Аннотация: Evolution of resonant frequencies and resonant modes as dependent on the aspect ratio is considered in a dielectric high index spheroid. Because of rotational symmetry of the spheroid the solutions are separated by the azimuthal index m. By the two-parametric variation of a refractive index and the aspect ratio we achieve exceptional points at which the resonant frequencies and resonant modes are coalesced in the sector m=0.

optical parametric oscillator -- phase fluctuation -- frequency deviation operator -- natural spectrum width
Аннотация: A new approach to the quantum analysis of the spectral linewidths of optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) is proposed. The approach is based on introducing a Hermitian frequency deviation operator. The spectral linewidths in the triply resonant OPO above-threshold regime have been calculated. It has been found that the width of the generated spectral line depends on the loss at all interacting frequencies, the photon number of frequency under study, and the threshold photon number of pump. The formula obtained for the spectral width is general; in particular cases, it yields the well-known results. The developed simple approach can be applied to the quantum analysis of the spectra of various oscillatory systems, for example, the multifrequency parametric and non-linear optomechanical interactions and lasers.

Аннотация: The feasibilities and specific features of coherent nonlinear-optical energy transfer from control fields to a negativephase signal are studied, and they are found to stem from the backwardness of electromagnetic waves inherent to negative-index metamaterials. Plasmonic metamaterials that possess negative group velocity for light waves promise a revolutionary breakthrough in nanophotonics. However, strong absorption inherent to such metaldielectric nanocomposites imposes severe limitations on the majority of such applications. Herein we show the feasibility and discuss different nonlinear-optical techniques of compensating such losses, producing transparency, amplification and even generation of negative-phase light waves in originally strongly absorbing microscopic samples of plasmonic metal-dielectric nanostructured composites. © 2009 SPIE.

Аннотация: We investigate extraordinary features of optical parametric amplification of Stokes electromagnetic waves that originate from the three-wave mixing of a backward phonon wave with negative group velocity and two ordinary electromagnetic waves. Such properties were earlier shown to exist only in plasmonic negative-index metamaterials that are very challenging to fabricate. Nonlinear optical photonic devices with properties similar to those predicted for negative-index metamaterials are proposed. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

Аннотация: We present a study of the quantum properties of two light fields used to parametric four-wave mixing in a Raman type atomic system. The system realizes an effective Hamiltonian of beamsplitter type coupling between the light fields, which allows to control squeezing and amplitude distribution of the light fields, as well as realizing their entanglement. The scheme can be feasibly applied to engineer the quantum properties of two single-mode light fields in properly chosen input states.

Аннотация: Backward electromagnetic waves are extraordinary waves with contra-directed phase velocity and energy flux. Unusual properties of the coherent nonlinear optical coupling of the phase-matched ordinary and backward electromagnetic waves with contra-directed energy fluxes are described that enable greatly-enhanced frequency and propagation direction conversion, parametrical amplification, as well as control of shape of the light pulses. Extraordinary transient processes that emerge in such metamaterials in pulsed regimes are described. The results of the numerical simulation of particular plasmonic metamaterials with hyperbolic dispersion are presented, which prove the possibility to match phases of such coupled guided ordinary and backward electromagnetic waves. Particular properties of the outlined processes in the proposed metamaterial are demonstrated through numerical simulations. Potential applications include ultra-miniature amplifiers, frequency changing reflectors, modulators, pulse shapers, and remotely actuated sensors.

Аннотация: Three-wave mixing of ordinary electromagnetic waves and the waves with contra-directed phase and group velocities in the pulsed regimes is shown to be accompanied by unusual transient processes. We have investigated how attenuation and phase mismatch of the coupled waves in the metamaterials change the properties of parametric amplification and the threshold intensity of the pump wave which is of critical importance.
