Аннотация: We search for anomalous normal and superconductive behavior in the two-band Hubbard model with one narrow band. We analyze the influence of the electron–polaron effect and the Altshuler–Aronov effect on effective mass enhancement and scattering times of heavy and light components in the clean case. We find anomalous behavior of resistivity at high temperatures TW∗hT W_{h}. *} both in 3D and 2D situations. The SC instability in the model is governed by an enhanced Kohn–Luttinger effect for p-wave pairing of heavy electrons via polarization of light electrons.

Аннотация: A series of iso-structural eulytite-type (Ba,Sr)(3)Lu(PO4)(3):Eu2+ solid-solution phosphors with different Sr/Ba ratios were synthesized by a solid-state reaction. Crystal structures of (Ba,Sr)(3)Lu(PO4)(3):Eu2+ were resolved by the Rietveld method, which shows an eulytite-type cubic Bi-4(SiO4)(3) structure with cations disordered in a single C-3 site while the oxygen atoms were distributed over two partially occupied sites. Аннотация: Complexes of zigzag-type carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with transition metal atoms, scandium and titanium, were studied. It was demonstrated that the energy of binding of both atoms with a carbon surface decreases whereas the rate of diffusion along the surface increases with increasing nanotube diameter. The rate constant of migration of scandium atoms over a CNT surface are several orders of magnitude higher than that for titanium atoms, because the CNT surface-Sc atom binding energy is substantially lower.

Аннотация: Ceramic volumetric composites xLa(0.7)Pb(0.3)MnO(3)-(1-x)PbTiO3 (x = 0.18 and 0.85) were prepared. X-ray investigations have shown that rather low sintering temperature (800 degrees C) has allowed us to avoid the reaction and interdiffusion between two initial phases. Heat capacity, thermal expansion, and intensive magnetocaloric effect were measured in a wide temperature range. The sample composition has a low influence on temperatures of the ferromagnetic and ferroelectric phase transitions in composites. Electro- and barocaloric effects were determined by analysis in the framework of thermodynamic theory, electric equation of state, Maxwell relationships, and entropy-temperature-pressure phase diagram. Multicaloric efficiency of composites is discussed and compared with that of initial La0.7Pb0.3MnO3 and PbTiO3 compounds. Variation of a relationship between components can significantly increase both barocaloric and magnetocaloric efficiency of compositional material due to the mechanical stress appearing between grains of different ferroic phases under magnetic field.

Аннотация: Spinterface between fullerene C60 and La0 7Sr0 3MnO3 (LSMO) was studied by means of density functional theory. Co-existence of many different configurations was shown, and probabilities of their appearance were estimated. Dependence of composite properties on configuration and temperature was also investigated. Key role of transition metal atoms in both binding between composite compartments and magnetic ordering in C60 molecule was discussed. The latter was suggested to be responsible for spin-polarized charge transport while overall magnetic moment of fullerene molecule is relatively small. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: The temperature dependence of the static magnetization of polycrystalline rare-earth cobaltites La1−xGdxCoO3−δ (x=0.2, 0.5, 1) was measured in a wide temperature range up to 900 K. The contribution from Co3+ ions at high temperatures to the magnetic susceptibility was obtained. The Birch–Murnaghan equation and the magnetic date were used to determine the spin gap Δ S as the difference between the energies of high-spin and low-spin states in these compounds.

Аннотация: In this study, a new approach to identify the freeze/thaw states of tundra topsoil was developed based on the polarization ratio index, which was calculated from the reflectivity values of soil. Reflectivity was estimated from radiometric measurements of the SMAP satellite using the values of vertical polarization brightness temperature measured by the AMSR-2 radiometer at 6.9 GHz; this value was used to characterize the effective temperature of the soil. The proposed approach was tested using weather station data on soil surface temperatures for six test sites located in the North Slope of Alaska and the Yamal Peninsula collected from April 2015 to June 2018. The modified polarization ratio index, calculated from values of reflectivity rather than from brightness temperatures, significantly improved the possibility of determining the reference values of the index in the winter and in the summer. During testing, the modified index showed a good correlation between the dates of transition through the threshold level and soil temperature transition through 0ºC, as recorded at meteorological stations.

Аннотация: Experimental measurements of the dielectric permittivity and equivalent conductivity of sandy-clayey samples (a mixture of river sand with bentonite or kaolin) saturated with salt-solution-diesel-fuel emulsions were performed in the frequency range from 10 kHz to 1 GHz at temperatures of 25-65 °C. It is shown that when the content of the salt solution in the saturating fluid does not exceed 10%, the dielectric permittivity in the frequency range from 1 MHz to 1 GHz depends little on the mineral composition of the sample and on the concentration of the saturating solution. When the portion of water is 33.3% or higher, increasing the concentration of the salt solution leads to an increase in the equivalent conductivity and the real part of the complex dielectric permittivity. Using the refractive model of the complex dielectric permittivity, we have estimated the dielectric properties of bound water, which depend on temperature and the type of clay (bentonite or kaolin) in the sand-clay mixture but are independent of the water saturation and the amount of clay in the sample.

Аннотация: In the present work we report band structure calculations for the high-temperature superconductor Nd2-xCexCuO4 in the regime of strong electronic correlations within an LDA + GTB method, which combines the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized tight-binding method (GTB). The two mechanisms of band structure doping dependence were taken into account. Namely, the one-electron mechanism provided by the doping dependence of the crystal structure, and the many-body mechanism provided by the strong renormalization of the fermionic quasiparticles due to the large on-site Coulomb repulsion. We have shown that, in the antiferromagnetic and in the strongly correlated paramagnetic phases of the underdoped cuprates, the main contribution to the doping evolution of the band structure and Fermi surface comes from the many-body mechanism.

Аннотация: This paper reports on a study of multilayer Co/Cu films with an effective thickness of the Co layer of similar to 3.5 , which were prepared by magnetron sputtering. The samples prepared have been found to have a metastable multiphase structure. An analysis of the data obtained by structural and, primarily, by magnetic methods has revealed that the main phases are the Co/Cu supersaturated solid solution (alloy) with a Co concentration of about 30 at %, the superparamagnetic phase, and the paramagnetic phase, which is accounted for by the presence of small (a few atoms at most) Co clusters embedded in the Cu matrix. A clearly pronounced maximum in the temperature dependences of the low-field magnetoresistance has been found, which is associated with the temperature of the magnetic phase transition of the supersaturated Co-Cu alloy.

Аннотация: The structural, magnetic, electrical, and dilatation properties of the rare-earth NdCoO3 and SmCoO3 cobaltites were investigated. Their comparative analysis was carried out and the effect of multiplicity fluctuations on physical properties of the studied cobaltites was considered. Correlations between the spin state change of cobalt ions and the temperature dependence anomalies of the lattice parameters, magnetic susceptibility, volume thermal expansion coefficient, and electrical resistance have been revealed. A comparison of the results with well-studied GdCoO3 allows one to single out both the general tendencies inherent in all rare-earth cobaltites taking into account the lanthanide contraction and peculiar properties of the samples containing Nd and Sm.

Аннотация: The effects of a fluorine-containing compound (4,4′-difluorobenzophenone; DF) on the electro-optical and dielectric properties of polymer-stabilized blue phase (PSBP) liquid crystals were investigated. When a PSBP cell was driven by an in-plane electric field, the addition of DF up to 2.7 wt% effectively reduced the operation voltage by ~ 30%. Further inspection by dielectric spectroscopy indicated that the ionic concentration in PSBP decreased with increasing loading of DF. This finding can be ascribed to the complexation of impurity ions near the ketone group and carbon–fluorine bonds of the DF compound that restrained the ion transport after photopolymerization. As a result, the DF compound can be regarded as a superior ion-suppressor, enabling the reduction in the ionic effect and, in turn, the promotion of the electro-optical response of a PSBP.

Аннотация: A structure formed in nanocrystalline iron-carbon films exposed to an electron beam was studied. Explosive crystallization (EC) with the formation of dendrite and cellular-dendritic instabilities at a rate of up to 1 cm/s was observed. It was shown that the dependence between the growth rate of dendrite branches (or cells) during EC and the rounding radius of dendrite branch tips can be approximately described by equations used to calculate the crystal growth in supercooled melts. To explain the EC mechanism, a model of a liquid zone formed at the crystallization front was used. It was shown that the liquid zone arises due to energy accumulated in the film in the nanocrystalline state. It was assumed that this energy was accumulated due to the energy of elastic stresses. Аннотация: NdFe3(BO3)4 and NdGa3(BO3)4 crystals are of great interest due to their physical properties. For example, NdFe3(BO3)4 crystal demonstrates magnetodielectric and magnetopiezoelectric effects, and NdGa3(BO3)4 crystal possesses luminescent and nonlinear optical properties. In this work, the properties of these materials are calculated by the plane-wave pseudo-potential method based on density functional theory. The structures of the crystals are optimized. The electronic structure of NdFe3(BO3)4 and NdGa3(BO3)4 are calculated.

Аннотация: Phosphor-converted white LEDs rely on combining a blue-emitting InGaN chip with yellow and red-emitting luminescent materials. The discovery of cyan-emitting (470–500 nm) phosphors is a challenge to compensate for the spectral gap and produce full-spectrum white light. Na0.5K0.5Li3SiO4:Eu2+ (NKLSO:Eu2+) phosphor was developed with impressive properties, providing cyan emission at 486 nm with a narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) of only 20.7 nm, and good thermal stability with an integrated emission loss of only 7% at 150 °C. The ultra-narrow-band cyan emission results from the high-symmetry cation sites, leading to almost ideal cubic coordination for UCr4C4-type compounds. NKLSO:Eu2+ phosphor allows the valley between the blue and yellow emission peaks in the white LED device to be filled, and the color-rendering index can be enhanced from 86 to 95.2, suggesting great applications in full-spectrum white LEDs.

Аннотация: Zero field splitting (ZFS) of Gd3+ impurity in ScF3 is studied by electron paramagnetic resonance at 77 and 295 K. ZFS parameter b4 values obtained from angular dependence simulations show that regardless of negative thermal expansion in ScF3 temperature dependence of |b4| is similar to other cubic fluoroperovskites. Our analysis of ZFS parameters indicates that the local structure of Gd3+ centres expands positively with temperature. © 2015 The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Аннотация: Two methods for stabilizing the two-hole B-3(1g) state as the ground state instead of the Zhang-Rice singlet are determined on the basis of an orthogonal cellular basis for a realistic multiband pd model of a CuO2 layer and the dispersion relations for the valence band top in undoped and doped cases are calculated. In the undoped case, aside from the valence band, qualitatively corresponding to the experimental ARPES data for Sr2CuO2Cl2 and the results obtained on the basis of the t-t'-J model, the calculations give a zero-dispersion virtual level at the valence band top itself. Because of the zero amplitude of transitions forming the virtual level the response corresponding to it is absent in the spectral density function. In consequence, the experimental ARPES data do not reproduce its presence in this antiferromagnetic undoped dielectric. A calculation of the doped case showed that the virtual level transforms into an impurity-type band and acquires dispersion on account of the nonzero occupation number of the two-hole states and therefore should be detected in ARPES experiments as a high-energy peak in the spectral density. The computed dispersion dependence for the valence band top is identical to the dispersion obtained by the Monte Carlo method, and the ARPES data for optimally doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 + delta samples. The data obtained also make it possible to explain the presence of an energy pseudogap at the symmetric X point of the Brillouin band of HTSC compounds. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The influence of quasilocal vibrations on the far-infrared spectra of glasses is investigated under the supposition that the quasilocal vibrations are directly inactive in the attenuation. It is shown that taking into account phonon-quasilocal-vibration coupling and both medium- and short-range structure of the inhomogeneities of a photon-phonon coupling parameter can give rise to an attenuation curve similar to one observed for a-SiO2 and related materials.

Аннотация: In antiferromagnetic (AFM) nanoparticles, an additional ferromagnetic phase forms and leads to the appearance in AFM nanoparticles of a noncompensated magnetic moment and the magnetic properties typical of common FM nanoparticles. In this work, to reveal the regularities and differences of the dynamic magnetization switching in FM and AFM nanoparticles, the typical representatives of such materials are studied: CoFe2O4 and NiO nanoparticles with average sizes 6 and 8 nm, respectively. The high fields of the irreversible behavior of the magnetizations of these samples determine the necessity of using strong pulsed fields (amplitude to 130 kOe) to eliminate the effect of the partial hysteresis loop when studying the dynamic magnetic hysteresis. For both types of the samples, coercive force HC at the dynamic magnetization switching is markedly higher than HC at quasi-static conditions. HC increases as the pulse duration τP decreases and the maximum applied field H0 increases. The dependence of HC on field variation rate dH/dt = H0/2τP is a unambiguous function for CoFe2O4 nanoparticles, and it is precisely such a behavior is expected from a system of single-domain FM nanoparticles. At the same time, for AFM NiO nanoparticles, the coercive force is no longer an unambiguous function of dH/dt, and the value of applied field H0 influences more substantially. Such a difference in the behaviors of FM and AFM nanoparticles is caused by the interaction of the FM subsystem and the AFM “core” inside AFM nanoparticles. This circumstance should be taken into account when developing the theory of dynamic hysteresis of the AFM nanoparticles and also to take into account their practical application.
