Аннотация: Исследовано оптическое пропускание гибридно-упорядоченного нематического слоя с поверхностной линией дисклинации, деформированного импульсным магнитным полем. Получены выражения для времен реакции на полевое воздействие и релаксации жидкого кристалла к недеформированному состоянию. Время реакции оказалось существенно больше расчетного значения и сопоставимым с длительностью импульса магнитного поля. Выведены зависимости интенсивности света от разности фаз между обыкновенным и необыкновенным лучами с учетом рассеяния. Для процесса релаксации получено хорошее совпадение экспериментальной и расчетной временных зависимостей интенсивности лазерного излучения, прошедшего через весь слой жидкого кристалла, за исключением тонкого переходного приповерхностного слоя. Аномалия хода кривой релаксации в переходном слое рассмотрена в рамках известных модельных представлений.
The optical transmission of a hybrid-ordered nematic layer with a surface disclination line, strained by a pulsed magnetic field, is studied. The expressions for the reaction times to the field action and relaxation of a liquid crystal to an untrained state are obtained. The experimental reaction time turned out to be significantly longer than its calculated value and comparable to the magnetic field pulse duration. The light intensity dependences on the phase difference between the ordinary and extraordinary rays, taking into account scattering are derived. For the relaxation process, good agreement is obtained between the experimental and calculated time dependences of the laser radiation intensity transmitted through the entire liquid crystal layer, with the exception of a thin transitional near-surface layer. The anomaly in the course of the relaxation curve run in the transition layer is considered within the framework of the known model concepts.

Аннотация: The time evolution of multispin correlations (the growth of the number of correlated spins as a function of time) can be observed directly using the multiple-quantum nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of solids. A quantity related to this number, namely, the second moment of the intensity distribution of coherences of different orders in the multiple-quantum spectrum can be calculated using the theory proposed in this work. An approach to the calculation of the four-spin time correlation function through which this moment is expressed is developed. The main sequences of contributions in the expansion of this function into a time power series are summed using the approximation of a large number of neighbors both for systems with a secular dipole-dipole interaction and for systems with a nonsecular effective interaction. An exponential dependence of is obtained. The value of is additionally calculated using an expansion in terms of orthogonal operators for three model examples corresponding to different limiting realizations of spin systems. It is shown that the results of the microscopic theory at least qualitatively agree with both the results obtained for model examples and experimental results obtained recently for adamantane.

Аннотация: The vibration frequencies of unstable ferroelectric and antiferrodistortion modes and the dependences of the energy on the ion displacement amplitude have been calculated within the generalized Gordon-Kim model for distortions along eigenvectors of these modes in the mixed compounds Sr(1-x)A(x)Ti(1-x/4)square O-x/4(3) and Sr(1-y)A(2y/3)square y/3TiO3 (A = Sc3+, In3+, La3+, Bi3+; square is the vacancy). To compensate an excess positive charge, vacancies are introduced into the Ti4+ or Sr2+ site. Calculations have been performed in the "average" crystal approximation for impurity concentrations of 0.25 and 0.50. To this end, a set of 40 atomic superlattices with various orderings of heterovalent ions Sr2+ and impurity A(3+) has been considered. It has been found that each impurity type, independently of charge balance, induces ferroelectric instabilities in doped compounds. In the case of doping with In3+ and La3+ for concentration x = 0.25, the possibility of rotating the polarization vector has been shown.

Аннотация: Magnetic susceptibility, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and optical properties have been studied in a glass system {20La(2)O(3)-22Al(2)O(3)-23B(2)O(3)-35(SiO2+GeO2)} with a part of La2O3 substituted by Gd2O3 in different concentrations. Positive Weiss constants have been found in the more heavily doped glasses and ascribed to clustering of Gd3+ ions. Two magnetic phase transitions at 55 and 12 K were detected and ascribed, respectively, to ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic clusters containing Gd ions. The overall shape of the EPR spectra shows the presence of clustering at the higher Gd contents. At low temperatures the cluster-related resonance signal is altered in shape, indicating an onset of magnetic anisotropy field. This signal is convincingly fitted to superparamagnetic resonance arising from ferromagnetic nanoparticles. The clustering, depending on the Gd concentration, correlates with a significant shift to lower energies of the strong optical absorption band edge, ascribed to a charge transfer transition between Gd ions. A nonmonotonous change of refractive index with the increase of the Gd content indicates changes in the glass matrix and in Gd cluster structure.

Аннотация: We analyze superconducting instabilities in 3D and 2D extended Hubbard model with Coulomb repulsion between electrons on neighboring sites in the limit of low electron density (n(el) - 0) on simple cubic (square) lattice. We show that in a realistic strong-coupling case U V W (U and V are the onsite and the intersite Coulomb repulsions, respectively, and W the bandwidth) the main SC instability corresponds to the p-wave pairing and in the leading order is correctly described by the equations obtained earlier in the absence of the intersite Coulomb interaction V = 0.

Аннотация: The thermal expansion properties of the ceramic compositions Ba1-yLayTi1-y/4O3 (y = 0.0, 0.026, 0.036, 0.054) and Ba1-yBi2y/3Ti1-xZrxO3 (y = 0.10; x = 0.0, 0.04, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15) were determined in the temperature range 120-700 K. We report the temperature- dependent measurements of the strain, thermal expansion coefficient and the magnitude of root mean square polarization. The results obtained are discussed together with the data on the structure and dielectric properties.

Аннотация: Deformation and the thermal expansion coefficient of ceramic samples of (Ba1 - x La (x) )Ti1 - x/4O3 solid solutions (x = 0, 0.026, 0.036, 0.054) were studied in the temperature range 120-700 K. Based on an analysis of the data obtained, the temperature-composition phase diagram is refined, and the temperature dependence of the polarization is calculated. The results are discussed in combination with the dielectric measurement data.

Аннотация: The paper presents the results of detailed studies of the thermal expansion of (1-x)he paper presents the results of detailed studies of the thermal expansion of (1-x)PbNi1/3Nb2/3O3-xPbTiO3 solid solutions with x = 0-0.8. The anomalous and lattice contributions to deformation and the thermal expansion coefficient are analyzed and the mean square polarization Pd is determined. The results obtained are discussed within the framework of the thermodynamic theory and the Landau 2-4-6 coefficients for solid solutions are estimated.

Аннотация: High-temperature G0 polymorph of Rb2KMoO3F3 has been prepared by melt solidification. Micromorphology and chemical properties of the final product were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The elpasolite-related crystal structure of G0-Rb2KMoO3F3 has been refined by Rietveld method at T = 298 K (space group Fm-3m, a = 8.92446(8) Å, V = 710.76(1) Å3; RB = 3.55%). Ferroelectric G1-Rb2KMoO3F3 polymorph, earlier reported at T˂328 K, is not found at T = 298 K.

Аннотация: The magnetic properties of three-layer Co-Ge magnetic films have been studied experimentally as a function of technological conditions of their deposition. It has been found that the films deposited at a high deposition rate have a granular structure, and the films obtained at a low deposition rate have an X-ray amorphous structure. Electron microscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance studies have demonstrated that, at the same cobalt layer thickness, the semiconductor granule sizes depend on the average semiconductor layer thickness and correlate with the formation of different cobalt phases (amorphous, cubic, and hexagonal). The thermomagnetic properties of the films have been investigated. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: Dielectric, X-ray, Mossbauer and magnetization studies of (1 − x)PbFe0.5Ta0.5O3–(x)PbTiO3 ceramics with 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3 have been carried out to determine the compositional evolution of ferroelectric and magnetic phase transition temperatures. Addition of PbTiO3 to PbFe0.5Ta0.5O3 increases the temperature T m of the dielectric permittivity maximum, decreases both the diffusion of this maximum and its frequency dependence. However, the Curie–Weiss temperature exceeds T m for all the compositions studied, indicating that the phase transition still remains diffused. Dilution of the (Fe, Ta)-sublattice by Ti lowers the Neel temperature T N but above a certain compositional threshold (x ≈ 0.1) fast lowering of T N stops and a new magnetic state stable in a rather wide compositional range appears. Large difference between the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and FC magnetization–temperature curves as well as between the temperatures of magnetic phase transition determined from Mossbauer and magnetization studies for compositions with x 0.1 implies that this state is a spin-glass phase.

Аннотация: The high-pressure behaviour of cordierite, a widespread ring aluminosilicate with channels incorporating fluid compounds (H2O, CO2), is characterized by the absence of phase transitions up to 2.5 GPa. However, the distortion of the ring tetrahedra observed previously at 2.3 GPa is supposed to introduce a phase transition at higher pressure, which has not been checked so far. This work presents a high-pressure Raman spectroscopic study of natural cordierite compressed in water medium up to 4.7 GPa in a diamond anvil cell. At P > 4 GPa, a disordering of both the framework and intrachannel H2O subsystem is apparent from significant broadening of Raman peaks and the evolution of short-range order parameters. This is followed by abrupt shifts of the framework and O–H stretching modes at about 4.5 GPa, indicating a first-order phase transition. Its reversibility is seen from the recovery of the initial spectrum at P < 3 GPa. The shift amplitudes of different framework modes indicate the predominance of distortion over contraction of the framework polyhedra upon this transition. The disordering of the H2O subsystem in the high-pressure phase is likely a consequence of distortion of the channel-forming framework elements, which is supposed to be a driving force of this transition. Аннотация: Intrinsic isotropic near-zero thermal expansion is discovered in borate crystal Zn4B6O13 with high transparency in the ultraviolet region. First-principles calculations demonstrate that the very low thermal expansion originates mainly from the invariability of the solid [B24O48] truncated octahedra that are fixed by the [Zn4O13] clusters in the ZBO structure.

Аннотация: The measured frequency dependence of the electric impedance of a composite based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene reinforced with carbon nanotubes in contact with an electrolyte is presented. The behavior of the active and reactive impedance components, permittivity, and conductivity in the frequency range from 0.1 Hz to 120 MHz is analyzed. An equivalent electric circuit simulating the dispersion of the impedance of the polymer composite making contact with the electrolyte is proposed. The formation of a double electric layer at the interface between the polymer composite and electrolyte layer is demonstrated and the electrical characteristics of this layer are determined.

Аннотация: High-quality single crystals of ludwigites Cu2MBO5 (M = Fe3+, Ga3+) have been grown, and the magnetic, resonance, and Mossbauer studies have been performed. It is established that the Cu2FeBO5 and Cu2GaBO5 compounds are antiferromagnets with Neel temperatures of 32 and 3.4 K, respectively. A model of the magnetic structure of the compounds is proposed. It is shown that the magnetic properties of the ludwigites are substantially dependent on the degree of ion distribution over crystallographic positions.

Аннотация: Ferrihydrite nanoparticles (2-5 nm in size) produced by bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca in the course of biomineralization of iron salt solutions from a natural medium exhibit unique magnetic properties: they are characterized by both the antiferromagnetic order inherent in a bulk ferrihydrite and the spontaneous magnetic moment due to the decompensation of spins in sublattices of a nanoparticle. The magnetic susceptibility enhanced by the superantiferromagnetism effect and the magnetic moment independent of the magnetic field provide the possibility of magnetically controlling these natural objects. This has opened up the possibilities for their use in nanomedicine and bioengineering. The results obtained from measurements of the magnetic properties of the ferrihydrite produced by Klebsiella oxytoca in its two main crystalline modifications are reported, and the data obtained are analyzed theoretically. This has made it possible to determine numerical values of the magnetic parameters of real biomineral nanoparticles.

Аннотация: Low-temperature studies of the behavior of the sound velocity and attenuation of acoustic modes have been performed on a single crystal NdFe3(BO3)(4) Transitions of the magnetic subsystem to the antiferromagnetically ordered state at T-N approximate to 30.6 K have been revealed in the temperature behavior of the elastic characteristics. The features in the temperature behavior of elastic characteristics of the neodymium ferroborate and its behavior in the external magnetic field, applied in the basic plane of the crystal, permit us to suppose that the transition to an incommensurate spiral phase is realized in the system. This phase transition behaves as the first order one. H-T phase diagrams for the cases H parallel to a and H parallel to b have been constructed. Аннотация: Magnetic susceptibility, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical absorption have been studied in a glass system 20La(2)O(3)-22Al(2)O(3)-23B(2)O(3)-35(SiO2 + GeO2) with a part of La2O3 substituted by Gd2O3 in different concentrations. Positive Weiss constants have been found in more heavily doped glasses and ascribed to clustering of Gd3+ ions. Computer simulations of the EPR spectra show that the short-range ordering in the environment of the Gd3+ ions is well preserved. The relative distribution widths of the ligand coordinates are less than 2%. In the more heavily doped glasses the EPR spectra are superpositions of signals arising from isolated ions and ferromagnetic clusters. The increase of Gd3+ concentration is shown to change substantially the strong optical absorption edge while only small changes of f-f absorption band characteristics are observed. This difference is associated with the different effect of the Gd ion clustering on the mechanisms of the strong absorption in the ultraviolet region and the f-f absorption.
