Аннотация: This article is the second in a series evaluating the effect of dielectric relaxation processes on the relatively effective complex dielectric permittivity (RCP) of soils. Part II is based on the results of experimental measurements in the frequency range 10 kHz to 8–20 GHz. The broadband dielectric spectrum model includes the high-frequency part as a model of the dielectric mixture and the relaxation part as the sum of three relaxation processes modeled by the Debye and Cole–Cole formulas. For modeling the high-frequency part of the spectrum, the Dobson and Mironov models were considered as possible options. As stated in Part I, the influence of relaxation processes on the imaginary part of the RCP extends up to frequencies of units of gigahertz. The increase in the imaginary part in these models was compensated by unrealistically high values of the specific electrical conductivity of free and bound water. We examined the correspondence of these models to experimental data at frequencies above 2–5 GHz, assuming that the conductivity of bound and free water is zero. The parameters of relaxation processes were found while solving the least-square optimization problem using the technique for determining the continuous distribution of relaxation times (DRTs). Found process parameters depend on the content of clay, organic carbon, and moisture of the samples. The more clay is in the soil, the greater the strength of these processes is. The influence of organic carbon with the conditions being equal consists in the reduction of the real and imaginary parts of RCP.

Аннотация: We’ve studied the B800 part of Rhodoblastus acidophilus light-harvesting complex (LH2) by several quantum chemical techniques based on the density functional theory (DFT) and determined the specific method and a minimal reliable model suitable for further studies of the LH2. In addition to bacteriochlorophyll a molecules, the minimal model includes two α and one β chain amino acids. Within the model, we are able to reproduce the contribution of the B800 ring of nine bacteriochlorophyll a molecules to the near infrared Qy absorption band. We also discuss the use of hybrid DFT calculations for precise energy and optical estimations and DFT-based tight binding (DFTB) method for the large-scale calculations. Crucial importance of Hartree-Fock exchange interaction for the correct description of B800 peak position was shown.

Аннотация: Double fluoride salts (NH4)3M4+F7 (M4+: Sn, Ti, Ge, Si) demonstrate a high efficiency of using chemical pressure as a tool for control and tuning structural ordering/disordering, sensitivity to hydrostatic pressure, successions of the phase transitions, etc and, as a result, for purposeful variation within a wide range of parameters of barocaloric effect (BCE). The conventional and inverse BCEs near the triple points were found on the T − p phase diagrams, combination of which can be used to construct original cooling cycle in narrow temperature and pressure ranges. Reconstructive transformation between two cubic phases, Pm3-m ↔ Pa3-, realized in (NH4)3SnF7 at atmospheric pressure and in (NH4)3TiF7 at p ˃ 0.4 GPa are characterized by rather low thermal hysteresis, δT0 = 1 K, and a great entropy change, ΔSBCE = 110–152 J (kg · K)−1, depending on the size of the central atom. At above 300–350 K, a contribution to BCE associated with the regular thermal expansion of the crystal lattice becomes comparable to entropy and temperature changes under pressure in the region of the phase transitions. An analysis of the absolute, relative and integral barocaloric characteristics of (NH4)3M4+F7 compounds showed their high competitiveness with respect to other barocaloric materials considered as promising solid-state refrigerants.

Аннотация: A topological insulator is a material that exhibits the properties of a conductor on the surface and of an insulator in the bulk. The Rudner game is a simplified model of a topological insulator implemented on a two-dimensional photonic lattice of resonators, which is described in the language of tricolor four-cycle two-dimensional Wolfram cellular automata. It is a case of a regular two-dimensional lattice, in which each cell is colored in one of three colors (for a photonic topological insulator, these colors mean the presence of a photon in a resonator, the absence of a photon, and a topological insulator boundary). By setting the transformation rule for each cell, depending on the state of the nearest neighbors and the cell itself, for equal discrete time intervals we obtain a cellular automaton. In this study, the Rudner game is rewritten equivalently in terms of operators in the Zhegalkin polynomial ring with coefficients in a field consisting of three elements.

Аннотация: The oxidation reactions of BaLaCuS3 in the artificial air atmosphere were studied at different heating rates in the temperature range of 50–1200 °C. The oxidation stages were determined by DSC-TG, XRD and IR–vis methods. The kinetic characteristics of the proceeding reactions were obtained with the use of the Kissinger model in a linearized form. Compound BaLaCuS3 was stable in the air up to 280 °C. Upon further heating up to 1200 °C, this complex sulfide underwent three main oxidation stages. The first stage is the formation of BaSO4 and CuLaS2. The second stage is the oxidation of CuLaS2 to La2O2SO4 and copper oxides. The third stage is the destruction of La2O2SO4. The final result of the high-temperature treatment in the artificial air atmosphere was a mixture of barium sulfate, copper (II) oxide and La2CuO4. The mechanism and stages of BaLaCuS3 oxidation and further interactions of the components were discussed.

Аннотация: Structural and magnetic properties of single crystals of DyMnO3 were investigated by neutron diffraction in order to study the peculiarities of 3d-4f interactions in this compound. Precise magnetic order and its detailed temperature evolution were determined using single crystal neutron diffraction. Elliptical cycloid on manganese subsystem below TCh = 19 K was confirmed, with temperature decrease the elipticity of the Mn magnetic structure reduces significantly, creating almost circular cycloid. Temperature evolution of the magnetic structure demonstrate specific hysteretic behavior. The results show a complex interplay between transition metal and rare earth magnetic sublattices leading to so-called “Mn- controlled” and “Dy- controlled” magnetic states. The strong and complicate 3d-4f interaction leads to the unusual very slow magnetic structure relaxation.

Аннотация: New triple molybdates LixNa1−xCaLa0.5(MoO4)3:Er3+0.05/Yb3+0.45 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) were manufactured successfully using the microwave-assisted sol-gel-based technique (MAS). Their room-temperature crystal structures were determined in space group I41/a by Rietveld analysis. The compounds were found to have a scheelite-type structure. In Li-substituted samples, the sites of big cations were occupied by a mixture of (Li, Na, La, Er, Yb) ions, which provided a linear cell volume decrease with the Li content increase. The increased upconversion (UC) efficiency and Raman spectroscopic properties of the phosphors were discussed in detail. The mechanism of optimization of upconversion luminescence upon Li content variation was shown to be due to the control of excitation/energy transfer channel, while the control of luminescence channels played a minor role. The UC luminescence maximized at lithium content x = 0.05. The mechanism of UC optimization was shown to be due to the control of excitation/energy transfer channel, while the control of luminescence channels played a minor role. Over the whole spectral range, the Raman spectra of LixNa1−xCaLa0.5(MoO4)3 doped with Er3+ and Yb3+ ions were totally superimposed with the luminescence signal of Er3+ ions, and increasing the Li+ content resulted in the difference of Er3+ multiple intensity. The density functional theory calculations with the account for the structural disorder in the system of Li, Na, Ca, La, Er and Yb ions revealed the bandgap variation from 3.99 to 4.137 eV due to the changing of Li content. It was found that the direct electronic transition energy was close to the indirect one for all compounds. The determined chromaticity points (ICP) of the LiNaCaLa(MoO4)3:Er3+,Yb3+ phosphors were in good relation to the equal-energy point in the standard CIE (Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage) coordinates.

Аннотация: The role of chemical pressure as an effective tool in the processes of formation of initial and distorted (as a result of structural transformations) phases, thermodynamic properties, and direct and inverse barocaloric effects in some complex oxyfluorides and fluorides with octahedral, tetrahedral, and spherical anion and cation groups in the structure has been studied. It is found that, due to the small temperature hysteresis and high baric sensitivity of materials, the maximum values of absolute and integral barocaloric characteristics can be implemented at low pressures. Correspondingly, the temperature range of reversibility of thermodynamic cycles based on fluorides/oxyfluorides as solid-state coolants can be expanded.

Аннотация: Magnesium complex of ceftriaxone was obtained and characterized by atomic-emission and elemental analysis, TGA, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and density functional theory calculations. Ceftriaxone was coordinated to the magnesium ion by the oxygen of the triazine cycle in the 6th position, the nitrogen of the amine group of the thiazole ring, and oxygen atoms of the lactam carbonyl and carboxylate groups. The disodium salt of ceftriaxone and magnesium complex were screened for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Получен и охарактеризован магниевый комплекс цефтриаксона методами атомно-эмиссионного и элементного анализов, ТГА, ИК- и КР‑спектроскопии, РФА и расчетов теории функционала плотности. Цефтриаксон координируется к иону магния через кислород триазинового цикла в шестом положении, азот аминогруппы тиазольного цикла и атомы кислорода карбоксильной и лактамной групп. Динатриевая соль цефтриаксона и комплекс магния были исследованы на антибактериальную активность в отношении Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli и Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Аннотация: In this letter, the possibility of synthesizing ultra-wideband (UWB) impulses with a conventional log-periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) mounted on a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was demonstrated. The formation of impulses using LPDA (bandwidth from 427 MHz to 1.01 GHz) with a duration of 1.9 ns, containing one period of field oscillations, became possible due to compensation of amplitude and phase-frequency distortions introduced by the antenna into radiated and received impulses. Compensation for these distortions was carried out by inverse filtering method after calibrating the antenna-feeder path at various heights UAV hovering above the reference reflector (brass mesh). The conductive carbon elements of UAV, located in the near field of the antenna, are indirectly taken into account during the calibration of antenna-feeder path parameters and do not introduce significant distortions into the generated impulses. The suggested method of synthesizing UWB impulses can find application in environmental remote sensing and can also be used to sharpen fronts of impulses radiated\received with LPDA.

Аннотация: Charge-transfer plasmons (CTP) in complexes of metal nanoparticles bridged by conductive molecular linkers are theoretically analysed using a statistic approach. The applied model takes into account the kinetic energy of carriers inside the linkers including its dissipation and the Coulomb energy of the charged nanoparticles. The plasmons are statistically investigated for systems containing a large number of complexes of bridged nanoparticles of realistic sizes generated using a simplified molecular dynamics algorithm, where the geometries of the complexes are dependent on the rate of connection of the linkers with the nanoparticles. As illustrated, the distribution of CTP frequencies in the generated nanoparticle complexes is very inhomogeneous. It has a narrow peak, corresponding to CTP plasmons in dimers, and two broad peaks, corresponding mainly to low and high-frequency oscillations in chains of connected nanoparticles. It is found that in general the plasmon frequencies depend inversely on the value of the complex dipole moment of the plasmon oscillation, where the assumption follows that low-frequency plasmons will be more efficiently excited in an external electromagnetic field. To calculate the CTP energy absorption in this field two model modifications are proposed: a system-external electromagnetic field interaction model and a simplified broadening plasmon peak model where the plasmons are calculated at first without damping and where the delta-shaped oscillation peaks are broadened then due to the damping. It is demonstrated that both modifications lead to a wide and almost monotonic absorption in the IR region for all generated systems containing a large number of bridged nanoparticles due to the presence of a large number of CTPs in this region.

Это обстоятельство тормозит развитие пытливого ума, приводит к нерациональной трате материальных средств, оборудования, времени студента и преподавателя. Предлагаемый проект направлен на проектирование и создание комплекса лабораторного физического практикума и демонстрационного эксперимента, отвечающего современному уровню развития физической науки.
Many students of engineering specialties of universities, already in their school years, were well trained in specialized physics and mathematics classes, saturated with physical experiments. Once within the walls of the university, such a student again finds himself in a physics laboratory, where quite standard, already familiar, experiments are offered (with minor variations). This circumstance inhibits the development of an inquiring mind, leads to an irrational waste of material resources, equipment, time of the student and teacher. The proposed project is aimed at designing and creating a complex of laboratory physical practice and a demonstration experiment that meets the modern level of development of physical science.

Аннотация: EuLnCuSe3 (Ln = Nd, Sm, Gd, Er), due to their complex composition, should be considered new materials with the ability to purposefully change the properties. Samples of the EuLnCuSe3 were prepared using Cu, rare earth metal, Se (99.99%) by the ampoule method. The samples were obtained by the crystallization from a melt and annealed at temperatures 1073 and 1273 K. The EuErCuSe3 crystal structure was established using the single-crystal particle. EuErCuSe3 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Cmcm, KCuZrS3 structure type, with cell parameters a = 4.0555 (3), b = 13.3570 (9), and c = 10.4602 (7) Å, V = 566.62 (6) Å3. In structure EuErCuSe3, erbium ions are coordinated by selenium ions in the octahedral polyhedron, copper ions are in the tetrahedral coordination, europium ions are between copper and erbium polyhedra layers and are coordinated by selenium ions as two-cap trigonal prisms. The optical band gap is 1.79 eV. At 4.7 K, a transition from the ferrimagnetic state to the paramagnetic state was detected in EuErCuSe3. At 85 and 293 K, the compound is in a paramagnetic state. According to XRPD data, EuLnCuSe3 (Ln = Nd, Sm, Gd) compounds have a Pnma orthorhombic space group of the Eu2CuS3 structure type. For EuSmCuSe3, a = 10.75704 (15) Å, b = 4.11120 (5) Å, c = 13.37778 (22) Å. In the series of EuLnCuSe3 compounds, the optical band gap increases 1.58 eV (Nd), 1.58 eV (Sm), 1.72 eV (Gd), 1.79 eV (Er), the microhardness of the 205 (Nd), 210 (Sm), 225 (Gd) 235 ± 4 HV (Er) phases increases, and the thermal stability of the phases increases significantly. According to the measurement data of differential scanning calorimetry, the EuNdCuSe3 decomposes, according to the solid-phase reaction T = 1296 K, ΔH = 8.2 ± 0.8 kJ/mol. EuSmCuSe3 melts incongruently T = 1449 K, ΔH = 18.8 ± 1.9 kJ/mol. For the EuGdCuSe3, two (Tα↔β = 1494 K, ΔHα↔β = 14.8 kJ/mol, Tβ↔γ = 1530 K, ΔHβ↔γ = 4.8 kJ/mol) and for EuErCuSe3 three polymorphic transitions (Tα↔β = 1561 K, ΔHα↔β = 30.3 kJ/mol, Tβ↔γ = 1579 K, ΔHβ↔γ = 4.4 kJ/mol, and Tγ↔δ = 1600 K, ΔHγ↔δ = 10.1 kJ/mol). The compounds melt incongruently at the temperature of 1588 K, ΔHmelt = 17.9 ± 1.8 kJ/mol and 1664 K, ΔHmelt = 25.6 ± 2.5 kJ/mol, respectively. Incongruent melting of the phases proceeds with the formation of a solid solution of EuSe and a liquid phase.

Аннотация: Magnetization reversal processes in the NiFe/FeMn exchange biased structures with various antiferromagnetic layer thicknesses (0–50 nm) and glass substrate temperatures (17–600 °C) during deposition were investigated in detail. Magnetic measurements were performed in the temperature range from 80 K up to 300 K. Hysteresis loop asymmetry was found at temperatures lower than 150 K for the samples with an antiferromagnetic layer thickness of more than 10 nm. The average grain size of FeMn was found to increase with the AFM layer increase, and to decrease with the substrate temperature increase. Hysteresis loop asymmetry was explained in terms of the exchange spring model in the antiferromagnetic layer.

Аннотация: Рассмотрен неитеративный подход синтеза бинарных фазовых голограмм для получения комплексных массивов оптических вихрей. Данный подход не требует выполнения обратного фурье-преобразования и позволяет получать желаемые массивы оптических вихрей с заданными топологическими зарядами. Показано, что данный метод позволяет, в том числе, получать комплексные оптические поля, содержащие структуры из оптических вихрей. Предложенный метод может найти применение для приложений, связанных с взаимодействием света с веществом, таких как оптические ловушки и оптические пинцеты.

Аннотация: We report on the analysis of intensive and extensive barocaloric properties and their sensitivity to deuteration of complex oxyfluorides (NH4)3VOxF6−x (x: 1, 2) undergoing a similar sequence of structural phase transitions. Due to the high sensitivity to hydrostatic pressure and the strong disordering of six-coordinated anionic fluoro-oxygen species, (NH4)3VO2F4 and (ND4)3VO2F4 crystals demonstrate the highest barocaloric efficiency at low pressure, p = 0.1 GPa, during the phase transition from the initial cubic phase: barocaloric coefficients reach large values |ΔSBCE|/p ≈ 400 J/(kg K GPa) and ΔTAD/p ≈ 80 K/GPa. Anionic, [VOF5] → [VO2F4], and cationic, [ND4] → [NH4] substitutions are accompanied by a decrease in the disorder of structural units in the cubic phase, which leads to a decrease in changes in entropy and temperature under pressure. The contribution of thermal expansion of the crystal lattice to the total intensive and extensive barocaloric effects is large and amounts to about 30–40%.

Аннотация: In this work, a numerical-analytical model of reflection coefficient for rough soil surface in wide frequency band was proposed. The field of reflected wave from the rough soil surface is presented as the sum of secondary fields from an infinite set of elementary horizontal scattering plates (with a given average size). The field from each elementary scattering plate is represented as an average field from the result of stochastic interference of an infinite set of coherent elementary sources of secondary waves. The vertical position of the elementary sources is determined by the stochastic height of the soil surface within elementary plate. The case of the coherent component and the total value (coherent+diffuse components) of reflection coefficient is considered. On the basis of the created model of reflection coefficient, a broadband method for simultaneously retrieved the root-mean-square deviation of the stochastic soil surface heights and volumetric soil moisture was developed. The results have a wide application value both for single-frequency and multi-frequency radar and radiometric methods of soil moisture measuring.

Аннотация: In this article, in a wide frequency range from 300 MHz to 2 GHz at a temperature of 20C, the validation of Dobson's, Schmugge's, and Mironov's (with one, two, and three soil water relaxations) dielectric models was carried out using four samples of typical agrosoils taken from the arable layer. Variations in the clay fraction, dry bulk density, and organic matter content of soil samples ranged from 32% to 56%, from 1.1 g/cm3 to 1.7 g/cm3, up to 6.9%, respectively. It is shown that the Mironov's model with two relaxations (M2) has the best accuracy in describing the measured relative complex permittivity (RCP) spectra for all soils in average. The coefficient of determination (R2) and root-mean square error (RMSE) appeared to be equal of Rε'2=0.907 (RMSEε'=0.83) for real and Rε''2=0.960 (RMSEε'' =0.89) for imaginary parts of RCP, when comparing the measured and calculated RCPs. Error of soil moisture retrieval, based on M2 dielectric model and the observations of reflection coefficient at nadir was estimated. For four agricultural soils, it is shown that the retrieved volumetric soil moisture values with the determination coefficient R2=0.975 and RMSE =2% coincide with the true values of soil moisture. It has also been found that small inaccuracies (several tens of percent) in determining the dry bulk density and clay content of soils have practically no effect on the error in retrieving the volumetric soil moisture.

Аннотация: In this work, the approach of ultra-wide band pulses synthesizing is proposed using a broadband low-cost log-periodic dipole antenna and a vector network analyzer. Synthesis of UWB pulse (duration of 2.2ns) became possible due to minimization of antenna dispersion by compensation of amplitude and phase-frequency distortions introduced by the antenna into radiated and received pulse. The method had been developed for a down-looking antenna in a monostatic radar configuration. The antenna return loss was calculated using the model of two-port linear network with S-parameters. To calibrate the model, an original amplitude-phase method was proposed that requires measuring the antenna's return loss when the antenna is located only at several heights above the reflecting surface (metal sheet). In this case, the antenna return loss in an empty room does not need to be measured. The proposed method for synthesizing UWB pulses does not require changes in the design of the antenna and can be implemented as an additional software calibration of the antenna-feeder path. The proposed method of UWB pulses synthesizing can be implemented using miniature, low-cost vector network analyzers for environment remote sensing from unmanned aerial vehicle using the UWB impulses.
