Аннотация: We propose a new method for accelerating the process of mechanical alloying in the Co-Cu system possessing positive enthalpy of mixing and exhibiting no mutual solubility of components under equilibrium conditions. For this purpose, highly disperse powders of composite particles representing a Co-P amorphous alloy core covered with a nanocrystalline copper shell were prepared by chemical deposition. These composite powders were mechanically alloyed by processing in a ball mill. Investigation of the atomic structure and magnetic properties of the composite powders upon milling showed that the formation of supersaturated Co-Cu solid solutions under such conditions requires a much shorter milling time as compared to that for the conventional mechanical alloying processes. Аннотация: A setup is developed for measuring the ME E effect by fixing the amplitude of magnetization oscillations upon the repolarization of a sample, caused by the application of ac voltage to the sample plates. The temperature dependence of the ME E effect in a Ga2 - xFexO3 single-crystal sample is measured in external fields from 0.25 to 1 kOe at temperatures from 77.4 to 280 K. It is established that the effect disappears when the Curie temperature is attained. The hysteresis of the magnetoelectric effect related to the magnetization hysteresis is measured. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: In the magnetic field range Delta H = 8-60 kOe we observed and studied the anomalous oscillations in the magnetic field dependence of the resistance and magnetization of single crystals of n-HgCr2Se4. The absence of periodicity in 1/H in the Delta H = 8-20 kOe range can be explained by the non-Fermi-liquid behavior of the electron subsystem and agrees with the theory of the de Haas-van Alphen in systems with intermediate valence. In stronger fields, Delta H = 20-60 kOe, the amplitude of the fundamental harmonic decreases, with the number and amplitude of the higher-order harmonics increasing, As a result, noise is superimposed on the signal as magnetic field strength grows. The temperature dependence of the magnetization is the sum of the monotonic spin-wave contribution and the oscillating part. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7761(98)02205-7].

Аннотация: The electrical properties of a system of nanogranular amorphous Fe–SiO films with a SiO concentration between 0 and 92 vol % have been investigated. The samples with a low SiO content are characterized by the metal-type conductivity. With an increase in the dielectric content x in the films, the concentration transition from the metal to tunneling conductivity occurs at x ≈ 0.6. At the same concentration, the ferromagnet–superparamagnet transition is observed, which was previously investigated by the magnetic method. The temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity ρ(T) for the compositions corresponding to the dielectric region obey the law ρ(T) ~ exp(2(C/kT)1/2), which is typical of the tunneling conductivity. The estimation of the metal grain sizes from the tunneling activation energy C has shown good agreement with the sizes obtained previously by analyzing the magnetic properties. In the dielectric region of the compositions, the giant magnetoresistive effect attaining 25% at low temperatures has been obtained.

Аннотация: The Pb2Fe2-xMnxGe2O9 (x = 0.43) orthorhombic antiferromagnet single crystals have been synthesized by a modified pseudo-flux technique and their magnetic and magnetodielectric properties have been investigated. It has been established that partial substitution of highly anisotropic Mn3+ ions for iron ones significantly affects the magnetic structure of the crystal. Under magnetization of the crystal along the rhombic b and c axes, magnetization jumps have been detected, which are indicative of the occurrence of orientational transitions identified as first-order ones. No weak ferromagnetism characteristic of the pure crystal in the rhombic a axis direction has been detected. The field dependences of the magnetization for the pure and Mn-doped crystals have been analyzed using the thermodynamic potential that takes into account the crystal symmetry. It has been shown that, in the Mn-substituted crystal, the antiferromagnetic vector in the ground state is parallel to the rhombic b axis; in this state, weak ferromagnetism has not been observed. Under magnetization along the b axis, a conventional spin-flop transition occurs. The orientational transition under magnetization along the c axis has been attributed to the reorientation of the antiferromagnetic vector relative to the a axis with the simultaneous occurrence of a weak ferromagnetic moment along the c axis. Magnetic phase diagrams of the Mn-doped crystal for the magnetic fields H||b and H||c have been built. In the Mn-doped crystal, at E||c and H||c, the orientational transition-induced magnetodielectric response jump has been detected, which is higher than the jumps observed for the undoped crystal by a factor of 3. The magnetodielectric properties of the pure and Mn-doped crystals have been analyzed using their magnetic phase diagrams.
