Аннотация: The temperature evolution of the current-voltage characteristic (CVC) of a "break junction" with metal-type conductivity on the polycrystalline La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 high-temperature superconductor is investigated. The CVC exhibits gap peculiarities and hysteresis, which is observed in the region of negative differential resistance. The experimental results are described well in terms of the Kummel-Gunsenheimer-Nicolsky theory for an S-N-S junction (S is a superconductor, N is a normal metal) this theory takes into account multiple Andreev reflection of quasiparticles. It is shown that the shape of the CVC and the existence and the shape of hysteresis are determined by the ratio of "long" and "short" grain boundaries in the polycrystal under investigation. Аннотация: Composites Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 + Y3Fe5O12 modeling random network superconductor-ferrimagnetic-superconductor have been prepared and their transport properties (temperature dependences of resistivity rho and critical current density j(c), current-voltage characteristics) have been studied. Below the superconducting transition temperature T-m the rho(T) dependences exhibit a kink at some temperature T-m. The crossover of current-voltage characteristics from ohmic-like behavior in range T-m/T-c to non-linear one below T-m is observed. Transport properties of the 'benchmark' composites Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 + Y3Al5O12 are typical for network superconductor-insulator-superconductor Josephson junction. The behavior observed for Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 + Y3Fe5O12 composites is attributed to peculiarities of supercurrent carriers tunnelling through ferrimagnetic barriers. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Аннотация: The problem of designing high-resistivity soft magnetic materials based on 3d-metal nanocrystalline films is discussed. To increase the electrical resistivity, nanogranular composites are proposed; they consist of superparamagnetic particles embedded into a dielectric matrix. To obtain the required soft magnetic properties in such composites, it is necessary to realize magnetic ordering due to the effects of magnetic interaction between nanoparticles. As an example, magnetic films that exhibit good high-frequency properties in a range up to several hundreds of megahertz are presented. (C) 2004 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The time evolution of the magnetoresistance of bulk YBCO + CuO composites at T = 4.2 K in constant applied magnetic fields was studied to clarify the mechanism of hysteretic behavior of magnetoresistance R(H) of granular HTSC. The composites represent "model" granular HTSC with weakened Josephson coupling between superconducting (YBCO) crystallites. It was found for the first time that on the ascending branch of R(H) dependence, the resistance at H = const decreased with time while on the descending branch, the resistance increased with time in ail applied constant magnetic field. In the range of low magnetic fields (below the minimum point of the descending branch of the R(H) dependence), the resistance at H const decreased again. Similar measurements performed oil pure polycrystalline YBCO at T = 77.4 K have shown that the behavior of evolution of resistance with time is similar to that observed for the composite. This proves the peculiarity of time evolution of maignetoresistance to be a common feature of granular HTSCs. The behavior revealed is well described by the model Of granular HTSC, where the intergrain media is in an effective magnetic field which is the superposition of the external field and the field induced by superconducting grains. The time evolution of resistance reflects the time relaxation of magnetization of HTSC grains due to the intragrain flux Creep Processes. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The broadening of the resistive transition in magnetic field and isotherms of magnetoresistance of bulk composites Y-Ba-Cu-O + CuO have been studied. These composites exhibit large magneto-resistive effect in a wide temperature range below T (C) due to weakening of Josephson coupling in this system. The broadening of the resistive transition and magnetoresistance are explained well by the Ambegaokar-Halperin (AH) model for phase slip in Josephson junctions. The magnetic field dependence of pinning potential in the intergrain boundaries deduced from AH model found out to be similar to that of critical current of an array of Josephson junctions. The values of pinning energy point out that the large magneto-resistive effect observed in the composites results from flux flow-like processes at the intergrain boundaries.

FERROMAGNETIC IRON
   EXCHANGE

Аннотация: The importance of studying Fe-Mn-C alloys is related to their wide use as constructional materials in mechanical engineering. In this work an effort has been made to elucidate the physical origin of the magnetization in austenitic steels by calculating the electronic structure of grain boundaries. To theoretically investigate the magnetic properties of a crystal of ferromagnetic bcc iron, the wave functions of the iron atom calculated in view of the spin polarization of a core by the Hartree-Fock method with local exchange-correlation potentials have been used as base functions. This has made it possible to optimize the choice of a zero approximation for the description of the electronic states of ferromagnetic iron and to attain good agreement with the experimental values of the magnetic moment (A mu(theor) = 2.23A mu(B), A mu(exp) = 2.218A mu(B)), of the exchange splitting of the crystal term P-4 (Delta(theor) = Delta(exp) = 0.112 Ry), and of the cross-sections of the Fermi surface. A similar approach has been used to investigate the magnetic states of clusters (nanoclusters) based on the method of scattered waves. The approach developed for clusters of the alloy under investigation makes it possible to calculate the alloy magnetic properties in relation to the cluster size for a varied lattice parameter.

Аннотация: The aim of the work is to elucidate the origin of magnetization presence in austenitic Fe86Mn13C steel after dynamic loading. The observation of microstructures in the region of transition from FCC austenitic Fe86Mn13C steel to FK12 + FK14 type of Frank-Kasper tetrahedral close packed structure is described. We used the methods of optical microscopy, electron microscopy, electron diffraction and X-ray-diffraction to investigate the phase transition region. Changes of local magnetization were estimated by induction method. To explain the magnetization origin of the sample consisting of austenite grains and intergranular layers, which have Frank-Kasper's structure (FK12 + FK14) typical of beta-Fe-Mn, the local electronic structure has been investigated for intergranular layers. The local electron structure of FK12 and FK14 clusters have been simulated by method of self-consistent field to understand the nature of non-zero magnetization of the Fe87Mn13 alloy exposed by shock deformation. It was shown, that numbers of states with upward and downward spins are not equal. Therefore the occurrence of magnetization is possible. (c) 2009 Published by Elsevier Ltd

Аннотация: The effect of grain boundaries on magnetoresistance (MR) of manganites have been investigated by the comparative analysis of the properties of single-crystal and polycrystalline (La0.5Eu0.5) 0.7Pb0.3MnO3. While MR of the single crystal is maximum near the Curie temperature and vanishes in the low-temperature region, the polycrystalline (La0.5Eu0.5)0.7Pb 0.3MnO3 sample exhibits high MR in the low-temperature region. In order to clarify the origin of the low-temperature MR, the transport and magnetic properties of the polycrystalline (La0.5Eu 0.5)0.7Pb0.3MnO3 in magnetic fields have been supplemented by study of magnetic properties and specific heat measurements. The results obtained could be attributed to spin-dependent tunneling between ferromagnetic grains through insulating antiferromagnetic grain boundaries. © 2010 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Аннотация: The structural, magnetic, electrical, and thermoelectric properties of GdXMn1-XS (0.01 <= X <= 0.3) solid solutions synthesized for the first time on the basis of alpha-MnS have been studied experimentally in the temperature range 77-1000 K in magnetic fields up to 10 kOe. The synthesized samples are antiferromagnetic semiconductors with an NaCl-type cubic lattice typical of a-MnS. Both concentration (X-c = 0.3) and temperature (T-c = 450 K) metal-insulator phase transitions have been observed. The concentration metal-insulator transition is accompanied by a decrease in resistivity and thermopower by twelve and two orders of magnitude, respectively, with the change in conductivity from p-type to n-type.
