Аннотация: X-ray, optical, and ultrasonic investigations of TlMnCl//3 crystals demonstrated the occurrence of phase transitions at 296, 276, and 235 degree K. These transitions were accompanied by tetragonal and orthorhombic distortions of the perovskite cubic cell. A study was made of the complex twin structure, which appeared as a result of successive transitions. A compressive stress axis transformed the crystal to the single-domain state in any one of the phases. All transitions were assumed to be displacive and the results were compared with the properties of CsPbCl//3, which is the closest analog of the investigated crystal.

Аннотация: A classification of the octahedral tilt systems in perovskites is given, based on the work of Glazer1 but extending it and using a new notation; this leads to a simple description of the sequences of phase transitions, and shows how they are related to the soft modes M3 and R25. Examples from the literature are discussed.

Аннотация: The refractive indices and birefringence of CsPbCl//3, TlMnCl//3, and CsSrCl//3 were determined a wide temperature range, which included phase transition points. Relatively high values of the photoelastic and acoustooptic characteristics were obtained: the th acoustooptic figure of merit M//2 was 12 multiplied by (times) 10** minus **1**8 cgs units for TlMnCl//3 and 98 multiplied by (times) 10** minus **1**8 cgs units for CsPbCl//3. A strong influence of partial Sr for Ca substitution on the properties and transition temperatures was observed. A phenomenological theory was used to analyze the relationship between the birefringence anomalies and the theromodynamic parameters of the transitions. A comparison was made with KMnF//3 and SrTiO//3.

Аннотация: The ESR method at 9. 5 GHz was used to investigate Mn**2** plus and Gd**3** plus impurities in a CsSrCl//3 single crystal. Three consecutive displacive transitions at 112, 102, and 89 degree C were observed. The angular and temperature dependences of the ESR spectrum were recorded. The parameters of the ESR spectra of Mn**2** plus and Gd**3** plus were found. The changes in the crystal at each phase transition were considered.
