Аннотация: It is shown that non-Heisenberg exchange interaction should be taken into account to reproduce the magnetic phase diagram of La(1-x)A(x)MnO(3) (A = Ca, Sr) using only effective exchange parameters and spins. The formation of the four-spin exchange arises from carrier hopping and coincides with the critical concentration metal-dielectric transition. The two- and four-spin exchange parameters are determined by Monte Carlo simulations.

Аннотация: The material CuB2O4 presents a variety of phases in the B - T phase diagram, caused by the frustration and the Dzialoshinskii - Moriya interaction. In order to investigate the nature of the phase transitions, a B-11- NMR experiment on CuB2O4 has been performed under an applied magnetic field along the a- axis down to 0.4 K. A new incommensurate - incommensurate phase transition has been found at 0.8 K under a field of 0.5 T. Further, another phase transition has been observed at 4.7 K under a field of about 2 T, which is consistent with the transition reported by the neutron diffraction experiment.

Аннотация: The features of the dependence of the bulk coefficient of thermal expansion of the (1-x)Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 solid solution studied in the series of x = 0-0.8 in the temperature range from 100 to 750 K are reported. The obtained data and observed anomalies of thermal expansion are compared with dielectric properties, heat capacity, and the phase diagram of concentration. The anomalous and lattice constituents of deformation and of the coefficient of thermal expansion are analysed and the data on deformation are used to estimate the Burns temperature and the mean square polarization of the samples found to decrease with the decrease of the PbTiO3 concentration.

Аннотация: We have calculated the F=1 ground state of a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate trapped harmonic potential with an applied Ioffe-Pitchard magnetic field. The vortex phase diagram is found in the plane spanned by perpendicular and longitudinal magnetic fields. The ferromagnetic condensate has two vortex phases which differ by winding number in the spinor components. The two vortices for the F-z=-1 antiferromagnetic condensate are separated in space. Moreover, we considered an average local spin \[(S) over right arrow]\ to testify to what extent it is parallel to magnetic field (the nonadiabatic effects). We have shown that the effects are important at vortex cores.

Аннотация: The heat capacity of NaNb1_xTaxO3 solid solutions was measured in the temperature range 100 to 770 K. The step-like change of phase transition temperature is observed in the T-x phase diagram at concentration x = 0.55. The obtained results are in a good agreement with the data of dielectric studies. The 23Na MAS NMR spectra were obtained at Larmor frequency 79.35 MHz using a Bruker AVANCE 300 spectrometer. The quadru-polar coupling constant, (CQ=e2qQ/h) and asymmetry parameter (n) were determined by computer fitting of the NMR line shape using the DMFit software. The found parameters show that solid solution structure is NaTa03-based at 0.7<X ?1 and NaNbO3-based at 0?x?0.5. The spectra in the intermediate region (0.5<x?0.7) can be described at a reasonable accuracy when assuming the coexistence of NaTaO3 and NaNbO3 structures. Аннотация: Double fluoride salts (NH4)3M4+F7 (M4+: Sn, Ti, Ge, Si) demonstrate a high efficiency of using chemical pressure as a tool for control and tuning structural ordering/disordering, sensitivity to hydrostatic pressure, successions of the phase transitions, etc and, as a result, for purposeful variation within a wide range of parameters of barocaloric effect (BCE). The conventional and inverse BCEs near the triple points were found on the T − p phase diagrams, combination of which can be used to construct original cooling cycle in narrow temperature and pressure ranges. Reconstructive transformation between two cubic phases, Pm3-m ↔ Pa3-, realized in (NH4)3SnF7 at atmospheric pressure and in (NH4)3TiF7 at p ˃ 0.4 GPa are characterized by rather low thermal hysteresis, δT0 = 1 K, and a great entropy change, ΔSBCE = 110–152 J (kg · K)−1, depending on the size of the central atom. At above 300–350 K, a contribution to BCE associated with the regular thermal expansion of the crystal lattice becomes comparable to entropy and temperature changes under pressure in the region of the phase transitions. An analysis of the absolute, relative and integral barocaloric characteristics of (NH4)3M4+F7 compounds showed their high competitiveness with respect to other barocaloric materials considered as promising solid-state refrigerants.

Аннотация: We report the influence of anisotropy and texture on elasto(ElCE)- and baro(BCE)-caloric effects in single-crystal and ceramic (NH4)2SO4. Inverse extensive and intensive ElCE in ceramics, (ΔSElCE)cer = 87 J/kg·K; ΔTAD = - 11.6 K), as well as in a single crystal along the ferroelectric axis a, (ΔSElCE)a = 115 J/kg·K; (ΔTAD)a = - 16 K, significantly exceed BCE, ΔSBCE = 75 J/kg·K; ΔTAD = - 9.8 K, even at low pressure ~ 0.3 GPa. Caloric parameters of ammonium sulphate are comparable with those for promising solid-state refrigerants.

Аннотация: The Pb2Fe2-xMnxGe2O9 (x = 0.43) orthorhombic antiferromagnet single crystals have been synthesized by a modified pseudo-flux technique and their magnetic and magnetodielectric properties have been investigated. It has been established that partial substitution of highly anisotropic Mn3+ ions for iron ones significantly affects the magnetic structure of the crystal. Under magnetization of the crystal along the rhombic b and c axes, magnetization jumps have been detected, which are indicative of the occurrence of orientational transitions identified as first-order ones. No weak ferromagnetism characteristic of the pure crystal in the rhombic a axis direction has been detected. The field dependences of the magnetization for the pure and Mn-doped crystals have been analyzed using the thermodynamic potential that takes into account the crystal symmetry. It has been shown that, in the Mn-substituted crystal, the antiferromagnetic vector in the ground state is parallel to the rhombic b axis; in this state, weak ferromagnetism has not been observed. Under magnetization along the b axis, a conventional spin-flop transition occurs. The orientational transition under magnetization along the c axis has been attributed to the reorientation of the antiferromagnetic vector relative to the a axis with the simultaneous occurrence of a weak ferromagnetic moment along the c axis. Magnetic phase diagrams of the Mn-doped crystal for the magnetic fields H||b and H||c have been built. In the Mn-doped crystal, at E||c and H||c, the orientational transition-induced magnetodielectric response jump has been detected, which is higher than the jumps observed for the undoped crystal by a factor of 3. The magnetodielectric properties of the pure and Mn-doped crystals have been analyzed using their magnetic phase diagrams.

Аннотация: In this study, the conventional and inverse barocaloric effects (BCE) in ferroelectric NH4HSO4 are reported. Maximum extensive and intensive BCE near order–disorder phase transition can be achieved at low pressure p≤0.1 GPa. Large thermal expansion of the crystal lattice plays a very important role in the developing conventional BCE and conversation between BCE of different sign in the narrow temperature range.

Аннотация: Taking into account the real crystalline structure of the CuO 2 plane within the spin-fermion model and using the diagram technique, the spin-polaron concept of the fermionic excitations in cuprate superconductors is implemented. It is shown that an account of the on-site scattering processes leads to considerable binding energy of the spin-polaron quasiparticles. An account of the two-site spin-fermion scattering processes results in the energy spectrum and spectral properties of the spin-polaron quasiparticles which agree well with experimental data on cuprate superconductors.

Аннотация: We present and analyze high-resolution alpha-, sigma-, and pi-polarized absorption spectra related to d-d electronic transitions in tetragonal metaborate CuB2O4 where copper Cu2+ ions occupy two crystallographically distinct 4b and 8d positions. The spectra are characterized by exceptionally rich fine structure in the spectral range of 1.4-2.4 eV. Six zero-phonon (ZP) lines originating from the electronic transitions within the Cu2+ ions in both positions are distinguished and identified. Symmetry analysis explains polarization properties of the ZP lines in the 8d positions but only partially explains them in the 4b positions. Reliable assignment of all six ZP lines to specific transitions allowed us to calculate genuine cubic Dq and tetragonal Ds and Dt crystal-field parameters for both positions. We show that the (3r(2) - z(2)) state, the energy of which is the measure of the Jahn-Teller splitting, is the highest 3d state for both types of Cu2+ ion positions. Using the obtained crystal-field parameters as the reference values, we estimated Dq, Ds, and Dt for several other cuprates with different Cu-O bond lengths. In particular, the 3d level splitting in La2CuO4, Nd2CuO4, CuGeO3, Sr2CuO2Cl2, and Cu3B7O13Cl was analyzed. Our estimates suggest that the Jahn-Teller splitting in some of these cuprates is larger than it was assumed previously.

Аннотация: The formation of the exchange interaction between HS Co3+ ions, which are excited in LaCoO3, is studied within the multielectron approach. Two main contributions appear to be antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic (FM). When the ground state is LS, the total interaction is AFM. The crossover to the HS state may result in the FM ordering. The mean-field magnetic phase diagrams on the plane spin gap-temperature have been calculated without and with spin-orbital interaction in the HS term. Without spin-orbital interaction the reentrant magnetic order is possible. The spin-orbital coupling removes the reentrant phase transition and stabilizes the LS state. For known from experimental data values of the spin gap and exchange interaction, the ideal stoichiometric LaCoO3 is very close to the LS–HS crossover and magnetic ordering border. The violations of local coordination and symmetry of the Co3+-oxygen complexes that take place in the intergrain boundaries, at the surface of single crystals, and in the thin films on the strained substrate, may result in the formation of the HS state and FM order for such materials.

Аннотация: A detailed study of the effect of temperature and pressure on heat capacity, entropy and hysteresis phenomena near the ferroelectric phase transition in ammonium sulfate (AS) was performed. An analysis of experimental results within the framework of the phenomenological theory showed that taking into account the temperature-dependent part of the anomalous entropy leads to a significant increase in the barocaloric effect (BCE). The maximum values of extensive and intensive BCE near the tricritical point are outstanding: ΔSmaxBCE≈85 J/kgK, ΔTmaxAD≈12 K and can be achieved at low pressure ∼0.5 GPa.

Аннотация: Three-dimensional periodic tin structures were synthesized by filling pores in silicon opals with a sphere diameter of 194 nm (Sn190) and 310 nm (Sn300). The samples were examined by the ultra-small-angle x-ray diffraction method, energy dispersive x-ray microanalysis and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the inverse opal structure consists of tin nanoparticles inscribed in octahedral and tetrahedral pores with diameters of 128 nm and 70 nm for the sample Sn300, and 80 nm and 42 nm for the sample Sn190. The study of the magnetic properties of the samples by SQUID magnetometry showed that magnetization reversal curves exhibit hysteretic behavior. The mechanisms of magnetic flux pinning in the samples depend on the size of the tin nanoparticles. Tin nanoparticles in Sn300 behave like a classical type-I superconductor. The hysteretic behavior of the magnetization reversal curves at low magnetic fields is due to the formation of a network of superconducting contours in Sn300. These superconducting contours effectively trap the magnetic flux. The octahedral tin nanoparticles in Sn190 remain type-I superconductors, but smaller tetrahedral particles behave like type-II superconductors. Type-I and II superconducting particles in Sn190 lead to the coexistence of different mechanisms of flux pinning These are flux trapping by superconducting contours at low magnetic fields and flux pinning by tetrahedral particles due to the surface barrier at high magnetic fields.
