Аннотация: The temperature and field dependences of the magnetization, the electrical resistivity, and the magnetostriction of bilayer lanthanum manganite La1.4Sr1.6Mn2O7 single crystals and cobalt-doped La1.4Sr1.6(Mn0.9Cu0.1)2O7 are measured. The magnetostriction of the cobalt-doped compound increases as compared to the initial La1.4Sr1.6Mn2O7 compound, and the magnetization and the magnetoresistance of the former compound change substantially. Powder and single-crystal neutron diffraction patterns are used to detect ferromagnetic ordering in La1.4Sr1.6(Mn0.9Co0.1)2O7 at a temperature below TC ~ 45(2) K, and this ordering coexists with antiferromagnetic correlations, which develop at temperatures below TC ~ 80(5) K. © 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Hole-doped manganites -- Thin films -- Magnetic measurements -- Spin-glass behavior -- X-ray magnetic circular dichroism
Аннотация: Magnetic properties of the Pr0.8Sr0.2MnO3 and Pr0.6Sr0.4MnO3 polycrystalline films have been studied using temperature and magnetic field dependences of the static magnetization and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectroscopy. For the both compositions, the difference between the temperature dependences of magnetization obtained in the zero fields cooling (ZFC) and field cooling (FC) modes has been revealed. The ZFC curves demonstrate a pronounced maximum at temperature Tm. It is shown that the Tm value dependence on the magnetic field follows the Almeida-Thouless line typical for the classic spin glass, what allows us to assume the possible spin-glass behavior of the films. Effect of the disorder in a direction of the crystallites easy-axis on the difference between FC and ZFC curves has been discussed also. Magnetic field dependences of the sample magnetization are presented by the hysteresis loops with the shape changing upon temperature variation. This behavior has been attributed to the effect of crystallographic anisotropy and Pr ions. The spectra and magnetic field dependences of XMCD at the Pr L2- and Mn K-edges have been studied at 90 K. The magnetic field dependences of the XMCD at the Pr L2-edge had shown Van Vleck paramagnetism from Pr3+ ions. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

Thin films -- Manganites -- Crystal structure -- Electrical transport -- Electronic properties -- Magnetic circular dichroism
Аннотация: The features of electronic structure of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 Pr0.8Sr0.2MnO3, and Pr0.6Sr0.4MnO3 polycrystalline films of different thickness have been investigated using magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) in the range of 1.1–4.2 eV. The temperature behavior of the samples electrical resistance were also has been studied. It was found that films with high Sr content (0.3 and 0.4) act as high-temperature semiconductors, while the maximum in the temperature dependences of resistivity these films indicates the transition of the samples to the metallic state at some temperature TM-S, which is different for different sample thickness. The films with the lower Sr content (0.2) act as insulators in the used temperature range. The MCD spectra have been decomposed to the Gaussian-shaped lines, and the temperature dependence of intensity of each line has been analyzed in comparison with temperature dependence of the films magnetization and with their electric conductivity type. Different temperature behavior of the intensity of four specified Gaussian-lines was revealed for semiconductor films. In the case of insulating Pr0.8Sr0.2MnO3 samples, the intensity of three specified Gaussian lines changes with the temperature in the same way as the magnetization changed. It was established that the lanthanide (La, Pr) type does not affect the MCD spectra shape for the films with the same electrical conductivity type. Besides, the correlation between the MCD data of the films and their conductivity type was revealed. Due to the detailed analysis of the specified Gaussian lines with taking into account the well-known in the literature absorption bands, lying outside the studied spectral region, the MCD bands for the studied manganite films have been identified with electronic transitions of a different nature.

Characterization -- Growth from solutions -- Single crystal growth -- Manganites -- Magnetic materials
Аннотация: The high-temperature crystallizing phases of fluxes (molten solutions) based on Bi2O3:MoO3 = 1:3 and diluted by Na2CO3 and B2O3 (under varying of Na2CO3:B2O3), and by CuO and Mn2O3 (0 ≤ Mn2O3:CuO ≤ 5) are studied. The conditions of the stable crystallization of Mn2+1−xCuxMoO4, Mn23+O3, Mn2+Mn23+O4, Mn2+1−xCuxMn3+BO4 and Mn2+2−xCuxMn3+BO5 have been found. The influence of MoO3 and Na2CO3 to the crystallization processes of Mn2+- and Mn3+-containing Mn2+1−xCuxMoO4 and Mn2+Mn23+O4 and Mn23+O3 are clarified. The occurrence of the chemical bonds of these types at the crystallization of Mn-heterovalent Mn2+1−xCuxMn3+BO4 and Mn2+2−xCuxMn3+BO5 oxyborates is studied. Single crystal growth techniques of these oxyborates are suggested. The results of the structural and magnetic characterization of some discussed compounds are presented.

Аннотация: The transport and magnetotransport properties of a newly fabricated tunnel structure manganite/depletion layer/manganese silicide have been studied in the current-in-plane (CIP) geometry. A manganite depletion layer in the structure forms a potential barrier sandwiched between two conducting layers, one of manganite and the other of manganese silicide. The voltage-current characteristics of the structure are nonlinear due to switching conducting channels from an upper manganite film to a bottom, more conductive MnSi layer with an increase in the current applied to the structure. Bias current assists tunnelling of a carrier across the depletion layer; thus, a low-resistance contact between the current-carrying electrodes and the bottom layer is established. Below 30 K, both conducting layers are in the ferromagnetic state (magnetic tunnel junction), which allows control of the resistance of the tunnel junction and, consequently, switching of the conducting channels by the magnetic field. This provides a fundamentally new mechanism of magnetoresistance (MR) implementation in the magnetic layered structure with CIP geometry. MR of the structure under study depends on the bias current and can reach values greater than 400% in a magnetic field lower than 1 kOe. A positive MR value is related to peculiarities of the spin-polarized electronic structures of manganites and manganese silicides.

Аннотация: We propose that the apparatus of quantum mechanics of a free atom (in particular, the theory of nj symbols and Rakah-Wigner genealogic coefficients generalized to the case of point groups and widely used in crystal field theory) be used for constructing multielectron bases with allowance for covalence and spin-orbit interaction. This allows us to take into account the electron-electron interaction for 3d ions the most comprehensively. The basis constructed in this way can be used in the generalized strong coupling method for the multiband p-d model in describing the structure of the quasiparticle energy spectrum and physical properties of systems with strong electron correlations. The procedure of construction and computation is demonstrated for the (5)T(2g) term in the d(6) configuration of the transition metal atom in an octahedral field. The mechanism for the emergence of magnetic anisotropy in S ions (Fe(3+) and Mn(2+)) due to covalent mixing of d(6) (L) under bar configurations with a nonzero orbital angular momentum ((L) under bar is a hole in ligands) is demonstrated

Аннотация: Conventional magnetic and transport measurements of the melt-grown mixed-valence manganite (La0.4Eu0.6)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 have been supplemented by a magnetic resonance study. The experimental data support the model of two magnetic phases coexisting in the crystal volume. At a temperature T-*, which is well above Curie temperature T-C, ferromagnetic clusters appear in the sample. These ferromagnetic regions possess a higher conductivity in comparison with the paramagnetic background (majority phase). On cooling through T-C, the magnetization of the spatially confined ferromagnetic clusters of the minority phase freezes in random directions with respect to the magnetization of the ferromagnetic majority phase due to the difference of the exchange interactions at the phase boundaries from the intraphase interactions in sign and value. Such a mixed state is responsible for the observed magnetic glassylike behavior of the system that is characteristic of inhomogeneous magnets. The fluctuations of the magnetic coupling value and sign in the sample volume are related to strong competition between the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions, which, in turn, results from the quenched disorder caused by the random chemical replacement of the perovskite A site of the manganite. A phase-separation state comprised of two different ferromagnetic phases has been used to account for the colossal magnetoresistance phenomenon and the magnetic-field-driven nonlinear conduction found in the crystal.
