pool of several truncated aptamers and built its 3D model. The NV14t_56 remained stable in human blood serum for 1 h and bound to VV-GMCSF-Lact in the micromolar range (Kd ≈ 0.35 μM). Based on dynamic light scattering data, it has been demonstrated that aptamers surround viral particles and inhibit aggregate formation. In the presence of serum, the hydrodynamic diameter (by intensity) of the aptamer–virus complex did not change. Microscale thermophoresis (MST) experiments showed that NV14t_56 binds with virus (EC50 = 1.487 × 109 PFU/mL). The analysis of the amplitudes of MST curves reveals that the components of the serum bind to the aptamer–virus complex without disrupting it. In vitro experiments demonstrated the efficacy of VV-GMCSF-Lact in conjunction with the aptamer when exposed to human blood serum in the absence of neutralizing antibodies (Nabs). Thus, NV14t_56 has the ability to inhibit virus aggregation, allowing VV-GMCSF-Lact to maintain its effectiveness throughout the storage period and subsequent use. When employing aptamers as protective agents for oncolytic viruses, the presence of neutralizing antibodies should be taken into account.

Аннотация: Mn4+-activated fluorides with a saturated red color and sharp line emission are ideal for applications in the light-emitting diodes (LEDs) backlight for displays. However, the emissions attributed to 2E→4A2 parity and spin-forbidden transitions limit the design and adjustments of emission wavelength and chromaticity coordinates. Herein, machine learning algorithms are used to build a wavelength-prediction model for Mn4+-activated fluorides. The model precisely identifies the key structural features that affect wavelengths and discovers target materials. The predicted candidate Cs2NaAlF6:Mn4+ (CNAF) with a long-wavelength zero-phonon-line emission at 628 nm exhibits a redshift in comparison with other reported Mn4+-activated fluorides and commercial K2SiF6:Mn4+, but maintains narrow spectral emission with full-width half maximum (FWHM) of 11.2 nm. The redshift and narrow spectra result in a color purity of 99.7% and Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinate of (0.7032,0.2967) that is close to the pure red-light point of Recommendation BT. 2020 (Rec. 2020). Moreover, CNAF is prepared as a transparent red-light film, and the device fabricated using the blue-light mini-LEDs, green quantum-dot film, and CNAF film exhibits a wide color-gamut of 121.5% National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) or 90.6% Rec. 2020, suggesting that CNAF has potential for wide-color-gamut displays.

Аннотация: We’ve studied the B800 part of Rhodoblastus acidophilus light-harvesting complex (LH2) by several quantum chemical techniques based on the density functional theory (DFT) and determined the specific method and a minimal reliable model suitable for further studies of the LH2. In addition to bacteriochlorophyll a molecules, the minimal model includes two α and one β chain amino acids. Within the model, we are able to reproduce the contribution of the B800 ring of nine bacteriochlorophyll a molecules to the near infrared Qy absorption band. We also discuss the use of hybrid DFT calculations for precise energy and optical estimations and DFT-based tight binding (DFTB) method for the large-scale calculations. Crucial importance of Hartree-Fock exchange interaction for the correct description of B800 peak position was shown.

Аннотация: The aim of the current study was to find the most effective spectral modes of irradiation of short-season plants (for example, radish) using a fluorescent LED irradiator with a variable spectrum. The research methodology was based on the species-specific response of plants to the spectral composition of light. Photo-biological experiments were carried out to find effective spectral composition of PAR for cultivating radish communities under stable and variable irradiation modes of electrical lighting. It was shown that under stable irradiation modes, the highest productivity of economically useful radish biomass had been achieved at spectral composition with a maximum of 60 % radiation in the (600–700) nm region in a variable spectral irradiation mode. The variable spectral irradiation mode turned out to be the most effective when the spectral composition with the dominance of red rays was changed to the spectral composition with the dominance of blue rays. There were no significant differences between the best production parameters for stable and variable modes of irradiation of radish plants, which indicates the expediency of choosing the stable spectral mode of irradiation of radish plants as a short-season crop under electrical illumination. The results obtained can be used to select spectral irradiation modes for short-season plants grown under electrical lighting in northern regions and in isolated rooms in various climatic zones using "City-farm" technologies.

Аннотация: The discovery of novel Mn2+-based metal halides with excellent luminescence properties and thermostability is particularly of great importance for solid-state lighting (SSL). Herein, a novel one-dimensional hybrid manganese chloride (TMA)MnCl3 of a hexagonal system with a P63/m space group is synthesized via a simple saturation crystallization method. Under 443 nm excitation, (TMA)MnCl3 single crystals exhibit a strong broad-band red emission peak at 645 nm originating from the 4T1 → 6A1 transition of Mn2+ ions with a full width at half maximum of 99 nm and a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 98.6%. Moreover, (TMA)MnCl3 shows a high anti-thermal quenching behavior, and the integrated PL intensity still retains 100% of the initial intensity measured at 300 °C, caused by the high structural rigidity. Benefiting from its strong blue light excitation, high PLQY, and excellent thermal stability, a stable white light-emitting diode device is fabricated by combining a 465 nm blue LED chip, green-emitting Lu3Al5O12:Ce3+ and the (TMA)MnCl3 red phosphor with a high color rendering index of 94.3% and a correlated color temperature of 3995 K. This work develops a novel hybrid manganese chloride red-emitter and paves a new path to explore high-performance phosphors excited by blue light for SSL.

Аннотация: Structural transformations of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) go through a complex energy landscape with multiple intermediate states. Although the transformations allow controlling the functional properties of the MOFs, an imbalance between MOF flexibility and rigidity sets a fundamental barrier to achieving fast and multiple transformations. Here, we study the stimuli-responsive structural transformation in a 2D MOF assembled from paddle-wheel secondary building units joined by a semi-flexible organic ligand with 1,2,4-triazole and carboxylate groups with a rigid adamantane cage between them. The structure results in a distinctive combination of MOF flexibility and rigidity, thus, facilitating a continuous transformation driven by laser light. We reveal the laser-induced anisotropic thermal expansion nature of such transformation, initiating optical changes of the 2D MOF. The latter is utilized for fast and highly repeatable optical modulation of over 10,000 cycles. The endurance of such a 2D MOF-based optical modulator during 1 year of storage at ambient conditions paves the way to design tunable and robust MOFs for diverse applications.

Аннотация: The discovery of high-efficiency Mn4+-activated fluoride red phosphors with short excited-state lifetimes (ESLs) is urgent and crucial for high-quality, wide-color-gamut display applications. However, it is still a great challenge to design target phosphors with both short ESL and high luminescence efficiency. Herein, we propose an efficient machine learning approach based on a small dataset to establish the ESL prediction model, thereby facilitating the discovery of new Mn4+-activated fluorides with short ESLs. Such a model can not only accurately predict the ESLs of Mn4+ in fluorides but also quantify the impact of structure features on ESLs, therefore elucidating the “structure-lifetime” correlations. Guided by the correlations, two new Mn4+-doped tetramethylammonium (TMA)-based hybrid fluorides (TMA)2BF6:Mn4+ (B = Sn or Hf) with both short ESLs (τ ≤ 3.7 ms) and high quantum efficiencies (internal QEs ˃ 92%, external QEs ˃ 55%) have been discovered successfully. A prototype displayer with excellent performance (∼124% National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) color gamut) is assembled by employing a (TMA)2SnF6:Mn4+-based white Mini-LED backlight module, demonstrating its practical prospects in high-quality displays. This work not only brings promising candidates for Mn4+-doped fluoride phosphors but also provides a valuable reference for accelerating the discovery of new promising phosphors.

Аннотация: Исследованы структурные, магнито- и электрооптические свойства самоорганизованного ансамбля нематических доменов, сформированных на пленке поликарбоната в присутствии остаточного растворителя. Пленка наносилась на одну из плоскопараллельных стеклянных пластин жидкокристаллической ячейки. Магнитное поле, стабилизирующее планарную ориентацию жидкого кристалла, прикладывалось параллельно, а переориентирующее электрическое поле направлялось перпендикулярно поверхностям ячейки. Получены зависимости интенсивности прошедшего через доменный ансамбль света от электрического напряжения при различных фиксированных значениях магнитного поля. Проведено сравнение экспериментальных зависимостей с расчетными, определенными с использованием процедуры минимизации свободной энергии жидкого кристалла, с хорошим совпадением результатов. Из сопоставления структурной, магнитной и электрической длин когерентностей оценено взаимное влияние структурных элементов ансамбля и эффекты фазовой модуляции света.Structural, magneto- and electro-optical properties of a self-organized ensemble of nematic domains (SEND) formed on a polycarbonate film in the presence of a residual solvent have been studied. The film was deposited on one of the plane-parallel glass plates of a liquid-crystal cell. The magnetic field stabilizing the planar orientation of the liquid crystal was applied in parallel, while the reorienting electric field was directed perpendicular to the cell surfaces. The dependences of the intensity of light transmitted through the domain ensemble on the electric voltage are obtained for various fixed values of the magnetic field. The experimental dependences are compared with the calculated ones determined using the procedure for minimizing the free energy of the liquid crystal, with good agreement between the results. From a comparison of the structural, magnetic, and electrical coherence lengths, the mutual influence of the structural elements of the ensemble and the effects of phase modulation of light are estimated.
