Ca2Al3O6 -- Structure -- Spectroscopic properties
Аннотация: The Ca2A13O6F oxyfluoride was recently proposed as an efficient host for the luminescence materials; however the crystal structure remains to be unknown. We present a combined structural analysis on the powder sample of Ca2Al3O6F using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman and Infrared spectroscopy technique. XRD studies showed that the structure of crystallized in the rhombohedral system, R3 space group. The crystal structure consists of almost ideal AlO4 tetrahedrons, linked through corners, Ca ions in voids, and F disordered to 18 sites around Ca2 ion. Calculated Raman and infrared phonon modes agree qualitatively well with the experimental data. Lattice dynamics simulation based on the simplified version of the Born-Karman potential model. Calculations shows that line at 539 cm[[p]]-1[[/p]](A[[d]]g[[/d]]) corresponds to vibrational mode of six-niembered AlO4 tetrabedwns ring, and line at 573 cm[[p]]-1[[/p]](A[[d]]g[[/d]]) corresponds to the full symmetric vibration of fluorine atoms on ab crystal plane.

Аннотация: Tuning and optimizing luminescent properties of oxonitridosilicates phosphors are important for white light-emitting diode (WLED) applications. To improve the color rendering index, correlated color temperature and thermal stability of layer-structured MSi2O2N2:Eu (M = Sr, Ba) phosphors, cation substitutions have been used to adjust their luminescent properties. However, the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. In this research, a series of (Sr1-xBax)Si2O2N2:Eu (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) compounds were prepared by solid-state reaction, after which systematic emission variations were investigated. The crystal structures of (Sr1-xBax)Si2O2N2:Eu (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) are nominally divided into three sections, namely, Phase 1 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.65), Phase 2 (0.65 x 0.80), and Phase 3 (0.80 ≤ x ≤ 1) based on the X-ray diffraction measurements. These experimental results are further confirmed by optimizing the crystal structure data with first-principle calculations. Continuous luminescence adjustments from green to yellow are observed in Phase 1 with gradual replacement of Sr2+ with Ba2+, and the abnormal redshift is clarified through extended X-ray absorption fine structure analysis. Sr(Eu)-O/N bond length shrinkage in local structure causes the redshift emission, and the corresponding luminescence mechanism is proposed. Controllable luminescence in Phase 2 (from blue to white) and Phase 3 (from cyan to yellowish green) are observed. Based on the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and selected area electron diffraction analysis, the two kinds of luminescence tuning are attributed to phase segregation. This study serves as a guide in developing oxonitride luminescent materials with controllable optical properties based on variations in local coordination environments through cation substitutions.

Аннотация: We present a combined structural analysis on the powder of the Ca2Al3O6F phase using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy techniques. The crystal structure of Ca2Al3O6F has been refined in the rhombohedral system, R space group, a = 17.3237(7) Å, c = 7.00017(4) Å, V = 1819.38(2) Å3, Z = 6. The Ca2Al3O6F phase consists of almost ideal AlO4 tetrahedrons linked through corners, Ca2+ ions in voids, and F− ions disordered over 6 sites around the Ca2 ion. The two different Ca sites have also been verified by the photoluminescence spectrum and decay curves using Eu2+ as the probe ion substituted onto the Ca2+ sites. A lattice dynamics simulation based on the simplified version of the Born–Karman potential model has been produced. Calculated Raman phonon modes agree qualitatively well with the experimental data. The calculations show that the strong line at 538 cm−1 (Ag) corresponds to the vibrational mode of a six-membered AlO4 tetrahedrons ring, and the line at 572 cm−1 (Ag) corresponds to the full symmetric vibration of fluorine atoms in the ab crystal plane.

Аннотация: New compound discovery is of interest in the field of inorganic solid-state chemistry. In this work, a whitlockite-type structure Sr1.75Ca1.25(PO4)2 newly found by composition design in the Sr3(PO4)2–Ca3(PO4)2 join was reported. Crystal structure and luminescence properties of Sr1.75Ca1.25(PO4)2:Eu2+ were investigated, and the yellow-emitting phosphor was further employed in fabricating near-ultraviolet-pumped white light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs). The structure and crystallographic site occupancy of Eu2+ in the host were identified via X-ray powder diffraction refinement using Rietveld method. The Sr1.75Ca1.25(PO4)2:Eu2+ phosphors absorb in the UV–vis spectral region of 250–430 nm and exhibit an intense asymmetric broadband emission peaking at 518 nm under λex = 365 nm which is ascribed to the 5d–4f allowed transition of Eu2+. The luminescence properties and mechanism are also investigated as a function of Eu2+ concentration. A white LED device which is obtained by combining a 370 nm UV chip with commercial blue phosphor and the present yellow phosphor has been fabricated and exhibit good application properties.

Аннотация: The Eu3+-doped red-orange emitting phosphor of tellurite glass 0.25Li2O–0.20Y2O3–0.5TeO2–0.05Eu2O3 has been synthesized by the melt quenching method. The amorphous nature of the glass has been verified by XRD measurements. The photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra, the luminescence decay curves have been investigated for the composition. The phosphor can be efficiently excited by the near UV light to realize the intense narrow red emission line (611 nm) corresponding to forced electric dipole transition 5D0 → 7F2 of Eu3+ ions. The Li2O–Y2O3–TeO2:Eu3+glass phosphor is a potential red-orange emitting candidate for the application in WLEDs.

Аннотация: A new blue-emitting phosphor Li3Sc2(PO4)3:Eu2+ was synthesized by a high temperature solid-state reaction method, and the crystal structure and photoluminescence properties were investigated in detail. The preferred crystallographic position of the Eu2+ ions in the Li3Sc2(PO4)3 host were determined from the structural analysis and spectroscopic properties. The as-prepared phosphor gave an intense blue emission band centered at 439 nm with the CIE coordinate of (0.1540, 0.0317) upon the excitation of the near ultraviolet light. The critical quenching concentration of Eu2+ in Li3Sc2(PO4)3:Eu2+ was about 15 mol%, and the corresponding concentration quenching mechanism was verified to be the dipole-quadrupole interaction. The fluorescence lifetime of Eu2+ emission and the thermal stable luminescence property have been investigated. Li3Sc2(PO4)3:Eu2+ was found to be a promising candidate as a blue-emitting n-UV convertible phosphor for the application in white light emitting diodes (w-LEDs).

Аннотация: Cation substitution dependent tunable bimodal photoluminescence behavior was observed in the Ca3-xSrx(PO4)2:Eu2+ (0 ≤ x ≤ 2) solid solution phosphors. The Rietveld refinements verified the phase purity and whitlockite type crystal structure of the solid solutions. The tunable photoluminescence evolution was studied as a function of strontium content, over the composition range 0.1 ≤ x ≤ 2. In addition to the emission band peak at 416 nm in Ca3(PO4)2:Eu2+, the substitution of Ca2+ by Sr2+ induced the emerging broad-band peak at 493-532 nm. A dramatic red shift of the emission peak located in the green-yellow region was observed on an increase of x in the samples with 0.75 ≤ x ≤ 2.00. The two emission bands could be related to the EuOn-Ca9 and EuOn-Ca9-xSrx emitting blocks, respectively. The values for the two kinds of emitting blocks in the solid solutions can be fitted well with the observed intensity evolution of the two emission peaks.

Аннотация: A novel blue-emitting double-phosphate phosphor Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2):Eu2+ was synthesized by the sol-gel method, and the structure and luminescence properties were investigated in detail. The crystal structure and chemical composition of Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2) matrix was analyzed and determined based on Rietveld refinements and phase and chemical composition analysis. The composition-optimized Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2):Eu2+ exhibited strong blue light, peaking at 462 nm upon excitation at 365 nm with the CIE coordinates of (0.139, 0.091). The quenching concentration of Eu2+ in the Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2) phase was about 0.01 and attributed to the dipole-quadrupole interaction. The thermally stable luminescence properties, fluorescence decay curves and diffuse reflectance spectra of Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2):Eu2+ phosphors are also discussed, all of which indicate that the Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2):Eu2+ phosphor is a promising phosphor for application in white-light UV LEDs.

Аннотация: Blue-emitting CaSrSiO4:Ce3+,Li+ phosphors were prepared by a high temperature solid-state method, and the effect of substituting Al3+ for Si4+ in CaSrSiO4:Ce3+,Li+ has been studied. Crystal structures of the as-prepared Ca1−ySr1−ySi1−xAlxO4:yCe3+,yLi+ phosphors were resolved by the Rietveld method, which suggested that all the samples belonged to the orthorhombic symmetry (Pnma) group of α-CaSrSiO4. The photoluminescence (PL) emission and excitation spectra, the lifetime, and the effect of Al3+ concentration on the PL properties were investigated in detail. The emission peaks of the CaSrSi1−xAlxO4:Ce3+,Li+ (x = 0–0.10) phosphors were red-shifted from 452 to 472 nm with increasing Al/Si ratio. The red-shift of the Ce3+ emission is ascribed to the polyhedra distortion of the cations, originating from the variation in the neighboring [(Si,Al)O4] polyhedra, and the detailed mechanism has been discussed.

Аннотация: In this study, the Ba3Eu(PO4)3 and Sr3Eu(PO4)3 compounds were synthesized and the crystal structures were determined for the first time by Rietveld refinement using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. Ba3Eu(PO4)3 crystallizes in cubic space group I3d, with cell parameters of a = 10.47996(9) Å, V = 1151.01(3) Å3 and Z = 4; Ba2+ and Eu3+ occupy the same site with partial occupancies of 3/4 and 1/4, respectively. Besides, in this structure, there exists two distorted kinds of the PO4 polyhedra orientation. Sr3Eu(PO4)3 is isostructural to Ba3Eu(PO4)3 and has much smaller cell parameters of a = 10.1203(2) Å, V = 1036.52(5) Å3. The bandgaps of Ba3Eu(PO4)3 and Sr3Eu(PO4)3 are determined to be 4.091 eV and 3.987 eV, respectively, based on the UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectra. The photoluminescence measurements reveal that, upon 396 nm n-UV light excitation, Ba3Eu(PO4)3 and Sr3Eu(PO4)3 exhibit orange-red emission with two main peaks at 596 nm and prevailing 613 nm, corresponding to the 5D0 → 7F1 and 5D0 → 7F2 transitions of Eu3+, respectively. The dynamic disordering in the crystal structures contributes to the broadening of the luminescence spectra. The electronic structure of the phosphates was calculated by the first-principles method. The analysis elucidats that the band structures are mainly governed by the orbits of phosphorus, oxygen and europium, and the sharp peaks of the europium f-orbit occur at the top of the valence bands.

Аннотация: Cyan-emitting LiBaBO3:Eu2+ phosphor was synthesized by solid-state reaction at 800 °C. Structure refinement by Rietveld method reveals that LiBaBO3 crystallizes in a monoclinic cell, space groups P21/c or P21/n. Upon 365 nm excitation, LiBaBO3:Eu2+ shows a symmetric emission band peaking at 496 nm with full-width at half-maximum of 80 nm; when monitoring at 496 nm, a broad excitation band in the UV region (250–420 nm) is observed. The luminescence property of LiBaBO3:Eu2+ is considerably different from LiSrBO3:Eu2+ which holds the same space group. The local structures of the two hosts are compared to explain the different behaviors of Eu2+.

Аннотация: Garnet-type compound Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 and Cr3+-doped or Cr3+/Bi3+ codped Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 phosphors were prepared by a solid-state reaction. The crystal structure of Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 host was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and further determined by the Rietveld refinement. Near-infrared (NIR) photoluminescence (PL) and long-lasting phosphorescence (LLP) emission can be observed from the Cr3+-doped Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 sample, and the enhanced NIR PL emission intensity and LLP decay time can be realized in Cr3+/Bi3+ codped samples. The optimum concentration of Cr3+ in Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 phosphor was about 6 mol%, and optimum Bi3+ concentration induced the energy-transfer (ET) process between Bi3+ and Cr3+ ions was about 30 mol%. Under different excitation wavelength from 280 to 453 nm, all the samples exhibit a broadband emission peaking at 739 nm and the intensity of NIR emission increases owing to the ET behavior from Bi3+ to Cr3+ ions. The critical ET distance has been calculated by the concentration-quenching method. The thermally stable luminescence properties were also studied and the introduction of Bi3+ can also improve the thermal stability of the NIR emission.

Аннотация: A case of phosphor is reported where the cooling rate parameter significantly influences the luminescence property. By quenching the sample after the higherature solid-state reaction at 1250°C, we successfully prepared the Eu2+-doped α form Ca3(PO4)2 (α-TCP:Eu2+) as a new kind of bright cyan-emitting phosphor. The unusual emission color variation (from cyan to blue) depends on the cooling rate after sintering and Eu2+ doping level as it was observed in the TCP-based phosphors. By the Rietveld analysis, it is revealed that the cyan- and blue-emitting phosphors are two different TCP forms crystallizing in the monoclinic (space group P21/a, α-TCP) and the rhombohedral structure (space group R3c, β-TCP), respectively. Upon 365 nm UV light excitation, α-TCP:Eu2+ exhibits an asymmetric broad-band cyan emission peaking at 480 nm, while β-TCP:Eu2+ displays a relatively narrow-band blue emission peaking at 416 nm. The Eu2+-doping in Ca3(PO4)2 shifts the upper temperature limit of the stable structural range of β form from 1125°C to ≥1250°C. Moreover, the crystal structures of α/β-TCP:Eu2+ were compared in the aspects of compactness and cation site sets. The emission thermal stability of α/β-TCP:Eu2+ was comparatively characterized and the difference was related to the specific host structural features. © 2015 The American Ceramic Society.

Аннотация: The union of structural and spectroscopic modeling can accelerate the discovery and improvement of phosphor materials if guided by an appropriate principle. Herein, we describe the concept of chemical unit cosubstitution as one such potential design scheme. We corroborate this strategy experimentally and computationally by applying it to the Ca2(Al1-xMgx)(Al1-xSi1+x)O7:Eu2+ solid solution phosphor. The cosubstitution is shown to be restricted to tetrahedral sites, which enables the tuning of luminescent properties. The emission peaks shift from 513 to 538 nm with a decreasing Stokes shift, which has been simulated by a crystal-field model. The correlation between the 5d crystal-field splitting of Eu2+ ions and the local geometry structure of the substituted sites is also revealed. Moreover, an energy decrease of the electron-phonon coupling effect is explained on the basis of the configurational coordinate model. © 2015 American Chemical Society.

Аннотация: Novel self-activated yellow-emitting BaLuAlxZn4-xO7-(1-x)/2 photoluminescent materials were investigated by a combined experimental and theoretical analysis. The effects of Al/Zn composition modulation, calcination atmosphere and temperature on the crystal structure and photoluminescence properties have been studied via engineering oxygen vacancies. Accordingly, BaLuAl0.91Zn3.09O7 prepared in an air atmosphere was found to be the stable crystalline phase with optimal oxygen content and gave a broad yellow emission band with a maximum at 528 nm. The self-activated luminescence mechanism is ascribed to the O-vacancies based on the density functional theory (DFT) calculation. A theoretical model originating from the designed oxygen vacancies has been proposed in order to determine the influence of O-vacancies on the band structure and self-activated luminescence. Therefore, the appearance of a new local energy level in the band gap will cause the wide-band optical transitions in the studied BaLuAlxZn4-xO7-(1-x)/2 materials.

Аннотация: The Lu2.98Ce0.01Y0.01Al5O12 and Y2.99Ce0.01Al5O12 phosphors were synthesized by solid state reaction at temperature 1623 K and pressure 1.5 × 107 Pa in (95% N2 + 5% H2) atmosphere. Under the conditions, the compounds crystallize in the form of isolated euhedral partly faceted microcrystals ∼19 μm in size. The crystal structures of the Lu2.98Ce0.01Y0.01Al5O12 and Y2.99Ce0.01Al5O12 garnets have been obtained by Rietveld analysis. The photoluminescence (PL) and X-ray excited luminescence (XL) spectra obtained at room temperature indicate broad asymmetric bands with maxima near 519 and 540 nm for Y2.99Ce0.01Al5O12 and Lu2.98Ce0.01Y0.01Al5O12, respectively. The light source was fabricated using the powder Lu2.98Ce0.01Y0.01Al5O12 phosphor and commercial blue-emitting n-UV LED chips (λex = 450 nm). It is found that the CIE chromaticity coordinates are (x = 0.388, y = 0.563) with the warm white light emission correlated color temperature (CCT) of 6400 K and good luminous efficiency of 110 lm/W. © 2015 American Chemical Society.

Аннотация: Greenish-yellow emitting microcrystalline Ca6Ba(PO4)4O:Eu2+ phosphor was successfully prepared by a solution-precipitation assisted high temperature reaction method. Phase structure, morphology and/or luminescence properties of the precursor and the as-prepared phosphors were characterized. The phase-pure Ca6Ba(PO4)4O:Eu2+ phosphors were obtained with smooth grain surface and particle size of 2–8 μm. Ca6Ba(PO4)4O:Eu2+ exhibits bright greenish-yellow color emission with its maximum at 540 nm upon UV-blue light excitation. The maximum position of the broad emission band is independent on the calcination temperature. The emission intensity increases with increasing calcination temperature due to improved crystallinity. Besides, the presence of two Eu2+ emission centers in the Ca6Ba(PO4)4O crystal lattice was confirmed and the coordination effects are considered concerning the roles of isolated O atoms and those from the PO4 tetrahedra.

Аннотация: Blue-emitting BaBPO5:xEu2+ phosphors were prepared by a high-temperature solid-state reaction route. The crystal phase, luminescence properties, lifetime, and thermal stability were investigated, respectively. The phase analysis indicated that BaBPO5 crystallize with the structure of stillwellite-type compounds. Under the excitation at 310 nm, the phosphor exhibited an asymmetric broad-band blue emission with peak at 410 nm, which was ascribed to the 4f-5d transition of Eu2+. It was further calculated that the dipole-dipole interactions were responsible for a concentration quenching effect in BaBPO5:xEu2+ phosphors at x = 0.08. The lifetime decreased with the increasing concentration of Eu2+ ions. The temperature-dependent emission spectra indicated an excellent thermal stability of the BaBPO5:0.08Eu2+ samples. Surface morphology and CIE coordinate were also investigated. All the properties assessed indicated that the developed blue-emitting BaBPO5:Eu2+ phosphor is a good candidate for application in white-light emitting diodes. © 2016 by American Scientific Publishers.
