Аннотация: This article is the second in a series evaluating the effect of dielectric relaxation processes on the relatively effective complex dielectric permittivity (RCP) of soils. Part II is based on the results of experimental measurements in the frequency range 10 kHz to 8–20 GHz. The broadband dielectric spectrum model includes the high-frequency part as a model of the dielectric mixture and the relaxation part as the sum of three relaxation processes modeled by the Debye and Cole–Cole formulas. For modeling the high-frequency part of the spectrum, the Dobson and Mironov models were considered as possible options. As stated in Part I, the influence of relaxation processes on the imaginary part of the RCP extends up to frequencies of units of gigahertz. The increase in the imaginary part in these models was compensated by unrealistically high values of the specific electrical conductivity of free and bound water. We examined the correspondence of these models to experimental data at frequencies above 2–5 GHz, assuming that the conductivity of bound and free water is zero. The parameters of relaxation processes were found while solving the least-square optimization problem using the technique for determining the continuous distribution of relaxation times (DRTs). Found process parameters depend on the content of clay, organic carbon, and moisture of the samples. The more clay is in the soil, the greater the strength of these processes is. The influence of organic carbon with the conditions being equal consists in the reduction of the real and imaginary parts of RCP.

Аннотация: A range of Eu3+-doped AMoO4 (A = Ca and Ba) phosphors were successfully synthetized, and their crystal structures, optical performance, and temperature measurement sensitivities were investigated in detail. Peak doping concentration of CaMoO4:Eu3+ phosphor was 0.18, while peak doping concentration of BaMoO4:Eu3+ phosphor may be greater than 0.18. Then, temperature-dependent photoluminescence emission spectra of representative CaMoO4:0.09Eu3+ and BaMoO4:0.03Eu3+ phosphors were recorded. CaMoO4:0.09Eu3+ phosphor exhibited abnormal thermal quenching, which was attributed to defects caused by heterovalent substitution of ions and increase in the temperature, and good thermal stability. Finally, the possibility of using both phosphors as optical thermometers was discussed, which exhibited good temperature sensitivity. However, CaMoO4:0.09Eu3+ phosphor exhibited two peak absolute (Sa, 1.28 %K−1 and 1.39 %K−1) and relative sensitivities (Sr, 1.21 %K−1 and 1.20 %K−1). In addition, variation trend of Sr value with temperature was considerably peculiar. Two optimum Sa and Sr values were attributed to abnormal thermal quenching of CaMoO4:0.09Eu3+ phosphor. Peak Sa and Sr values of BaMoO4:0.03Eu3+ phosphor was 12.39 %K−1 and 0.89 %K−1, respectively. In addition, Sa of AMoO4:Eu3+ phosphor was negatively related to Eu3+ central asymmetry, while peak Sr value was more inclined to appropriate ionic central asymmetry.

Аннотация: In this work, the possibility of the remote measurement of reflection coefficient in the ultra-wide frequency range from 425 MHz to 1010 MHz from the board of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using ultra-wide band (UWB) radar was investigated. With this in mind, the antenna-feeder path of UAV UWB radar is calibrated. The calibration process consisted in measuring the reflection coefficient from the brass mesh sheet at various UAV hovering heights. Printed log-periodic dipole antenna was used as transmitter-receiver antenna. As a result, the antenna return loss in an empty-room and the complex antenna response function of the antenna-feeder path of the UAV UWB radar were found. It is shown that the amplitude of the reflected wave from a brass mesh sheet can be measured with root-mean square error (RMSE), RMSE=0.017 1/m and a determination coefficient (R 2 ) of R 2 = 0.967. Therewith the UAV hovering heights measured by the pulse method and the on-board laser rangefinder correlates with each other with R2=0.999 and with RMSE=3.5cm (distance measurement error of the laser rangefinder is ±1cm, surface irregularities of the brass mesh sheet were no more than 1.5cm). Measured in the frequency range from 500 MHz to 900 MHz, the reflection coefficient from fresh lake water by UAV UWB radar with a relative error of no more than 7.5% (practically does not depend on the height of the UAV hovering, approximately from 2.2 m to 5.2 m) coincides with the calculated one by the Stogryn's formulas.

Аннотация: The possibility of using a single-mode–multimode–single-mode fiber-optic structure for remote measurement of temperature by an optical reflectometer is established. Experiments on measuring temperature using a structure with a multimode-fiber length of 10 mm in the temperature range of 30–70°C at wavelengths of 1310 and 1550 nm have been performed. The total length of the single-mode fiber line for reflectometric measurements was 20 km.

Аннотация: Molybdate and tungstate with scheelite-type structure are excellent self-luminescent materials, which can be used as ideal hosts for the doping of rare-earth ions. In this study, a series of Eu3+-activated SrAO4 (A = Mo and W) phosphors were successfully synthesized, and their crystal structures, photoluminescence properties, and temperature measurement performance were analyzed in detail. These phosphors were excited by UV light (291 nm and 247 nm, respectively), with clear energy transfer (ET) (MoO42−→Eu3+ or WO42−→Eu3+). According to fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) and Judd–Ofelt (J–O) theory, compared to SrWO4:0.01Eu3+ phosphor, SrMoO4:0.01Eu3+ phosphor exhibited better thermal stability, with relatively low Sa value (maximum values were 5.082 %K−1 and 20.74 %K−1, respectively), and their Sr values were not significantly different (maximum values were 0.864 %K−1 and 0.83 %K−1, respectively). Sa value was negatively correlated to central asymmetry of Eu3+, but the optimal Sr value tended to be more suitable for central asymmetry of Eu3+. In addition, Eu3+ exhibited stronger central asymmetry as well as covalency of Eu–O bond in SrMoO4. Results reveal that SrMoO4:xEu3+ and SrWO4:xEu3+ can be used for luminescent thermometers.

Аннотация: We consider square and equilateral triangular open acoustic resonators with the C4v and C3v symmetries, respectively. There is a unique property of square and triangular resonators of accidental number fourfold degeneracy of eigenstates that gives rise to twofold-degenerate Friedrich-Wintgen (FW) bound states in the continuum (BICs). Compared to usual FW BICs, the degenerate FW BICs maintain high Q factor in wide range of the size of resonators. That removes the fabrication difficulties of the proper choice of resonator. The presence of degenerate BICs in triangular resonators is extremely sensitive to switch output flows by small perturbations with 100% efficiency.

Аннотация: Single crystals of the Pb2Fe2?xMnxGe2O9 (x = 0.16) antiferromagnet have been grown. Using the specific heat measurements, a Neel temperature of TN = (42.0 ± 0.5) K for the synthesized crystals has been found. It has been shown using the magnetic measurements that, due to the competition between the magnetoanisotropic contributions of the iron and manganese subsystems in the crystals, near a temperature of Tc = 22 K, a spontaneous spin-reorientation transition occurs, the temperature of which in an applied magnetic field changes with the field value and orientation relative to the rhombic axes of the crystal. Based on the analysis of the temperature and field dependences of the magnetization obtained at different orientations of the magnetic field, it has been established that, below Tc, an inclined magnetic structure is formed in the crystal. The antiferromagnetic vector of the inclined structure rotates smoothly in the rhombic bc plane with increasing temperature from a direction close to the b axis at T = 4.2 K and tends to the rhombic c axis at T = Tc. The rotation of the antiferromagnetic vector occurs also at fixed temperatures T < Tc with increasing magnetic field. In the temperature range of Tc < T < TN, the antiferromagnetic vector is oriented along the rhombic c axis. Magnetic phase diagrams of states have been built for different magnetic field orientations relative to the rhombic axes of the crystal. The richest phase diagram is shown to correspond to the orientation H||c and contains, along with the above-listed states, one more inclined phase, in which the antiferromagnetic vector rotates toward the rhombic a axis direction with a change in temperature or magnetic field.

Аннотация: We consider dielectric cavities whose radiation space is restricted by two parallel metallic planes. The TM solutions of the Maxwell equations of the system are equivalent to the solutions of periodical arrays of dielectric cavities. The system readily allows to achieve bound states in the continuum (BICs) of any type including topological BICs as dependent on position and orientation of the cavities relative to the planes and that extremely facilitates experimental studies in comparison to infinite arrays of the cavities. We show the effect of merging of topologically protected BICs that pushes the square asymptotic of the Q factor into the power degree 4 or even 6.

Аннотация: In this paper, the shielded open-circuited probe operating in the wide frequency range from 75MHz to 2GHz is proposed. The probe is made of an SubMiniature version A (SMA) flange connector. The central rod of the SMA connector emerges from a coaxial transition in the flange and shielded by four rods. The robe design allows us to calculate of the probe reflection coefficient S11 used simple analytical transmission line model (TEM wave mode), the parameters of which were calibrated on a set of substances with a known frequency spectrum of permittivity. The refractive index (RI) and normalized attenuation coefficient (NAC) retrieval technique is based on solving the inverse problem of minimizing the residual norm between measured and calculated frequency spectra of reflection coefficient S11. After calibration, the root-mean-square error (determination coefficient) between the measured and calculated module and phase of the reflection coefficient S11 for the sets of calibration media air, distilled water, butanol, pure ice, water solution with NaCl of salinity of 8.9% do not exceed 0.26dB (0.995) and 0.03 rad (0.999), respectively, in the frequency range from 75MHz to 2GHz. The root-mean-square error (determination coefficient) between the measured RI and NAC spectra for four soil cover samples (variation of the clay fraction from 10.5 g/g to 47.6 g/g) using the proposed probe and a precision coaxial cell not exceeds 0.109 (0.993) and 0.057 (0.986), respectively, in the frequency range from 75 MHz to 2 GHz. As a result, it is experimentally shown that RI и NAC can be measured by the proposed non-precision probe with an error comparable to the precision coaxial cell.

Аннотация: В данной работе теоретически исследованы процессы взаимодействия сверхширокополосных (СШП) импульсов длительностью 0,47 нс со слоисто-неоднородными средами сухого снежного покрова. Слоисто-неоднородная структура снежного покрова моделировалась на основе экспериментальных данных о высоте и профиле плотности снежного покрова, которые были измерены в ходе полевых работ на тестовом участке сельскохозяйственного поля в районе пос. Минино, Красноярский край, с 12 ноября 2020 по 21 марта 2021гг. Показано, что водный эквивалент снежного покрова (ВЭСП) с коэффициентом детерминации (R2) R2=0,98 и среднеквадратическим отклонением (СКО) СКО=5,6мм может быть оценен по временной задержки импульса, отраженного от границы снег-почва, при толщине от 4-6 до 39 см и средней плотности от 0,21 до 0,37 г/см3 снежного покрова. Показано, что средняя плотность всей толщи снежного покрова линейно зависит от отношения амплитуд импульсов, отраженных от границ, снег-почва и воздух снег (R2=0,55, СКО=0,04 г/см3). Установленные зависимости позволяют с R2=0,95, СКО=2,9 см оценить высоту снежного покрова. Точность предложенного метода измерения ВЭСП, средней плотности и высоты снежного покрова необходимо дополнительно исследовать в зависимости от вариации температуры, влажности, плотности и гранулометрического состава мёрзлого почвенного покрова, а также при различных влажностях снежного покрова. Особую актуальность полученные результаты приобретают в связи с возможностью реализации данного способа зондирования с борта аэроплатформы, что открывает перспективы создания технологии радарного СШП картирования основных характеристик снежного покрова для использования в системах точного земледелия.
In this work, the processes of interaction of ultra-wideband (UWB) pulses with the duration of 0.47 ns with layered dry snow cover are theoretically investigated. The layered structure of the snow cover was modeled on the basis of experimental data on the height and density profile of the snow cover, which were measured in field on the test plot of an agricultural field in the area of the village. Minino, Krasnoyarsk Territory from November 12, 2020 to March 21, 2021. It is shown that the snow water equivalent (SWE) can be estimated from the time delay of the pulse reflected from the snow-soil interface with the coefficient of determination (R2) R2 = 0.98 and the root-mean-square error (RMSE) RMSE = 5.6 mm in the case of thickness from 4-6 to 39cm and an average density from 0.21 to 0.37 g/cm3 of snow cover. It is shown that the average density of snow cover linearly depends on the amplitude ratio of impulses reflected from the boundaries, snow-soil and air-snow (R2 = 0.55, RMSE = 0.04 g/cm3). The established dependencies make it possible to estimate the height of the snow cover with R2 = 0.95, RMSE = 2.9 cm. The accuracy of the proposed method for measuring SWE, average density and height of snow cover should be further investigated depending on variations in temperature, moisture, density, and texture of frozen soil, as well as under different moisturized conditions of snow. The obtained results are particular relevance in connection with the possibility of implementing this remote sensing method from the UAV, which opens up the prospects for creating a technology for UWB radar mapping of the main characteristics of the snow cover for use in precision farming systems.

Аннотация: In this paper, we investigate the possibilities of ice thickness remote sensing on freshwater lakes based on Sentinel-1 observations. Fr. was selected as a test site. Kurungnakh Island, located in the Lena River delta, was selected as a test site, where 10 lakes with floating and grounded ice were selected. For the test lakes, the time series of backscatting coefficients measured by Sentinel-1 at horizontal-horizontal polarization (EW mode) and at an angle of 18-20 from September 2015 to June 2017 were analyzed. The average lakes ice thickness was estimated based on the Lebedev’s model and air temperature according to the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF ERA5). It is shown that, the dependence between backscattering coefficient and ice thickness (120-140 cm) can be described a linear function (with a standard deviation of 13.5-25.3 cm and a determination coefficient of 0.70-0.79). The preliminary studies shows that the Sentinel-1 radar data is promising for remote sensing of ice thickness on freshwater arctic lakes.

Аннотация: Being a general wave phenomenon, bound states in the continuum (BICs) appear in acoustic, hydrodynamic, and photonic systems of various dimensionalities. Here, we report the first experimental observation of an accidental electromagnetic BIC in a one-dimensional periodic chain of coaxial ceramic disks. We show that the accidental BIC manifests itself as a narrow peak in the transmission spectra of the chain placed between two loop antennas. We demonstrate a linear growth of the radiative quality factor of the BICs with the number of disks that is well described with the developed tight-binding model. We estimate the number of disks when the radiation losses become negligible in comparison to material absorption and, therefore, the chain can be considered as practically infinite. The presented analysis is supported by near-field measurements of the BIC profile. The obtained results provide useful guidelines for practical implementations of structures with BICs opening up horizons for the development of radio-frequency and optical metadevices.

Аннотация: The design of inspection probes for a scanning ferromagnetic resonance spectrometer, which are designed for recording the absorption spectra of electromagnetic energy by local areas of thin magnetic films, is described. The degree of locality is determined by the diameter of the measuring hole of the probe in the range of 0.1–1.0 mm. The sensitivity of the device is significantly increased due to the miniaturization of the heterogeneous measuring resonator and its comparatively high Q factor. A set of replaceable probes makes it possible to cover the frequency range of 0.1–6.0 GHz, the signal-to-noise ratio for a probe with a hole diameter of 0.8 mm, which was measured on a permalloy film with a thickness of 5 nm, is at least 20 dB.

Аннотация: The paper presents a method for measuring the ferromagnetic resonance spectrum in the radio frequency range (4 MHz). A high-frequency generator operating in the autodyne mode was used to measure the magnetic characteristics of thin ferromagnetic films. Theoretical equations for ferromagnetic resonance excitations have been presented. Experimental results for the samples of nanocrystalline thin permalloy magnetic films with low magnetostriction and different values of the anisotropy field were obtained. Ferromagnetic resonance in the radio frequency range proved to be an excellent mean for measuring the value and direction of the magnetic anisotropy field in thin magnetic films.

Аннотация: We consider resonant modes of two dielectric identical particles which can be classified as symmetric and anti symmetric combinations of the resonant modes of individual particles. We show that an approaching of two particles gives rise to an avoided crossing of resonant poles because of interaction between the disks. That in turn results in strong enhancement of the quality factor factor of two disks compared to isolated disks.

Аннотация: Inhomogeneous layered magnetic thin films of amorphous and nanocrystalline Со–Р and Co–Ni alloys are studied via spin-wave resonance. It is found that the formation of a magnetic potential profile specified over the coating thickness leads to characteristic modifications of the spin-wave resonance spectrum. Another important factor that determines the type of modification is the dominant magnetic parameter (the constant of magnetization or exchange coupling).

Аннотация: We demonstrate the possibility of using transparent conducting oxides [aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO), gallium-doped zinc oxide (GZO), indium tin oxide (ITO)] to form Tamm plasmon polaritons in the near-infrared spectral range where the permittivity of oxides is near zero. The spectral properties of the structures are investigated in the framework of the temporal coupled-mode theory and confirmed by the transfer matrix method. It is found that in the critical coupling conditions, the maximal Q-factor of a Tamm plasmon polariton is achieved when a photonic crystal is conjugated with the AZO film, while at the conjugation with the ITO films, the broadest spectral line is obtained. The sensitivity of the wavelength and spectral width of the Tamm plasmon polariton to changes in the oxide film thickness, bulk concentration of a dopant, and angle of incidence is demonstrated.

Аннотация: This paper considers hardware and software for automated analysis of thin magnetic film ferroresonance spectrum to determine the rate of growth and decrease in ferroresonance spectrum (conversion factor parameter). The measuring element of automated system is the strip line which is short-circuited. The measuring unit is used to study Ni 80 Fe 20 permalloy films, with thickness of more than 300 Å. Conversion factor, magnetic permeability μ, uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, ferromagnetic spectrum resonance line width, saturation magnetization are analyzed from 50 MHz to 2 GHz frequency range. The magnetic films are used to design frequency selective filters, phase shifters and weak-field magnetic sensors. The thin magnetic film sensors are high sensitive magnetometers, with wide frequency range, low dimensions and weight [1]. © 2019 IEEE.

Аннотация: The dielectric measurements were made for five organic soils taken from the tundra territories of Alaska, Yamal, and Taimyr, with the content of organic matter varying from 35% to 80%. The measurements were carried out in the temperature range from −30 °C to 25 °C, frequencies from 0.45 to 16 GHz and soil moisture from close to zero to the field moisture capacity. The refractive mixing model was applied to fit the measurements of the soil’s complex refractive index (CRI) as a function of soil moisture, with the values of temperature being fixed. As a result, a respective dielectric model was developed. The amounts of bound and transient water in the thawed and frozen soils were introduced as parameters of the developed model and derived as a function of temperature and content of soil organic matter. The other parameters which concern the CRIs of soil solids as well as bound, transient, and liquid soil water or ice components were derived as a function of temperature. The errors of the proposed model estimated in terms of the values of normalized root-mean-sqaure error for the real and imaginary parts of the soil complex relative permittivity appeared to be 6%–7% and 23%, respectively. The proposed dielectric model can be applied in active and passive remote sensing, in particular, for the SMOS, SMAP, and Aquarius missions after testing in ground-based experiments.

Аннотация: Проведены экспериментальные исследования изменения массы незамерзшей воды, содержащейся в мерзлой Nа-бентонитовой глине в диапазоне температур от -30 до 0 °C и диапазоне массовых влажностей от 0 до 1 г/г с помощью диэлектрического метода. Предложен калориметрический метод измерения удельной скрытой теплоты плавления льда в связанную и несвязанную воду при нагревании мерзлой почвы. Предложен метод измерения скрытой теплоты плавления льда в мерзлой почве в процессе нагревания методом диэлектрических измерений. С целью обоснования предложенной методики проведено сравнение скрытой теплоты плавления льда при нагревании бентонитовой глины, полученной методом дифференциальной сканирующей калориметрии (ДСК), с рассчитанной с помощью диэлектрического метода.
Experimental studies of the change in the mass of unfrozen water contained in frozen Na-bentonite clay in the temperature range from -30 to 0 °C and a gravimetric moistures range from 0 to 1 g/g have been carried out by the dielectric method. The calorimetric method is proposed for measuring the specific latent heat of fusion of ice into bound and unbound water when the frozen soil is heated. The method of dielectric measurements is proposed for measuring the latent heat of fusion of ice in frozen soils during heating. In order to substantiate the proposed technique, the latent heat of fusion of ice in frozen bentonite clay measured by the differential scanning calorimetry during heating was compared with this value obtained by the dielectric method.
