Аннотация:
The local changes produced in the electronic structure and their effect on the physical
properties
of the superconducting and normal phases when zinc and nickel are substituted for copper are examined on the basis of a multiband p-d model. It is shown that strong electronic correlations suppress the S = 1 configuration of Ni2+ and cause the superposition of the S = 1/2 and S = 0 states of nickel. The change in the density of states in p- and n-type systems is studied, and the peculiarity of Zn impurity for p- type systems and Ni impurity for n-type systems is shown. The universal dependence of the T-c on the residual resistance in lightly doped superconductors and deviations from it in optimally doped systems are discussed. Аннотация:
A study is reported of the structural,
magnetic
, and magneto-optic
properties
of Mn/Dy/Bi films obtained by multilayer technology. The maximum Kerr rotation angle in such films is shown to be theta(k) = 2.25 degrees. Possible reasons for such a large Kerr effect enhancement are considered, namely, an increase in the 6p - 3d transition probability caused by symmetry distortion, polarization of the Bi6p band, and a change in the density of states near the Fermi level. The latter reason has been analyzed by simulating the electronic structure of Mn/Dy/Bi through superposition of Dy levels on the MnBi band structure. This approach has revealed possible additional transitions which may be induced by the presence of a Dy buffer and could contribute to the Kerr magneto-optic effect. Аннотация:
The crystallographic and group theoretical analysis of the structural phase transitions in perovskite and perovskite-like crystals is reviewed. We include ABX(3) perovskites and their relative crystals of ReO3 type (G(0) = O-h(1)), elpasolites, cryolites and their relatives (G(0) = O-h(5)) layered crystals of TIAIF(4) series (G(0) = D-4h(1)), Aurivillius and Ruddlesden-Popper series (G(0) = D-4h(17)). The structures in their initial phase G(0) often contain n layers (n = 1, 2,3) of vertex linked octahedra. The distorted phases produced by one kind of tilt and by superposition of tilts in the slabs are enumerated. Most of the tilts correspond to symmetry changes, which can be associated to definite librational lattice modes irreducible representations of the G(0) group. The softening of modes associated to the PT has been found experimentally in many perovskites, elpasolites and layered crystals with n = 1. In contrast, no such soft modes have been found yet for even-layered (n = 2) crystals. Examples of successive phase transitions due to the superposition of tilts in these types of crystals have been collected.

Аннотация:
Faraday rotation (FR) spectral, field, and temperature dependencies in oxide glasses with small additions of paramagnetic elements are investigated. Formation of ferrite nanoparticles in amorphous glass matrices is revealed by X-ray diffraction. Particles have crystal structure similar to spinel structure, their dimensions are about 10-24 nm. The FR field dependencies are typical for ferrimagnetic or superparamagnetic substances depending on particle size. Strong FR increase at the samples cooling (more than twice for some samples) in the temperature interval 105-273 K is observed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация:
The spectrum of the two-particle spin-singlet (DeltaS(z) = 0, +/-1) excitations of a weakly coupled antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 alternating (J(1) +/- delta) chain is calculated using a mean-field approximation for the interchain exchange (J(2)) by the quantum Monte Carlo method. The bandwidth change of these excitations, the mass gaps in the singlet-singlet excitation spectrum, the top boundaries of the bands and the velocities of these excitations are estimated as functions of the alternating bond delta. The temperatures at which the singlet gaps close are determined.

The values of saturation magnetization M-s, exchange coupling constant A, local
magnetic
anisotropy field H-a , random anisotropy correlation radius R-c, and coercive force H-c were independently measured for multilayer Co/Pd films with nanocrystalline and amorphous Co layers. It is shown that variation of the coercive force H-c(t(Co)) as a function of the cobalt layer thickness t(Co) is related to changes in characteristics of the
magnetic
microstructure. The main factor determining changes in the ferromagnetic correlation radius R-f and the average anisotropy [K] of a
magnetic

Аннотация:
The cooperative phenomena revealed in the field and temperature dependences of the magnetization in a system of iron nanoparticles in carbon nanotubes were studied experimentally. The character of the temperature dependences of the magnetization indicates that the ferromagnetic Fe particles in carbon nanotubes are exchange-coupled. In the region where the magnetization approaches saturation, the magnetization curves reveal the power dependence DeltaM similar to H-3/2 typical for a one-dimensional system of exchange-coupled ferromagnetic nanoparticles. of Co-Sm-O alloy films prepared using pulsed plasma deposition is investigated. It is found that Co-Sm-O films in the initial state possess superparamagnetic

Аннотация:
Solid-state synthesis in Ni/Fe/MgO(001) bilayer epitaxial thin films has been studied experimentally. The phase sequence Fe/Ni -- (similar to350degreesC)Ni(3)Fe -- (similar to400degreesC)NiFe -- (similar to550degreesC)gamma(par) is formed as the annealing temperature increases. The crystal structure in the invar region consists of epitaxially intergrown single-crystal blocks consisting of the paramagnetic gamma(par) and ferromagnetic NiFe phases, which satisfy the orientation relationship [100](001)NiFe parallel to [100](001)gamma(par). It has been shown that the nucleation temperatures of the Ni(3)Fe, NiFe, and gamma(par) phases coincide with the temperatures of solid-state transformations in the Ni-Fe system. A many-electron model of the energy band structure of VBO3 and of Fe1 - xVxBO3 solid solutions is proposed with strong electron correlations taken into account. Experimental optical absorption spectra and data on the resistivity are discussed in the framework of the suggested model. Variation in the
magnetic
and electronic
properties
of VBO3 and Fe1 - xVxBO3 under high pressure is predicted. For VBO3, a Mott-Hubbard (insulator-metal) transition is expected in the high-pressure phase. In Fe1 - xVxBO3 solid solutions, a nontrivial variation in the
properties
is predicted, leading to the appearance of a different
magnetic

properties

Аннотация:
The optical absorption spectra of single-crystal ferroborate GdFe3(BO3)(4) and GdFe2.1Ga0.9(BO3)(4) are measured and interpreted. It is found that the absorption edge and the absorption bands A, B, and C observed below the edge are close to those for FeBO3. A many-electron model of the band structure of GdFe3(BO3)(4) is suggested including strong electron correlations between the iron d states. It is shown that GdFe3(BO3)(4) has a charge-transfer dielectric gap. A rise in pressure is predicted to result in a crossover between the high-spin and low-spin states of the Fe ion, collapse of the
magnetic
moment, a weakening of Coulomb correlations, an abrupt reduction in the energy gap, and an insulator-semiconductor transition. (c) 2005 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

The transport
properties
of two-phase composites consisting of a high-temperature superconductor and a nonsuperconducting component with
magnetic
ordering are analyzed. These composites are considered as a network of "superconductor-magnetoactive insulator-superconductor" weak links of the Josephson type. Substituted garnets Y-3(Al1 - x Fe (x) )(5)O-12 (x = 0, ..., 1.0) are used as a magnetoactive component. The composites under investigation contain 92.5 vol % Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 (the high-temperature superconductor) and 7.5 vol % Y-3(Al1 - x Fe (x) )(5)O-12 (x = 0, ..., 1.0). It is shown that an increase in the iron content in the Y-3(Al1 - x Fe (x) )(5)O-12 garnet leads to a reduction of the Josephson coupling strength: the temperature range in which the electrical resistance of the composites is equal to zero is reduced, and the critical current density at a temperature of 4.2 K decreases exponentially. For composites in which the iron content in the Y-3(Al1 - x Fe (x) )(5)O-12 garnet is higher than 0.1, the temperature dependence of the electrical resistance R(T) at temperatures below the transition point T-C of high-temperature superconductor crystallites has a portion in the range T-m -T-C where the resistance R(T) is independent of the transport current and the
magnetic
field strength. Below the temperature T-m , the dependences of the electrical resistance R(T) of the composites are nonlinear functions of the current and involve a considerable contribution from magnetoresistance. This behavior is characteristic of a network of Josephson junctions. The temperature T-m decreases with an increase in the iron content in the Y-3(Al1 - x Fe (x) )(5)O-12 garnet. The appearance of the above feature in the temperature dependences of the electrical resistance R(T) is interpreted as complete suppression of the Josephson coupling in the temperature range above T (m) due to the interaction of supercurrent carrier pairs with
magnetic
moments of iron atoms in the dielectric barriers separating high-temperature superconductor grains.

Crystallochemical analysis of skutterudite-type structures in the BX3, AB(4)X(12), and A B-3' B4O12 compositions (A and B are metals; X = P, As, Sb) has been performed. Probable regions of structure formation are determined, thereby indicating that more than 270 new compounds of the AB4X12 composition can be synthesized.(1)

Solid-phase synthesis of solid solutions in the epitaxial Cu/Ni(001) bilayer film systems of compositions 3Cu: 1Ni, 1Cu: 1Ni, and 1Cu: 3Ni has been studied using the X-ray diffraction methods. The saturation magnetization and the
magnetic
crystallographic anisotropy constant on nickel vary in accordance with the solid solution formation. The initiation temperature of the solid solutions is about 350 A degrees C and is independent of the Ni: Cu layer thickness ratio. The solid-phase synthesis of the solid solutions is presumably attributed to the transport of the Cu atoms to the epitaxial Ni(001) layer. It is found that the solid-phase synthesis in the Cu/Ni bilayer nanofilms and multilayers is determined by the spinodal decomposition in the Cu-Ni system.

Аннотация:
Complex cobalt oxides known as cobaltites are reviewed, including LnCoO(3)-based perovskite-structured rare-earth cobaltites (where Ln is lanthanum or a lanthanide), quasi-two-dimensional and quasi-one-dimensional cobaltites of the types LnCo(2)O(5+delta), La2CoO4, and Ca3Co2O8, and NaxCoO2 center dot yH(2)O superconducting compounds. Key experimental and theoretical results are presented, with emphasis on the interplay between charge, spin, and orbital degrees of freedom. Two problems of specific relevance to cobaltites - the spin state instability of Co3+ ions in LnCoO(3), and the nature of superconductivity in NaxCoO2 center dot yH(2)O - are also given significant attention.
