Аннотация: The possible combinations of different octahedral tilts are considered for layered crystals having an even number of octahedral layers in perovskite-like slabs. A simple method to determine the resultant space-group symmetry is proposed, and the distorted phases are enumerated, both for a single kind of tilt around axes of the initial structure G 0=I4/mmm and for superpositions of different tilts in the slabs. Some of the tilt systems correspond to symmetry changes due to definite irreducible representations of G 0. In the single-layered crystals, l=1, A 2BX 4. Some of the representations correspond to lattice modes observed experimentally. No such modes have been found yet for even-layered (l=2n) crystals. A comparison with known experimental data is performed. The data obtained can be used for the proposition of 'trial models' in the course of structural analysis of related crystals.

Аннотация: The analysis of hydrostatic pressure influence on ferroelastic phase transitions in three- and two-dimensional perovskite-like crystals is carried out. The nonlinear effects and the change of the dT0/dp sign are discussed on the ground of the thermodynamic theory. Simple model of rigid spheres is used to connect the T0 shift under pressure with the bonds stresses.

Аннотация: A system of mutual relationships (a hierarchy) is constructed between various perovskite-like crystal structures based on available structural data. All the perovskite-like structures are characterized by a common indicator of their relationship-the presence of layers, stacks, or frameworks made up of BX6 octahedra linked at their vertices (where B is a cation, X is an anion) or fragments of octahedra in the form of BX5 pyramids or BX4 squares in anion-deficient compounds. In layered structures, these stacks are joined to each other by various intermediate blocks. It is well known that one homological series of compounds is constructed by increasing the number of layers in a stack while preserving the same kind of connecting block. Crystals of various series that contain identical stacks (but different blocks of one or two types) can also be related to one another via this feature. The hierarchical system includes compounds with small distortions in their structures for various reasons. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация: The structures of the well-known perovskite-like crystals, including stoichiometric and both cation- and anion-dencient compounds, are considered as intergrowth systems of stacks consisting either of n layers (n = 1 - ?) connected via the vertices of the BX6 octahedra or of combinations of layers of octahedra, BX5 pyramids, and planar networks of BX4 squares with intermediate block layers of various types. The classification of stacks and block layers in these structures is suggested. Based on this classification, the known structure types are considered and new structure types, including various possible superconductor structures, are predicted.

Аннотация: Structures of the known perovskite-like crystals are considered as the systems of slabs containing n layers (n = 1, 2,..., infinity) vertices-linked octahedra BX6, pyramids BX5 or planar square nets BX4 (B - cation, X - anion) intergrowing with blocks of different types. Using these fragments whole variety of stoichiometric, cation-and anion-deficient structures can be constructed and many new perovskite-like layered crystals including ferroelectrics, ferroelastics and HTSC's may be found.

Аннотация: Many compounds with general chemical formula A2BB?X6 and with tolerance factor value t < 1 crystallize in the elpasolite (ordered perovskite) structure. Different preparative methods have been considered. For example, the Bridgman technique is the most suitable method of growing single crystals of halogenated elpasolites with monoatomic cations. Group-theory and symmetry analyses have allowed us to build a scheme of possible structural distortions connected with octahedral rotations and displacements of ions. Experimental observations have proven that ferroelastic phase transitions occurring most frequently in elpasolites are due to small octahedra tilts. Quantitative analysis allows the possibility of describing these transitions in the framework of the thermodynamic Landau theory. Hydrostatic pressure and the substitution of atoms in different crystallographic sites allow to change significantly the succession and the temperature of phase transitions. The hypothesis of bond stresses is able to predict the possible occurrence of a phase transition for a particular elpasolite and/or the role of the octahedra rotations in the transformation. The mechanism of phase transitions in elpasolites and related compounds has also been considered. One can assume that a displacive mechanism associated with a strong anharmonicity plays a large role in phase transitions occurring in compounds with monoatomic cations. On the other hand, for instance, in cryolites with ammonium cations, the transitions originate from an order-disorder phenomenon. В© 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: We propose a t-J-I model with direct ferromagnetic exchange I to explain the superconductivity of copper oxides and the ruthenate Sr2RuO4 on the basis of the analysis of the electronic structure of these substances. We analyze the possible p- and d-type superconducting solutions. Solutions of the s type with singlet pairings are impossible in the strong-electron-correlations regime, and p-type solutions correspond to triplet superconductivity and is formed near the ferromagnetic instability threshold in ruthenates. The solution with the d(x)(2)-y(2) symmetry near the antiferromagnetic instability threshold corresponds to copper oxides. We also discuss the reason for the high values of the superconducting transition temperature (T(c)similar to 100 K) in copper oxides and the low values (T(c)similar to 1 K) in ruthenates.
