Аннотация: Discovery of new semiconductor candidates with suitable band gaps is a challenge for optoelectronic application. A facile solvothermal synthesis of a new ternary chalcogenide semiconductor CsCu5Se3 is reported. The telluride CsCu5Te3 is also predicted to be stable. CsCu5Se3 is isostructural with CsCu5S3 (space group Pmma). The band gap calculations of these chalcogenide semiconductors using hybrid density functional theory indicate nearly direct band gaps, and their values (about 1.4 eV) were confirmed by the optical absorption spectroscopy. These alkali metal copper chalcogenides are interesting examples of copper-rich structures which are commonly associated with favorable photovoltaic application.

Аннотация: The electrical properties of the Ag0.01Mn0.99S and Tm0.01Mn0.99S semiconductor compounds and the Hall effect in them have been investigated in the temperature range of 80-400 K in a magnetic field of 12 kOe. Using the I-V characteristics, the conductivity mechanism depending on the doping type and concentration has been established. Upon substitution of silver for manganese, the Mott-type conductivity has been found, while substitution of thulium causes the ohmic conductivity. The mobility and type of carriers have been determined from the Hall constant data.

Аннотация: The thiospinels of composition FeCr2S4 and Fe1+xCr2-2xSnxS4 with 0 x 0.1 have been examined by means of extended x- ray absorption fine structure, Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetoresistance techniques. The structural characterization shows that tin enters the spinel- related lattice as Sn4+ and occupies the octahedral B site. Appreciable magnetoresistance is observed in the temperature range 160 - 185 K which includes the magnetic ordering temperature. The effect of slight non- stoichiometry in FeCr2S4 and of tin doping is observed in the M r ossbauer spectra which show the Fe2+ ions to occupy the tetrahedral A sites. The M r ossbauer spectra recorded around the magnetic ordering temperature are sensitive to small ( 0.03 T) applied magnetic fields. The influence of tin on the low temperature magnetic behaviour is associated with the distribution of Cr3+, Sn4+ and Fe3+ ions around tetrahedral Fe2+ sites and vacancies in the anionic sublattice. An interpretation of the colossal magnetoresistance phenomena below TN is suggested.

Аннотация: Morphology, structure, magnetic properties and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) were studied for the FexSy and FexSey nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized with the polyol mediated and the thermal decomposition processes, correspondingly, at different regimes. For all NPs samples, but Fe3S4, MCD was measured for the first time. It has been shown that in the case of sulfides, the character of the MCD spectrum changes as the NPs phase composition transforms from Fe3S4 to FeS with the synthesis temperature increase. At the same time, the shape of the MCD spectrum is almost independent of the NPs phase in the case of iron selenides.

Аннотация: The region of the concentration magnetic phase transition in a CuxZn1-xCr2Se4 chalcogenide spinel in which the substituted ion concentration x smoothly varies from 0.1 to 0.2 with a step of 0.02 is thoroughly investigated. An anomalous behavior of the Curie temperature is observed. This anomaly is associated with the nucleation of ferromagnetically ordered microregions in the vicinity of Cr ions with an intermediate valence and subsequent long-range magnetic ordering at a critical Cu concentration in the range 0.12 x(c) 0.14. The possible coexistence of ferro- and antiferromagnetism in the same temperature range is revealed. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".
