Аннотация: A top-down nanofabrication approach was used to obtain silicon nanowires from silicon-on-insulator wafers using direct-write electron beam lithography and plasma-reactive ion etching. Fabricated with designed pattern silicon nanowires are 0.4, 0.8, 2 μm in width and 100 nm in height. The devices can be applied in future medical diagnostic applications as novel biosensors with detection principle based on the changes in electrical characteristics of the silicon nanowires functionalized with thiol-containing molecules.

    Talbot effect based on a Raman-induced grating / V. G. Arkhipkin, S. A. Myslivets // Phys. Rev. A. - 2019. - Vol. 100, Is. 6. - Ст. 06383, DOI 10.1103/PhysRevA.100.063835. - Cited References: 28. - This work was supported by the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) through Grant No. 19-12-00203. . - ISSN 2469-9926. - ISSN 2469-9934
Аннотация: We theoretically study the Talbot effect resulting from Raman-induced grating based on periodic spatial modulation of the Raman gain and dispersion in the field of a standing pump wave. Features of integer and fractional Talbot effects are demonstrated for one- and two-dimensional (1D and 2D) Raman-induced gratings. It is shown that the intensity of diffraction images can increase due to Raman amplification in the grating. Glass-shaped diffraction patterns are demonstrated for 2D gratings. It is also shown that in the vicinity of the Talbot planes there are planes in which the diffraction patterns are spatially compressed and the intensity becomes greater. The results expand the possibility of using the Talbot effect in various applications.

Аннотация: A detailed study of the effect of temperature and pressure on heat capacity, entropy and hysteresis phenomena near the ferroelectric phase transition in ammonium sulfate (AS) was performed. An analysis of experimental results within the framework of the phenomenological theory showed that taking into account the temperature-dependent part of the anomalous entropy leads to a significant increase in the barocaloric effect (BCE). The maximum values of extensive and intensive BCE near the tricritical point are outstanding: ΔSmaxBCE≈85 J/kgK, ΔTmaxAD≈12 K and can be achieved at low pressure ∼0.5 GPa.

Аннотация: We study the effect of Coulomb repulsion between oxygen holes on the London penetration depth λ based on the concept of spin-polaron nature of Fermi quasiparticles in cuprates superconductors. It is shown that for the generally accepted values of the parameters of the spin-fermion model, taking into account the Coulomb interaction, both the one-site Hubbard Up and interaction between the holes on next-nearest-neighbor oxygen ions V2, allows one to achieve a much better agreement of the calculated temperature dependencies of the value λ−2 with the experimental data in La2−xSrxCuO4 with optimal doping.

Аннотация: Bismuth ferrite films have been synthesized by the burst-mode deposition of the BiFe0.8Co0.2O3 solid solutions onto object glasses. The surface morphology of the BiFe0.8Co0.2O3 films has been examined. The effect of electron doping implemented by substitution of cobalt for iron in the BiFe0.8Co0.2O3 films on their magnetic, electrical, and galvanomagnetic properties has been investigated at temperatures of 77-600 K in magnetic fields of up to 12 kOe. The negative magnetoresistance has been observed, which changes its sign in the region of formation of magnetically heterogeneous states and attain its maximum value above room temperature. It has been established that the magnetoresistance is caused by the competition of electron hoppings and localization of electrons in a magnetic field. Using the Hall measurements, the carrier type has been determined. A model of the change in the curriers sign upon heating due to the shift of the chemical potential relative to the impurity subband has been proposed.

Аннотация: Based on the results of in situ electron diffraction study of the solid-state reaction and electrical resistivity measurements on the Al/Ag thin films with an atomic ratio of Al : Ag = 1 : 3, the temperature of the reaction onset has been established and a model of the structural phase transitions has been proposed. The solid-state reaction begins at 70°C with the formation of the Al–Ag solid solution at the interface between the aluminum and silver nanolayers. It has been found that, in the course of the reaction, the intermetallic compounds γ-Ag2Al → μ-Ag3Al are successively formed. It is shown that the possibility of the formation of the μ‑Ag3Al phase during the solid-state reaction in the Al/Ag thin films depends on the aluminum-to-silver ratio, while the formation of the μ-Ag3Al phase begins only after all fcc aluminum has reacted.

rare-earth cobalt oxides -- multiplicity fluctuations -- structural -- magnetic -- electrical -- and dilatation properties
Аннотация: The structural, magnetic, electrical, and dilatation properties of the rare-earth NdCoO3 and SmCoO3 cobaltites were investigated. Their comparative analysis was carried out and the effect of multiplicity fluctuations on physical properties of the studied cobaltites was considered. Correlations between the spin state change of cobalt ions and the temperature dependence anomalies of the lattice parameters, magnetic susceptibility, volume thermal expansion coefficient, and electrical resistance have been revealed. A comparison of the results with well-studied GdCoO3 allows one to single out both the general tendencies inherent in all rare-earth cobaltites taking into account the lanthanide contraction and peculiar properties of the samples containing Nd and Sm.

Red shift -- Crystal field theory -- Nephelauxetic effect -- SrMgAl10-yGayO17: Mn4+ -- Plant growth LED light
Аннотация: The discovery of novel Mn4+-doped oxide red phosphor with suitable spectrum for plant growth is a hot issue in the recent years due to the characteristic red photoluminescence of 2Eg → 4A2 transition in Mn4+ ions. Generally, the emission position of Mn4+ is hard to tune because of specific crystal field in most phosphors. In this work, tunable luminescence property with obvious red shift in the spectra is observed in the Mn4+-doped SrMgAl10-yGayO17 red phosphor via simple substitution of Ga3+ for Al3+, and crystal field theory and nephelauxetic effect are employed to explain this phenomenon. Meanwhile, the Ga3+ dopant changes the shape of the spectra because Ga3+ dopant guides the replacement site of Mn4+ and changes the luminescence center. Improved emission intensity is obtained because appropriate Ga3+ doping leads to larger band gap and reduces non-radiative transitions. Phosphor-converted LED (pc-LED) devices fabricated with blue chip (470 nm) and the as-obtained SrMgAl10-yGayO17:1.0%Mn4+ phosphors emit bright blue and red light, which fit the absorption regions of plant pigments well, thus SrMgAl10-yGayO17:Mn4+ phosphor can be a candidate for plant growth LED light.

Environmental catalysis -- Nanostructure -- Gasification -- Oxidation -- Mossbauer spectroscopy
Аннотация: Nanocomposite Fe–Al oxide catalysts were prepared by the melting of iron and aluminum nitrates with the subsequent calcination in air at different temperatures. It was found that the catalysts calcined at 450 °C are more active in the oxidation of CO than the catalysts calcined at 700 °C. X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that all the catalysts consist of hematite, α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles, and Al2O3 in an amorphous state. Iron oxide is the active component, which provides the oxidation of CO, while alumina is a texture promoter. The increase in the calcination temperature leads to a minor increase in the average size of hematite nanoparticles and an insignificant decrease in the specific surface area. Kinetic measurements showed that the oxidation of CO over the Fe–Al catalysts calcined at 450 and 700 °C proceeds with the activation energy of 61–69 and 91 kJ/mol, respectively. This means that the low-temperature and high-temperature catalysts contain different active species. Temperature-programmed reduction with CO indicated that the decrease in the calcination temperature improves the reducibility of the Fe-Al nanocomposites. According to 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, the low-temperature catalysts contain hydrated iron oxides (acagenite and ferrihydrite) and a significant amount of highly defective hematite, which is absent in the high-temperature catalyst. These species can provide the enhanced activity of the low-temperature catalysts in the oxidation of CO.

multicomponent vanadates -- structural features -- magnetic properties -- phase transitions -- chemical pressure
Аннотация: The structural, thermal, static magnetic, and resonance properties of the low-dimensional NaCuFe2(VO4)3 compound obtained by the solid-phase synthesis have been investigated. In the temperature range of 110–300 K, the electron spin resonance in the X band with a g factor of 2.008 has been detected. The magnetic properties of a sample with a high frustration level in the paramagnetic, antiferromagnetic, and disordered states have been examined. A shift of the Neel temperature to the high-temperature region in an external magnetic field has been observed. The origin of the disordered magnetism in NaCuFe2(VO4)3 are discussed. The features of substitution of sodium for lithium on the physical properties of the ACuFe2(VO4)3 (A = Na, Li) system have been established. It is shown that the chemical pressure changes the crystal lattice parameters, spacings between magnetic ions, and crystallite size, which is reflected in the physical properties of the material.

fluorescein -- eosin Y -- erythrosin B -- dianion -- PCM -- time-dependent density functional theory
Аннотация: Fluorescein and its halogenated derivatives representing a family of homologous dyes with the gradual substitution of halogen atoms for hydrogen ones are widely used in biomedicine as fluorescent probes. This stimulates the intense experimental and theoretical studies of their fluorescent properties in aqueous solutions. However, the theoretical calculations are complicated by the necessity of taking into account the effect of a solvent (water) in the explicit form and the need for effective basic sets. This is especially important for the dyes that contain heavy atoms. In this study, the quantum-chemical investigations of the dianionic form of fluorescein and its Br- and I-substituted derivatives (eosin Y and erythrosin B) have been carried out using the time-dependent density functional theory (B3LYP functional) implemented in the GAMESS software suite. The effect of a solvent has been considered in the framework of the modified Thomas polarizable continuum model. The calculations have been made for vertical (absorption and emission) excitations in the adiabatic approximation and at the nonequilibrium solvation. The results obtained for the nonequilibrium solvation are in excellent agreement with the experimental data for fluorescein and its halogenated derivatives.

Аннотация: A new patented method for the synthesis of nanosized powders of indium(III) hydroxide and oxide using the strong base anion exchange resin AV-17-8 as a precipitate agent was proposed. The effect of anions of the initial indium salt and the influence of the process duration, temperature, and counterions of resin such as hydroxide or carbonate on the yield of indium(III) hydroxide during the anion resin exchange precipitation were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, electrical conductivity measurement method, and atomic absorption analysis. Based on the obtained data, the mechanism of the anion resin exchange precipitation of indium(III) hydroxide was suggested. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry, elemental analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that impurity-free monophasic In2O3 powders with an average particle size of 10-15 nm and specific surface area of 62-73 m2/g were formed after heat treatment of as-prepared products at 400 °C.

nanoparticle -- surface plasmon resonance -- photochromic process -- pulsed laser radiation
Аннотация: We have studied the dynamic and static processes occurring in disordered multiparticle colloidal Ag aggregates with natural structure and affecting their plasmonic absorption spectra under pico- and nanosecond pulsed laser radiations, as well as the physical origin responsible for these processes. We have shown that depending on the duration of the laser pulse, the mechanisms of laser modification of such aggregates can be associated both with changes in the resonant properties of the particles due to their heating and melting (picosecond irradiation mode) and with the particle shifts in the resonant domains of the aggregates (nanosecond pulses) which depend on the wavelength, intensity, and polarization of the radiation. These mechanisms result in formation of a narrow dip in the plasmonic absorption spectrum of the aggregates near the laser radiation wavelength and affect the shape and position of the dip. The effect of polydispersity of nanoparticle aggregates on laser photochromic reaction has been studied.

Аннотация: Employing the finite element and computational fluid dynamics methods, we have determined the conditions for the fragmentation of space bodies or preservation of their integrity when they penetrate into the Earth's atmosphere. The origin of forces contributing to the fragmentation of space iron bodies during the passage through the dense layers of the planetary atmosphere has been studied. It was shown that the irregular shape of the surface can produce transverse aerodynamic forces capable of causing deformation stress in the body exceeding the tensile strength threshold of iron.
