Аннотация: В работе исследовано влияние формы плазмонной решѐтки на поглощающую способность активного слоя в органическом солнечном элементе на основе таммовского плазмон-поляритона. Расчѐты выполнены в рамках теории связанных мод и подтверждены методом трансфер-матрицы. Показано, что наибольшее поглощение в активном слое достигается в случае гексагональной решѐтки.The influence of the plasmonic array type on the absorptivity of the active layer in a Tamm plasmon polariton based organic solar cell has been investigated in the framework of the temporal coupled mode theory and confirmed by the transfer matrix method. It has been shown that optimal absorption in the active layer is achieved in the case of hexagonal array.

Аннотация: We consider Tamm plasmon polariton in a subwavelength grating patterned on top of a Bragg reflector. We demonstrate dynamic control of the phase and amplitude of a plane wave reflected from such metagrating due to resonant coupling with the Tamm plasmon polariton. The tunability of the phase and amplitude of the reflected wave arises from modulation of the refractive index of a transparent conductive oxide layer by applying the bias voltage. The electrical switching of diffracted beams of the ±1st order is shown. The possibility of doubling the angular resolution of beam steering by using asymmetric reflected phase distribution with integer and half-integer periods of the metagrating is demonstrated.

Аннотация: The effect of the shape of the nanoparticles and the polarization of incident light on the surface current density and the efficiency of an organic solar cell based on the Tamm plasmon polariton is investigated. In the cases of both elongated and flattened nanoparticles, it is shown that the efficiency of such a solar cell is increased when the electric field vector is parallel to the largest axis of the spheroid.

Аннотация: The influence of the volume fraction of plasmonic nanoparticles on the efficiency of the Tamm-plasmon-polariton-based organic solar cell is investigated in the framework of temporal coupled mode theory and confirmed by the transfer matrix method. It is shown that, unlike a conventional plasmonic solar cell, in which the efficiency is directly proportional to the volume fraction of nanoparticles in the photosensitive layer, the efficiency of the proposed solar cell reaches the highest value at low volume fractions. This effect is explained by the fact that at these volume fractions, the critical coupling condition of the incident field with the Tamm plasmon polariton is fulfilled. Thus, for the incoming radiation range of 350 to 500 nm, a maximal cell efficiency of 28% is achieved with a volume fraction of nanoparticles equal to 10%. Additionally, the optical properties of the photosensitive layer are compared for the cases of determining its complex refractive index by effective medium theory and the S-parameter retrieval method. A good agreement between the results is demonstrated, which encourages the use of the effective medium theory for preliminary calculations.

Аннотация: The possibility of creating a polarization-sensitive absorber on the basis of the splitting of a Tamm plasmon polariton at the interface between a metallic film and an anisotropic nanocomposite layer conjugated with a photonic crystal is theoretically predicted. The effect of geometrical parameters on the optical absorption spectra under the critical coupling conditions is discussed. It is shown that, changing the polarization of the radiation falling onto the structure along its normal, one can control the absorption at the Tamm plasmon polariton wavelength.

Аннотация: Light-trapping devices have always been a topic of intense interest among researchers. One such device that has gained attention is the hot-electron photodetector with a tunable detection wavelength. Photodetectors based on plasmon nanostructures that provide excitation of surface plasmon polaritons are challenging to manufacture. To address this issue, a planar hot-electron photodetector based on a Tamm plasmon polariton localized in a metal–semiconductor-multilayer mirror structure has been proposed in this study. The parameters and materials of the structure were adjusted to ensure perfect absorption at the resonance wavelength. As a result, the photoresponsivity of the proposed device can reach 42.6 mA W−1 at 905 nm. For the first time, the photosensitivity was calculated analytically by solving the dispersion law for the Tamm plasmon polariton.

Аннотация: Recently, two-dimensional materials have attracted attention owing to their special optical characteristics and miniaturization, with low thickness as well as extremely high responsivity. Additionally, Tamm plasmon polariton (TPP) resonance can be observed by combining a metal film and a one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystal (PC), where an electric field confinement is located at the metal–1D PC interface. In this study, a graphene layer combined with a TPP is proposed as a wavelength- and angle-selective photodetector. The graphene layer is located where the strong field confinement occurs, and the photocurrent response is significantly enhanced with increasing absorption by over four times (from 62.5 μA⋅W−1 to 271 μA⋅W−1 and undetected state to 330 μA⋅W−1 in two different samples). Moreover, the graphene–TPP photodetector has wavelength and angle selectivity, which can be applied in LiDAR detecting, sun sensors, laser beacon tracking, and navigational instruments in the future.

Аннотация: We consider light absorption in a germanium grating placed on top of photonic-crystalline substrate. Such a system supports an optical Tamm state decoupled from the continuous spectrum with its frequency within the photonic band gap. We have demonstrated that application of the Tamm state makes in possible to engineer extremely narrow absorber which provides a 100 % absorption in a semiconductor grating in the critical coupling regime. The proposed design may be used at both normal and oblique incidence at the telecom wavelength.

Аннотация: The dynamic steering of a beam reflected from a photonic structure supporting Tamm plasmon polariton is demonstrated. The phase and amplitude of the reflected wave are adjusted by modulating the refractive index of a transparent conductive oxide layer by applying a bias voltage. It is shown that the proposed design allows for two-dimensional beam steering by deflecting the light beam along the polar and azimuthal angles.

Аннотация: Tamm plasmon polariton (TPP) is an electromagnetic state at the interface of a metal and a dielectric Bragg mirror with slow propagation along the interface [1] similar to the Tamm state of electron localized at a semiconductor or metal surface. Generally the TPP supports both TE- and TM-polarizations. It can be utilized for narrowband filters, sensors, absorbers, emitters and polariton lasers. We consider a one-dimensional photonic crystal conju- gated with an opaque metal layer (Fig. 1(a)). Although made of isotropic materials the photonic crystal differentiates polarizations. At Brewster angle it becomes transparent for TM-waves (mag- netic field orthogonal to the incidence plane) and still maintains opaqueness for TE-waves. So, Brewster-tilted TPP is TE-polarized only. For the purpose of the TPP energy release into TM- wave we introduce a thin anisotropic layer at the interface. Then we can freely rotate the sample in the plane of the layers or equivalently rotate the incident light beam along the Brewster-angled cone. The azimuthal angle φ between the incidence plane and the anisotropic layer optical axis governs the Q factor of the Brewster-tilted TPP by coupling to the TM-wave relaxation channel (Fig. 1(b)). At φ = 0◦ the Brewster-tilted TPP can be considered as a symmetry-protected bound state in the continuum [2]. This keeps valid for deviations from Brewster angle until TM-stopband is narrow. The considered layered structure is easier in fabrication compared to previously proposed in [3], which facilitates numerous applications.

Аннотация: The spectral properties of a one-dimensional photonic crystal bounded by a resonant absorbing nanocomposite layer with the near-zero permittivity have been studied. The problem of calculating the transmittance, reflectance, and absorptance spectra of such structures at the normal and oblique incidence of light has been solved. It is shown that, depending on the permittivity sign near zero, the nanocomposite is characterized by either metallic or dielectric properties. The possibility of simultaneous formation of the Tamm plasmon polariton at the photonic crystal/metallic nanocomposite interface and the localized state similar to the defect mode with the field intensity maximum inside the dielectric nanocomposite layer is demonstrated. Specific features of field localization at the Tamm plasmon polariton and defect mode frequencies are analyzed. © 2018 by the authors.

Аннотация: Raman light scattering spectra of a ferroelectric sodium nitrite crystal is studied in the lattice mode region as the temperature is lowered from room temperature to 123 K. The existence of a Raman satellite corresponding to the soft lattice mode, i.e., transverse polar vibration responsible for the ferroelectric phase transition, is established for the first time. It is found that the intensity of the Raman scattering by the pseudo-scalar low-frequency A (2) mode exceeds the intensity of other lattice variations by an order of magnitude.

Аннотация: We have studied thermal effects occurring during excitation of optical plasmonic waveguide (OPW) in the form of linear chain of spherical Ag nanoparticles by pulsed laser radiation. It was shown that heating and subsequent melting of the first irradiated particle in a chain can significantly deteriorate the transmission efficiency of OPW that is the crucial and limiting factor and continuous operation of OPW requires cooling devices. This effect is caused by suppression of particle's surface plasmon resonance due to reaching the melting point temperature. We have determined optimal excitation parameters which do not significantly affect the transmission efficiency of OPW. © 2017

Аннотация: We propose to utilize titanium nitride (TiN) as an alternative material for linear periodic chains (LPCs) of nanoparticles (NPs) which support surface plasmon polariton (SPP) propagation. Dispersion and transmission properties of LPCs have been examined within the framework of the dipole approximation for NPs with various shapes: spheres, prolate and oblate spheroids. It is shown that LPCs of TiN NPs support high-Q eigenmodes for an SPP attenuation that is comparable with LPCs from conventional plasmonic materials such as Au or Ag, with the advantage that the refractory properties and cheap fabrication of TiN nanostructures are more preferable in practical implementations compared to Au and Ag. We show that the SPP decay in TiN LPCs remains almost the same even at extremely high temperatures which is impossible to reach with conventional plasmonic materials. Finally, we show that the bandwidth of TiN LPCs from non-spherical particles can be tuned from the visible to the telecommunication wavelength range by switching the SPP polarization, which is an attractive feature for integrating these structures into modern photonic devices.

Аннотация: Two schemes of excitation of a Tamm plasmon polariton localized at the interface between a photonic crystal and a nanocomposite with near-zero effective permittivity have been investigated in the framework of the temporal coupled-mode theory. The parameters of the structure have been determined, which correspond to the critical coupling of the incident field with a Tamm plasmon polariton and, consequently, ensure the total absorption of the incident radiation by the structure. It has been established that the spectral width of the absorption line depends on the scheme of Tamm plasmon polariton excitation and the parameters of a nanocomposite film. The features of field localization at the Tamm plasmon polariton frequency for different excitation schemes have been examined. It has been demonstrated that such media can be used as narrowband absorbers based on Tamm plasmon polaritons localized at the interface between a photonic crystal and a nanocomposite with near-zero effective permittivity.
