Аннотация: The magnetic and magneto-optical properties as well as the surface morphology and structure of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 polycrystalline films of different thicknesses have been investigated. It has been shown that films have a rough surface with a characteristic in-plane linear dimension of similar to 30 nm, and crystallites with linear dimensions of 10-20 nm are randomly oriented in the plane. The temperature and field dependences of the magnetization of the films indicate their magnetic inhomogeneity. The magnetic circular dichroism spectra contain a number of bands, one of which at 2.4 eV is explained by the contribution of conduction electrons.

Аннотация: Visiblemagnetic circular dichroism (MCD) in Pr1-xSrxMnO3 with x=0.2 and 0.4was investigated for the first time. Samples for the investigation – polycrystalline films with thickness from 20 to 150 nm were prepared with the dc magnetron sputtering. MCD spectra obtained in the energy interval 1–4 eV at temperatures 100–300 K consist of several maxima with different intensities: very strong one near 3.25–3.4 eV and a broad essentially weaker band near 2 eV. An additional maximum of opposite sign arises in the samples with x = 0.4MCD spectrum at 2.33 eV. Experimental spectra were decomposed to several Gaussian components, and their amplitudes temperature dependences were analyzed. In the case of x = 0.2, all four Gaussian components are characterized by the identical temperature dependence of their amplitudes. In the case of x = 0.4, maxima observed in different spectral intervals demonstrate different temperature dependences of their amplitudes. One more unexpected phenomenon is associated with the different MCD value change in different spectral intervals when coming from x = 0.2 to x = 0.4: high-energy maximum increases more than twice while low-energy maxima intensity stays at that, practically, unchanged.

Аннотация: The electrical resistance of GdxMn1 − xS solid solutions with x = 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2 has been measured at magnetic field H = 0.8 T and at zero magnetic field within the 100 K ˂ T ˂ 550 K temperature range. The magnetoresistance peak is observed above room temperature. On heating, the composition with x = 0.2 exhibits the change of magnetoresistance sign from positive to negative and the magnetoresistance peak near the transition to the magnetically ordered state. The experimental data are interpreted in the framework of the model involving the orbital ordering of electrons and the arising electrical polarization leading to the changes in the spectral density of states for electrons in the vicinity of the chemical potential in the applied magnetic field.

Аннотация: The current-voltage characteristics of the polycrystalline substituted lanthanum manganite (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 have been measured at temperatures close to the metal-insulator transition temperature and at low temperatures. In both cases, the current-voltage characteristics exhibit nonlinear properties that are strongly dependent on the strength of an applied magnetic field. The mechanisms responsible for the nonlinear properties at these temperatures are found to be different: near the metal-insulator transition, the current-voltage characteristics are determined by the phase layering inside granules, while at low temperatures, they are determined by tunneling of carriers through insulating interlayers of the granules.

Аннотация: Hysteresis and relaxation of magnetoresistance and magnetization of substituted (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 lanthanum manganite in a low-temperature region ( 40 K) are investigated. It is shown that at these temperature features of the magnetoresistive effect are determined mainly by spin-dependent tunnelling of carriers via insulating grain boundaries. As was demonstrated previously, the grain boundaries may be antiferromagnetically ordered. Therefore, relaxation of magnetization and resistance is determined by the processes of relative orientation of the magnetic moments of ferromagnetic domains neighbouring the antiferromagnetic boundary of ferromagnetic domains under the action of temperature fluctuations. It is shown that relaxation follows the logarithmic law within the time interval t similar to 10(2)-3x10(3) s. A comparison between time evolutions of the magnetic moment and resistance shows that magnetoresistance and magnetization are related as delta R

Аннотация: The behavior of temperature dependences of electrical resistance and magnetoresistance of polycrystalline substituted lanthanum manganite (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 at low temperatures was thoroughly studied. A broad hysteresis was found in the field dependences of electrical resistance in the low-temperature region. Above 40 K, no hysteresis feature was observed. The temperature T = 40 K corresponds to the temperature of minimum electrical resistance and the temperature T-N to the antiferromagnet-paramagnet phase transition of the material of the intergrain boundaries. In this work we propose a model which explains the observed features of the rho(T) and rho(H) curves at temperatures below T-N by the formation of a network of ferromagnet-antiferromagnet-ferromagnet tunnel contacts. Аннотация: Temperature evolution of the current-voltage characteristics (CVCs) of a single-crystal lanthanum manganite (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 is investigated in a wide (up to 1 A) range of instrumental currents. Effects of a transport current and an applied electric field on the resistance of the material are studied in view of possible implementation of the charge ordering break in dielectric regions occurring due to phase separation in manganites. A negative differential resistance portion observed in the CVCs suggests the presence of a current switching effect. Below the temperature of the metal-dielectric transition in (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3, the hysteresis is observed in the CVC. The detailed analysis of the internal sample heating on the basis of experimental data on thermal conductivity showed, however, that these CVC features can be explained within the concept of non-equilibrium heating of electron gas. Аннотация: The temperature dependences of the intense magnetocaloric effect T (AD)(T, H) and the heat capacity C (p) (T) of the (La(0.4)Eu(0.6))(0.7)Pb(0.3)MnO(3) manganite are directly measured using adiabatic calorimetry. The experimental dependences T (AD)(T) are in satisfactory agreement with those calculated from the data on the behavior of the magnetization. The factors responsible for the absence of an anomaly in the experimental temperature dependence of the heat capacity C (p) (T) in the range of the magnetic phase transition are discussed.

Аннотация: The paper reports on the results of ab initio calculations of the static and dynamic properties of the LaMnO3 crystal with a perovskite structure in the cubic, rhombohedral, and orthorhombic phases. The calculations are performed within the ionic crystal model, which takes into account the deformability and polarizability of the ions. It is revealed that the spectrum of lattice vibrations in the cubic phase contains unstable vibrational modes, which occupy the phase space in the entire Brillouin zone. The eigenvectors of the softest mode at the boundary point R of the Brillouin zone are associated with the displacements of the oxygen ions and correspond to the "rotation" of the MnO6 octahedron. The condensation of one, two, and three components of this mode leads to the tetragonal, orthorhombic, and rhombohedral distortions of the structure. The structural phase transition is described in terms of the local mode approximation with the use of the double perovskite unit cell, in which the MnO6 octahedron is explicitly separated. The parameters of the model Hamiltonian are determined. The static properties are investigated by the Monte Carlo method. The calculated temperature of the phase transition from the cubic phase (9800 K) is considerably higher than the melting temperature of the crystal under investigation. The calculated frequencies of long-wavelength lattice vibrations in the experimentally observed orthorhombic and rhombohedral phases are in reasonable agreement with experimental data.
