Аннотация: In recent years interest has been shown in crystals with the scheelite structure (point symmetry group 4/m) as promising materials for acoustooptic devices. However, nearly all the work done so far has been on the NaBi(MoO4)2 and PbMoO4 crystals. In this paper the authors give the results of a study of the elastic and acoustooptic properties of NaBi(WO4)2 and LiBi(MoO4)2 crystals from a series of isomorphic compounds with the scheelite structure carried out in order to determine the extent of the changes in the elastic and acoustooptic properties of this series of crystals when the structural elements are changed.

Аннотация: The temperature dependence of resistivity and the bulk modulus are calculated on the Kondo lattice, with ring exchange between localized spins, using the spin-polaron and adiabatic approximation. Peak and zero values of the bulk modulus as functions of temperature and concentration are determined below the temperature of the transition to the paramagnetic state. The effects of the nearest order between transverse spin components and a value of the ring exchange between localized spins on magnetoresistivity are estimated.

Аннотация: The bulk nanostructured Co58Ni10Fe5B16Si11 alloys were prepared by dynamic compaction and plasma spray deposition techniques. The investigation of structure and magnetic properties of bulk samples was carried out by X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy and correlation magnetometry. The bulk samples produced by both methods can be characterized as a heterophase system. The highest value of permeability 20 · 103 for plasma spraying coating is achieved when volume fraction of nanocrystalline phase with Curie temperature Tc ∼ 640 K is increased to 30%. The magnetic characteristics, such as the saturation magnetization, the Bloch constant, the local magnetic anisotropy field, the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth, and the coercivity remain unchanged after both compaction techniques. It was shown that the plasma spraying method allows to obtain bulk magnetically soft materials with magnetic parameters that are not inferior to the characteristics of a thermally treated rapidly quenched ribbon with the same composition.

Аннотация: Bulk nanostructured Co–P/Cu and Al2O3/Co–P composites are fabricated via dynamic compaction. The initial core–shell particles are synthesized by means of chemical deposition. Structural and magnetic characteristics of the composites are investigated. Аннотация: In order to clarify the mechanisms in charge of broadening of resistive transition R(T) in magnetic fields of bismuth-based polycrystalline high-T (C) superconductor (HTSC), a comparative study of Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3O (x) (BSCCO) and YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) have been performed. Magnetoresistive effects and irreversibility line obtained from magnetic measurements have been studied. It was established that (1) for YBCO, the smooth part of R(T) dependence unambiguously corresponds to dissipation in the intergrain boundaries for arbitrary magnetic fields; (2) for polycrystalline BSCCO, the smooth part of R(T) dependences correspond to dissipation within intergrain boundary subsystem in the field range H <10(2) Oe only, while standard measurements of R(T) dependences in magnetic field range H > 10(2) Oe reflect the dissipation processes occurring both in intergrain boundary and HTSC grain subsystems; (3) for the high-field range, the contribution from intergrain boundaries of BSCCO can be distinguished from magnetoresistance R(H) dependences obtained at high enough current density on textured samples. It is proposed that various magneto-resistive properties of these classical HTSC systems are due comparatively weak pinning in BSCCO.

Аннотация: SOEC temperature dependences of different quality quartz crystals were studied. The simplified phenomenological theory was applied to calculate second order elastic constant temperature dependences. The bulk acoustic waves propagation under the bias of temperature field or of the uniaxial mechanical pressure was considered. It was found that crystal quality changes have caused certain variations of some third order elastic constant values and some temperature coefficients.

Аннотация: Y0.75Nd0.25Ba2Cu3O7−d superconductor has the peak effect with pronounced fishtail feature on magnetization hysteresis. The magnetic field of the peak effect maximum is in ~4 times higher than one of NdBa2Cu3O7−d. The magnetization hysteresis is tilted anticlockwise due to paramagnetic Nd3+ ions occurred on the surface of grains and in the vortex cores.

Аннотация: In the present work, the polymerization of endohedral metallofullerenes (EMFs) with gadolinium (Gd@C82) and yttrium atoms (Y@C82) at high pressures achieved using the shear diamond anvil cell technique is studied using both theoretical and experimental approaches. It is found that in contrast to pure fullerenes, EMF polymerization starts at lower pressures with similar behavior for both metals inside the fullerene cage. EMF polymerization occurs smoothly and finally leads to a significant increase in the number of interfullerene bonds at pressures higher than ∼20 GPa. Finally, a high bulk modulus of both EMF-polymerized materials is obtained using Raman spectra.

Аннотация: The stability of magnesium hydride (MgH (x) ) nanoparticles (x = 0.5,...,2) is investigated using ab initio calculations. It is shown that for a nanoparticle diameter of D similar to 5 nm, the internal pressure becomes lower than 3 kbar; for this reason, the structure of hydride nanoparticles coincides with the structure of this hydride in crystalline form. It is found that the phase of partly saturated MgH (x) hydrides (x < 2) must decompose into the phase of pure hcp magnesium and the alpha phase of MgH(2). The frequencies of jumps of hydrogen atoms within the hcp phase of magnesium and in the alpha phase of MgH(2) are calculated; it is shown that slow diffusion of hydrogen in magnesium is due to the large height of potential barriers for motion of hydrogen within MgH(2). To attain high diffusion rates, the structures of Mg(53)Sc and Mg(53)Ti crystals and their hydrides are calculated. It is found that the frequency of jumps of H atoms in Mg(53)ScH(108) near the Sc atoms does not noticeably change as compared to the frequency of jumps in the alpha phase of MgH(2), while the frequency of jumps in Mg(53)TiH(108) near Ti atoms is higher by approximately a factor of 2.5 x 10(6). This means that diffusion in manganese hydride with small admixtures of titanium atoms must be considerably eased. Chemical dissociation of hydrogen molecules on the (0001) surface of hcp magnesium, on the given surface with adjoined individual Ti atoms, and on the surface of a one-layer titanium cluster on the given surface of magnesium is investigated. It is found that dissociation of hydrogen at solitary titanium atoms, as well as on the surface of a Ti cluster, is facilitated to a considerable extent as compared to pure magnesium. This should also sharply increase the hydrogen adsorption rate in magnesium nanoparticles.

Аннотация: Recent experimental studies have demonstrated that Fe3C is more stable than Fe7C3 under PT-conditions of the Earth's core. Theoretical calculations at 0 K, in turn, show the possible stability of Fe2C at the core pressures. Therefore, a theoretical modeling of iron carbides at <=500 GPa is carried out. Energetically stable phases and the pressures of magnetic transitions at 0 K are determined. The parameters of magnetic transitions for Fe7C3 and Fe3C are consistent with those determined in the previous papers. The phase transition from Pnnm to Pnma in Fe2C at 28 GPa is estimated. At > 100 GPa, Fe2C loses its magnetic moment. Assuming carbon to be the only light element in the system, the first-principles calculations yield 2.7-2.9 and 2.0-2.2 wt.% C at the boundary of the inner core at 5000 and 7000 K, respectively.

Аннотация: Flux-Pinning Docking Interfaces (FPDI) in satellite systems were developed using bulk superconductors and permanent magnets in previous works. However, such FPDIs have limited magnetic field strength, consist of heavy-weight material, and can only be used with a single purpose, i.e., as chasing or docking satellite. Replacing the magnetic material in the FPDI by a trapped field (TF)-magnet would enable the interface to operate for both purposes, i.e., generating a (stronger) magnetic field and trapping it. We show the requirements for such a system and discuss the possible gains when using a TF-FPDI in satellites. To reduce the system weight, the use of superconducting foams as superconducting material is discussed in detail. Furthermore, the use of superconducting foams, the size of which can be easily upscaled, may also comprise the function of the damping material, so even more weight could be saved for the payload.
