Аннотация: Multiple quantum (MQ) NMR spectroscopy of solids allows one to observe the growth and decay of multispin correlations. As a rule, the average size of the cluster of correlated spins is extracted from the width of the MQ spectrum. In the present article, the size distribution of such clusters is explored. To obtain the above distribution, the solutions for the amplitudes of the decomposition over complete sets of orthogonal operators for the two different models were used. By means of these models, we have taken into account the dependence of cluster degradation (the degradation of a cluster means, e.g., destruction of correlations in cluster or loss of particles in it) through two positions. The first one defines by the cluster size while the second one depends on the MQ coherence order of the cluster. It is shown that in dependence of the relation the rates of these degradation processes, the width of the MQ spectrum carries different information. If the first process is faster that the second one, then the width of the MQ spectrum is still determined by the average cluster size. When the velocity ratio becomes inverse, the width of the MQ spectrum takes on a smaller value, which is a consequence of the faster degradation of the MQ spectrum components with large orders of coherence.

Аннотация: Among the new coal technologies the burning of low-grade coal in the form of coal-water slurry fuel (CWSF) is of a great interest. The basis of CWSF is a highly concentrated coal-water slurry consisting of finely ground coal, water or other liquid and plasticizing agents. The development of CWSF technology is highly relevant for solving global problems of resource conservation and ecology. The study is dedicated to CWSF properties with respect to Kansk-Achinsk coal and water. This paper presents the results of the influence of CWSF's preliminary cavitation water treatment on the combustion dynamics of fuel, (including the features of the combustion temperature trends, delayed ignition time and time of complete combustion) and on its environmental characteristics. A rotary-type hydrodynamic oscillator at high angular velocity (10000 rpm) was used in supercavitation mode. It is shown that the technology of cavitation water treatment leads to a change in the dynamics of CWSF's combustion and to an additional decrease in NOx emissions by 1.6 times, CO2 by 1.3 times.

Аннотация: Electromagnetic waves in a randomly inhomogeneous Josephson junction have been investigated by the averaged Green's function method for a nonmonotonic decay of the correlations of inhomogeneities. Modifications of the spectrum and the decay of these excitations caused by spatial fluctuations of the critical current of the Josephson junction have been studied. The regions of the values of the frequency, the wave number, and the stochastic parameters of the medium, at which the waves have a negative group velocity, have been determined. Аннотация: Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging results are presented for the comparative study of sedimentation of the polymethylmethacrylate colloidal suspensions with spherical particle diameters of 475, 350 and 255 nm. The time evolution of the particle volume fraction in the sedimenting system, velocity of the fluid/suspension interface, interface broadening, and sediment growth velocity are measured against the system concentration as well as the container geometry. Using the experimental data the hindered settling function is evaluated. The influence of the container geometry on the parameters defining the hindered settling function in different approaches is evaluated for the first time. The limiting value of the particle diameter is estimated at which the container geometry has no impact any longer. This effect can be explained by the microscale structure persisting at low Peclet numbers. In addition, the influence of the container geometry on interface broadening and sediment formation for different particle diameters and volume fractions is studied. Spontaneous sediment packing induced by a modified container geometry has been found. NMR imaging has proven to be a highly efficient research tool for studying sedimentation at low Peclet numbers.

Аннотация: Методом усредненных функций Грина исследованы электромагнитные волны в случайно-неоднородном джозефсоновском переходе при немонотонном спаде корреляций неоднородностей. Изучены модификация спектра и затухание этих возбуждений, обусловленные пространственными флуктуациями критического тока джозефсоновского перехода. Определены области значений частоты, волнового числа и стохастических параметров среды, при которых волны имеют отрицательную групповую скорость.

Аннотация: We investigate extraordinary features of optical parametric amplification of Stokes electromagnetic waves that originate from the three-wave mixing of a backward phonon wave with negative group velocity and two ordinary electromagnetic waves. Such properties were earlier shown to exist only in plasmonic negative-index metamaterials that are very challenging to fabricate. Nonlinear optical photonic devices with properties similar to those predicted for negative-index metamaterials are proposed. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

Аннотация: This study presents a theoretical approach to analyze the influence of kappa distributed streaming ions and magnetized electrons on the plasma wave propagation in the presence of dust by employing two-potential theory. In particular, analytical expressions under certain conditions are derived for various modes of propagation comprising of kinetic Alfven wave streaming instability, two stream instability, and dust acoustic and whistler waves. A dispersion relation for kinetic Alfven-like streaming instability has been derived. The effects of dust particles and Lorentzian index on the growth rates and the threshold streaming velocity for the excitation of the instability are examined. The streaming velocity is observed to be destabilizing for slow motion and stabilizing for fast streaming motions. It is also observed that the presence of magnetic field and superthermal particles hinders the growth rate of instability. Аннотация: The feasibilities and specific features of coherent nonlinear-optical energy transfer from control fields to a negativephase signal are studied, and they are found to stem from the backwardness of electromagnetic waves inherent to negative-index metamaterials. Plasmonic metamaterials that possess negative group velocity for light waves promise a revolutionary breakthrough in nanophotonics. However, strong absorption inherent to such metaldielectric nanocomposites imposes severe limitations on the majority of such applications. Herein we show the feasibility and discuss different nonlinear-optical techniques of compensating such losses, producing transparency, amplification and even generation of negative-phase light waves in originally strongly absorbing microscopic samples of plasmonic metal-dielectric nanostructured composites. © 2009 SPIE.
