Аннотация: We describe a capacitive dilatometer for measuring the magnetostriction, piezoelectric effect, and linear thermal-expansion coefficient in the temperature range from 1.85 to 350 K in external magnetic fields of up to 90 kOe under a voltage of 1 kV, which operates on the basis of a Quantum Design PPMS commercial facility for studying the properties of solids.

Аннотация: The ground state of a two-dimensional antiferromagnet with S = 1/2 interacting with acoustic phonons in a magnetic field was studied by the quantum Monte Carlo method in the nonadiabatic approximation. Oscillations of the amplitude of the root-mean-square displacement of ions and the average phonon occupation number in a magnetic field were found. Local maxima were revealed in the distribution functions of site magnetic moments and ion displacements. The saturation magnetization was calculated as a function of the spin-phonon coupling constant. (C) 2004 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The colossal (more than threefold) decrease in the dielectric constant E in the easy-plane SmFe3(BO3)(4) ferroborate in a magnetic field of similar to 5 kOe applied in the basal ab plane of the crystal has been found. A close relation of this effect to anomalies in the field dependence of the electric polarization has been established. It has been shown that this magnetodielectric effect is due to the contribution to E from the electric susceptibility, which is related to the rotation of spins in the ab plane, arises in the region of the antiferromagnetic ordering T T (N) and electric polarization in the magnetic field has been proposed, taking into account the additional anisotropy in the basal plane induced by the magnetoelastic stresses.

Аннотация: Electro- and magnetostriction mechanisms and temperature behavior of the length of bismuth-substituted neodymium iron garnet films on glass and gallium gadolinium garnet have been investigated. Electric- and magnetic-field and temperature dependences of the electro- and magnetostriction constants have been determined. It has been established that the magnetostriction constant changes its sign upon temperature variation. The experimental data are explained using a model of dipole glass with the magnetoelectric and magnetoelastic interaction.

Аннотация: Temperature and magnetic field dependences of the magnetic susceptibility and dielectric permittivity of the α-MnS single crystal with NaCl structure are first investigated at around Neel temperature and at 4.2 K and H up to 70 kOe. A relation between the investigated properties was established. The founded phenomena can be due to the magnetostriction or magnetoelastic mechanism and the spin-dependent dipole moment.

Аннотация: Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and magnetostriction of the Cu2MnBO5 single crystal have been studied. The EPR spectrum consists of a single Lorentzian line due to the exchange-coupled system of spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions. It has been established experimentally that the g-factor in the paramagnetic region is strongly anisotropic and anomalously small, which is not typical of the exchange-coupled system of spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions. At a temperature of 150 K, the g-factors along the crystallographic a, b, and c axes are 2.04, 1.96, and 1.87, respectively. Such small effective g-factor values can be due to the effect of the anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interaction between the spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions directed along the a axis. The presence of two Cu2+ and Mn3+ Jahn-Teller ions occupying four nonequivalent positions in the crystal is responsible for the absence of the inversion center. It is found that the behavior of the magnetostriction of Cu2MnBO5 is not typical of transition-metal crystals but is closer to the behavior of crystals containing rare-earth ions.

Аннотация: The main features of the magnetic, magnetoelastic and record magnetoelectric properties of a HoAl3(BO3)4 alumoborate single crystal have been studied experimentally and theoretically. For magnetic field B||a we have observed a giant polarization ΔPba(Ba) ≈ -5240 μC/m2 induced by field of 9 T at T = 5 K. We have calculated the magnetic characteristics of HoAl3(BO3)4 in the framework of a crystal-field model. The parameters of the crystal-field in HoAl3(BO3)4 have been determined. Good agreement of experimental and calculated magnetization curves Mc,˄c(B) and temperature dependences of magnetization Mc,˄c(T) was achieved. The field and temperature dependences of the multipole moments have been calculated for interpretation of magnetostriction in HoAl3(BO3)4. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
Экспериментально и теоретически исследованы основные особенности магнитных и рекордных магнитоэлектрических свойств монокристалла алюмобората HoAl3(BO3)4. Обнаружена гигантская электрическая поляризация DPba(Ba) — –5240 мкКл/м2, индуцированная магнитным полем 9 Тл при Т = 5 К. Измеренные магнитные свойства и обнаруженные особенности проинтерпретированы в рамках единого теоретического подхода, который базируется на приближении молекулярного поля и расчетах в модели кристаллического поля для редкоземельного иона. Описаны экспериментальные температурные от 3 до 300 К и полевые до 9 Тл зависимости намагниченности. При интерпретации экспериментальных данных определены параметры кристаллического поля тригональной симметрии для иона Ho3+ в HoAl3(BO3)4.

Аннотация: The magnetostriction of CuGcO(3) single crystals has been measured in the temperature range from 5 to 16 K in magnetic fields up to 12 T. Giant values of the magnetostrictive strains along the b-axis is observed near the phase transition from the dimerized phase to the high field magnetic phase. The field induced magnetostriction in the antiferromagnetic phase is considerably smaller than in the dimerized phase.

Аннотация: Magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of ferroborate single crystals with complex composition (Tb1 - x Er (x) Fe-3(BO3)(4), x = 0, 0.75) and with competing exchange Tb-Fe and Er-Fe interactions are investigated. Jumps in electric polarization, magnetostriction, and magnetization are observed as a result of spin-flop transitions, as well as a considerable decrease in the critical field upon an increase in the Er concentration, in a field H (c) parallel to the c axis. The observed behavior of phase-transition fields is analyzed and explained using a simple model taking into account anisotropy in g factors and exchange splitting of funda-mental doublets of the easy-axis Tb3+ ion and easy-plane Er3+ ion. It is established that magnetoelectric and magnetostriction anomalies under spin-flop transitions are mainly controlled by the Tb subsystem. The Tb subsystem makes a nonmonotonic contribution Delta P (a) (H (a) , T) to polarization along the a axis: the value of Delta P (a) reverses its sign and increases with temperature due to the contribution from the excited states of the Tb3+ ion.
