Аннотация: By means of inelastic neutron scattering, we show that there are two non-degenerate branches of magnetic excitations in Bi2CuO4. The polarization of the magnons is obtained from the magnetic field dependence of the dynamical susceptibility and by using polarization analysis.

Аннотация: The local changes produced in the electronic structure and their effect on the physical properties of the superconducting and normal phases when zinc and nickel are substituted for copper are examined on the basis of a multiband p-d model. It is shown that strong electronic correlations suppress the S = 1 configuration of Ni2+ and cause the superposition of the S = 1/2 and S = 0 states of nickel. The change in the density of states in p- and n-type systems is studied, and the peculiarity of Zn impurity for p- type systems and Ni impurity for n-type systems is shown. The universal dependence of the T-c on the residual resistance in lightly doped superconductors and deviations from it in optimally doped systems are discussed. Аннотация: A study is reported of the structural, magnetic, and magneto-optic properties of Mn/Dy/Bi films obtained by multilayer technology. The maximum Kerr rotation angle in such films is shown to be theta(k) = 2.25 degrees. Possible reasons for such a large Kerr effect enhancement are considered, namely, an increase in the 6p - 3d transition probability caused by symmetry distortion, polarization of the Bi6p band, and a change in the density of states near the Fermi level. The latter reason has been analyzed by simulating the electronic structure of Mn/Dy/Bi through superposition of Dy levels on the MnBi band structure. This approach has revealed possible additional transitions which may be induced by the presence of a Dy buffer and could contribute to the Kerr magneto-optic effect. Аннотация: The crystallographic and group theoretical analysis of the structural phase transitions in perovskite and perovskite-like crystals is reviewed. We include ABX(3) perovskites and their relative crystals of ReO3 type (G(0) = O-h(1)), elpasolites, cryolites and their relatives (G(0) = O-h(5)) layered crystals of TIAIF(4) series (G(0) = D-4h(1)), Aurivillius and Ruddlesden-Popper series (G(0) = D-4h(17)). The structures in their initial phase G(0) often contain n layers (n = 1, 2,3) of vertex linked octahedra. The distorted phases produced by one kind of tilt and by superposition of tilts in the slabs are enumerated. Most of the tilts correspond to symmetry changes, which can be associated to definite librational lattice modes irreducible representations of the G(0) group. The softening of modes associated to the PT has been found experimentally in many perovskites, elpasolites and layered crystals with n = 1. In contrast, no such soft modes have been found yet for even-layered (n = 2) crystals. Examples of successive phase transitions due to the superposition of tilts in these types of crystals have been collected.

Аннотация: Faraday rotation (FR) spectral, field, and temperature dependencies in oxide glasses with small additions of paramagnetic elements are investigated. Formation of ferrite nanoparticles in amorphous glass matrices is revealed by X-ray diffraction. Particles have crystal structure similar to spinel structure, their dimensions are about 10-24 nm. The FR field dependencies are typical for ferrimagnetic or superparamagnetic substances depending on particle size. Strong FR increase at the samples cooling (more than twice for some samples) in the temperature interval 105-273 K is observed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The spectrum of the two-particle spin-singlet (DeltaS(z) = 0, +/-1) excitations of a weakly coupled antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 alternating (J(1) +/- delta) chain is calculated using a mean-field approximation for the interchain exchange (J(2)) by the quantum Monte Carlo method. The bandwidth change of these excitations, the mass gaps in the singlet-singlet excitation spectrum, the top boundaries of the bands and the velocities of these excitations are estimated as functions of the alternating bond delta. The temperatures at which the singlet gaps close are determined.

Аннотация: The values of saturation magnetization M-s, exchange coupling constant A, local magnetic anisotropy field H-a , random anisotropy correlation radius R-c, and coercive force H-c were independently measured for multilayer Co/Pd films with nanocrystalline and amorphous Co layers. It is shown that variation of the coercive force H-c(t(Co)) as a function of the cobalt layer thickness t(Co) is related to changes in characteristics of the magnetic microstructure. The main factor determining changes in the ferromagnetic correlation radius R-f and the average anisotropy [K] of a magnetic block in multilayer Co/Pd films is variation of exchange coupling constant A(t(Co)). Аннотация: The cooperative phenomena revealed in the field and temperature dependences of the magnetization in a system of iron nanoparticles in carbon nanotubes were studied experimentally. The character of the temperature dependences of the magnetization indicates that the ferromagnetic Fe particles in carbon nanotubes are exchange-coupled. In the region where the magnetization approaches saturation, the magnetization curves reveal the power dependence DeltaM similar to H-3/2 typical for a one-dimensional system of exchange-coupled ferromagnetic nanoparticles.
