Аннотация: A new blue-emitting phosphor Li3Sc2(PO4)3:Eu2+ was synthesized by a high temperature solid-state reaction method, and the crystal structure and photoluminescence properties were investigated in detail. The preferred crystallographic position of the Eu2+ ions in the Li3Sc2(PO4)3 host were determined from the structural analysis and spectroscopic properties. The as-prepared phosphor gave an intense blue emission band centered at 439 nm with the CIE coordinate of (0.1540, 0.0317) upon the excitation of the near ultraviolet light. The critical quenching concentration of Eu2+ in Li3Sc2(PO4)3:Eu2+ was about 15 mol%, and the corresponding concentration quenching mechanism was verified to be the dipole-quadrupole interaction. The fluorescence lifetime of Eu2+ emission and the thermal stable luminescence property have been investigated. Li3Sc2(PO4)3:Eu2+ was found to be a promising candidate as a blue-emitting n-UV convertible phosphor for the application in white light emitting diodes (w-LEDs).

Аннотация: The orthosilicate phosphors demonstrate great potential in the field of solid-state lighting, and the understanding of the structure-property relationships depending on their versatile polymorphs and chemical compositions is highly desirable. Here we report the structural phase transformation of Ca2-xSrxSiO4:Ce3+ phosphor by Sr2+ substituting for Ca2+ within 0 ≤ x 2. The crystal structures of Ca2-xSrxSiO4:Ce3+ are divided into two groups, namely, β phase (0 ≤ x 0.15) and α′ phase (0.18 ≤ x 2), and the phase transition (β → α′) mechanism originated from the controlled chemical compositions is revealed. Our findings verified that the phase transition Pnma (α′-phase) ↔ P21/n (β-phase) can be ascribed to the second-order type, and Sr2+ ions in Ca2-xSrxSiO4 preferentially occupy the seven-coordinated Ca2+ sites rather than the eight-coordinated sites with increasing Sr2+ content, which was reflected from the Rietveld refinements and further clarified through the difference of the Ca-O bond length in the two polymorphs of Ca2SiO4. The emission peaks of Ce3+ shift from 417 to 433 nm in the composition range of 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.8, and the difference in the decay curves can also verify the phase transformation process. Thermal quenching properties of selected Ca2-xSrxSiO4:Ce3+ samples were evaluated, and the results show that the integral emission intensities at 200 °C maintain 90% of that at room temperature suggesting superior properties for the application as white light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs) phosphors. © 2015 American Chemical Society.

Eu2+-doped phosphors -- light-emitting diodes -- photoluminescence -- red emission
Аннотация: Discovering new Eu2+-doped red-emitting phosphors in oxide-based materials is a challenge for white light-emitting diode (WLED) applications. Herein, a highly efficient high-frequency induction heating method is employed to rapidly prepare the red-emitting Sr2Sc0.5Ga1.5O5:Eu2+ phosphors peaking at 614 nm and exhibiting a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 78.4% under the excitation of 440 nm. The structural and spectral analyses suggest that Eu2+ ions tend to enter the [Sc1/Ga1O6] and [Ga2O6] polyhedrons with small coordination numbers, leading to the broadband red emission originated from large crystal field splitting of Eu2+ 5d level. The chemical substitution of Ba in the Sr site enhances the thermal stability and helps to the photoluminescence tuning from 614 to 728 nm in SrBaSc0.5Ga1.5O5:Eu2+. The WLED device fabricated by blending the red Sr1.7Ba0.3Sc0.5Ga1.5O5:Eu2+ and yellow Y3(Al, Ga)5O12:Ce3+ phosphors shows a high color-rendering index (Ra = 91.1), and low color-correlated temperature (CCT = 4750 K). This study aims to provide a new synthesis method and design principle for guiding the development of Eu2+-doped oxide-based red phosphors with low preparation cost; moreover, the photoluminescence tuning strategy via cation substitutions is essential to achieve tunable emission, even the near-infrared luminescence.

Аннотация: Here we reported the phase formation of MxMg2Al4+xSi5-xO18:Eu2+ (M = K, Rb) solid solution phosphors, where M+ ions were introduced into the void channels of Mg2Al4Si5O18 via Al3+/Si4+ substitution to keep the charge balance. XRD results revealed that the as-prepared phosphors with different M+ contents were iso-structural with Mg2Al4Si5O18 phase. The combined analysis of the Rietveld refinement and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) results proved that M+ ions were surely introduced into the intrinsic channels in Mg2Al4Si5O18. The emission peaks of MxMg2Al4+xSi5-xO18:Eu2+ (M = K, Rb) phosphors with various x values performed a systematic red-shift tendency, which was ascribed to the elongation of [MgO6] octahedra. The temperature stable photoluminescence and internal quantum efficiency (QE) of MxMg2Al4+xSi5-xO18:Eu2+ (M = K, Rb) phosphors were enhanced owing to the filling of M+ in the void channels suggesting a new insight to design the solid solution phosphors with improved photoluminescence properties.

Аннотация: The versatile polymorphism and chemical compositions of barium silicates have been studied for a long time and their crystal structures have been established. Herein, we focused on the understanding of the crystal structure of the Ba4Si6O16 phase and the structural correlation of Ba4Si6O16 and Ba2Si3O8; moreover, the luminescence properties of Ce3+,Eu2+-co-activated Ba4Si6O16 phosphors have been discussed. Ba4Si6O16:Ce3+,Eu2+ phosphors show tunable blue-green emission upon excitation with 365 nm ultraviolet (UV) light. The blue emission originates from Ce3+, whereas the bluish-green emission is ascribed to Eu2+, and variation in the emission peak wavelength from 442 to 497 nm can be achieved by properly tuning the Ce3+/Eu2+ ratio. Energy transfer from Ce3+ to Eu2+ in the Ba4Si6O16 host has been validated by the variation of emission spectra as well as the variation of Ce3+ decay lifetimes with increasing Eu2+ concentration, and the energy transfer mechanism is demonstrated to be a resonant type via a dipole-dipole process. The results suggest that Ba4Si6O16:Ce3+,Eu2+ phosphors are potential candidates as a blue-green component for UV-excited white light-emitting diodes. © 2015 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Аннотация: Cyan-emitting LiBaBO3:Eu2+ phosphor was synthesized by solid-state reaction at 800 °C. Structure refinement by Rietveld method reveals that LiBaBO3 crystallizes in a monoclinic cell, space groups P21/c or P21/n. Upon 365 nm excitation, LiBaBO3:Eu2+ shows a symmetric emission band peaking at 496 nm with full-width at half-maximum of 80 nm; when monitoring at 496 nm, a broad excitation band in the UV region (250–420 nm) is observed. The luminescence property of LiBaBO3:Eu2+ is considerably different from LiSrBO3:Eu2+ which holds the same space group. The local structures of the two hosts are compared to explain the different behaviors of Eu2+.

Аннотация: A series of apatite solid solution phosphors Ca2+xLa8-x(SiO4)6-x(PO4)xO2:Eu2+ (x = 0,2,4,6) were synthesized by a conventional higherature solid-state reaction. The phase purity was examined using XRD, XPS and XRF. The crystal structure information, such as the concentration, cell parameters and occupation rate, was analyzed using a Rietveld refinement, demonstrating that the Eu2+ activated the Ca2La8(SiO4)6O2 and Ca8La2(PO4)6O2 to form continuous solid solution phosphors. Different behaviors of luminescence evolution in response to structural variation were verified among the series of phosphors. Two kinds of Eu2+ ion sites were proved using low temperature PL spectra (8k) and room temperature decay curves. The substitution of large La3+ ions by small Ca2+ ions induced a decreased crystal field splitting of the Eu2+ ions, which caused an increase in emission energy from the 5d excited state to the 4f ground state and a resultant blue-shift from 508 nm to 460 nm. Therefore, with the crystal structure evolution, the emitted color of the series of phosphors could be tuned from green to blue by adjusting the ratio of Ca/La. © 2016 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Аннотация: In this paper, a series of novel luminescent Sr1−xAl12O19:xEu2+ phosphors were synthesized by a high temperature solid-state reaction. The phase structure, photoluminescence (PL) properties, as well as the decay curves were investigated. The quenching concentration of Eu2+ in SrAl12O19 was about 0.15 (mol). Upon excitation at 378 nm, the composition-optimized Sr0.85Al12O19:0.15Eu2+ exhibited strong broad-band green emission at 530 nm with the CIE chromaticity (0.2917, 0.5736). The results indicate that Sr1−xAl12O19:xEu2+ phosphors have potential applications as green-emitting phosphors for UV-pumped white-light LEDs.

light-emitting diodes -- photoluminescence -- red emission
Аннотация: The discovery of Eu2+-doped high-efficiency red phosphors remains a vital challenge for white light-emitting diode (WLED) applications. It is therefore urgent to find effective strategies managing the oxidation state to help reduce Eu3+ to Eu2+ and accordingly increase the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). Herein, a new red-emitting SrLaScO4:Eu phosphor is designed, and the PLQY is enhanced from 13% to 67% under 450 nm excitation by employing (NH4)2SO4-assisted sintering. Combined structural analysis, optical spectroscopy, and theoretical calculation reveal that predominant Eu2+ prefers to occupy the Sr2+ sites in the SrLaScO4 enabling red emission, and a competitive site occupation of Eu3+ in La3+ can be restrained, and the reduction mechanism of Eu3+ to Eu2+ originating from the (NH4)2SO4 addition is analyzed. The fabricated WLED device using red-emitting SrLaScO4:Eu and yellow-emitting Y3(Al,Ga)5O12:Ce3+ exhibits a high color-rendering index of 86.7 at a low correlated color temperature of 4005 K. This work provides a feasible reduction strategy for guiding the development of high-efficiency Eu2+-doped red phosphor for WLED applications.

Аннотация: Single-phase La6Sr4(SiO4)6F2: Ce3+, Tb3+ samples with apatite-like structure have been synthesized via solid-state reaction method. The phase structure, luminescence properties, lifetime, the PL thermal stability, as well as the fluorescence decay curves of the samples were investigated to characterize the resulting samples. Effective energy transfer occurs from Ce3+ to Tb3+ in La6Sr4(SiO4)6F2, which shows more intense Blue-Green light under UV light excitation. In addition, a possible mechanism of the energy-transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ ion is also proposed. The critical distance RC of Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions in La6Sr4(SiO4)6F2 host was calculated to be 11.878 Å. All the results indicate that La6Sr4(SiO4)6F2:Ce3+, Tb3+ phosphors have potential applications to be used as near UV-convertible phosphors for white light-emitting diodes. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
