Аннотация: Исследовано распространение лазерного луча через слой гибридно-упорядоченного нематика с поверхностной линией дисклинации, состоящий из доменов с радиальной конфигурацией нематического директора на пленке поликарбоната. Ориентационная структура в объеме домена трансформируется в планарную одноосную, задаваемую линией дисклинации, либо в гомеотропную под действием магнитного поля. Получена зависимость интенсивности света, прошедшего через слой, от магнитного поля, прикладываемого перпендикулярно поверхности полимера. Оптическое пропускание сопровождалось интерференционными минимумами и максимумами. Представлена модель интерференции света, основанная на двулучепреломлении, учитывающая рассеяние на ориентационно-структурных неоднородностях доменного ансамбля. Из рассмотрения свободной энергии жидкого кристалла и эффектов двулучепреломления выведено аналитическое выражение, устанавливающее зависимость между интенсивностью света и напряженностью магнитного поля, совпадающее с экспериментом.
The propagation of a laser beam through a layer of a hybrid ordered nematic on a polycarbonate film is studied. The nematic has a surface disclination line consisting of domains with a radial configuration of the nematic director. The orientational structure in the domain volume can be transformed into a planar uniaxial structure defined by a disclination line or into a homeotropic one under the influence of a magnetic field. The dependence of the light intensity transmitted through the layer on the magnetic field applied perpendicular to the polymer surface is obtained. Optical transmission was accompanied by interference minima and maxima. Light interference model based on birefringence which takes into account scattering by the orientation-structural inhomogeneities of the domain ensemble is presented. Considering the analysis of the liquid crystal free energy and the birefringence effects, an analytical expression is derived. It establishes the relationship between the light intensity and the magnetic field strength, which coincides with the experiment.

Аннотация: We investigate the domain structure formation and magnetization processes in thin permalloy films with in-plane and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy by using micromagnetic simulation. We show that the films of thicknesses less than a critical value Lcr are in the monodomain state, and their magnetization processes are specified by the in-plane anisotropy. Above the critical thickness Lcr, the perpendicular anisotropy dominates, leading to the formation of the stripe domain structure that significantly complicates the magnetization reversal. The values of the critical thickness, parameters of the domain structure, and the saturation field obtained from the micromagnetic simulations are compared with the corresponding values calculated using analytical expressions derived by Murayama in the framework of the domain structures theory.

Аннотация: Present work focuses on detailed temperature-dependent X-ray diffraction, Raman scattering, domain configuration, and photoluminescence (PL) studies in the (Ba0·85Ca0.15) (Zr0·10Ti0.90)O3 (BCZT) ceramics. The comprehensive Raman spectroscopy analysis in the present work not only validates the presence of the intermediate orthorhombic phase in BCZT, but also provides evidence of another transition: rhombohedral R3c phase to R3m at low temperature. Temperature behaviour of the lowest frequency transverse optical mode (soft E (TO) phonon) and hard modes was studied. Temperature dependence of peak positions, intensities, and linewidths of Raman phonon modes signalled the presence of phase transitions near −50 ± 5 °C, 0±5 °C, 35±5 °C and 110 ± 10 °C. Evolution of domain morphology occurring at phase transitions above room temperature was studied by piezoresponse force microscopy technique. Analysis of PL spectra revealed disorder/heterogeneity in the sample and indicated the existence of self-trapped excitons. PL spectra are composed of four distinct colour components (~2.55eV:blue, ~2.32eV:green, ~2.08eV:orange and ~1.78eV:red).

Аннотация: The Bi2(Sn1-хFeх)2O7 (х = 0, 0.1, 0.2) compounds have been synthesized by the solid-state reaction technique. The structure of the synthesized compounds has been investigated in the temperature range of 80–500 K using the thermal expansion and ultrasound damping coefficients and IR spectroscopy. The shift -type structural transitions for the composition with х = 0.2 in the low-temperature region has been established. The effect of iron ions on the phase boundaries of the polymorphic transitions in the Bi2Sn2O7 compound has been observed. Softening of the phonon modes near the phase transitions at different iron concentrations has been found.

Аннотация: The coefficient of directed transmittance of a stretched polymer-dispersed liquid crystal film with a defect-free single-domain liquid crystal droplet structure formed by a stretched surfactant-doped film and the polarization degree of forward-transmitted light in the visible and near-infrared spectrum ranges are studied. Results are presented for the 5CB, E7, and E44 nematic liquid crystals. Dependences of the transmission coefficient and polarizing ability of the film on the photodetector field of view are studied. Relationships allowing one to determine film parameters at which the transmission coefficient and polarizing ability of the films simultaneously reach values close to limit ones (0.5 and ±1.0, respectively) are obtained in the Foldy–Twersky and anomalous diffraction approximations.

Аннотация: We present the theoretical model to predict the spectral position of Rayleigh anomalies emerged in hybrid system consisting of periodic array of plasmonic nanodisks embeded into the middle of defect layer of 1D photonic crystal (PhC). The spectral positions of these new emerged Rayleigh anomalies agree well with the results of exact simulations with Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method.

Аннотация: Dependence of the director tilt angle of nematic liquid crystal (LC) under conical anchoring from the two-component polymer mixture composition has been studied. We varied the ratio of poly(isobutyl methacrylate) (PiBMA), which specifies a conical anchoring for the nematic liquid crystal LN-396, and poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) assigning a tangential alignment for the same nematic. An oblique incidence light technique to determine a tilt angle has been used. It has been shown that the tilt angle increases from 0∘ to 47.7∘ when PiBMA:PMMA ratio changes in the range 30:70 to 100:0. The specific optical textures viewed under the polarizing microscope and proper orientational structures have been considered for various compositions of the polymer films. An electric field action on the formed orientational structures has been investigated. The obtained results are promising for the application in various electro-optical LC devices with a conical anchoring in which the director tilt angle is a crucial parameter: a controlled diffraction gratings, an electrically operated achromatic rotators of linear light polarization, etc.

Аннотация: Using numerical micromagnetic modeling, we have investigated the development of domain structure and magnetization reversal in multilayer thin-film structures. The permalloy (Ni80Fe20) magnetic layers had the inplane uniaxial and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. We found that as the thickness of nonmagnetic interlayers decreases, the in-plane configuration of magnetic moments in the permalloy layers transforms from a single domain state to stripe domains, which is caused by the increase of magnetostatic interaction between layers. In structures with "thick" interlayers, even weak magnetostatic interaction enforces the neighboring single domain permalloy layers to have opposite orientations of magnetic moments. The saturation field of such samples increases linearly with the number of layers. By analyzing the dynamic characteristics of multilayers, we determined the optimum number of layers ensuring the maximum conversion efficiency of wideband microwave microstrip sensors of weak magnetic fields.

Аннотация: Исследовано оптическое пропускание гибридно-упорядоченного нематического слоя с поверхностной линией дисклинации, деформированного импульсным магнитным полем. Получены выражения для времен реакции на полевое воздействие и релаксации жидкого кристалла к недеформированному состоянию. Время реакции оказалось существенно больше расчетного значения и сопоставимым с длительностью импульса магнитного поля. Выведены зависимости интенсивности света от разности фаз между обыкновенным и необыкновенным лучами с учетом рассеяния. Для процесса релаксации получено хорошее совпадение экспериментальной и расчетной временных зависимостей интенсивности лазерного излучения, прошедшего через весь слой жидкого кристалла, за исключением тонкого переходного приповерхностного слоя. Аномалия хода кривой релаксации в переходном слое рассмотрена в рамках известных модельных представлений.
The optical transmission of a hybrid-ordered nematic layer with a surface disclination line, strained by a pulsed magnetic field, is studied. The expressions for the reaction times to the field action and relaxation of a liquid crystal to an untrained state are obtained. The experimental reaction time turned out to be significantly longer than its calculated value and comparable to the magnetic field pulse duration. The light intensity dependences on the phase difference between the ordinary and extraordinary rays, taking into account scattering are derived. For the relaxation process, good agreement is obtained between the experimental and calculated time dependences of the laser radiation intensity transmitted through the entire liquid crystal layer, with the exception of a thin transitional near-surface layer. The anomaly in the course of the relaxation curve run in the transition layer is considered within the framework of the known model concepts.

Аннотация: Charge transfer plasmons (CTPs) that occur in different topology and dimensionality arrays of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) linked by narrow molecular bridges are studied. The occurrence of CTPs in such arrays is related to the ballistic motion of electrons in thin linkers with the conductivity that is purely imaginary, in contrast to the case of conventional CTPs, where metallic NPs are linked by thick bridges with the real optical conductivity caused by carrier scattering. An original hybrid model for describing the CTPs with such linkers has been further developed. For different NP arrays, either a general analytical expression or a numerical solution has been obtained for the CTP frequencies. It has been shown that the CTP frequencies lie in the IR spectral range and depend on both the linker conductivity and the system geometry. It is found that the electron currents of plasmon oscillations correspond to minor charge displacements of only few electrons. It has been established that the interaction of the CTPs with an external electromagnetic field strongly depends on the symmetry of the electron currents in the linkers, which, in turn, are fully governed by the symmetry of the investigated system. The extended model and the analytical expressions for the CTPs frequencies have been compared with the conventional finite difference time domain simulations. It is argued that applications of this novel type of plasmon may have wide ramifications in the area of chemical sensing.
