Аннотация: Two off-channel nonlinear defects coupled to the photonic waveguide constitute the Fabry-Perot interfer-ometer (FPR). The defects are made from a Kerr-like nonlinear material. For the linear case such a FPR can support the bound states in the form of standing waves between the defects if the distance between them is quantized. For the nonlinear case the bound states appear for arbitrary distance between the defects however for an quantized electromagnetic intensity. For the transmission through FPR we reveal new resonances and show these are a result of coupling of the bound states with incident wave because of nonlinearity of the defects. The resonances are spaced at the eigen frequencies of bound states.

Evolution and present status of experimental manned ecological systems for long-term human life support – BIOS, developed by the Institute of Biophysics of Russian Academy of Sciences in Krasnoyarsk (Siberia) / I. I. Gitelzon // 66th International Astronautical Congress : proceedings. - 2015. - Ст. 28556. - Bibliogr. at the end of the art.
Аннотация: Closed ecological systems are of two-fold interest – as models of the Earth’s biosphere explorable in experiments and as a facility for long-term autonomous human life support beyond the Earth. Theoretical analysis and experimental implementation of highly closed manned systems has been the subject of studies at the Institute of Biophysics (Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch) for many years. BIOS systems of increasing complexity with complete regeneration of atmosphere, water and partially food have been realized. In BIOS-3 experiments the system inhabited by 2-3 researchers for 4-6 months maintained its metabolic equilibrium without any negative physiological effect on the crew, which proves its sustainable condition. Specific for BIOS-3 is internal control by the people inhabiting the system. So, BIOS-3 is the first experimental implementation of V.I. Vernadsky’s idea about the noosphere – habitable Biosphere controlled by human intelligence. Contrary to predictions of many environmentalists the closedness of the ecosystem is a factor that does not reduce, but increases its sustainability and makes its use for reliable life support outside the Earth realistic. The system is sustainable owing to permanent feedback between the monitoring of few key parameters of the system and automatic corrective actions on them. Main object of control is photo- biosynthesis regenerating parameters of human habitat disturbed by his vital activities. This principle has been realized in BIOS system and proved its reliability in long-term experiments. A new challenge is specified –optimal increase of trophic closedness of the system by reproduction within it essential proteins (peptides and amino acids), lipids, vitamins and other essential compounds. Alternative lines of attack on this problem by state-of-the-art biotechnological methods, GMO including, are under analysis. Reduced BIOS version – without complete closure – can be a breakthrough instrument to improve the quality of life of people living under extreme conditions on the Earth – in polar latitudes (Arctic, Antarctic), in deserts, in high mountains.

Hight-temperature cuprate superconductors -- Tree-band p-d model -- Spin -- polaron -- Strong electron correlations
Аннотация: It is demonstrated for the first time that the strong coupling between spin moments of copper ions and oxygen holes, which arises upon hybridization mixing of two hole subsystems in the Emery model, not only affects the formation of spin polaron quasiparticles but also ensures effective attraction between them via the exchange interaction. This results in the Cooper instability with d-wave pairing in a 2D ensemble of spin polaron quasiparticles. The T-x phase diagram obtained using this approach agrees well with the available experimental data. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Ginzburg-Landau equations -- Superconductivity -- Antiferromagnetism -- Coexistence phase -- Periodic Anderson model
Аннотация: On the basis of the periodic Anderson model, the microscopic Ginzburg-Landau equations for heavy-fermion superconductors in the coexistence phase of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism have been derived. The obtained expressions are valid in the vicinity of quantum critical point of heavy-fermion superconductors when the onset temperatures of antiferromagnetism and superconductivity are sufficiently close to each other. It is shown that the formation of antiferromagnetic ordering causes a decrease of the critical temperature of superconducting transition and order parameter in the phase of coexisting superconductivity and antiferromagnetism.

BACTERIAL MAGNETITE
Аннотация: Magnetic properties were studied in bottom sediments of saline meromictic Shira Lake by the methods of static magnetometry and resonance Mossbauer spectroscopy for the first time. All layers of bottom sediments contain nanosized single-domain magnetite particles produced by magnetotactic bacteria. The concentration of magnetite in bottom sediments decreased with depth, reaching a local minimum in the layer corresponding to the minimal level of the lake observed in 1910–1930. It is demonstrated that biogenic magnetite may indicate climate-related changes in the level of Shira Lake, in addition to the other biological and geochemical characteristics. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Cu-Ni sulfide ores -- Ultrafine particles -- Mineral surfaces -- Colloids -- Beneficiation -- Environment
Аннотация: Nano-, submicro- and micrometer mineral particles may have an important role in beneficiation of metal ores and environmental impact, but their origin and characteristics are poorly understood. Here, we report data for the yield and the composition of fine fractions, and surfaces of several ground Cu-Ni sulfide ores studied using laser diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Colloidal particles were characterized using dynamic light scattering, zeta-potential measurement, transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction. The production of fines by dry milling was found to increase from about 0.01 vol.% to 0.2 vol.% for submicrometer particles and from ~ 0.5 vol.% to about 1.5 vol.% for particulate material less than 5 μm in the following order: Noril'sk disseminated low sulfide ore ≤ Noril'sk Cu-rich sulfide ore < Noril'sk valleriite ore < Kingash ore. For wet milling, the yield may be several times higher. Both surfaces of the milled ores and colloids were enriched in O, Mg, Si (largely as serpentine slimes) and depleted in sulfur, basic metals and iron, but colloidal valleriite, chalcopyrite, and oxidized pyrrhotite were found in the respective supernatants too. Typically, the colloidal particles form aggregates with an average hydrodynamic diameter of about 1 μm and a smaller number of ~ 5 μm species, except for valleriite ore, which exhibits a single size distribution peak at 2.7 μm. Zeta-potential, which characterizes the electric charge of the particles and dispersion stability of colloids, changed from − 25 mV for the low sulfide ore to about 0 mV for valleriite ore, and to + 15 mV for Kingash ore. Poor flotation recovery of metal from Kingash ore and Noril'sk valleriite ore is suggested to be due to both the large quantities and positive charge of hydrophilic ultrafine serpentine and/or magnesium hydroxide minerals. Resistance to oxidation and hence stability against aggregation of copper-bearing sulfide colloids in waste waters is expected to result in a negative impact on the environment.

Аннотация: In the framework of the modified periodic Anderson model with exchange interaction in the subsystem of localized states, it is shown that spin-charge fluctuations in quasi-two-dimensional intermetallic compounds with rare-earth ions in the mixed valence state significantly affect both the spectrum of magnetic excitations and the conditions at which the antiferromagnetic phase is realized. The spectral characteristics of the phase were obtained by the method of the diagram technique for Hubbard operators in the one-loop approximation, which allows to account for the spincharge fluctuation contributions to the components of the mass and the force operators. The developed theory allowed to quantitatively describe the pressure dependence of the Neel temperature observed in a quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnetic heavy-fermion intermetallic compound CeRhIn5.
