Levitation of a cylindrical permanent magnet over a high-temperature superconductor cooled by liquid nitrogen can be accompanied by spontaneous oscillations and rotation. The reason for spontaneous rotation of the magnet is magnetization inhomogeneity induced by the temperature gradient. An experiment was carried out on the levitation of Nd–Fe–B magnets over a composite high-temperature superconductor. The experimental results confirm that the rotation frequency depends on the difference in the magnetization values in its upper and lower halves of the magnet. Methods for controlling the rotation frequency of a levitating magnet are proposed.

Аннотация: The structure, transport characteristics, real and imaginary parts of the impedance components and electric polarization of the HoXMn1-XS (X = 0.1 and 0.2) system have been investigated in the temperature range of 80-500 K in magnetic fields of up to 12 kOe. The morphology of synthesized samples has been studied. The influence of the magnetic field on the transport characteristics, on both direct and alternating currents of holmium manganese sulfides, have been established. The negative effects of DC magnetoresistance in the region of the magnetic phase transition and positive AC magnetoimpedance up to 4% in the paramagnetic region have been established. The critical temperatures of the existence of the electric polarization have been determined. At a substitution concentration of X = 0.1, the activation character of the relaxation time versus temperature has been found. The diffusion contribution for the composition with X = 0.2 has been established by the impedance hodograph.

UV pump-x-ray probe -- molecular spectroscopy -- ultrafast dynamics -- potential energy surfaces -- x-ray absorption
Аннотация: In theoretical simulations of a UV + x-ray pump-probe (UVX-PP) setup, we show that frequency detuning of the pump UV pulse acts as a camera shutter by regulating the duration of the UVX-PP process. This two-photon absorption with long overlapping UV and x-ray pulses, allowing for high spectral resolution, thereby provides information about ultrafast dynamics of the nuclear wave packet without the requirement of ultrashort pulses and controlled delay times. In a case study of carbon monoxide, the calculated UVX-PP spectra of the O1s−12π1 and C1s−12π1 core-excited states show different vibrational profiles. The interference of intermediate vibrational states reveals details of nuclear dynamics in the UVX-PP process related to a variable duration time controlled by the UV detuning. Both O1s−12π1 and C1s−12π1 pump-probe channels display a splitting of the spectral profile, which however is associated with different physical mechanisms. At the O1s−12π1 resonance, the observed dispersive and non-dispersive spectral bands intersect and result in destructive interference.

Аннотация: Low-dimensional organic–inorganic metal halides have recently attracted extensive attention because of their various structures and distinguished photoelectric properties. Herein, we report a series of new zero-dimensional organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides: (TMEDA)3Bi2Cl12·H2O, (TMEDA)3Bi2Br12·H2O, (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O, and (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O [TMEDA = N,N,N′·trimethylethylenediamine]. (TMEDA)3M2X12·H2O (M = Bi or Sb, X = Cl or Br) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n, and (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma. (TMEDA)3M2X12 possesses a zero-dimensional structure with the metal halide ions of [MBr6]3− isolated by the organic TMEDA2+ cations. Interestingly, the (TMEDA)5Sb6Cl28·2H2O structure consists of a combination of corner-connected octahedra [Sb4Cl18]6− and edge-shared [Sb2Cl10]4−, which is quite rare. The light emission of all these compounds was measured, and (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O exhibits the most intense luminescence. Upon 400 nm ultraviolet light excitation, (TMEDA)3Sb2Br12·H2O exhibited strong broadband yellow emission centered at 625 nm with a full-width at half-maximum of ∼150 nm originating from self-trapped excitons. This work suggests the possibility of new types of hybrid halides by introducing different metal centers and probing the structural evolution and photoluminescent properties, serving as a reference for the relationship between structure and luminescent performance and demonstrating their potential use as phosphors in light-emitting diodes.

Аннотация: In this study, the problem of strong Coulomb interactions in topological superconducting wire is analyzed by means of the density-matrix-renormalization-group (DMRG) approach. To analyze properties of edge states in the BDI-class structure, a quantity called Majorana polarization is used. From its dependence on wire length and an entanglement-spectrum degeneracy, topological phase diagrams are obtained. The DMRG calculations for the Shubin-Vonsovsky-type model of the wire show the transformation of phases with Majorana single and double modes (MSMs and MDMs, respectively) under the increase of onsite and intersite correlations. In particular, we demonstrate different scenarios including the possibilities of both induction and suppression of the MSMs and MDMs. It is shown that in the strongly correlated regime, the contributions of single-particle excitations to the Majorana-type states significantly decrease at low magnetic fxields. Moreover, the t-J*-V model is derived allowing to study the effective interactions and improve the DMRG numerics. It is found out that in the limiting case of the effective Hamiltonian with infinitely strong onsite repulsion, t model, the topological phases are destroyed. Finally, the ways to probe the MSMs and MDMs via the features of caloric functions are discussed.

Аннотация: The coefficient of directed transmittance of a stretched polymer-dispersed liquid crystal film with a defect-free single-domain liquid crystal droplet structure formed by a stretched surfactant-doped film and the polarization degree of forward-transmitted light in the visible and near-infrared spectrum ranges are studied. Results are presented for the 5CB, E7, and E44 nematic liquid crystals. Dependences of the transmission coefficient and polarizing ability of the film on the photodetector field of view are studied. Relationships allowing one to determine film parameters at which the transmission coefficient and polarizing ability of the films simultaneously reach values close to limit ones (0.5 and ±1.0, respectively) are obtained in the Foldy–Twersky and anomalous diffraction approximations.

Polymer-dispersed liquid crystal film -- liquid crystal droplets -- light transmission -- angular distribution of scattered light
Аннотация: A model to describe light scattering by polymer film containing of monolayer of liquid crystal droplets with inhomogeneous anchoring of liquid crystal molecules at the polymer-droplet interface is developed. It is based on the interference approximation of the wave scattering theory. The director field distribution in the droplet volume is determined by solving the free energy density minimization problem using the relaxation method. The spatial distribution of droplets in the layer is described by the hard disks model. The amplitude scattering matrices of individual droplets are found in the anomalous diffraction approximation. The algorithm for numerical analysis of the characteristics of light scattered in a polymer film containing droplets at homogeneous and inhomogeneous surface anchoring is described in terms of the partial filling factors of the monolayer film. Electrically controllable symmetry breaking effect of angular distribution of light scattered by films containing droplets with inhomogeneous anchoring at the polymer-droplet interface is described and experimentally confirmed.

Polymer dispersed liquid crystal -- Nematic droplet -- Ionic surfactant -- Anchoring transition -- Director configuration -- Optical texture
Аннотация: In search of a substance able to function as an anionic surfactant applied for the electrically-induced anchoring transitions in liquid crystals, the compound 4-heptyloxybenzoate benzyl dodecyldimethylammonium (HOBBDDA) has been synthesized. Its orienting influence on nematic liquid crystal 4-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) has been tested. HOBBDDA dissolved up to 1.4%in 50 droplets dispersed in polymer film does not change the tangential surface anchoring inherent to polyvinyl alcohol matrix used. Homeotropic surface anchoring is realized if the HOBBDDA content exceeds 1.7%. The molecules of the surfactant in 5CB dissociate into anions and cations. The anions modify the surface anchoring under the action of DC electric field both in the normal and inverse mode. The mixture of HOBBDDA and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide can function as a binary ionic cationic surfactant which significantly expands the prospects for using the ionic-surfactant method to control liquid crystal materials. Аннотация: Based on the nonequilibrium Keldysh technique in the atomic representation, the effect of inducing a varied population of magnetic states of a spin dimer interacting with electrons transported through a system in a zero magnetic field was studied. In order to find the filling numbers of the quantum states of the system under the strong nonequilibrium condition, a system of kinetic equations was derived and solved by the method of nonequilibrium diagram technique for Hubbard operators. Numerical analysis of these equations made it possible to reveal nonequilibrium renormalizations when accounting for strong spin-fermion correlations.

spin accumulation -- interface states -- hybrid structures -- Hanle effect -- iron silicide
Аннотация: Spin accumulation effect in Fe3Si/p-Si structure with low boron doped silicon substrate was found. Calculated spin lifetimes are comparable with results reported earlier but for structures with highly doped semiconductors (SC) with or without a tunnel barrier introduced between the SC and ferromagnet (FM). Electrical characterization of a prepared Fe3Si/p-Si diode allowed the determination of possible reasons for the pronounced spin signal. Analysis of the forward bias I-V curve revealed a Schottky barrier at the Fe3Si/p-Si interface with a height of φBp = 0.57 eV. Then, using impedance spectroscopy, we observed interface states localized in the band gap of silicon with energy of E LS = 40 meV. Such states most probably cause the observed spin signal. We believe that in our experiment, spin-dependent hole extraction was performed via the interface states resulting in the minority spin accumulation in the silicon valence band. The observed effect paves the way to the development of different spintronic devices based on FM/SC structures without dielectric tunneling barriers.
