Аннотация: The coefficient of directed transmittance of a stretched polymer-dispersed liquid crystal film with a defect-free single-domain liquid crystal droplet structure formed by a stretched surfactant-doped film and the polarization degree of forward-transmitted light in the visible and near-infrared spectrum ranges are studied. Results are presented for the 5CB, E7, and E44 nematic liquid crystals. Dependences of the transmission coefficient and polarizing ability of the film on the photodetector field of view are studied. Relationships allowing one to determine film parameters at which the transmission coefficient and polarizing ability of the films simultaneously reach values close to limit ones (0.5 and ±1.0, respectively) are obtained in the Foldy–Twersky and anomalous diffraction approximations.

Аннотация: As one of the key elements of indoor agriculture, horticultural light sources are developing rapidly towards requiring high energy density, high output power and high stability, which poses a challenge for traditional phosphor conversion devices. To address this, an all-inorganic blue-red dual-emitting light convertor consisting of Ba1.3Sr1.7MgSi2O8:Eu2+,Mn2+ (BSMS) phosphor-in-glass (PiG) plates was prepared to improve the duration lifetime of converted high-power light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and meet the light quality requirements of photosynthesis for indoor agriculture. The obtained samples show an external quantum efficiency of 45.3%, outstanding thermal stability and a specific emission spectrum that highly matches the absorption of chlorophyll and β-carotene. Moreover, a proof-of-concept BSMS-PiG horticultural lamp for application in an indoor plant factory was successfully fabricated based on a ∼370 nm emitting LED chip. The blue-red ratio of its spectrum could be regulated by controlling the thickness of BSMS-PiG and the concentrations of Mn2+ ions within BSMS-PiG. The BSMS-PiG horticultural LEDs were applied to the indoor cultivation of Romaine lettuce. The results indicated that the biomass of Romaine lettuce was 58.21% greater than that of control lettuce samples cultivated under commercial plant lamps. In particular, the content values of total chlorophyll, β-carotene and soluble protein were improved. The BSMS-PiG horticultural LED is a potential candidate to act as a high-power horticultural light source.

Аннотация: We have studied the dynamic and static processes occurring in disordered multiparticle colloidal Ag aggregates with natural structure and affecting their plasmonic absorption spectra under pico- and nanosecond pulsed laser radiations, as well as the physical origin responsible for these processes. We have shown that depending on the duration of the laser pulse, the mechanisms of laser modification of such aggregates can be associated both with changes in the resonant properties of the particles due to their heating and melting (picosecond irradiation mode) and with the particle shifts in the resonant domains of the aggregates (nanosecond pulses) which depend on the wavelength, intensity, and polarization of the radiation. These mechanisms result in formation of a narrow dip in the plasmonic absorption spectrum of the aggregates near the laser radiation wavelength and affect the shape and position of the dip. The effect of polydispersity of nanoparticle aggregates on laser photochromic reaction has been studied.

Аннотация: We consider nonlinear effects in scattering of light by a periodic structure supporting optical bound states in the continuum. In the spectral vicinity of the bound states the scattered electromagnetic field is resonantly enhanced triggering optical bistability. Using coupled mode approach we derive a nonlinear equation for the amplitude of the resonant mode associated with the bound state. We show that such an equation for the isolated resonance can be easily solved yielding bistable solutions which are in quantitative agreement with the full-wave solutions of Maxwell's equations. The coupled mode approach allowed us to cast the the problem into the form of a driven nonlinear oscillator and analyze the onset of bistability under variation of the incident wave. The results presented drastically simplify the analysis nonlinear Maxwell's equations and, thus, can be instrumental in engineering optical response via bound states in the continuum.

Аннотация: Проведены расчёты с использованием метода трансфер матриц одномерных фотонных кристаллов с низким контрастом и разнопериодными асимметричными структурами. Такие структуры были найдены во многих растениях. При состыковке двух последовательно соединённых подрешёток с разными периодами отмечается увеличение амплитуды электромагнитного поля и плотности фотонных состояний внутри структуры и их изменение в зависимости от асимметрии толщин подрешёток.
Calculations were performed using the transfer matrix of one-dimensional photonic crystals with low contrast and asymmetric structures of different periods. Such structures have been found in many plants. When joining two successively connected sublattices with different periods, an increase is observed in the amplitude of the electromagnetic field and the density of photon states inside the structure, and their change depends on the asymmetry of the thickness of the sublattices.

Аннотация: The photoinduced diode effect has been found in BiMnxFe1-xO3 (0 < X < 0.15) films in the near-infrared and violet spectral ranges in a wide temperature interval. The dependences of the diode effect on temperature, wavelength, and illumination power have been established. The mechanism of the ferroelectric diode has been determined using its I-V characteristics at different illumination powers, optical spectra, far-infrared absorption spectra, and electric polarization hysteresis. The interplay between the photodiode effect and conductivity mechanism has been elucidated. The model of strong Coulomb potential fluctuations and quantum well asymmetry caused by the electric polarization in the film and difference between the times of carrier thermalization and recombination of electrons and holes is proposed.
В пленках феррита висмута BiMnxFe1-xO3 (0< x < 0.15) обнаружен фотоиндуцированный диодный эффект в ближней инфракрасной и фиолетовой областях спектра в широкой области температур. Определена зависимость диодного эффекта от температуры, длины волны, мощности освещения. Механизм ферроэлектрического диода определяется из вольт-амперных характеристик при разных интенсивностях освещения, оптических спектров и спектров поглощения в дальней ИК области, гистерезиса электрической поляризации. Устанавливается связь фотодиодного эффекта с механизмом проводимости. Предложена модель сильных флуктуаций кулоновского потенциала, асимметрия квантовых ям в результате наличия электрической поляризации в пленке и отличие времен термолизации носителей тока и рекомбинации электронов и дырок.

Аннотация: The existence of bound states in the continuum (BIC) manifests a general wave phenomenon first predicted in quantum mechanics by John von Neumann and Eugene Wigner [J. von Neumann and E. Wigner, Phys. Z. 30, 465 (1929)]. Today it is being actively explored in photonics, radiophysics, acoustics, and hydrodynamics. We report an experimental observation of an electromagnetic bound state in the radiation continuum in a one-dimensional array of dielectric particles. By measurement of the transmission spectra of the ceramic disk chain at GHz frequencies, we demonstrate how a resonant state in the vicinity of the center of the Brillouin zone turns into a symmetry-protected BIC with increase in the number of the disks. We estimate a number of the disks when the radiation losses become negligible in comparison to material absorption and, therefore, the chain could be considered practically as infinite. The presented analysis is supplemented by measurements of the near fields of the symmetry-protected BIC. All measurements are in a good agreement with the results of the numerical simulation and analytical model based on a tight-binding approximation. The obtained results provide useful guidelines for practical implementations of structures with bound states in the continuum that opens up horizons for the development of optical and radio-frequency metadevices.

Аннотация: Two schemes of excitation of a Tamm plasmon polariton localized at the interface between a photonic crystal and a nanocomposite with near-zero effective permittivity have been investigated in the framework of the temporal coupled-mode theory. The parameters of the structure have been determined, which correspond to the critical coupling of the incident field with a Tamm plasmon polariton and, consequently, ensure the total absorption of the incident radiation by the structure. It has been established that the spectral width of the absorption line depends on the scheme of Tamm plasmon polariton excitation and the parameters of a nanocomposite film. The features of field localization at the Tamm plasmon polariton frequency for different excitation schemes have been examined. It has been demonstrated that such media can be used as narrowband absorbers based on Tamm plasmon polaritons localized at the interface between a photonic crystal and a nanocomposite with near-zero effective permittivity.

Аннотация: We trace the Q factor of the resonant modes which are limited to bound states in the continuum (BICs) for N=∞ in the finite array of N dielectric spheres and disks. For the symmetry-protected BICs we observe the quadratic dependence of the Q factor on N for high-refractive-index particles, while for low-refractive-index particles there is an interplay between the quadratic and cubic dependencies. The Q factor of accidental BICs grows cubically with N. We show that a plane wave can excite these quasi-BICs for tuning of the angle of incidence.

Аннотация: In this work we experimentally observe a symmetry protected optical bound state in the continuum (BIC) with zero angular momentum in 1D array of ceramic disks at GHz frequencies. We analyze the dependence of Q factor of BIC on the number of the disks and the level of the material losses. We confirmed theoretical prediction about quadratic growth of the Q factor with the number of the disks and its following saturation due to material losses.
