Аннотация: The magnetic susceptibility and magnetic resonance measurements of an amorphous compound Bi2CuO4 have been carried out. It was pointed out, that a part of Cu2+ ions stays in the paramagnetic state down to T=4,2 K. The magnitude of the effective exchange integral in amorphous Bi2CuO4 has been estimated. The magnetic resonance measurements revealed the existance of the magnetic phase transition to spin-glass state at T=100 K.

Аннотация: The specific heat from 3K to 15K and the Raman spectra were measured on the As2S3 glass. The specific heat data were fitted using two different models of the vibrational state density, i.e. the phonon-fraction model and the model of lognormal distribution of frequencies. We have shown that the excess vibrational state density which governs the specific heat behaviour gives only a little contribution to the intensity of Raman scattering in the boson peak region.

Аннотация: The problem of the spectrum of magnetopolaron states of a strongly correlated conducting canted antiferromagnet is solved. The approach used to study the spectrum is based on an atomic representation and a diagram technique for Hubbard operators. This approach makes it possible to include strong intra-ion interactions in a first-principles way, and to obtain the dispersion equation for the magnetopolaron spectrum for arbitrary values of the magnitude of the spin, temperature, and magnetic field. In the vicinity of the spin-flip transition an analytic expression is obtained for the spectrum of magnetopolaron states that goes beyond the framework of the quasiclassical approximation. Аннотация: The results of absorption, Faraday rotation and magnetic circular dichroism measurements for glasses with the composition of LiB3O5 + Pr2O3 are presented. The effective wavelength of the transition giving the main contribution to Faraday rotation in these glasses is determined. The contributions of several f-f transitions to Faraday rotation are separated and their magnetooptical activities are evaluated in comparison with the activity of the f-d transition. Аннотация: Faraday rotation (FR) spectral, field, and temperature dependencies in oxide glasses with small additions of paramagnetic elements are investigated. Formation of ferrite nanoparticles in amorphous glass matrices is revealed by X-ray diffraction. Particles have crystal structure similar to spinel structure, their dimensions are about 10-24 nm. The FR field dependencies are typical for ferrimagnetic or superparamagnetic substances depending on particle size. Strong FR increase at the samples cooling (more than twice for some samples) in the temperature interval 105-273 K is observed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: Magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, specific-heat, and positive muon spin relaxation (?SR) measurements have been used to characterize the magnetic ground state of the spinel compound CuGa2O4. We observe a spin-glass transition of the S = 1/2 Cu2+ spins below Tf = 2.5 K characterized by a cusp in the susceptibility curve which is suppressed when a magnetic field is applied. We show that the magnetization of CuGa2O4 depends on the magnetic history of the sample. Well below Tf, the muon signal resembles the dynamical Kubo-Toyabe expression reflecting that the spin freezing process in CuGa2O4 results in a Gaussian distribution of the magnetic moments. By means of Monte Carlo simulations, we obtain the relevant exchange integrals between the Cu2+ spins in this compound.

Аннотация: Magnetic susceptibility, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical absorption have been studied in a glass system 20La(2)O(3)-22Al(2)O(3)-23B(2)O(3)-35(SiO2 + GeO2) with a part of La2O3 substituted by Gd2O3 in different concentrations. Positive Weiss constants have been found in more heavily doped glasses and ascribed to clustering of Gd3+ ions. Computer simulations of the EPR spectra show that the short-range ordering in the environment of the Gd3+ ions is well preserved. The relative distribution widths of the ligand coordinates are less than 2%. In the more heavily doped glasses the EPR spectra are superpositions of signals arising from isolated ions and ferromagnetic clusters. The increase of Gd3+ concentration is shown to change substantially the strong optical absorption edge while only small changes of f-f absorption band characteristics are observed. This difference is associated with the different effect of the Gd ion clustering on the mechanisms of the strong absorption in the ultraviolet region and the f-f absorption.
