Аннотация: The magnetic properties and Mossbauer spectra of the Y1.8Bi1.2Fe3.5Ga1.5O12 compound were investigated. A linear temperature dependence of the saturation magnetization, hysteresis, and stability of the coercive field in the magnetically ordered state were found. Using the Mossbauer measurements, the distribution of iron ions over octahedral and tetrahedral sites and the concentration of paramagnetic iron ions were determined. Two critical temperatures – the sublattice magnetization compensation temperature and the ferrimagnet–paramagnet transition temperature – were established. The disappear of the phonon mode in the vicinity of the magnetic transition was observed. The experimental data have been interpreted in terms of the spin–lattice interaction model.

Аннотация: The ferroelectric properties of bismuth pyrostannate Bi2(Sn0.85Cr0.15)2O7 in the high-temperature region are established. The linear thermal expansion coefficient, electrical resistance, impedance, I−V characteristics, capacitance, loss-angle tangent, charge, and thermopower of the investigated material are measured in the temperature range of 300−700 K at frequencies of 102−106 Hz. Anomalies of the thermal expansion coefficient and hodograph spectrum variation in the region of polymorphic phase transitions are observed. The high resistance and change of the hopping conductivity for the tunnel-emission are found. The hysteresis in the electric field dependence of polarization is established. The change in the thermopower sign with temperature is revealed. The obtained experimental data are explained in the framework of the model of migration polarization by charged chromium ions.

Аннотация: Infrared absorption spectra of the bismuth pyrostannate Bi2(Sn0.95Cr0.05)2O7 were investigated in the frequency range 350-1100 cm-1 at temperatures of 110-525 K. Four frequency regions with split absorption lines are distinguished. Softening of frequencies at the structural transitions was observed. The maxima of permittivity measured in the frequency range 1-200 kHz at temperatures 100-400 K were determined. It was found that the magnetic susceptibility changes its sign in the low-temperature region. The correlation between anomalies in the magnetic susceptibility, permittivity, and absorption line intensity was established. Softening of frequencies is explained by the variation in the coefficient of thermal expansion of the lattice. The temperature behavior of permittivity is described using the Debye model. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

Аннотация: A novel La2Mg1.14Zr0.86O6:Bi3+ double perovskite phosphor with excitation-induced blue/green photoluminescence tuning is reported. By designing Bi3+ → Eu3+ energy transfer, single-composition white light with wide-scale adjustable corrected color temperatures (CCTs) is successfully achieved. This work initiates a new insight to explore phosphors with excitation-induced photoluminescence tuning and wide CCT control for future intelligent LED lighting.

Аннотация: Low-dimensional organic–inorganic metal halides have recently attracted extensive attention because of their various structures and distinguished photoelectric properties. Herein, we report a series of new zero-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides: (TMEDA)3Bi2Cl12·H2O, (TMEDA)3Bi2Br12·H2O, (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O, and (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O [TMEDA = N,N,N′·trimethylethylenediamine]. (TMEDA)3M2X12·H2O (M = Bi or Sb, X = Cl or Br) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n, and (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma. (TMEDA)3M2X12 possesses a zero-dimensional structure with the metal halide ions of [MBr6]3− isolated by the organic TMEDA2+ cations. Interestingly, the (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O structure consists of a combination of corner-connected octahedra [Sb4Cl18]6− and edge-shared [Sb2Cl10]4−, which is quite rare. The light emission of all these compounds was measured, and (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O exhibits the most intense luminescence. Upon 400 nm ultraviolet light excitation, (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O exhibited strong broadband yellow emission centered at 625 nm with a full-width at half-maximum of ∼150 nm originating from self-trapped excitons. This work suggests the possibility of new types of hybrid halides by introducing different metal centers and probing the structural evolution and photoluminescent properties, serving as a reference for the relationship between structure and luminescent performance and demonstrating their potential use as phosphors in light-emitting diodes.

Аннотация: The Nd1Bi2Fe5O12/Nd2Bi1Fe4Ga1O12 polycrystalline films on the glass substrate and the Nd0.5Bi2.5Fe5O12 epitaxial films on the single-crystal gadolinium gallium garnet substrate have been investigated by impedance and dielectric spectroscopy. The inductive contribution to the impedance and two relaxation channels related to ferroelectric domains and migration polarization have been established. The magnetocapacitance and magnetoimpedance have been determined. The conductive and polarization currents and the phase difference between them for the films of two types have been determined. The critical temperatures of the polarization disappearance and hysteresis I–V have been found. A model of the polarization caused by the piezoelectric effect and flexoelectric interaction has been proposed. I–V hysteresis is explained by the presence of ferroelectric domains near the interface and is associated with the hysteresis of the electric polarization.

Аннотация: Electro- and magnetostriction mechanisms and temperature behavior of the length of bismuth-substituted neodymium iron garnet films on glass and gallium gadolinium garnet have been investigated. Electric- and magnetic-field and temperature dependences of the electro- and magnetostriction constants have been determined. It has been established that the magnetostriction constant changes its sign upon temperature variation. The experimental data are explained using a model of dipole glass with the magnetoelectric and magnetoelastic interaction.

Аннотация: In order to clarify the mechanisms in charge of broadening of resistive transition R(T) in magnetic fields of bismuth-based polycrystalline high-T (C) superconductor (HTSC), a comparative study of Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3O (x) (BSCCO) and YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) have been performed. Magnetoresistive effects and irreversibility line obtained from magnetic measurements have been studied. It was established that (1) for YBCO, the smooth part of R(T) dependence unambiguously corresponds to dissipation in the intergrain boundaries for arbitrary magnetic fields; (2) for polycrystalline BSCCO, the smooth part of R(T) dependences correspond to dissipation within intergrain boundary subsystem in the field range H 10(2) Oe only, while standard measurements of R(T) dependences in magnetic field range H 10(2) Oe reflect the dissipation processes occurring both in intergrain boundary and HTSC grain subsystems; (3) for the high-field range, the contribution from intergrain boundaries of BSCCO can be distinguished from magnetoresistance R(H) dependences obtained at high enough current density on textured samples. It is proposed that various magneto-resistive properties of these classical HTSC systems are due comparatively weak pinning in BSCCO.

Аннотация: The correlation of the electrical, magnetic, and structural properties of Bi2(Sn1 − xCrx)2O7 solid solutions has been investigated for two compositions with x = 0.05 and 0.1. The temperatures of structural phase transitions and anomalies of the electrical resistance in the vicinity of these transitions at temperatures in the range 300 K ˂ T ˂ 1000 K have been determined using differential scanning calorimetry. It has been found that the thermoelectric power changes sign upon the polymorphic transition. The paramagnetic Curie temperature and the chromium-ion spin have been found from the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility in the range 4 K ˂ T ˂ 1000 K and from the field dependence of the magnetic moment in magnetic fields of up to 6 T.

Аннотация: The high-temperature crystallizing phases of fluxes (molten solutions) based on Bi2O3:MoO3 = 1:3 and diluted by Na2CO3 and B2O3 (under varying of Na2CO3:B2O3), and by CuO and Mn2O3 (0 ≤ Mn2O3:CuO ≤ 5) are studied. The conditions of the stable crystallization of Mn2+1−xCuxMoO4, Mn23+O3, Mn2+Mn23+O4, Mn2+1−xCuxMn3+BO4 and Mn2+2−xCuxMn3+BO5 have been found. The influence of MoO3 and Na2CO3 to the crystallization processes of Mn2+- and Mn3+-containing Mn2+1−xCuxMoO4 and Mn2+Mn23+O4 and Mn23+O3 are clarified. The occurrence of the chemical bonds of these types at the crystallization of Mn-heterovalent Mn2+1−xCuxMn3+BO4 and Mn2+2−xCuxMn3+BO5 oxyborates is studied. Single crystal growth techniques of these oxyborates are suggested. The results of the structural and magnetic characterization of some discussed compounds are presented.

Аннотация: Structural features of new mixed bismuth-containing samarium iron–aluminium borate single crystals Sm1−xBixFe3−yAly(BO3)4 (x = 0.05–0.07, y = 0–0.28) were studied using X-ray diffraction analysis based on aluminium content and temperature in the range 25–500 K. The crystals were grown using the solution-in-melt technique with Bi2Mo3O12 in a flux. The composition of the single crystals was analyzed using energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence and energy-dispersive X-ray elemental analysis. Temperature dependencies of Sm1−xBixFe3−yAly(BO3)4 unit-cell parameters were studied. Negative thermal expansion was identified below 100 K and represented by characteristic surfaces of the thermal expansion tensor. (Sm,Bi)–O, (Sm,Bi)–(Fe,Al), (Fe,Al)–(Fe,Al), and (Fe,Al)–O interatomic distances decreased with the addition of aluminium atoms. An increase in the (Fe,Al)–(Fe,Al) intrachain bond length at low temperatures in the magnetically ordered state weakened this bond, whereas a decrease in the (Fe,Al)–(Fe,Al) interchain distance strengthened super-exchange paths between different chains. It was found that the addition of aluminium atoms influenced interatomic distances in Sm1−xBixFe3−yAly(BO3)4 much more than lowering the temperature from 293 K to 25 K. The effect of aluminium doping on magnetoelectric properties and structural symmetry of rare-earth iron borates is also discussed.

Аннотация: The crystal structure of samarium iron borate was analyzed with regard to growth conditions and temperature. The inclusion of about 7% Bi atoms in the crystals grown using the Bi2Mo3O12-based flux was discovered and there were no impurities in the crystals grown using the Li2WO4-based flux. No pronounced structural features associated with Bi inclusion were observed. The different absolute configurations of the samples grown using both fluxes were demonstrated. Below 80 K, a negative thermal expansion of the c unit-cell parameter was found. The structure of (Sm0.93Bi0.07)Fe3(BO3)4 belongs to the trigonal space group R32 in the temperature range 90–400 K. A decrease in the (Sm,Bi)—O, Sm—B, Sm—Fe, Fe—O, Fe—B and Fe—Fe distances is observed with a lowering of the temperature, B1—O does not change, B2—O increases slightly and the B2O3 triangles deviate from the ab plane. The strongest decrease in the equivalent isotropic atomic displacement parameters (Ueq) with decreasing temperature is observed for atoms Sm and O2, and the weakest is observed for B1. The O2 atoms have the highest Ueq values, the most elongated atomic displacement ellipsoids of all the atoms and the smallest number of allowed vibrational modes of all the O atoms. The largest number of allowed vibrational modes and the strongest interactions with neighbouring atoms is seen for the B atoms, and the opposite is seen for the Sm atoms. The quadrupole splitting Δ(T) of the paramagnetic Mössbauer spectra increases linearly with cooling. The Néel temperature [TN = 31.93 (5) K] was determined from the temperature dependence of the hyperfine magnetic field Bhf(T), which has a non-Brillouin character. The easy-plane long-range magnetic ordering below TN was confirmed.

Аннотация: The Bi2Sn2O7 compound existing simultaneously in two polymorphic modifications, namely, orthorhombic and cubic, has been synthesized for the first time by solid-phase synthesis. The dielectric and electrical properties of the compound have been studied in the temperature range 100 K ˂ T ˂ 500 K. Anomalies in the temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity and the permittivity (imaginary and real parts) have been found at both low and high temperatures. These features are explained in terms of the model of martensitic phase transitions.

Аннотация: The electrical characteristics including the electrical resistance, impedance, I–V characteristics, capacitance, dissipation factor, and thermoelectric power of the Bi2Sn2-хFeхO7 (х = 0.1, 0.2) stannates have been investigated in the temperature range of 100–600 K at frequencies of 102–106 Hz. The paramagnetic contribution of electrons to the dynamic magnetic susceptibility has been established. The conductivity mechanism of the compounds has been found from the I–V characteristics and the change in the carrier sign has been determined from the thermoelectric power. The hysteresis of the I–V curves, charge transfer currents and polarization current have been observed in the Bi2Sn1·8Fe0·2O7 compound. A nonlinear field dependence of the polarization in the orthorhombic phase has been found. The correlation between the obtained characteristics and the phase structure transitions has been established. Two relaxation channels and activation energy have been found using the Debye model. The hysteretic I–V characteristics have been explained using a model of the electronic structure and the dipole and migration polarization.

Аннотация: To establish the existence of dipole glass in the chromium-substituted bismuth pyrostannate solid solutions, the frequency and temperature dependences of the permittivity have been measured in the temperature range of 300–750 K. The field and dynamic dependences of polarization in the temperature range of 80–550 K have been determined. Using the Raman scattering spectra, the absence of inversion center has been established. The maximum of electrical resistance has been found in the vicinity of the dipole moment freezing point. The carrier type has been determined from the thermopower data. The polarization relaxation is shown to be nonexponential. The experimental data are explained within the model of dipole glass in the α- phase and the model of charged crystalline domain walls with the electron-polarization relaxation mechanism above the α–β structural transition.

Аннотация: The mechanism of relaxation of the electric polarization in thin films of rare-earth-doped bismuth iron garnet on glass and gallium gadolinium garnet substrates is determined in magnetic fields of 0 and 12 kOe in the temperature range of 80–380 K. The change in the sign of the residual electric polarization after switching off the electric field and the magnetic-field-induced shift of the hysteresis loop in the applied magnetic field are found. Linear and quadratic magnetoelectric effects with the tensor components depending on the substrate type are observed. The linear magnetoelectric effect is related to the spin–orbit coupling of electrons at the film–substrate interface, whereas the quadratic one is determined by the exchange–striction mechanism.

Аннотация: Phase transition (PT) was found in Cs3Bi2I9 single crystal at T0=223 K. Optical birefringence, dielectric and elastic constants and differential scanning calorimetry have been studied. It was found that birefringence ?nc and twinning picture appeared on (001) - and (100) - plates below T0, as well as softening of elastic stiffness C44 above T0. Аннотация: The influence of thermomagnetic prehistory on the behavior of a resistive transition R(T) in external magnetic fields of polycrystalline YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7) and Bi(1.8)Pb(0.3)Sr(1.9)Ca(2)Cu(3)O (x) high-temperature supercon-ductors and the Bi(1.8)Pb(0.3)Sr(1.9)Ca(2)Cu(3)O (x) + Ag texture has been investigated. It has been found that, for YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7), the thermomagnetic prehistory exerts a substantial influence on the dissipation in the subsystem of grain boundaries in magnetic fields up to similar to 10(3) Oe, and this effect becomes insignificant in fields higher than similar to 10(4) Oe. This behavior has been explained by the influence of magnetic moments of high-temperature superconductor grains on the effective magnetic field in the intergranular medium. For bismuth high-temperature superconductors, no influence of thermomagnetic prehistory on the resistive transition has been observed; however, this effect manifests itself in current-voltage characteristics at high transport current densities. There is also a radical difference in the behavior of isotherms of the magnetoresistance R(H) for the yttrium and bismuth systems. For YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7), there is a clear separation between the dissipation regimes in the intergranular medium and in grains, which manifests itself even at low transport current densities as a change of sign in the curvature of the dependence R(H). For a texture based on the bismuth high-temperature superconductor, this feature has been observed only at high current densities (comparable to the critical current density at H = 0). This difference in the behavior of magnetoresistive properties of the classical high-temperature superconductor systems under investigation has been explained by relatively low irreversibility fields of the bismuth high-temperature superconductors. In these materials, simultaneous processes of dissipation can occur in an external magnetic field both in the subsystem of grain boundaries between crystallites and in the crystallites themselves.

Аннотация: Orthorhombic bismuth triborate (delta-BiB3O6) Single crystals were grown via the top-seeded method at atmospheric pressure. delta-BiB3O6 is shown to be a stable polymorph at temperatures close to the melting point while alpha-BiB3O6 is a metastable one. Optical, acoustic and electromechanical properties of delta-BiB3O6 are measured. Possibility of doping delta-BiB3O6 with large amounts of rare earths is demonstrated.
