Аннотация: The morphology and magnetic properties as well as adsorption capacity and catalytic activity of Fe3O4-Ag nanoparticles synthesized by the solvothermal method were studied in dependence on the duration of the thermolysis process (3, 6, and 8 h). X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy measurements showed that the morphology of nanoparticles changed strongly as the duration of thermolysis increased. At 6 and 8 h duration, Fe3O4 nanocrystals grow and assemble into porous spherical globules with an Ag core (samples 2 and 3). These samples demonstrate high magnetization value and very low coercivity. The adsorption capacity of nanoparticles was studied with respect to two organic dyes: cationic methylene blue (MB) and anionic Congo red (CR). The particles showed preferential adsorption of the cationic dye. High catalytic activity towards four dyes: MB, methyl orange (MO), CR, and Rhodamine C (RhC) at the presence of NaBH4 is the remarkable property of these samples. The rate constant of the catalytic reaction was 1.4 min−1. Simultaneous exposure of CR and MO dyes to nanoparticles and NaBH4 caused their irreversible 100 % degradation while in the case of MB and RhC, a transition to their leuco form occurred.

Аннотация: Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized with the co-precipitation method and functionalized with NH2 amino-groups. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray, FT-IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The magnetic core of all the nanoparticles was shown to be nanocrystalline with the crystal parameters corresponding only to the Fe3O4 phase covered with a homogeneous amorphous silica (SiO2) shell of about 6 nm in thickness. The FT-IR spectra confirmed the appearance of chemical bonds at amino functionalization. The magnetic measurements revealed unusually high saturation magnetization of the initial Fe3O4 nanoparticles, which was presumably associated with the deviations in the Fe ion distribution between the tetrahedral and octahedral positions in the nanocrystals as compared to the bulk stoichiometric magnetite. The fluorescent spectrum of eosin Y-doped NPs dispersed in water solution was obtained and a red shift and line broadening (in comparison with the dye molecules being free in water) were revealed and explained. Most attention was paid to the adsorption properties of the nanoparticles with respect to three dyes: methylene blue, Congo red, and eosin Y. The kinetic data showed that the adsorption processes were associated with the pseudo-second order mechanism for all three dyes. The equilibrium data were more compatible with the Langmuir isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity was reached for Congo red.

Аннотация: This work is devoted to the study of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles doubly coated with carbon. First, Fe3O4@C nanoparticles were synthesized by thermal decomposition. Then these synthesized nanoparticles, 20–30 nm in size were processed in a solution of glucose at 200 °C during 12 h, which led to an unexpected phenomenon – the nanoparticles self-assembled into large conglomerates of a regular shape of about 300 nm in size. The morphology and features of the magnetic properties of the obtained hybrid nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, differential thermo-gravimetric analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer, magnetic circular dichroism and Mössbauer spectroscopy. It was shown that the magnetic core of Fe3O4@C nanoparticles was nano-crystalline, corresponding to the Fe3O4 phase. The Fe3O4@C@C nanoparticles presumably contain Fe3O4 phase (80%) with admixture of maghemite (20%), the thickness of the carbon shell in the first case was of about 2–4 nm. The formation of very large nanoparticle conglomerates with a linear size up to 300 nm and of the same regular shape is a remarkable peculiarity of the Fe3O4@C@C nanoparticles. Adsorption of organic dyes from water by the studied nanoparticles was also studied. The best candidates for the removal of dyes were Fe3O4@C@C nanoparticles. The kinetic data showed that the adsorption processes were associated with the pseudo-second order mechanism for cationic dye methylene blue (MB) and anionic dye Congo red (CR). The equilibrium data were more consistent with the Langmuir isotherm and were perfectly described by the Langmuir–Freundlich model.

Аннотация: Core–shell FexOy@C nanoparticles (NPs) modified with Ag were studied with x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive elemental mapping, Mössbauer spectroscopy, static magnetic measurements, and optical magnetic circular dichroism (MCD). FexOy@C NPs synthesized by the pyrolysis process of the mixture of Fe(NO3)3 centerdot 9H2O with oleylamine and oleic acid were added to a heated mixture of oleylamine and AgNO3 in different concentrations. The final product was a mixture of iron oxide crystalline NPs in an amorphous carbon shell and Ag crystalline NPs. The iron oxide NPs were presented by two magnetic phases with extremely close crystal structures: Fe3O4 and γ-Fe2O3. Ag is shown to form crystalline NPs located very close to the iron oxide NPs. An assumption is made about the formation of hybrid FexOy@C-Ag NPs. Correlations were obtained between the Ag concentration in the fabricated samples, their magnetic properties and the MCD spectrum shape. Introducing Ag led to a approximately linear decrease of the NPs saturation magnetization depending upon the Ag concentration, it also resulted into the MCD spectrum shift to the lower light wave energies. MCD was also studied for the Fe3O4@C NPs synthesized earlier with the same one-step process using different heat treatment temperatures, and MCD spectra were compared for two series of NPs. A possible contribution of the surface plasmon excitation in Ag NPs to the MCD spectrum of the FexOy@C-Ag NPs is discussed.

Аннотация: Magnetization dependences of CoxZnl1 – xFe2O4 nanoparticles (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) synthesized with the citrate precursor technique on an external magnetic field and temperature are presented. Ferrimagnetic order in nanoparticles with x ≥ 0.2 appeared at temperatures, T, exceeding room temperature, and in nanoparticles with x = 0 and 0.1 at T near 100 K. The saturation magnetization, Ms, remnant magnetization, Mr, and the coercive force, Hc, increase with x increase and the temperature decrease. Ms reached very high value: Ms of NPs with x = 0.5 equals to 106.6 emu/g at 100 K while, according to the literature data, Ms of stoichiometric bulk Co ferrite equals to 90 emu/g at 4.2 K. Correlations between concentration dependences of magnetic and electric properties has been revealed and explained qualitatively.

Аннотация: Tuning optical or magnetic properties of nanoparticles, by addition of impurities, for specific applications is usually achieved at the cost of band gap and work function reduction. Additionally, conventional strategies to develop nanoparticles with a large band gap also encounter problems of phase separation and poor crystallinity at high alloying degree. Addressing the aforementioned trade-offs, here we report Ni–Zn nanoferrites with energy band gap (Eg) of ≈3.20 eV and a work function of ≈5.88 eV. While changes in the magnetoplasmonic properties of the Ni–Zn ferrite were successfully achieved with the incorporation of bismuth ions at different concentrations, there was no alteration of the band gap and work function in the developed Ni–Zn ferrite. This suggests that with the addition of minute impurities to ferrites, independent of their changes in the band gap and work function, one can tune their magnetic and optical properties, which is desired in a wide range of applications such as nanobiosensing, nanoparticle based catalysis, and renewable energy generation using nanotechnology.

Аннотация: Cu1-xFexCr2Se4 nanoparticles with x = 0, 0.2, and 0.4 were synthesized via thermal decomposition of metal nitrate or chloride salts and selenium powder using different precursor compositions and processing details. Single crystalline nano-belts or nano-rods coexist in the synthesized powder samples with hexagon-shaped plates in dependence on the precursor composition. The belts gathered into conglomerates forming "hierarchical" particles. Visible magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) of Cu1-xFexCr2Se4 nanoparticles embedded into a transparent matrix was investigated for the first time. The similarity of the MCD spectra of all samples showed the similarity of the nanoparticles electronic structure independent of their morphology. Basing on the MCD spectral maxima characteristics, electron transitions from the ground to the excited states were identified with the help of the conventional band theory and the multi-electron approach. © 2015 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: IIn this paper, we present a study of the electron spin resonance (ESR) of nanoparticles (NPs) of Cu1−xFexCr2Se4 chalcogenides with x = 0, 0.2, and 0.4. NPs were synthesized via the thermal decomposition of metal chloride salts and selenium powder in a high-temperature organic solvent. According to the XRD and HRTEM data, the NPs were single crystalline nearly hexagonal plates with the structure close to CuCr2Se4 (Fd-3m, a = 10.337 Å). For x = 0 and 0.2, the NPs tend to form long stacks consisting of the plates “face to face” attached to each other due to the magnetostatic interparticle interaction. Only separate NPs were observed in the case of x = 0.4. Peculiarities were revealed in the ESR temperature behavior for the NPs with x = 0 and 0.2 consistent with the features in the temperature dependences of the NPs magnetization. The non-monotonous dependence of the resonance field Hres on the temperature with a kink near 130 K and the energy gap in the resonance spectrum depending on the type of nanoparticle compacting are the distinct peculiarities. One of the main factors is discussed in order to explain the peculiarities: the coexistence of two types of anisotropy in the Cu1−xFexCr2Se4 NPs, in-plain shape anisotropy and magnetocrystalline anisotropy with four easy axes, which increases strongly with the temperature decrease.

Аннотация: Fused silica plates have been implanted with 40 keV Co+ or Ni+ ions to high doses in the range of (0.25-1.0) x 10(17) ions/cm(2), and magnetic properties of the implanted samples have been studied with ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) technique supplemented by transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The high-dose implantation with 3d-ions results in the formation of cobalt and nickel metal nanoparticles in the irradiated subsurface layer of the SiO2 matrix. Co and Ni nanocrystals with hexagonal close packing and face-centered cubic structures have a spherical shape and the sizes of 4-5 nm (for cobalt) and 6-14 nm (for nickel) in diameter. Room-temperature FMR signals from ensembles of Co and Ni nanoparticles implanted in the SiO2 matrix exhibit an out-of-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy that is typical for thin magnetic films. The dose and temperature dependences of FMR spectra have been analyzed using the Kittel formalism, and the effective magnetization and g-factor values have been obtained for Co- and Ni-implanted samples. Nonsymmetric FMR line shapes have been fitted by a sum of two symmetrical curves. The dependences of the magnetic parameters of each curve on the implantation dose and temperature are presented.

Аннотация: ZnO and Co-doped ZnO films were synthesized by the radio frequency magnetron sputtering in mixed atmosphere of Ar + 20% O2 and Ar + 20–50% H2. The morphology, chemical composition, crystal structure, optical transmission, electrical resistance, and magnetic circular dichroism of the films were investigated. It was established that the films thickness decreased several times when Ar was partly replaced by hydrogen in the sputtering chamber. At the same time, for the Co-doped ZnO films, the increase in the relative Co content with the increasing hydrogen concentration was observed. These phenomena are explained by the formation of gaseous ZnH2 because of the hydrogen reaction with the growing films under the conditions of the high substrate temperature (450 °C) and, respectively, the decrease in the Zn component in the films. The hydrogenated Co-doped ZnO films exhibit an increase in electric conductivity and ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature. The magnetic nature of the films is explained by a combination of the intrinsic ferromagnetism (due to the formation of the Co-H-Co complex) with the inclusion of metallic Co clusters.

Аннотация: Morphology, chemical composition, crystal structure, and magnetic circular dichroism of ZnO films doped simultaneously with Co and Al (CAZO) have been studied. The films were deposited on glass substrates by the RF magnetron sputtering of the Zn0.93Co0.05Al0.02O target. Low hydrogen concentrations of 1–4% were used in mixed Ar + H2 atmosphere together with high enough substrate temperature of 450 °C. A tendency to a decrease in the Zn amount and an increase in the relative Co and Al content in the films has been revealed in the presence of hydrogen in the atmosphere. The structural data of the studied films correlate well with those for high-hydrogenated (20–50% H2) CAZO films deposited under the same conditions and studied earlier. The new data indicate the prospect of obtaining ferromagnetic samples based on ZnO without any secondary phases.

Аннотация: Effect of Ag inclusions on magnetic properties and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) of Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) in the mixed system of Fe3O4 and Ag NPs in dependence on the relative concentration of the components is presented. The samples were synthesized by the thermal decomposition of the mixture of constant concentration of Fe(NO3)3·9H2O and varied concentration of AgNO3. The synthesized powdered samples consisted of Fe3O4 and Ag NPs located very close with each other, and in the most cases the Fe3O4 NPs were bordered with the Ag nanocrystals. The Ag introducing in the samples does not effect, practically, in the Fe3O4 NPs morphology and size distribution. At the same time, Ag NPs in the powdered samples cause a decrease in the Fe3O4 NPs magnetization and shift of the blocking temperature to lower temperatures, both approximately proportional to the Ag concentration. Most significant changes are revealed in the MCD spectra in the energy region of 1.2–2.2 eV. We have discussed the influence of the Ag NPs on the MCD spectra features in terms of the charge-transfer electron transitions. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: Magnetic and magneto-optical properties of cobalt nanoparticles (Co-NPs) dispersed in a transparent dielectric SiO2 and semiconductor ZnO matrices have been investigated. Field and temperature dependences of the samples magnetization showed the typical behavior of an ensemble of superparamagnetic particles with a blocking temperature near and below room temperature. The spectroscopy of magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) in the visible and near-infrared light ranges has revealed a significant difference between the behavior of the Co-NPs and a solid Co film. It has been found that the MCD spectrum shape for the Co-NPs does not depend on the matrix type. The room temperature magneto-optical activity of the Co-NPs in the different matrices has been estimated as an indicator for practical applications.

Изучены морфология и особенности магнитных и магнитооптических свойств полученных гибридных наночастиц. Исследованы адсорбционные свойства наночастиц по удалению катионных и анионных красителей из водных растворов.The work is devoted to the study of the Fe3O4@C magnetic nanoparticles synthesized with the thermal decomposition method using three different synthesis routes: (1) two stage process when preliminary synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles were covered by carbon, (2) core-shell nanoparticles were prepared in the one stage process, and (3) these core-shell nanoparticles were covered with the additional carbon shell. The morphology and features of the magnetic and magneto-optical properties of the obtained hybrid nanoparticles were studied. The sorption properties of NPs for the removal of dyes have been studied.
