Аннотация: The crystal structure of the first-synthesized compound EuErCuS3 was determined from X-ray powder diffraction data: orthorhombic crystal system, space group Pnma, structural type Eu2CuS3: a = 10.1005(2) Å, b = 3.91255(4)Å, c = 12.8480(2) Å; V = 507.737(14) Å3, Z = 4, and ρx = 6.266 g/cm3. The temperatures and enthalpies of reversible polymorphic transitions and incongruent melting of the compound were determined by DSC: Tα↔β = 1524 K, ΔНα↔β = 2.3 ± 0.2 kJ∙mol−1; Tβ↔γ = 1575 K, ΔНβ↔γ = 0.7 ± 0.1 kJ∙mol−1; Tγ↔δ = 1602 K; ΔНγ↔δ = 1.3 ± 0.1 kJ∙mol−1 and Tcr = 1735 ± 10 K, ΔНcr = −3.5 ± 0.3 kJ∙mol−1. IR spectra were recorded in the range from 50 to 400 cm−1. The compound was found to be IR-transparent in the range 4000–400 cm−1. The compound was characterized by Raman spectroscopy. The observed spectra featured both Raman lines and luminescence. Ab initio calculations of the EuErCuS3 crystal structure and phonon spectrum were performed, the frequencies and types of fundamental modes were determined, and the involvement of constituent ions in the IR and Raman modes was assessed from an analysis of the ab initio displacement vectors. The vibrational spectra were interpreted. EuErCuS3 manifests a ferrimagnetic transition at 4.8 K. Its microhardness is 2850 MPa. The obtained data can serve as the basis for predicting the properties of EuLnCuS3 compounds. Valence states for Eu (2+) and Er (3+) are proved both by the XRD and optical methods. Optical band gap was found to be 1.934 eV from diffuse reflectance spectrum.

Аннотация: We report on findings in the HoFe3(BO3)4 single crystal across structural phase transition by the dielectric and Raman spectroscopic measurements. In most of the compounds of RFe3(BO3)4 (R=La-Lu) family low temperature P3121 structure is introduced through structural phase transition (from space group R32). Temperature dependent dielectric measurements on the HoFe3(BO3)4 crystal depicts a step like feature at the structural phase transition at ?366 K. The Raman spectroscopy study also confirms the structural transition around this temperature. A clear signature of structural transition is reflected in the Raman spectra, mainly in the frequency range (200-400 cm-1). Appearance of new Raman modes below the transition temperature also indicates that the transition is from a high symmetry phase to a low symmetry phase.

Аннотация: The samples with the CaFe2O4-type crystal structure were obtained by the solid-state reaction method at 1000 °C in the air and the helium atmosphere for the first time. We investigated the modification of the structural and electronic properties of the obtained samples. Mössbauer, XAFS-, XPS-spectroscopies, and dc-, ac-conductivity measurements were carried out. Mössbauer and XAFS-spectroscopies showed that the local environment of Fe and Ca cations does not change in the case of the inert atmosphere synthesis. Nevertheless, a sharp six-order increase in the electrical resistance observed at room temperature for the sample obtained in the in the helium atmosphere. Moreover, calculated from dc-conductivity data activation energy rises from 0.327 for the air-synthesized sample to 0.585 eV for helium-obtained one. This behavior indicates significant modification of in-band-gap energy structure, which correlated with thermally activated charge carriers. Our ac-conductivity measurements in the frequency range of 1 kHz–2 MHz for the CaFe2O4 obtained in the air showed the presence of defect levels in the energy band structure. Oxygen pressure reduction during the synthesis results in levels vanishing. Therefore, we suppose the key role of oxygen atoms in the transport properties of the material, which is indirectly confirmed by XPS data. In prospect, CaFe2O4 can be used in promising gas analyzers.

Аннотация: The temperature boundaries of phase stability, stability of surface morphology and optical properties of synthesized iron silicides are determined. In the spectral range 1.5ч3.5 eV, the temperature dependences of the optical and magneto-optical properties of Fe, Fe3Si, β-FeSi2 and Fe5Si3 were measured. A significant effect of Fe and Si impurity atoms on the temperature dependences of the optical properties of iron silicides was observed.

Аннотация: It is well-known that the fraction of surface atoms and the number of defects in an antiferromagnetic particle increase with a decrease in the particle size to tens of nanometers, which qualitatively changes the properties of the particle. Specifically, in antiferromagnetic nanoparticles, spins in the ferromagnetically ordered planes can partially decompensate; as a result, an antiferromagnetic particle acquires a magnetic moment. As a rule, uncompensated chemical bonds of the surface atoms significantly weaken the exchange coupling with the antiferromagnetic particle core, which can lead to the formation of an additional magnetic subsystem paramagnetic at high temperatures and spin-glass-like in the low-temperature region. The existence of several magnetic subsystems makes it difficult to interpret the magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic nanoparticles. It is shown by the example of NiO nanoparticles with an average size of 8 nm that the correct determination of the contributions of the magnetic subsystems forming in antiferromagnetic nanoparticles requires magnetic measurements in much stronger external magnetic fields than those commonly used in standard experiments (up to 60–90 kOe). An analysis of the magnetization curves obtained in pulsed magnetic fields up to 250 kOe allows one to establish the contributions of the uncompensated particle magnetic moment μun, paramagnetic subsystem, and antiferromagnetic particle core. The μun value obtained for the investigated NiO particles is consistent with the Néel model, in which μun ∼ N1/2 (N is the number of magnetically active atoms in a particle), and thereby points out the existence of defects on the surface and in the bulk of a particle. It is demonstrated that the anomalous behavior of the high-field susceptibility dM/dH of antiferromagnetic NiO nanoparticles, which was observed by many authors, is caused by the existence of a paramagnetic subsystem, rather than by the superantiferromagnetism effect.

Аннотация: An experimental device for quasi-static measurements of piezoelectric moduli dijk, based on the possibilities of precision variations in mechanical stresses with the device DMA 242 C in the frequency range 0-100 Hz has been developed. A special sample holder and a charge amplifier are used in the measuring scheme. The measurements of piezoelectric moduli values of trigonal piezoelectric single crystalls La3Ga5SiO14 (P321) and YAl3(BO3)4 (R32), as well as hexagonal ZnO (P63mc) have been carried out.

Аннотация: A new approach to the quantum analysis of the spectral linewidths of optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) is proposed. The approach is based on introducing a Hermitian frequency deviation operator. The spectral linewidths in the triply resonant OPO above-threshold regime have been calculated. It has been found that the width of the generated spectral line depends on the loss at all interacting frequencies, the photon number of frequency under study, and the threshold photon number of pump. The formula obtained for the spectral width is general; in particular cases, it yields the well-known results. The developed simple approach can be applied to the quantum analysis of the spectra of various oscillatory systems, for example, the multifrequency parametric and non-linear optomechanical interactions and lasers.

Аннотация: In this work we present the way of ferromagnetic films study by means of magneto-ellipsometry. The method of interpretation of in situ magneto-optical ellipsometry spectra for real time growth control is described. The method has been successfully tested on Si/SiO2/Fe films within the model of a homogeneous semi-infinite medium. As a result, the dielectric tensor components for Fe layer were calculated using a developed approach.

Аннотация: The cross-breeding problem of the temperature dependence of the antiferromagnetic susceptibility of ferrihydrite nanoparticles is considered. Iron ions Fe3+ in ferrihydrite are ordered antiferromagnetically; however, the existence of defects on the surface and in the bulk of nanoparticles induces a noncompensated magnetic moment that leads to a typical superparamagnetic behavior of ensemble of the nanoparticles with a characteristic blocking temperature. In an unblocked state, magnetization curves of such objects are described as a superposition of the Langevin function and the linear-in-field contribution of the antiferromagnetic “core” of the nanoparticles. According to many studies of the magnetization curves performed on ferrihydrite (and related ferritin) nanoparticles in fields to 60 kOe, dependence χAF(T) decreases as temperature increases, which was related before to the superantiferromagnetism effect. As the magnetic field range increases to 250 kOe, the values of χAF obtained from an analysis of the magnetization curves become lower in magnitude; however, the character of the temperature evolution of χAF is changed: now, dependence χAF(T) is an increasing function. The latter is typical for a system of AF particles with random orientation of the crystallographic axes. To correctly determine the antiferromagnetic susceptibility of AF nanoparticles (at least, ferrihydrite) and to search for effects related to the superantiferromagnetism effect, it is necessary to use in experiments the range of magnetic field significantly higher than that the standard value 60 kOe used in most experiments. The study of the temperature evolution of the magnetization curves shows that the observed crossover is due to the existence of small magnetic moments in the samples.

Аннотация: В данной работе представлены результаты дистанционного зондирования температуры почвенного покрова на тестовом участке п-ва Ямал с использованием угловых зависимостей радиояркостной температуры, наблюдаемых космическим аппаратом SMOS на частоте 1,4 ГГц. Расположение пикселя зондирования космического аппарата SMOS было выбрано в районе между метеостанциями Марресале и Васькины дачи на п-ве Ямал. Исследование охватывает период с 22 октября 2012 г. по 10 мая 2014 г. для мерзлого состояния почвенного покрова. Метод восстановления температуры почвы основан на решении обратной задачи путем минимизации нормы невязки между наблюдаемыми и рассчитанными значениями радиояркостной температуры. Расчет радиояркостной температуры производился с использованием полуэмпирической модели, учитывающей затухание волны в снежном покрове, диэлектрическую проницаемость почвенного покрова, на основе модели комплексной диэлектрической проницаемости почвы с высоким содержанием органического вещества. Модель комплексной диэлектрической проницаемости почвенного покрова была создана в лабораторных условиях с использованием методов диэлектрической спектроскопии с использованием почвенных образцов отобранных на тестовом участке п-ва Ямал. Среднеквадратическое отклонение и коэффициент детерминации между восстановленными и измеренными значениями температуры почвы оказались равны 4,5°С и 0,59 соответственно. Полученный результат указывает на перспективность использования поляриметрических угловых наблюдений радиояркостной температуры на частоте 1,4 ГГц для измерения температуры арктической тундровой почвы.In this paper, the results of radiothermal remote sensing of soil temperature at a test site on the Yamal Peninsula using full-polarimetry multi-angular brightness temperature (BT) observations at the frequency of 1.4 GHz are presented. The BT data were obtained from the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite with the SMOS footprint near the Polar Weather Station Marresale and Vaskiny Dachi, the Russian Federation. The SMOS data covered the period from October 22, 2012 to May 10, 2014. The method to retrieve the soil temperature was based on solving an inverse problem by minimizing the norm of the residuals between the observed and predicted values of BT. The calculation of BT was performed using a semi-empirical model of radiothermal emission which incorporated an attenuation of microwaves in snow pack and a temperature-dependent multi-relaxation spectral dielectric model (TD MRSDM) for organic-rich tundra soil. The TD MRSDM was specifically designed on the base of laboratory measurements of complex permittivity of organic-rich soil samples collected at the test site on the Polar Weather Station Marresale. As a result, in case of frozen soil, the values of root-mean-square error (RMSE) and determination coefficient between the retrieved and measured soil temperatures were determined to be 4.5°C and 0.59, respectively. These results indicate the perspectives of using full-polarimetric multi-angular BT observations in the L-band for the purpose of measuring soil temperature in the Arctic region.

Аннотация: A single-frequency dielectric model at 1.4 GHz for frozen mineral soils was developed, with the temperature and gravimetric clay content varying from − 1 to − 30°C and from 9.1 to 41.3%, respectively. The model is based on the refractive mixing dielectric model and the dielectric data measured for the three typical soils collected in the Yamal tundra. The refractive mixing dielectric model was applied to fit the measured dielectric data as a function of soil moisture at a number of fixed temperatures. As a result, the parameters of the developed model were derived as a function of temperature and texture. This set of parameters consists of the maximum gravimetric fraction of unfrozen bound water and the values of the complex refractive indexes relating to soil solids, unfrozen bound water, and moistened ice. The developed model for frozen mineral soils in conjunction with the previously developed by us dielectric model for thawed mineral soils is considered as an integral dielectric model which is applicable for permittivity calculations of soil in both thawed and frozen states. The developed integral dielectric model for frozen and thawed mineral soils was validated using the dielectric data for five measured soils, and the statistical errors were estimated in terms of the root mean square error and the determination coefficient. In addition, the only known in the literature dielectric model for frozen soils suggested by Zhang was validated based on dielectric data for soils measured in this research. The comparative analysis proved substantially better accuracy of predictions in the case of the developed model as compared to those related to the Zhang model.

Аннотация: In this work we report on new magneto-ellipsometry set-up that allows to grow thin films and nanostructures by ultrahigh vacuum thermal evaporation as well as to conduct in situ measurements during the growth in order to analyze and control nanostructures properties. Ellipsometry and transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect measurements can be performed in situ inside this set-up. A uniform magnetic field of high intensity (more than 1 kOe) can be applied to samples inside the vacuum chamber. Also, we report on the developed method of data interpretation that is the base of the set-up software. Thus, we present a powerful tool for nanostructures synthesis and characterization.
