Аннотация: This paper is devoted to the investigation of iron globules that are formed during cooling of the iron-carbon-helium plasma and as a result of destruction of a natural ball lightning. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, and ferromagnetic resonance investigations were carried out. The magnetization values of the samplers were determined.

Аннотация: The solution of the problem of all-optical (nonmagnetic) confinement of ultracold electron-ion neutral plasma based on selective action on plasma ions with quantum transition J = 1 - J = 0 of so-called rectified radiation forces in a strong nonmonochromatic light field is suggested. The presented scheme of the three-dimensional dissipative optical trap for plasma allows one to obtain long-lived ultracold plasma with controlled characteristics. The lifetime of the ultracold plasma in such a trap may exceed considerably (by orders of magnitude) the time of free plasma expansion and the lifetime in the (earlier proposed) optical molasses for the ultracold plasma. Аннотация: Laser cooling and crystallization of electron-ion plasma is studied using the Brownian dynamics simulation technique and taking into consideration the interaction of ions with the electron subsystem. It has been shown that the nonlinear dependence of laser friction force on the velocity of ions has to be taken into account in order to simulate in an adequate manner the cooling dynamics and obtain a correct estimate for minimum temperatures. It has been found that times required for formation of an ordered ionic structure can be much longer than the typical plasma cooling time.

Аннотация: Depletion dynamics of an open system of weakly interacting fermions with two-body random interactions is studied. In this model, fermions are escaping from the high-energy one-particle orbitals, that mimics the evaporation process used in laboratory experiments with neutral atoms to cool them to ultra-low temperatures. It is shown that due to self-thermalization the system instantaneously adjusts to the new temperature which decreases with the course of time.

Аннотация: We report the results of investigations of the effect of cooling in an external magnetic field starting from the temperature over superparamagnetic blocking temperature TB on the shift of magnetic hysteresis loops in systems of ferrihydrite nanoparticles from ∼2.5 to ∼5 nm in size with different TB values. In virtue of high anisotropy fields of ferrihydrite nanoparticles and open hysteresis loops in the range of experimentally attainable magnetic fields, the shape of hysteresis loops of such objects in the field-cooling mode is influenced by the minor hysteresis loop effect. A technique is proposed for distinguishing the exchange bias effect among the effects related to the minor hysteresis loops caused by high anisotropy fields of ferrihydrite particles. The exchange bias in ferrihydrite is stably observed for particles not less than 3 nm in size or with TB over 40 K, and its characteristic value increases with the particle size. © 2016 Author(s).

Аннотация: Heat capacity and intensive magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in manganites (La1-yEuy)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3[y=0.2; 0.6] (LEPM) were investigated by means of adiabatic calorimeter. The heat capacity anomaly as well as the values of both the intensive (Delta T-AD) and the extensive (Delta S-MCE) MCE were found to decrease upon increased replacement of La with nonmagnetic Eu. However, because of widening of the MCE peaks, the LEPM compounds show the relative cooling power, RCP/Delta H, comparable to other solid solutions of manganites. Owing to strong effect of Eu - La substitution on the Curie temperature, LEPM might have potential as the solid state refrigerants in multi-element cooling apparatus operating in a wide temperature range. Аннотация: Heat capacity measurements were performed for a single crystal wafer of PMN in the temperature range of 170-250 K applying an electric field E = 3.0 kV/cm along the [111] direction. The heat capacity anomalies related to the phase transition at Tc = 210 K upon zero field heating after field cooling and at Tc = 223 K upon field cooling have been found. The results obtained are discussed together with the data of previous studies in the frame of the spherical random bondrandom field model.

Аннотация: A method of producing and confining ultracold electron-ion plasma with a strongly nonideal ion subsystem is considered. The method is based on the laser cooling of plasma ions by the radiation resonant with the ion quantum transition. A model is developed for the laser cooling of recombining plasma. Computer simulation based on this model showed that the ion nonideality parameter can be as large as similar to100. The data obtained demonstrate that the production of ultracold nonideal plasma is quite possible. (C) 2002 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The magnetic and electrical properties of the BiFe1-xMnxO3 (x = 0.05, 0.15) films in the temperature range of 80–600 K have been investigated. The Curie temperature (Tc) of the films has been determined. A decrease in the conductivity of the films with x = 0.05 upon cooling in an electric field from the temperatures T ˂ Tc has been found. This effect has been described in the model of decreasing quantum well (domain wall) density and the tunneling coefficient drop. A decrease in the conductivity of the BiFe1-xMnxO3 film by more than an order of magnitude upon cooling from high temperatures in a magnetic field has been established. The experimental data are interpreted using the magnetic-field-induced magnetic structure variation and exchange splitting of the impurity subband.

Аннотация: A detailed study of the structural phase transition in Eu1–xLaxFe3(BO3)4 mixed crystals as a function of composition is reported. By analyzing a frequency shift of an electronic f-f transition in high-resolution optical spectra of Eu3+ ions, we detected a decrease in the phase transition temperature Ts from 87.05 to 12.2 K (upon cooling) and a simultaneous increase in thermal hysteresis ΔTs from 0.29 to 4.7 K with increasing x from x=0 to x=0.12. A rectangular hysteresis loop was observed. The experimental Ts(x) and ΔTs(x) dependences are described within the developed analytical model utilizing linear decrease in Ts with x and treating the increase in ΔTs in terms of the impurity-related decrease in the interaction between some local order parameters. We argue that R1−xR′xFe3(BO3)4 solid solutions, where R and R′ are different rare-earth elements, can be used to implement optical storage devices and switches operating at any chosen temperature between 0 and 450 K. It is found that the changes in the composition and, correspondingly, structural phase transition parameters do not affect the magnetic phase transformation. Eu0.88La0.12Fe3(BO3)4 demonstrates the structural phase transition at about 12 K, well below the Néel temperature TN=32K.

Аннотация: In this paper, the results of radiothermal and radar remote sensing of several Arctic tundra test sites were investigated to establish the dependences of the reflectivity and backscattering coefficient on soil temperature. The brightness temperature and backscattering coefficient were measured by a SMAP radiometer (1.4GHz) and Sentinel-1 radar (5.4GHz) over areas near to Franklin Bluffs weather station in the North Slope of Alaska and Isachsen weather station on Ellef Ringnes Island respectively. It has been experimentally and theoretically shown that between the surface soil temperature measured by weather stations in the period 2015-2016 and the reflectivity or backscattering coefficient there is a strong correlation relationship no worse than 0.68. In addition, in the range of soil surface temperature changes from -30°C to 0°C, the variations in the backscattering coefficient and reflectivity are about 4 dB for both test sites. This study contributes to further understanding the processes of microwave emission and scattering of frozen Arctic soils that is pertinent to developing new remote sensing algorithms for the permafrost region.

Аннотация: Thin polycrystalline Pr0.6Sr0.4MnO3 films were grown on the Y stabilized zirconium oxide substrates by magnetron sputtering using RF power and off-axis sputtering scheme with double cathodes. Only one polycrystalline phase with structural parameters consistent with that for the corresponding bulk sample was revealed in the films. Electric resistivity dependence on temperature demonstrates the shape characteristic for the substances with the Mott transition. The difference between magnetization temperature curves measured in the zero field cooling and field cooling modes was revealed. Magnetization field dependences were presented by the hysteresis loops changing their form with temperature. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Аннотация: In this paper, dependences of backscattering coefficient on Arctic tundra soil temperature were investigated. The backscattering coefficient was measured by ALOS PALSAR (1.3GHz) over areas near to Imnaviat weather station in the North Slope of Alaska in the period from January 12, 2009 to April 20, 2011. It has been experimentally and theoretically shown that there is a strong correlation relationship no worse than 0.76 between the surface soil temperature measured by weather stations and backscattering coefficient. The variations of the backscattering coefficient was found to be about 5-6 dB over the test site when soil surface temperature changes from -10°С to 10°С. This study contributes to further understanding the processes of scattering of frozen Arctic soils that is pertinent to developing new remote sensing algorithms for the permafrost region.В данной работе представлены результаты исследования температурной зависимости коэффициента обратного радарного рассеяния, измеренного ALOS (PALSAR) на частоте 1,26ГГц, для тундрового тестового участка, расположенного на Северном склоне Аляски вблизи метеорологической станции Имнавиат. Экспериментально и теоретически показано, что температура поверхности почвы, измеренная метеостанцией в период с 12 января 2009 года по 20 апреля 2011 года, и коэффициент обратного рассеяния нелинейно зависят друг от друга с квадратом коэффициента корреляции 0,76. Данная зависимость удовлетворительно может быть описана моделью рассеяния Оха и температурно-зависимой диэлектрической моделью талых и мёрзлых тундровых почв с высоким содержанием органического вещества. Показано, что в диапазоне изменений температуры поверхности почвы от -10°С до 10°С вариации коэффициента обратного рассеяния на испытательном участке не превышают 5-6 дБ. Данное исследование способствует дальнейшему пониманию процессов рассеяния микроволн мерзлыми арктическими почвами, с целью разработки новых алгоритмов дистанционного зондирования Арктических регионов.

Аннотация: The morphology of vortex lattice domains in bulk type-II/1 superconductors is of central interest for many areas such as fundamental condensed matter physics, engineering science, and the optimization of materials for high transport current superconductivity applications. Here, we present a comprehensive experimental study of a single crystal niobium in the intermediate mixed state and Shubnikov phase with two complementary neutron techniques: high resolution polarized neutron imaging and small-angle neutron scattering. In this way, we were able to identify and visualize the occurrence of compensating currents, the flux line closure, and the freezing of the vortex spacing during the process of field cooling and high field cooling. With the combination of complementary neutron techniques, it was possible to add insights into the quest for the understanding of the flux pinning and nucleation of vortices in type-II/1 superconductors during the process of field cooling and high field cooling.

Аннотация: Вопрос возникновения намагниченности в сплавах системы никель-титан до сих пор изучен недостаточно. Наши ранние работы показали возможность возникновения намагниченности при многократных циклах прямых и обратных мартенситных переходах в сплаве Ni51Ti49, а также после деформации этого сплава растяжением до разрыва. Представленная работа посвящена выявлению эффекта намагниченности в образцах сплава Ni51Ti49 в результате их однократного охлаждения в жидком азоте, а также исчезновению намагниченности при нагревании образцов до комнатной температуры. С помощью индукционного петлескопа выявлено, что непосредственно после охлаждения образец имел высокую намагниченность. По мере нагревания образца петли гистерезиса изменяются, приобретая меньший наклон к горизонтальной оси, что свидетельствует об уменьшении магнитной индукции практически до нуля с повышением температуры до комнатной. Причину появления и исчезновения намагниченности можно связать с микродеформационными процессами, проходящими при охлаждении и нагревании образцов, связанными с прямым и обратным мартенситными переходами.The occurrence of magnetization in alloys of the nickel-titanium system is still studied insufficiently. Our early work showed the possibility of magnetization arising during multiple cycles of forward and reverse martensitic transitions in the Ni51Ti49 alloy, as well as after deformation of this alloy by tensile stress to rupture. The purpose of this paper is devoted to revealing the effect of magnetization in samples of the Ni51Ti49 alloy as a result of their single cooling in liquid nitrogen, as well as the disappearance of magnetization when the samples are heated to room temperature. Using an induction hysteresigraph it is found out that the sample has a high magnetization immediately after cooling. As the sample is heated, the hysteresis loops change, acquiring a smaller inclination to the horizontal axis. It indicates a decrease in the magnetic induction to almost zero as the temperature rises to room temperature. The reason for the occurrence and disappearance of magnetization can be associated with micro-deformation processes related to forward and reverse martensitic transitions during cooling and heating of the samples.
