Bulk composites Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7+NiTiO3 and Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7+MgTiO3 with insulator volume content 7.5% and 15% modelling a network of Superconductor-Insulator-Superconductor (S-I-S) junctions have been prepared. The ?(T) dependences of composites HTSC+MgTiO3 are described well by the mechanism of Thermally Activated Phase Slippage (TAPS). The anomalous behavior of resistivity ?(T) of HTSC+NiTiO3 composites manifesting as a kink on ?(T) curves at some
temperature
Tm have been observed. In the
temperature
range Tm < T < TC the dissipation is Ohmic while below Tm the CVCs are strongly non-linear. This peculiarity is interpreted as arisen owing to Abrikosov vortices flow.

Аннотация:
A model of a superconducting fault current limiter on a polycrystalline high-
temperature
superconductor basis is checked in the dc short circuit regime. Protection of load takes place under the conditions described in this paper. The use of ceramic materials with superconducting-normal metal-superconducting Josephson junction network having an S-type current-voltage characteristic (CVC) is shown to be effective for fault current limiter devices.

A single-frequency dielectric model at 1.4 GHz for frozen mineral soils was developed, with the
temperature
and clay content varying from -1 to -30°C and 9.1 to 41.3%, respectively. The model is based on dielectric measurements of three typical soils (sandy loam, silt loam, and silty clay) collected in the Yamal peninsular. The refractive mixing model was applied to fit the data aggregates consisting of measured complex refractive indexes (CRI) for the three soils as a function of soil moisture at a fixed
temperature
. As a result, there were derived the parameters of the refractive mixing dielectric model as a function of
temperature
and texture. These parameters involve the maximum allowed gravimetric fraction of bound water and the CRIs of soil solids, bound soil water, and free soil water components, the latter being represented by capillary ice. The error of the dielectric model was evaluated by correlating the predicted complex relative permittivity (CRP) values of the soil samples with the measured ones. The coefficient of determination, R2, and the root mean square error, RMSE, were estimated to be R2 = 0.994, RMSE = 0.22 and R2 = 0.988, RMSE = 0.07 for the real and imaginary parts of the CRP, respectively. These values are on the order of the dielectric measurement error itself. The proposed dielectric model can be applied in active and passive remote sensing techniques used in the Arctic areas, mainly for the SMOS, SMAP and Aquarius missions.

A dielectric model was developed for thawed and frozen mineral soils, based on the refractive mixing dielectric formula and the dielectric measurement data for three soils collected in the Arctic tundra of the Yamal Peninsula. The refractive mixing dielectric model was used in conjunction with the Debye multi relaxation equations as a theoretical model to fit the measured complex relative permittivity spectra as a function of soil moisture and
temperature
. As a result, the dielectric spectroscopic parameters for the various components of water in the soil, such as the low- and high-frequency limits of the complex relative permittivity, the times of the corresponding relaxations, and the specific conductivity, were simultaneously determined for soils with different clay contents for all measured temperatures. As the theoretical
temperature
dependences of these parameters, the Clausius–Mossotti, Eyring, and linear equations for the conductivity were used. By using approximations of the measured data with these formulas, the parameters of the
temperature
-dependent model were derived, such as the coefficient of volume expansion, energy and entropy of activation, and coefficient of thermal conductivity. A set of the parameters discussed above in conjunction with the refractive mixing formula is a
temperature
- and mineralogically dependent multi-relaxation spectroscopic dielectric model, which enables estimation of the permittivity of moist soils as a function of dry soil density, moisture, frequency,
temperature
, and texture. The statistical error of the proposed dielectric model was estimated in terms of the normalized root-mean-square error (nRMSE), which was equal to 5% and 25% for the dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor, respectively.

A new concept for a device for protecting an alternating-current network is offered. It is based on a combination of a superconducting limiter of a short-circuit current and a circuit breaker. A high-

superconductor in the form of a pile of plane rings is used as the active element of the limiter. The test results of a model of such a limiter are obtained in the steady-state short-circuit regime. Solid solutions in the Cs-x(NH4)(1 - x)LiSO4 (0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.35) system are grown and investigated. The birefringence (n(a) - n(b)) and the heat capacity are measured in the
temperature
range 100-530 K. The (x-T) phase diagram is constructed. It is demonstrated that the substitution of cesium for ammonium in the NH4LiSO4 crystal affects the transition temperatures in such a way that the region of the ferroelectric phase increases and the ferroelastic phase disappears at x 0.22. The character of the high-
temperature
transition remains unchanged (2beta = 0.24 +/- 0.01 for all compositions), but the birefringence anomaly and enthalpy decrease. As the concentration x increases, the low-
temperature
transition becomes more similar to a first-order transition: the birefringence jump deltan and the
temperature

measurements of current-voltage characteristics (CVC) of the (Y, Lu)1Ba2Cu3O7-delta high-
temperature
superconductor have been performed. Analysis of the data shows that CVC of HTSC is mainly formed by two mechanisms: the creep of the Abrikosov vortices inside the crystallites and the Andreev reflection of the carriers within the metal character boundary between the crystallites.

A single-frequency dielectric model for thawed and frozen Arctic organic-rich (80%-90% organic matter) soil was developed. The model is based on soil dielectric data that were measured over the ranges of volumetric moisture from 0.007 to 0.573 cm3/cm3, dry soil density from 0.564 to 0.666 g/cm3, and
temperature
from 25°C to -30°C (cooling run), at the frequency of 1.4 GHz. The refractive mixing model was applied to fit the measurements of the soil's complex refractive index (CRI) as a function of soil moisture, with the values of
temperature
being fixed. Using the results of this fitting, the parameters of the refractive mixing model were derived as a function of
temperature
. These parameters involve the CRIs of soil solids as well as bound, transient, and free soil water components. The error of the dielectric model was evaluated by correlating the predicted complex relative permittivity (CRP) values of the soil samples with the measured ones. The coefficient of determination (R2) and the root-mean-square error (RMSE) were estimated to be R2 = 0.999, RMSE = 0.27 and R2 = 0.993, RMSE = 0.18 for the real and imaginary parts of the CRP, respectively. These values are in the order of the dielectric measurement error itself. The proposed dielectric model can be applied in active and passive remote-sensing techniques used in the areas with organicrich soil covers, mainly for the SMOS, SMAP, and Aquarius missions.

The dielectric model for an arctic organic-rich soil collected on the Yamal peninsula (50% of organic matter) both thawed and frozen has been developed. The model is based on the soil dielectric measurements carried out in the ranges of gravimetric moisture 0.03 to 0.55 g/g, dry soil density 0.72 to 0.87 g/cm3, and
temperature
25 to −30°C (cooling run), in the frequency range 0.05–15 GHz. To fit the results of measurements of the soil complex dielectric constant as a function of soil moisture and wave frequency, the refractive mixing dielectric model in conjunction with the Debye multi-relaxation equations were applied. As a result, the spectroscopic parameters of dielectric relaxations and electrical specific conductivities for the bound, transient bound, and unbound soil water components were derived, being further complimented with the thermodynamics parameters. Having these parameters, the complex dielectric constant of soil can be predicted as a function of 1) density of dry soil, 2) gravimetric moisture, 3) wave frequency, and 4) temperature1.

A dielectric model for thawed and frozen Arctic organic-rich soil (50% organic matter) has been developed. The model is based on soil dielectric measurements that were collected over ranges of gravimetric moisture from 0.03 to 0.55 g/g, dry soil density from 0.72 to 0.87 g/cm3, and
temperature
from 25 to −30 °C (cooling run) in the frequency range of 0.05–15 GHz. The refractive mixing dielectric model was applied with the Debye multi-relaxation equations to fit the measurements of the soil’s complex dielectric constant as a function of soil moisture and wave frequency. The spectroscopic parameters of the dielectric relaxations for the bound, transient bound, and unbound soil water components were derived and were complimented by the thermodynamic parameters to obtain a complete set of parameters for the proposed
temperature
-dependent multi-relaxation spectroscopic dielectric model for moist soils. To calculate the complex dielectric constant of the soil, the following input variables must be assigned: (1) density of dry soil, (2) gravimetric moisture, (3) wave frequency, and (4)
temperature
. The error of the dielectric model was evaluated and yielded RMSEε′ values of 0.348 and 0.188 for the soil dielectric constant and the loss factor, respectively. These values are on the order of the dielectric measurement error itself. The proposed dielectric model can be applied in active and passive microwave remote sensing techniques to develop algorithms for retrieving the soil moisture and the freeze/thaw state of organic-rich topsoil in the Arctic regions.

Аннотация:
The process of hydrogen chemical adsorption on platinum cluster/single wall carbon nanotube (CNT) join surfaces is modelled at various temperatures and pressures. For that, the adsorption energy of hydrogen atoms on surfaces of both platinum (111) plate and CNT (5,5) or (8,8) types is calculated by density functional theory with the PBE approximation. At various temperatures the hydrogen atom hopping rate on both platinum and CNT surfaces is calculated by the transition state theory. Furthermore the hydrogen hopping rate from the platinum surface to the attached nanotube is obtained by calculation of the total energy profile. It is proved that hydrogen atoms can migrate easily at the platinum surface at all temperatures, but at the CNT surface they can migrate beginning at 400-500 K. By calculation of chemical potentials of hydrogen in gas or on CNT or platinum cluster surfaces the equilibrium density of adsorbed hydrogen was calculated at different temperatures and pressures. It is established that for all temperatures in the range 300-900 K and for all pressures less than 500 bar, the hydrogen is dissociated and chemically adsorbed on the platinum surface very effectively, but surface site occupation by hydrogen on attached CNT surface is rather small. But if CNT vacancies are present in the tube structure and the
temperature

An extended critical state model has been developed. The model has considered the equilibrium magnetization of a surface layer and the magnetization of the central region of a superconducting sample. The magnetic flux distributions in the sample have been calculated. An analytical dependence of the critical current density on the magnetic field with different behaviors in strong and weak fields has been proposed. A relation of the asymmetry of the magnetization loops and the critical current density to the sample size has been established. The model is applicable to the parameterization of magnetization loops of single-crystal and polycrystalline superconductors.

Аннотация:
This update includes the literature related to the inert anodes which were published in the past decade. The metallic anodes are widely regarded as promising candidates to replace the carbon anodes due to its attractive properties like good electrical conductivity, easy to manufacture and high resistance to high thermal shocks. The metals have been tested in pure state and alloy (binary, ternary) form. The oxide scale formed on the anode surface acts as a barrier between the electrolyte and the anode, which protects the anode from being dissolved. The layer of molten fluorides is formed between the scale and the metal anode after a certain time of polarization, and the oxide scale acts as a bipolar electrode. Metal like Cu is reduced at the internal side of the scale. This paper elaborates the effects of various parameters on the performance of the anode. Cu-based alloys (Cu – Ni – Fe and Cu – Al) have shown promising results and could perform well in low-
temperature
electrolytes. It has been well established that the Cu content in Cu – Ni – Fe and Cu – Al alloys plays a major role in the metal dissolution as the CuO/Cu2O scales formed on the outer layer act as a sacrificial one. The corrosion rate of an anode can be reduced by decreasing the operating
temperature
, which is possible by using the KF – AlF3 melts. The use of suspensions can increase the purity of the produced metal by stop-ping the anode products to come in contact with cathode metal. Many industries including RUSAL and ELYSIS are still conducting a considerable amount of research to develop an inert anode and are expecting to have a carbon-free cell in the nearest future.

The
temperature
dependences of the critical current of Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 polycrystalline high-
temperature
superconductors subjected to annealing for different times and those of Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 + BaPbO3 composites were measured. The results obtained were analyzed in terms of the Gunsenheimer-Schussler-Kummler theory considering the Andreev reflection of carriers in a "superconductor-normal metal-superconductor" (S-N-S) junction. Good agreement between the experimental and theoretical
temperature
dependences of the critical current over a wide
temperature
range for polycrystals with both natural and artificially created boundaries (composites) made it possible to estimate the effective length of grain boundaries in the high-
temperature
superconductors. It was revealed that the critical current density measured at 4.2 K is an exponential function of the length of grain boundaries in samples of both types.

The
temperature
dependencies of position, width, and integral amplitude the E(TO) line near 307 cm−1 in Raman spectra in barium titanate powders with different non-hydrostatic pressure and
temperature
treatment were studied. It was found that parameters of the E(TO) line near 307 cm−1 are different in the crystal, the untreated powder, the powder treated by the non-hydrostatic pressure, and the powder annealed after the pressure treatment. The line width (FWHM) increase with
temperature
according to Klemens model. It indicates that the origin of the line broadening is the anharmonicity of the E(TO) phonons. The pressure treatment changes the anharmonicity of the phonon potential. It was found that the
temperature
dependence of the integral intensity of the E(TO) line is similar to that of the second optical harmonic signal and reflects the presence of the local polar regions. Thus, the E(TO) line in the Raman spectrum allows one to characterize the average polarity of local regions and their anharmonicity depending on non-hydrostatic pressures and thermal treatment.
