Аннотация: In recent years interest has been shown in crystals with the scheelite structure (point symmetry group 4/m) as promising materials for acoustooptic devices. However, nearly all the work done so far has been on the NaBi(MoO4)2 and PbMoO4 crystals. In this paper the authors give the results of a study of the elastic and acoustooptic properties of NaBi(WO4)2 and LiBi(MoO4)2 crystals from a series of isomorphic compounds with the scheelite structure carried out in order to determine the extent of the changes in the elastic and acoustooptic properties of this series of crystals when the structural elements are changed.

Аннотация: Describes a method for determining the effective elastic constants of anisotropic rocks from the results of ultrasonic measurements of the phase velocity of elastic body waves with arbitrary directions of the wave normal in the absence of a priori information on the texture symmetry. The proposed method has been applied to the results of ultrasonic measurements of a twice-deformed gneiss sample from the Lodogian series of the Baltic Shield. Аннотация: The anisotropy of the electromechanical properties of SH-waves and Lamb waves in yttrium aluminum borates, which are nonmagnetic representatives of the RMe3(BO3)4 single crystals family (where R=Y, La-Lu; M=Fe, Al, Cr, Ga, Sc) with unique properties of magnetoelectrics and multiferroics, has been studied. In the process of the numerical simulation of the acoustic waves characteristics, the values of linear electromechanical constants of YAl3(BO3)4 single crystals, previously measured by ultrasonic pulse echo and quasi-static methods, have been used.Исследована анизотропия электромеханичеких характеристик SH-волн и волн Лэмба в иттриевых алюмоборатах, которые являются немагнитным представителем семейства монокри- сталлов RMe3(BO3)4 (где R=Y, La-Lu; M=Fe, Al, Cr, Ga, Sc) с уникальными свойствами магнитоэлектриков и мультиферроиков. При численном моделировании характеристик акустических волн использованы значения линейных электромеханических постоянных монокристаллов YAl3(BO3)4, измеренных ранее ультразвуковым эхо-импульсным и квазистатическим методами.

Аннотация: Formation of incommensurate three-dimensional magnetic order below T* similar to 10 K in CuB2O4 is explained on the basis of strong correlation between the holes and localized spins. The Kondo lattice model is analysed for the case where spin polarons are the elementary excitations. The origin of the low-temperature specific heat maximum at T similar to 5 K is associated with a displacement of the polaron band bottom. A set of anomalies in the temperature dependence of the conductivity, shift of the optical conductivity maximum in the range of energies 0.02-0.12 eV and decreasing of the infrared absorption intensity is predicted.

Аннотация: Features of Raman gain of probe radiation in three-level atoms placed in a defect of a one-dimensional photonic crystal in the presence of laser radiation (pump) at an adjacent high-frequency transition have been theoretically investigated. It has been shown that there is a pump intensity range where narrow peaks (resonances) simultaneously appear in the transmission and reflection spectra of the probe field. Beyond this region, the peak in the transmission spectrum is transformed to a narrow dip. The spectral position of these peaks is determined by the Raman resonance and the transmittance and reflectance can be larger than unity at pump intensities from several microwatts per square centimeter to several tens of milliwatts per square centimeter. The nature of narrow peaks is due to a sharp dispersion of a nonlinear refractive index near the Raman resonance; this dispersion is responsible for a strong decrease in the group velocity of probe radiation. The proposed scheme makes it possible to obtain controlled ultranarrow resonances in the transmission and reflection spectra of the photonic crystal.

Аннотация: Analytical formulas are derived for the transmission and reflection coefficients of electromagnetic E- and H-waves incident at an arbitrary angle on a one-dimensional strip conductor grating located at the interface between two dielectric media. The feasibility of adjusting the grating reflectivity within wide limits by varying its design parameters is demonstrated, which allows these structures to be used in multilayered dielectric bandpass filters.

Аннотация: Simple formulas for determination of components of the scattering matrix of a plane electromagnetic wave incident along the normal onto a thin infinite 2D metal lattice with square windows placed at the interface of two media are derived for the first time. Frequency responses (FRs) of this structure calculated with the use of these formulas agree well with responses obtained by the numerical electromagnetic analysis of a 3D model in the case when the lattice period is less than one-half of the wavelength. The capability of efficient control of the FR of the analyzed structure by means of variation in the width of conductors and the lattice period enables application of this lattice for fabrication of a reflector with prescribed reflectivity. Such reflectors at interfaces of dielectric layers are required, for example, in the design of multilayer sufaces radio transparent in a specified frequency band or optical bandpass filters.
