Аннотация: The method for investigation of the uniaxial and hexagonal anisotropies in weakly ferromagnetic rhombohedral FeBO3 crystals with the Fe2þ magnetic impurity with the use of the single-ion and pair approximation has been developed. In the framework of this method, a quantitative discrepancy between theoretical and experimental data on a uniaxial field has been eliminated. The energy contributions to the hexagonal anisotropy that are caused by the Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya interaction, the crystal field of Fe3þ ions and the temperature dependence of this anisotropy were analytically treated. The experimental temperature dependence of the hexagonal anisotropy of FeBO3 crystals is explained. It is shown that the compensation point and the typical temperature dependence of the hexagonal anisotropy result from the competition of the contributions of Fe3þ and Fe2þ ions. It is shown that respective considerable contributions to the anisotropy of Fe3þ and Fe2þ ions are made by the cubic symmetry and the uniaxial symmetry of the exchange ‘‘single-ion’’ type. The anisotropy constants for FeBO3 crystal was obtained by using the described results. It was shown, that for the calcite type structure crystals (iron borate and manganese carbonate) with S-state ions, the single ion and pair models (which previously raised doubts in their validity and accuracy) describe the experimental data good enough.

Аннотация: We study optical properties of the multiband superconductors with an s В± order parameter symmetry. By comparing results of our theory with experimental data on optical conductivity for Ba0.68K 0.32Fe2As2 single crystals, we show that satisfactory description of the novel superconductors can be obtained only considering a strong electron-boson coupling. We reexamine the effect of disorder and demonstrate that multiband superconductors are more robust with respect to it than naively expected by simple analogy with paramagnetic impurities in single-band superconductors. Moreover, disorder may give rise to new effects, in particular to a phase transition s В±s ++. We discuss how the systematic study of disorder impact on the density of states and the optical conductivity may provide information on the underlying order parameter structure. Аннотация: The multiband (4 x4 bands) model and its reduction to the effective two-band model taking into account the strong interaction with intermediate spin-fluctuations have been successively applied to the description of the properties of Ba1-xKxFeAs2. On the base of this approach and using the extension of the formalism developed for the multiband system MgB2 we have calculated free energy and frequency dependent optical complex conductivity \ sigma ( \omega ,T) in the superconducting as well as the normal states of pnictides. An application of the presented approach to the ellipsometry data for single crystals of Ba1-xKxFeAs2 allows to describe some experimental features connected to multigap nature and strong coupling effects. Effects of rather strong nonmagnetic impurities beyond the Born approximation which can lead to the transitions in the superconducting order parameter S+- - S++ were investigated.

Аннотация: Solid state reactions between Ge and Mn films are systematically examined using X-ray diffraction, photoelectron spectroscopy, and magnetic and electrical measurements. The films have a nominal atomic ratio Ge:Mn = 20:80 and are investigated at temperatures from 50 to 500 °C. It is established that after annealing at ~ 120°C, the ferromagnetic Mn5Ge3 phase is the first phase to form at the 20Ge/80Mn interface. As the annealing temperature increases to 300°C, the weak magnetic Mn5Ge 2 + Mn3Ge phases simultaneously begin to grow and they become dominant at 400°C. Increasing the annealing temperature to 500°C leads to the formation of the ferromagnetic phase with a Curie temperature TC ~ 350-360 K and magnetization 14-25 kA/m at room temperature. The X-ray diffraction study of the samples shows the reflections from the Mn 5Ge3 phase, and the photoelectron spectra contain the oxygen and carbon peaks. The homogeneous distribution of oxygen and carbon over the sample thickness suggests that the increased Curie temperature and magnetization are related to the migration of C and O atoms into the Mn 5Ge3 lattice and the formation of the Nowotny phase Mn5Ge3CxOy. The initiation temperature (~ 120 C) is the same in the Mn5Ge3 phase with the solid-state reactions in the Ge/Mn films as well as in the phase separation in the GexMn1 - x diluted semiconductors. Thus, we conclude that the synthesis of the Mn5Ge3 phase is the moving force for the spinodal decomposition of the GexMn 1 - x diluted semiconductors.

Аннотация: Characteristics of the superconducting and antiferromagnetic phases of heavy-fermion intermet-allides are described within a periodic Anderson model with allowance for the superexchange interaction between spin moments of the localized states. It is shown that an external pressure that changes the seed energy of an impurity level can rapidly destroy the long-range antiferromagnetic order. The development of the Cooper instability near such an order-disorder transition induces the experimentally observed state in which superconductivity coexists with the antiferromagnetic ordering. Аннотация: The existence of an antiferrodistortion transition in EuTiO3 is disputable, and this question needs to be answered. One of the possible causes is the presence of an Eu3+ impurity in a sample. A nonempirical polarizable ion model is used to study the effect of a trivalent Eu3+ ion impurity on the antiferrodistortion and ferroelectric instabilities of an EuTiO3 crystal in the bulk and the thin-film states. Lattice dynamics calculation shows that a bulk impurity-free EuTiO3 crystal has no unstable modes throughout the entire phase space volume. The addition of an Eu3+ impurity leads to a significant softening of the rotational mode, the distortion in which makes tetragonal phase I4/mcm (which is experimentally observed) energetically favorable. In going from the bulk crystal to the thin film, the vibration spectrum of the impurity-free film has unstable antiferrodistortion and rotational modes. The addition of an Eu3+ impurity enhances the antiferrodistortion instability, which fully or partly suppresses ferroelectricity.
