Аннотация: Porosity affects the properties of high-Tc superconductors and can improve their performance by enhancing oxygenation, cryocooling, etc. Among other factors, the presence of pores plays a significant role in the process of magnetic flux trapping. Relationships with the porosity manifest in the irreversibility field, the full penetration field, and the remnant magnetization of the samples. To account for the effect of porosity on the trapped magnetic flux into type-II superconductors, a simple toy model is suggested. Generally, as the porosity increases, the trapped flux and related parameters tend to diminish. However, in the case of microscopic samples, porosity can enhance magnetic flux trapping.

Аннотация: The results of a study of the dynamic (alternating current magnetic susceptibility) and static magnetic properties, as well as 57Fe Mössbauer spectrometry and ferromagnetic resonance of two-line ferrihydrite nanoparticle systems with varying intensities of magnetic interparticle interactions are reported. The strength of the magnetic interparticle interactions has been tuned by coating (with various degrees of coating) the ferrihydrite particles (2–4 nm in size and an average size ∼2.7 nm) of the initial synthetic sample by arabinogalactan. Also, a biogenic ferrihydrite sample (an average particle size of 2-nm) with a natural organic coating was studied and it has the weakest magnetic interparticle interactions among of all the samples. Relaxation times of the particle’s magnetic moment were determined by the data of static and dynamic magnetic susceptibilities and from analysis of 57Fe Mössbauer spectrometry. Based on the temperature dependences of the relaxation times, it has been concluded that the predominantly collective processes of freezing of the particle magnetic moments occur under the action of the magnetic interparticle interactions. It is shown that an important role in these processes is played by a magnetic subsystem of the surface spins of the particles. The effect of the interplay between the surface spin and magnetic moment subsystems on the static magnetic properties (low-temperature magnetic hysteresis loops) and the parameters of the microwave absorption line under the magnetic resonance conditions is discussed.

Аннотация: Layered two-dimensional materials, whose properties dramatically differ from their bulk precursors, are of great theoretical and applied importance. Recently, a layered 2D material, an analog of a natural mineral, valleriite, in which quasi-monoatomic Cu−Fe−S sheets alternate with brucite-like ones, has been prepared using a simple hydrothermal synthesis procedure. The features of the electronic structure of these materials make it possible to propose them as new materials for a wide field of applications such as (electro)photocatalysis, high-capacity batteries, etc. In this work, nanocomposite materials have been prepared via immobilization of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) from citrate hydrosols on the surface of the synthesized valleriites having different compositions of hydroxide layers, which control the surface charge density. According to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) data, AuNPs are immobilized on valleriite nanoflakes, which have lateral sizes of 150–200 nm and thicknesses of several tens of nanometers, as isolated metal nanoparticles with an average diameter of 11 nm. A small amount of aggregates indicates a high affinity of AuNPs for the valleriite surface. The amounts of immobilized gold are the same on all studied valleriites (~0.2%). This finding may be related to the simultaneous sorption of free citrate ions from the AuNP hydrosols, with these ions, according to zeta potential measurements, charging the surfaces of all studied valleriite samples to nearly the same negative value of –40 mV. According to the XPS data, the AuNPs immobilization markedly decreases the magnesium and oxygen contents on the surfaces of the synthesized valleriites due to the partial degradation/dissolution of the brucite layer. In addition, the amount of Fe3+ ions bound to OH groups decreases with a simultaneous increase in the fraction of Fe3+–O species. The TEM data have confirmed the preservation of the layered structure of valleriites after the immobilization of AuNPs.

Аннотация: The morphology and magnetic properties as well as adsorption capacity and catalytic activity of Fe3O4-Ag nanoparticles synthesized by the solvothermal method were studied in dependence on the duration of the thermolysis process (3, 6, and 8 h). X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy measurements showed that the morphology of nanoparticles changed strongly as the duration of thermolysis increased. At 6 and 8 h duration, Fe3O4 nanocrystals grow and assemble into porous spherical globules with an Ag core (samples 2 and 3). These samples demonstrate high magnetization value and very low coercivity. The adsorption capacity of nanoparticles was studied with respect to two organic dyes: cationic methylene blue (MB) and anionic Congo red (CR). The particles showed preferential adsorption of the cationic dye. High catalytic activity towards four dyes: MB, methyl orange (MO), CR, and Rhodamine C (RhC) at the presence of NaBH4 is the remarkable property of these samples. The rate constant of the catalytic reaction was 1.4 min−1. Simultaneous exposure of CR and MO dyes to nanoparticles and NaBH4 caused their irreversible 100 % degradation while in the case of MB and RhC, a transition to their leuco form occurred.

Аннотация: MnBi2Te4, Mn(Bi,Sb)2Te4, and MnBi2Te4(Bi2Te3)m (m ≥ 1) are assigned to magnetic topological insulators. Successful application of these materials in nanoelectronic devices calls for comprehensive investigation of their electronic structure and magnetic properties in dependence of the Bi/Sb atomic ratio and the number m of Bi2Te3 blocks. The magnetic properties of the surface of MnBi2Te4, MnBi4Te7, and Mn(Bi1-xSbx)2Te4 compounds (x = 0.43 and 0.32) have been studied using the magneto-optical Kerr effect. It is shown that the temperatures of magnetic transitions on the surface and in the bulk of MnBi4Te7 and Mn(Bi, Sb)2Te4 differ significantly.

Аннотация: Holes drilled in a type-II superconductor trap the magnetic flux. Following Clem’s flux pinning model, we consider surface pinning as a mechanism for compressing the magnetic flux in the holes. Estimations of the trapped magnetic flux demonstrate that the holes with the diameter up to 2 mm are advantageous for bulk single-crystal REBCO samples. The REBCO films and tapes can be improved by the holes with diameter smaller than 10 μm.

Аннотация: В работе предложен новый способ определения параметров шероховатостей и корреляционной функции (КФ) сверхгладких диэлектрических пластин. Способ основан на нахождении из экспериментальной индикатрисы рассеивания света коэффициентов разложения (КФ) в ряд по системе ортогональных функций с последующим вычислением среднеквадратичных отклонений высот неровностей поверхности σ и периода корреляции Т. Отличительными особенностями метода являются: 1) отсутствие неоднозначности, возникающей при подгонке к экспериментальной кривой рассеяния теоретических зависимостей с разными корреляционными функциями, которые сами зависят от параметров шероховатостей; 2) возможность избежать необходимости измерять индикатрису рассеяния во всей полусфере над образцом. Данный способ определения КФ и параметров шероховатости поверхности может применяться для любого типа границ раздела при соблюдении критерия Рэлея, определяющего степень неровности поверхности отражения по отношению к длине волны падающего излучения. Поэтому объектами исследования могут быть не только поверхности с нанометровыми шероховатостями, облучаемые лазерным светом, но и, например, земные покровы при их дистанционном зондировании радиосигналами навигационных спутников. Для полированных пластин кварца получены значения параметров поверхностей, близкие к аналогичным величинам, измеренным независимо на лазерном интерференционном профилометре другими авторами.The paper proposes a new method for determining the roughness parameters and the correlation function (CF) of supersmooth dielectric plates. The method is based on finding the expansion coefficients (CF) from the experimental light scattering indicatrix in a series according to a system of orthogonal functions, followed by the calculation of the standard deviations of the surface irregularity heights σ and the correlation period Т. Distinctive features of the method are: 1) the absence of ambiguity that arises when fitting theoretical dependences with different correlation functions, which themselves depend on the roughness parameters, to the experimental scattering curve; 2) the possibility of avoiding the need to measure the scattering indicatrix in the entire hemisphere above the sample. This method for determining the CF and surface roughness parameters can be used for any type of interface, subject to the Rayleigh criterion, which determines the degree of roughness of the reflection surface with respect to the wavelength of the incident radiation. Therefore, the objects of study can be not only surfaces with nanometer roughness irradiated by laser light, but also, for example, earth covers during their remote sensing by radio signals from navigation satellites. For polished quartz plates, the values of the surface parameters were obtained close to similar values measured independently on a laser interference profilometer by other authors.

Аннотация: TiNi alloys are very widely used materials in implant fabrication. When applied in rib replacement, they are required to be manufactured as combined porous-monolithic structures, ideally with a thin, porous part well-adhered to its monolithic substrate. Additionally, good biocompatibility, high corrosion resistance and mechanical durability are also highly demanded. So far, all these parameters have not been achieved in one material, which is why an active search in the field is still underway. In the present study, we prepared new porous-monolithic TiNi materials by sintering a TiNi powder (0–100 μm) on monolithic TiNi plates, followed by surface modification with a high-current pulsed electron beam. The obtained materials were evaluated by a set of surface and phase analysis methods, after which their corrosion resistance and biocompatibility (hemolysis, cytotoxicity, and cell viability) were evaluated. Finally, cell growth tests were conducted. In comparison with flat TiNi monoliths, the newly developed materials were found to have better corrosion resistance, also demonstrating good biocompatibility and potential for cell growth on their surface. Thus, the newly developed porous-on-monolith TiNi materials with different surface porosity and morphology showed promise as potential new-generation implants for use in rib endoprostheses.

Аннотация: The results of surface modification of solvent casting films made from polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) of various compositions are presented: homopolymer poly-3-hydroxybutyrate P(3HB) and copolymers comprising various combinations of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB), 3-hydroxyvalerate (3HV), 4-hydroxybutyrate(4HB), and 3-hydroxyhexanoate (3HHx) monomers treated with a CO2 laser in continuous and quasi-pulsed radiation modes. The effects of PHAs film surface modification, depending on the composition and ratio of monomers according to the results of the study of SEM and AFM, contact angles of wetting with water, adhesion and growth of fibroblasts have been revealed for the laser radiation regime used. Under continuous irradiation with vector lines, melted regions in the form of grooves are formed on the surface of the films, in which most of the samples have increased values of the contact angle and a decrease in roughness. The quasi-pulse mode by the raster method causes the formation of holes without pronounced melted zones, the total area of which is lower by 20% compared to the area of melted grooves. The number of viable fibroblasts NIH 3T3 on the films after the quasi-pulse mode is 1.5–2.0 times higher compared to the continuous mode, and depends to a greater extent on the laser treatment mode than on the PHAs’ composition. The use of various modes of laser modification on the surface of PHAs with different compositions makes it possible to influence the morphology and properties of polymer films in a targeted manner. The results that have been obtained contribute to solving the critical issue of functional biodegradable polymeric materials.

Аннотация: The current study evaluates the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in bioeffects of magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs), such as bare (Fe3O4), humic acids (Fe3O4-HA), and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (Fe3O4-APTES) modified MNPs. Mössbauer spectroscopy was used to identify the local surrounding for Fe atom/ions and the depth of modification for MNPs. It was found that the Fe3O4-HA MNPs contain the smallest, whereas the Fe3O4-APTES MNPs contain the largest amount of Fe2+ ions. Bioluminescent cellular and enzymatic assays were applied to monitor the toxicity and anti-(pro-)oxidant activity of MNPs. The contents of ROS were determined by a chemiluminescence luminol assay evaluating the correlations with toxicity/anti-(pro-)oxidant coefficients. Toxic effects of modified MNPs were found at higher concentrations (10−2 g/L); they were related to ROS storage in bacterial suspensions. MNPs stimulated ROS production by the bacteria in a wide concentration range (10−15–1 g/L). Under the conditions of model oxidative stress and higher concentrations of MNPs (10−4 g/L), the bacterial bioassay revealed prooxidant activity of all three MNP types, with corresponding decay of ROS content. Bioluminescence enzymatic assay did not show any sensitivity to MNPs, with negligible change in ROS content. The results clearly indicate that cell-membrane processes are responsible for the bioeffects and bacterial ROS generation, confirming the ferroptosis phenomenon based on iron-initiated cell-membrane lipid peroxidation.

Аннотация: Polymorphic modification of iron oxide, known as ε-Fe2O3, exists only in the form of nanoparticles with characteristic sizes up to several tens of nanometers. Particles of these sizes exhibit a large coercive force, about 20 kOe at room temperature. In the temperature range of 80–150 K, a magnetic transition occurs in ε-Fe2O3, accompanied by a sharp decrease in the coercive force. At the same time, there are significant differences in the magnetic behavior of "large" (~20 nm) particles and ultra-small particles (up to 6 nm). A number of experimental facts indicate the manifestation of size effects that lead to a change in the magnetic structure in particles of these sizes. In addition, a surface effect is also manifested for such particles - a significant contribution to the magnetic behavior is governed by surface magnetic anisotropy. In this paper, a brief review of the manifestation of these size and surface effects in the magnetic properties of ε-Fe2O3 nanoparticles is carried out.

Аннотация: Effect of the spin-orbit coupling on the band structure and the Fermi surface of the three-orbital model is studied. The inter-orbital part of the model is reformulated to fully conform with the iron lattice symmetry. Because there are two iron ions in the unit cell, we introduce the intra-and inter-ion spin-orbit coupling constants to separate the effect of the related couplings on the band structure and the Fermi surface. Both the intra-and inter-ion parts lift the degeneracy of some bands at the Γ = (0, 0) point and the splitting of bands along the (0, π) ‒ (π, π) direction of the Brillouin zone. We show that the inter-ion part of the spin-orbit coupling leads to the topological change of the Fermi surface — the splitting of two Fermi surface sheets around the M = (π, π) point.Изучено влияние спин-орбитального взаимодействия на зонную структуру и поверхность Ферми в трехорбитальной модели. Межорбитальная часть модели изменена для полного соответствия с симметрией решетки железа. Из-за наличия двух ионов железа в элементарной ячейке мы вводим внутри- и межионную константы спин-орбитального взаимодействия для разделения эффектов соответствующих взаимодействий на зонную структуру и поверхность Ферми. И внутри, и межионная части снимают вырождение некоторых зон в точке Γ = (0, 0) и вырождение вдоль направления (0, π) − (π, π) зоны Бриллюэна. Показано, что межионная часть спин-орбитального взаимодействия приводит к изменению топологии поверхности Ферми, а именно к разделению листов поверхности Ферми вблизи точки M = (π, π).

Аннотация: We have analyzed chemical bonding of atmospheric oxygen with chromium and manganese on the epitaxial MAX-phase (Cr0.5Mn0.5)2GaC surface using Auger electron spectroscopy combined with ion etching. It was found that the system has a specific anisotropic oxidation where oxygen atoms bind to chromium and manganese ones more actively at the faces of layered MAX phase crystallites in contrast to the (0001) basal plane. At the same time, the dominance of the Mn–O chemical bonding over Cr–O is observed on the latter.

Аннотация: Изобретение относится к апертурным антеннам и предназначено для приема и передачи электромагнитных волн. Устройство состоит из возбудителя, формирующего поверхностную волну, и открытой периодической замедляющей структуры, являющейся излучающей апертурой антенны. Замедляющая структура представляет собой металлическую гофрированную поверхность с периодическим профилем гофрирования, над которой расположен перемещающийся вдоль поверхности лист иэлектрика с нанесенными на него металлическими полосковыми проводниками одинаковой ширины. Период расположения полосковых проводников совпадает с периодом гофрирования металлической поверхности. Перемещение листа диэлектрика происходит в направлении, перпендикулярном направлению проводников. При сдвиге листа диэлектрика на расстояние не более, чем половина периода гофрирования металлической поверхности, главный лепесток диаграммы направленности антенны изменяет направление в диапазоне углов, зависящем от параметров замедляющей структуры. Изобретение обеспечивает изменения направления главного лепестка диаграммы направленности. 6 ил.

Аннотация: The paper studies parameters of the snow-ice cover and forest ground determined by the integrated approach based on the global navigation satellite system reflectometry. Experimental data on the amplitude and time response of satellite navigation signals are processed by fast Fourier transform and then analyzed using mathematical methods based on the multipath echoes model in terms of geometrical optics. Using a combination of reflectometry and numerical simulation of the surface layers based on local weather data, it is possible to evaluate not only the current state of these layers, but also predict their dynamic development.

Аннотация: We prepared two samples of ultrafine ferrihydrite (FH) nanoparticle ensembles of quite a different origin. First is the biosynthesized sample (as a product of the vital activity of bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca (hereinafter marked as FH-bact) with a natural organic coating and negligible magnetic interparticle interactions. And the second one is the chemically synthesized ferrihydrite (hereinafter FH-chem) without any coating and high level of the interparticle interactions. The interparticle magnetic interactions have been tuned by modifying the nanoparticle surface in both samples. The coating of the FH-bact sample has been partially removed by annealing at 150℃ for 24 h (hereinafter FH-annealed). The FH-chem sample, vice versa, has been coated (1.0 g) with biocompatible polysaccharide (arabinogalactan) in an ultrasonic bath for 10 min (hereinafter FH-coated). The changes in the surface properties of nanoparticles have been controlled by XPS. According to the electron microscopy data, the modification of the nanoparticle surface does not drastically change the particle shape and size. A change in the average nanoparticle size in sample FH-annealed to 3.3 nm relative to the value in the other samples (2.6 nm) has only been observed. The estimated particle coating thickness is about 0.2-0.3 nm for samples FH-bact and FH-coated and 0.1 nm for sample FH-annealed. Mössbauer and magnetization measurements are definitely shown that the drastic change in the blocking temperature is caused by the interparticle interactions. The experimental temperature dependences of the hyperfine field hf(T) for samples FH-bact and FH-coated have not revealed the effect of interparticle interactions. Otherwise, the interparticle interaction energy Eint estimated from the hf(T) for samples FH-chem and FH-annealed has been found to be 121kB and 259kB, respectively.

Аннотация: The objective of this study was to produce and characterize collagen conjugated poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (P3HB) microparticles. The double emulsion solvent evaporation technique was used to fabricate biopolymer microparticles. Alkaline hydrolysis method was used for carboxylation of P3HB microparticles followed by collagen (type I) conjugation using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dime-thylaminopropyl) carbodiimide and N-hydroxysuccinimide cross linkers. The successful chemical modification of P3HB-MP surface was evidenced by XPS analysis and FTIR spectroscopy, confirming an increase in the number of carboxyl groups and covalent bonding of collagen on the surface of functionalized P3HB microparticles (Col-P3HB-MPs). The amount of collagen present on Col-P3HB-MPs microparticles was quantified by the Lowry method. The average diameter and zeta-potential of microparticles were found to be dependent upon the method of preparation. The absence of cytotoxicity of modified Col-P3HB-MPs to fibroblast NIH 3T3 cells in vitro was corroborated by results of MTT assay. Staining with the fluorescent dye showed enhanced adhesion of fibroblasts onto Col-P3HB-MPs compared to the unmodified P3HB-MPs.
