Аннотация: The effect of cation nonstoichiometry and variable-valence samarium ions on the thermoelectric and structural characteristics of manganese sulfide is studed. Nonstoichiometry leads to a change in the thermopower sign in the antiferromagnetic region in a magnetic field and a decrease in the thermopower in the paramagnetic region. It is shown that the thermopower and Nernst–Ettingshausen coefficient of samarium-substituted manganese sulfide change their signs in the vicinity of structural and electronic transitions established from the thermal expansion coefficient. A decrease in the sound attenuation in a magnetic field is found. A correlation between the temperatures of the change of the sign of the Nernst–Ettingshausen effect and the change in electrosound in a magnetic field is established and explained within the model of carrier diffusion in the phase transition region. The conductivity control by the ultrasound is demonstrated.

Аннотация: The MnXTm1‒XSe (0 ≤ Х ≤ 0.2) solid solutions have been first synthesized and their structural, magnetic, and transport properties have been studied in the temperature range of 80–1000 K and magnetic fields of up to 12 kOe. The surface morphology of the samples has been examined and the chemical analysis has been carried out. It is shown that the valence change with the increasing substitution concentration is accompanied by a change in the lattice parameter and a decrease in the magnetic moment of the samples. The Kondo temperatures caused by the manganese and thulium subsystem have been found in the low- and room-temperature regions. The temperature of localization of small-radius polarons has been determined. A drastic decrease in the relaxation time in the range of the manganese ion percolation through the lattice in the MnXTm1‒XSe system has been established. The change of the current carrier type upon variation in the temperature and substitution concentration was determined from the Seebeck coefficient. A high-temperature extremum of thermopower was revealed, which is explained within the framework of the Anderson model.

    Near-unity PLQY and high anti-thermal quenching red luminescence from one-dimensional hybrid manganese chloride for efficient and stable white light-emitting diodes / B. Su, M. S. Molokeev, R. Аннотация: The discovery of novel Mn2+-based metal halides with excellent luminescence properties and thermostability is particularly of great importance for solid-state lighting (SSL). Herein, a novel one-dimensional hybrid manganese chloride (TMA)MnCl3 of a hexagonal system with a P63/m space group is synthesized via a simple saturation crystallization method. Under 443 nm excitation, (TMA)MnCl3 single crystals exhibit a strong broad-band red emission peak at 645 nm originating from the 4T1 → 6A1 transition of Mn2+ ions with a full width at half maximum of 99 nm and a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 98.6%. Moreover, (TMA)MnCl3 shows a high anti-thermal quenching behavior, and the integrated PL intensity still retains 100% of the initial intensity measured at 300 °C, caused by the high structural rigidity. Benefiting from its strong blue light excitation, high PLQY, and excellent thermal stability, a stable white light-emitting diode device is fabricated by combining a 465 nm blue LED chip, green-emitting Lu3Al5O12:Ce3+ and the (TMA)MnCl3 red phosphor with a high color rendering index of 94.3% and a correlated color temperature of 3995 K. This work develops a novel hybrid manganese chloride red-emitter and paves a new path to explore high-performance phosphors excited by blue light for SSL.

Аннотация: Luminescent (C5H13N2S)2[MnBr4] (1) and (C7H17N2S)2[MnBr4] (2) (C5H12N2S = N,N′-diethylthiourea, C7H16N2S = N,N′-diisopropylthiourea) were prepared via solvothermal method, and the structures of these compounds have been resolved using X-ray single crystal diffraction. The structures consist of electrostatically bound MnBr42− anions and organic C5H13N2S+ and C7H17N2S+ cations. The intermolecular N−H···Br and N−H···S hydrogen bonds additionally stabilize crystal structures of 1-2. Upon excitation over broadband covering the range 265 to 515 nm, these compounds show green emission peaking at 526 nm for 1 and 522 nm for 2, which is assigned to the 4T1→ 6A1 electronic transition of Mn2+ from isolated within the crystal structures MnBr42− tetrahedra. The photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of powder 1 is 97 ± 7% for excitation at 440 nm and that of powder 2 is 83 ± 7% for excitation at 365 nm. The high PLQY indicates the absence of noticeable concentration quenching at shortest Mn···Mn distance of 8.11 and 8.73 Å between Mn2+ ions within the structures of 1 and 2. The high-performance photoluminescence of 0D (C5H13N2S)2[MnBr4] and (C7H17N2S)2[MnBr4] compounds demonstrated promising applications in photonics.

Аннотация: We present an extensive study of the luminescence characteristics of Mn impurity ions in a YAl3(BO3)4:Mn crystal, in combination with X-ray fluorescence analysis and determination of the valence state of Mn by XANES (X-ray absorption near-edge structure) spectroscopy. The valences of manganese Mn2+(d5) and Mn3+(d4) were determined by the XANES and high-resolution optical spectroscopy methods shown to be complementary. We observe the R1 and R2 luminescence and absorption lines characteristic of the 2E ↔ 4A2 transitions in d3 ions (such as Mn4+ and Cr3+) and show that they arise due to uncontrolled admixture of Cr3+ ions. A broad luminescent band in the green part of the spectrum is attributed to transitions in Mn2+. Narrow zero-phonon infrared luminescence lines near 1060 nm (9400 cm−1) and 760 nm (13,160 cm−1) are associated with spin-forbidden transitions in Mn3+: 1T2 → 3T1 (between excited triplets) and 1T2 → 5E (to the ground state). Spin-allowed 5T2 → 5E Mn3+ transitions show up as a broad band in the orange region of the spectrum. Using the data of optical spectroscopy and Tanabe–Sugano diagrams we estimated the crystal-field parameter Dq and Racah parameter B for Mn3+ in YAB:Mn as Dq = 1785 cm−1 and B = 800 cm−1. Our work can serve as a basis for further study of YAB:Mn for the purposes of luminescent thermometry, as well as other applications.

Аннотация: The content of transition-metal ions and their valence state for three compositions of NixCuyMn3−x−yBO5 are estimated by the methods of X-ray absorption spectroscopy. In all the three compositions, the copper content does not exceed 0.25. One of the compositions has manganese ions both in the trivalent and bivalent states according to the K-edge position. The calculations of the total energies of various cation-ordered structures using the software package Wien2K show that copper ions predominately occupy one site, namely, 2(2d). The measurements of the magnetic properties show two types of magnetic transitions in all the three compositions, with one of them being in the range of 60–75 K and the other one at 10 K. Based on the exchange interactions calculated in the framework of the empirical model, magnetic ordering temperatures are estimated for two- and three-sublattice structures and the magnetic transition in the range of 60–75 K is supposed to be connected with magnetic moment ordering in sites 2 and 3.

Аннотация: Planar and vertical hybrid structures, which combine ferromagnetic and semiconductor layers are essential for implementation and study of spin transport phenomena in semiconductors, which is crucial for the advancement and development of spintronics. We have developed approaches for the synthesis of Fe3 + xSi1 – x epitaxial thin films and demonstrated the spin accumulation effect in multiterminal devices based on Fe3 + xSi1 – x/Si. Fe3 + xSi1 – x/Ge/Fe3Si and Fe3 + xSi1 – x/Ge/Mn5Ge3 multilayer hybrid structures were synthesized on a Si(111) substrate, study of their structural, magnetic and transport properties were performed. The effect of synthesis conditions on the growth of epitaxial structures and on their magnetic and transport properties was discussed. The results obtained may prove valuable in the development and fabrication of spintronic devices.

Аннотация: The components of the impedance, the impedance of the LuxMn1–xS (x ˃ 0.2) solid solution in the temperature range of 80-500 K and the frequency of 100-106 Hz were studied. A change in the sign of the magnetoimpedance in concentration and temperature is found. The contribution of the reactive and active components to the magnetoimpedance is determined. The correlation of magnetoimpedance temperatures with the temperatures of the maximum attenuation of ultrasound and electrosound has been established. The frequency dependences of the reactive part of the impedance are described in the Cole-Cole model.

Аннотация: To reach the concentration phase boundary between antiferromagnetic Cu2GaBO5 and ferrimagnetic Cu2MnBO5 ludwigites, solid solutions Cu2Mn1−xGaxBO5 (x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.175) were grown by the flux technique using a multi-component solvent based on Bi2Mo3O12 with the addition of Na2B4O7 which significantly influenced the crystal formation and cation composition of the studied compounds. The content of the flux system was corrected taking into account the earlier established relationship of the partition coefficients of Mn2O3 and Ga2O3. The influence of the solvent components on the ludwigite crystallization was analyzed. The maximum size of the grown crystal was 1 × 1 × 4 mm3. The structure and cation composition of the grown compounds were studied using X-ray (X-ray diffraction, EDX (energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy)) and vibrational (Raman) spectroscopy techniques. The phase boundary of Cu2MnBO5–Cu2GaBO5 was found to be in the concentration range of x = 0.15–0.175, corresponding to a change in the monoclinic axis direction and a leap in the lattice parameters. The symmetry evolution of metal–oxygen octahedra for four nonequivalent cation positions was analyzed, and the unique crystal structure of Cu2MnBO5 demonstrated high rigidity relative to the introduction of Ga3+ cations. The polarized Raman spectra of monoclinic ludwigites were obtained and studied for the first time. A comparison of the spectra of the studied samples in both phases and orthorhombic ludwigites was made. A number of spectral features due to the monoclinic distortions in the crystal were found. In agreement with the Raman experiment, the concentration phase boundary was close to 0.15.

Аннотация: The structural, transport, optical, and acoustic properties of a new TmXMn1‒XSe (0 ≤ Х ≤ 0.2) chalcogenide system have been studied in the temperature range of 80–500 K. The morphology and microstructure of the polycrystalline samples have been studied by scanning electron microscopy. Temperatures of maxima of the thermal expansion and sound attenuation coefficients related to the lattice strain and electronic transitions have been determined. The variation in the energy of activation of carriers near the percolation concentration caused by a change in the thulium valence has been revealed. The type of majority carriers has been established from the thermopower data. The temperature range of the anomalous compressibility associated with delocalization of electrons has been found from the temperature dependence of the thermal expansion coefficient. Jahn‒Teller polarons have been found above the percolation concentration using the infrared spectroscopy data.

Аннотация: Mn2+-based hybrid materials have become the hotspot of current research studies owing to their high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), low-cost, environmental friendliness and stability. For the first time, we report the hydrothermal synthesis of two lead-free zero-dimensional luminescent organic-inorganic hybrid compounds, PefH2[MnBr4] (1) and PefH2[MnCl4] (2) (Pef = pefloxacin). They were characterized by elemental analysis, TG-DSC, single-crystal and powder XRD. Compounds 1–2 exhibit a distorted tetrahedral geometry around the manganese(II) metal center, which is isolated from the same centers by bulky pefloxacindi-ium (PefH22+) ions with a Mn···Mn distance of 7.3 Å. Their structures are stabilized by N—H···O, O—H···X (X = Br, Cl), C—H···O and C—H···X hydrogen bands and π–π stacking interaction. Thermal decomposition starts at T › 230°С for 1 and T › 210°С for 2 and proceeds for several stages. Upon UV excitation compounds exhibit a bright green emission with a moderate PLQY of 45% for 1 and 30% for 2. The influence of the halide ion and metal ion on the photoluminescence properties of isostructural compounds PefH2[MX4] (M = Mn, Zn and X = Br, Cl) is discussed.

Аннотация: The structure, transport characteristics, real and imaginary parts of the impedance components and electric polarization of the HoXMn1-XS (X = 0.1 and 0.2) system have been investigated in the temperature range of 80-500 K in magnetic fields of up to 12 kOe. The morphology of synthesized samples has been studied. The influence of the magnetic field on the transport characteristics, on both direct and alternating currents of holmium manganese sulfides, have been established. The negative effects of DC magnetoresistance in the region of the magnetic phase transition and positive AC magnetoimpedance up to 4% in the paramagnetic region have been established. The critical temperatures of the existence of the electric polarization have been determined. At a substitution concentration of X = 0.1, the activation character of the relaxation time versus temperature has been found. The diffusion contribution for the composition with X = 0.2 has been established by the impedance hodograph.

Аннотация: New binuclear MnPt µ-vinylidene complexes Cp(CO)2Mn(µ-C=CHPh)Pt(CN–Ad)(L) [L=PPh3 (1a), P(OPri)3 (2a)] bearing a terminal platinum-coordinated 1-adamantyl isocyanide ligand were prepared by the treatment of Cp(CO)2Mn(µ-C=CHPh)Pt(CO)(L) [L=PPh3 (1b), P(OPri)3 (2b)] with CN-Ad. At the same time the reaction between Cp(CO)2Mn(µ-C=CHPh)Pt(L)2 [L=PPh3 (1c), P(OPri)3 (2c)] and CN-Ad did not proceed. The new complexes were characterized by IR and 1H, 13C, 31P NMR spectroscopy. The molecular structure of Cp(CO)2Mn(µ-C=CHPh)Pt(CN–Ad)[P(OPri)3] (2a) was determined by an X-ray diffraction study. The redox properties of the new complexes and their reactions of chemical oxidation were studied. An influence of the platinum-coordinated 1-adamantyl isocyanide ligand on the properties of the synthesized µ-vinylidene compounds 1a and 2a was revealed.

Аннотация: The effect of anionic substitution on the structural, magnetic, and kinetic properties of chalcogenides of the MnSe1-XTeX system in the temperature range of 77-400K in magnetic fields up to 12 kOe was studied. With an increase in the substitution concentration, changes in the structural and magnetic characteristics, which correlate with changes in the electronic structure, were found. The type and mobility of the main current carriers were determined from the Hall effect measurements.

Аннотация: Mn5Ge3 epitaxial thin films previously grown mainly on Ge substrate have been synthesized on Si(111) using the co-deposition of Mn and Ge at a temperature of 390 °C. RMS roughness decreases by almost a factor of two in the transition from a completely polycrystalline to a highly ordered growth mode. This mode has been stabilized by changing the ratio of the Mn and Ge evaporation rate from the stoichiometric in the buffer layer. Highly ordered Mn5Ge3 film has two azimuthal crystallite orientations, namely Mn5Ge3 (001) [1-10] and Mn5Ge3 (001) [010] matching Si(111)[-110]. Lattice parameters derived a (7.112(1) Å) and c (5.027(1) Å) are close to the bulk values. Considering all structural data, we proposed a double buffer layer model suggesting that all layers have identical crystal structure with P6₃/mcm symmetry similar to Mn5Ge3, but orientation and level of Si concentration are different, which eliminates 8% lattice mismatch between Si and Mn5Ge3 film. Mn5Ge3 film on Si(111) demonstrates no difference in magnetic properties compared to other reported films. TC is about 300 K, which implies no significant excess of Mn or Si doping. It means that the buffer layer not only serves as a platform for the growth of the relaxed Mn5Ge3 film, but is also a good diffusion barrier.
