Аннотация: We have reported on the comparative characteristics of thermal oxidation of a carbon condensate prepared by high-frequency arc evaporation of graphite rods and a rod with a hollow center filled with nickel powder. In the latter case, along with different forms of nanodisperse carbon, nickel particles with nickel core-carbon shell structures are formed. It has been found that the processes of the thermal oxidation of carbon condensates with and without nickel differ significantly. Nickel particles with the carbon shell exhibit catalytic properties with respect to the oxidation of nanosized carbon structures. A noticeable difference between the temperatures of the end of the oxidation process for various carbon nanoparticles and nickel particles with the carbon shell has been established. The study is aimed at investigations of the effect of nickel nanoparticles on the dynamics of carbon condensate oxidation upon heating in the argon-oxygen flow.

Аннотация: The deposition of epoxide groups by plasma polymerization opens new horizons for robust and quick immobilization of biomolecules on any type of substrate. However, as of now there are just very few papers dealing with the deposition of epoxy layers by plasma polymerization, probably due to the high reactivity of this group leading to a low functionalization efficiency. In this work we carried out an extensive experimental and theoretical investigation of plasma synthesis of epoxide groups from a low pressure allyl glycydyl ether (AGE) plasma. The influence of composite parameter W/F and the working pressure on the density of epoxide groups and the layer stability was thoroughly addressed. It was found that by increasing the working pressure it is possible to sufficiently raise the concentration of epoxide groups. The composite parameter W/F was shown to be a crucial parameter in affecting the density of epoxides. An optimal value of W/F of around 2.3 eV per molecule leading to the highest density of epoxides produced in the process at 15 Pa was revealed through FT-IR and XPS findings. This value correlates well with the ab initio calculations suggesting that the lowest bond dissociation energy belongs to the C-O bond of the epoxide ring. Therefore, in order to increase the density of epoxides deposited by plasma polymerization, a precursor molecule containing at least two epoxide rings is strongly advised to be employed.

Аннотация: The aim of this paper was to study the effect of nanoscale inclusions of CuO as the second ingredient of composites on transport properties of superconducting YBa2Cu3O7 polycrystals. The samples of YBa2Cu3O7−δ with different content of CuO nanoparticles were synthesized. The analysis of the magnetic properties was carried out within the extended critical state model. It was found that the addition of 0.5 and 1% of CuO nanoparticles leads to an increase in the intragranular density of the critical current at T= 4.2 K. A further increase of x from 2 to 15% and more than 40% decreases the critical current density. The critical current density higher than in the reference sample was also found in the samples with x= 20% and x= 24%.

Аннотация: The method of producing TiN nanopowders in the plasma of low pressure arc discharge in nitrogen atmosphere is discussed. The influence of gas pressure on nanopowder dispersion is studied. It is shown that the particles have nanometer size and a narrow particle size distribution.

Аннотация: We present the results of a study of the structural state of ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene (morphology, X-ray-diffraction patterns, IR spectra) obtained in a single technological cycle combining the synthesis of nanoparticles and their deposition onto the surface of polymer microgranules. Technological conditions for the preservation of the initial state of ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene are found for its presence in the zone of thermal action of the plasma flow. Mechanisms of degradation of the polymer are discussed.

Аннотация: We report on thermoelectric properties of low Ge content n-type Si0.9Ge0.1–Mg2Si nanocomposite. Introduction of the Mg2Si phase into a SiGe matrix resulted in a dramatic drop of the lattice thermal conductivity beyond the previously reported lowest limit for SiGe alloys due to intensification of phonon scattering on SiGe–Mg2Si grain boundaries. For a sample doped with 1 at.% of Mg2Si, the peak value of thermoelectric figure of merit ZT reached ~ 0.8 at 800 °C. Sintered nanocomposites still exhibit high thermoelectric performance while being almost two times cheaper than Si0.8Ge0.2.

Аннотация: Знания, полученные в результате детального исследования физики газового разряда, легли в основу разработки и изготовления ракетных плазменных двигателей. Дальнейший прогресс в этом направлении разработчики связывают с увеличением плотности рабочего тела – плазмы. Однако увеличение плотности газа, в котором осуществляется разряд, влечет возникновение ионизационной и перегревной неустойчивостей, которые в конечном результате приводят к контракции разряда. Это является основным препятствием на пути получения устойчивых плазменных потоков при высоком давлении и разработки на их основе плазменных двигателей. В этой работе, на примере изготовленных лабораторных вариантов плазменных генераторов, решающих конкретные народно-хозяйственные задачи, показана возможность обойти эту проблему путем применения дугового разряда переменного тока высокой частоты. Приводятся экспериментальные результаты по их применению для устройств, работающих при атмосферном давлении с использованием в качестве плазмообразующего газа аргона, гелия и воздуха. Представлены результаты исследования конструкции плазмотрона, в котором совмещены магнитная и вихревая стабилизации. Эта конструкция рассматривается в качестве прототипа ракетного плазменного двигателя, работающего, например, на воздушно-метановой и кислородно-метановой смесях.The knowledge gained from a detailed study of the physics of gas discharge formed the basis for the development and manufacture of rocket plasma thrusters. The developers associated further progress in this direction, with an increase in the density of the reaction mass – plasma. However, an increase in the density of the gas in which the discharge takes place leads to the occurrence of ionization and overheating instabilities, which ultimately lead to contraction of discharge. This is the main obstacle to obtaining stable plasma flows at high pressure and the development of plasma engines on their basis. In this work, using the example of laboratory-produced plasma generator generators that solve specific national economic problems, we have shown the possibility of circumventing this problem by applying high-frequency arc discharge of alternating current. Experimental results are given for devices working at atmospheric pressure using as plasma-forming gas like argon, helium and air. There are presented results of investigation of plasmatron construction with combined magnetic and vortex stabilization. This design can be taken as a prototype of a rocket plasma engine using, for example, as propellant like air-methane and oxygen-methane mixtures.

Аннотация: YBa2Cu3O7 – δ–CuO composites with CuO particle contents of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 5.0, 10, 15, 20, and 24% were produced via arc plasma synthesis. Their magnetic properties were analyzed in the context of the expanded critical state model. In comparison with a reference sample, the critical current intragranular density increased in composites with CuO concentrations of 0.5, 1, 20, and 24%. The mechanisms of the influence of nanodopants on the change in the critical current density at various volume contents of nano-CuO were proposed as well.

Аннотация: The grafting of carboxyl groups enhances cell adhesion and can be used for immobilization of different biomolecules onto plasma-treated materials. The process, however, was not well optimized due to lack of clear understanding of the mechanisms of carboxylic group incorporation into plasma and their grafting to polymer surface. In this work the deposition of COOH plasma polymers from CO2/C2H4/Ar pulsed discharge has been studied depending on the gas mixture and duty cycle. We have demonstrated that the CO2/C2H4/Ar plasma with adjustable thickness of COOH functionalized layer and high stability of the grafted functions in water is a better solution for the COOH surface functionalization compared to the thoroughly analyzed CO2 plasma. The concentration of different carbon environments and the density of COOH groups have been measured by using chemical derivatization combined with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It has been found that the CO2/C2H4/Ar plasma mainly contains ester groups (COOC), the COOH/COOC ratio being between 0.03 and 0.08. The water stability of the COOH groups was significantly higher compared to ester environment, so immersing in water for 24 h allowed to increase the COOH/COOC ratio by a factor of 3. The mechanisms of the CO2 molecule attachment to hydrocarbon chains on the polymer surface and those located inside the plasma were modeled using ab initio calculations.

Аннотация: A design of a plasma generator, the parameters of the resulting plasma, and the possibilities of its use for the synthesis of nanosized powders and optical emission spectroscopy are described. The device operation is based on the arc discharge of alternating current (66 kHz) in an argon jet between water-cooled metal electrodes. The discharge is stabilized by a flow of isolating gas (helium, nitrogen, air) and an axial magnetic field. The gas flow is fed tangentially to the discharge axis. The plasma between the electrodes has the shape of a cylinder remote from the chamber walls. The temperature and electron concentration in the cross section of the plasma cylinder vary along the radius and take the maximum and minimum values.

Аннотация: In this paper, we study particles with metallic core (magnesium) - metal shell (nickel) structure, synthesized in metal-containing plasma of high frequency arc discharge. X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis and scanning electron microscopy show that the particles have a uniform nickel shell, which is also indirectly confirmed by comparing the results of hydrogenation of Mg and Mg@Ni particles. Measurement of volume magnetization indicates that shell thickness of most particles is not more than 22 nm.В данной работе исследованы частицы со структурой металлическое ядро (магний) - металлическая оболочка (никель), полученные в металлсодержащей высокочастотной плазме дугового разряда. Методами рентгенофазового анализа, рентгенофлуоресцентного анализа, сканирующей электронной микроскопии показано, что частицы имеют сплошную никелевую оболочку, что также косвенно подтверждается сравнением результатов гидрирования частиц Mg и Mg@Ni. С помощью измерений объемной намагниченности установлено, что наибольшая часть частиц имеет толщину оболочек не более 22 нм.

Аннотация: The development of an aptamer-based electrochemical sensor for lung cancer detection is presented in this work. A highly specific DNA-aptamer, LC-18, selected to postoperative lung cancer tissues was immobilized onto a gold microelectrode and electrochemical measurements were performed in a solution containing the redox marker ferrocyanide/ferricyanide. The aptamer protein targets were harvested from blood plasma of lung cancer patients by using streptavidin paramagnetic beads and square wave voltammetry of the samples was performed at various concentrations. In order to enhance the sensitivity of the aptasensor, silica-coated iron oxide magnetic beads grafted with hydrophobic C8 and C4 alkyl groups were used in a sandwich detection approach. Addition of hydrophobic beads increased the detection limit by 100 times. The detection limit of the LC-18 aptasensor was enhanced by the beads to 0.023 ng/mL. The formation of the aptamer -protein -bead sandwich on the electrode surface was visualized by electron microcopy. As a result, the electrochemical aptasensor was able to detect cancer-related targets in crude blood plasma of lung cancer patients.

Аннотация: The influence of a pressure of gas mixture (10 vol% O2 + 90% N2) on an average size of copper oxide nanoparticles, produced in the plasma of low pressure arc discharge, has been studied as a basic process variable. A correlation between the dependence of average particle size on gas mixture pressure and the dependence of discharge gap voltage on product of interelectrode distance by a gas mixture pressure, has been found. The estimation was carried out by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). A mathematical model of the cathode region, which shows the applicability of the similarity theory to the low pressure arc discharge, has been represented.
