Аннотация: Core–shell FexOy@C nanoparticles (NPs) modified with Ag were studied with x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive elemental mapping, Mössbauer spectroscopy, static magnetic measurements, and optical magnetic circular dichroism (MCD). FexOy@C NPs synthesized by the pyrolysis process of the mixture of Fe(NO3)3 centerdot 9H2O with oleylamine and oleic acid were added to a heated mixture of oleylamine and AgNO3 in different concentrations. The final product was a mixture of iron oxide crystalline NPs in an amorphous carbon shell and Ag crystalline NPs. The iron oxide NPs were presented by two magnetic phases with extremely close crystal structures: Fe3O4 and γ-Fe2O3. Ag is shown to form crystalline NPs located very close to the iron oxide NPs. An assumption is made about the formation of hybrid FexOy@C-Ag NPs. Correlations were obtained between the Ag concentration in the fabricated samples, their magnetic properties and the MCD spectrum shape. Introducing Ag led to a approximately linear decrease of the NPs saturation magnetization depending upon the Ag concentration, it also resulted into the MCD spectrum shift to the lower light wave energies. MCD was also studied for the Fe3O4@C NPs synthesized earlier with the same one-step process using different heat treatment temperatures, and MCD spectra were compared for two series of NPs. A possible contribution of the surface plasmon excitation in Ag NPs to the MCD spectrum of the FexOy@C-Ag NPs is discussed.

Аннотация: In this paper, the influence of alternating current (ac) electrodeposition frequency and waveform is reported on chemical composition, microstructure and consequently magnetic properties of Co-Ni binary alloy nanowire arrays embedded in an alumina template. For sinusoidal and square electrodeposition waveforms the easy axis of magnetization rotates from being parallel to perpendicular orientation to nanowire long axis as the deposition frequency increases from 200 to 800 Hz. The reason for the drastic change of magnetic anisotropy in nanowires is attributed to the increase of cobalt content and the crystal structure phase transformation from fcc-hcp mixture at high Ni content to imp at high Co content. We explain the conversion of magnetic behavior of nanowire arrays in terms of a competition between the shape and magnetocrystalline anisotropies. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The possibility of controlling the aggregation stability of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) stabilized by thioglycolic acid (TGA) is important for implementation of quasi-resonant laser-induced self-assembly. This study examines the influence of irradiation by the UV as well as by the visible light on the photostimulated aggregation of QDs. Different photochemical mechanisms are identified, depending on whether light wavelength falls into an interband transition or the first exciton transition. Irradiation by visible light does not lead to changes in the absorption spectra but decreases luminescence intensity through the detachment of TGA and the formation of dangling bonds, leading to the creation of radiativeless relaxation centers. UV irradiation (in the 300–370 nm range), at an intensity of 0.4 W/cm2, initially (during the first 75 min) leads to the degradation of the stabilizer and QDs’ surface. After 75 min of combined UV and visible light irradiation, a gradual increase in spontaneous aggregation takes place, testifying excessive decrease in stabilizing potential barrier height. Hence, the laser-induced self-assembly of CdTe QDs is recommended to be performed over a time period of between 80 and 100 min after the beginning of low-intensity UV irradiation under conditions equivalent to those applied in this study. © 2016, Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

Аннотация: The theory of exchange narrowing of ferromagnetic and spin-wave resonance linewidths in ferromagnets with the randomly inhomogeneous magnetic anisotropy is developed. The calculation is carried out by the method of averaged Green functions in the framework of the coherent potential approximation (CPA). One- and three-dimensional inhomogeneities with an arbitrary correlation wave number k(c) are considered (r(c)=k(c)(-1) is the correlation radius of the inhomogeneities). The method of the approximate solution of the CPA equation is proposed which has the quick convergence. Effects of exchange narrowing of the magnetic resonance lines and shifts of these lines are calculated in the whole region of the values of the correlation wave number k(c). The approximate analytical expressions for the linewidth of the FMR in the limiting cases of the small and large k(c) are obtained. Large narrowing of the FMR and spin-wave linewidths with the decrease of the correlation, radius of inhomogeneities is the substantiation. of the main advantage of nanocrystalline and amorphous materials over usual polycrystals when they are used at high frequency devices.

Аннотация: Polymer-based dielectric capacitors play a notable part in the practical application of energy storage devices. Graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets can improve the dielectric properties of polymer-based composites. However, the breakdown strength will greatly reduce with the increase of GO content. Hence, the construction of sandwich structure can enhance the breakdown strength without reducing the dielectric constant. Herein, single-layered and sandwich-structured poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-chlorotrifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-CTFE)) nanocomposites with low content of GO nanosheets (1.0 wt%) are prepared via employing a straightforward casting method. Compared with the single-layered composites and pure P(VDF-CTFE), the sandwich-structured composites exhibit comprehensively better performance compared. The sandwich-structured composite with 0.4 wt% GO nanosheets show an excellent dielectric constant of 13.6 (at 1 kHz) and an outstanding discharged energy density of 8.25 J cm−3 at 3400 kV cm−1. These results demonstrate that the growth of the dielectric properties is owing to 2D GO nanosheets and the enhancement of breakdown strength due to the sandwich structure. The results from finite element simulation provide theoretical support for the design of high energy density composites.

Аннотация: The effect of magnetically driven high-frequency rectification in a polycrystalline La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 manganite has been measured at different frequencies of microwave radiation. The magnetic field dependence of a rectified voltage has a broad peak resembling an absorption line, whose shape and position are determined by the radiation frequency. The rectification effect in a polycrystalline manganite sample is related to a ramified network of magnetic tunnel junctions, which is formed by ferromagnetic conducting grains with insulator boundaries. The results of measurements are consistent with a model for the magneto-dependent rectification effect based on the interplay between a spin-polarized current through the tunnel junctions and magnetic resonance induced in the grains forming the junctions. Аннотация: Wax is found on the leaves almost of all plants. Its physicochemical and protective properties are widely discussed in the scientific literature. In the presented work, the influence of the structure of wax on the optical properties in wheat leaves and needles of blue spruce has been revealed for the first time. Long-period ordering was established. The structural elements are nanotubes up to several microns in length and about 150 nm in diameter. The paper presents the influence of a long-period structure on the optical properties and local characteristics of light waves, including the transmission spectrum, the density of photon states, as well as fluorescence spectra and polarization microscopy. Using modern mathematical tools, the main spectral and optical characteristics were calculated using the example of the wax cover of blue spruce and glaucas wheat. Based on calculations that establish the relationship between the structural, spectral and optical properties, the influence of wax structures on the process of photosynthesis was revealed.

Аннотация: Two-dimensional materials such as hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and graphene have attracted wide attention in nanoelectronics and spintronics. Since their electronic characteristics are strongly affected by the local atomic structure, the heteroatom doping could allows us to tailor the electronic and physical properties of two-dimensional materials. In this study, a non-chemical method of heteroatom doping into h-BN under high-energy ion irradiation was demonstrated for the LiF/h-BN/Cu heterostructure. Spectroscopic analysis of chemical states on the relevant atoms revealed that 6 ± 2% fluorinated h-BN are obtained by the irradiation of 2.4 MeV Cu2+ ions with the fluence up to 1014 ions/cm2. It was shown that the high-energy ion irradiation leads to a single-sided fluorination of h-BN by the formation of the fluorinated sp 3-hybridized BN.

Аннотация: A concept of a family of unique backward-wave photonic devices, such as frequency up and down converting nonlinear-optical mirrors, sensors, modulators, filters and amplifiers is proposed. Novel materials are considered, which support coexistence of ordinary and backward waves and thus enable enhanced nonlinear-optical frequency-conversion processes.
