RESONANCES
Аннотация: We consider bound states in the continuum (BICs) in low-contrast dielectric gratings. It is demonstrated that the BICs originate from the reduced guided modes on the effective dielectric slab with the permittivity equal to the average permittivity of the dielectric grating. In the case of isolated resonances, the positions of BICs can be found from two-wave dispersion relationships for guided leaky modes. In the case of the degeneracy between the two families of leaky modes, the system exhibits an avoided crossing of resonances. In the spectral vicinity of the avoided crossing the transmittance as well as the emergence of BICs is described in the framework of the generic formalism by Volya and Zelevinsky [Phys. Rev. C 67, 054322 ( 2003)] with a single fitting parameter.

    Wannier-Stark states in two dimensions / A. R. Kolovsky // International conference on quantum optics : book of abstracts . - 2018. - P. 52
Аннотация: Wannier-Stark states are the second after Bloch waves fundamental states of a quantum particle in a lattice. These states are well understood in one dimen- sion but their extension into two dimensions continues to surprise researches. In the talk I briefly review main properties of Wannier-Stark states of a quan- tum particle in ‘ordinary’ two-dimensional lattices and then highlight recent results for lattices with flat Bloch bands, where Wannier-Stark states possess interesting topological properties.

Аннотация: In this work we experimentally observe a symmetry protected optical bound state in the continuum(BIC) with zero angular momentum in 1D array of ceramic disks at GHz frequencies. We analyze the dependence of Q factor of BIC on the number of the disks and the level of the material losses. We confirmed theoretical prediction about quadratic growth of the Q factor with the number of the disks and its following saturation due to material losses.

Аннотация: We consider acoustic wave transmission in a non-axisymmetric waveguide composed of a cylindrical resonator of radius R and length L and two cylindrical waveguides of radius rR. The center lines of the waveguides are shifted relative to the center line of the resonator by a distance r0 and relative to each other by an azimuthal angle Δϕ. Under variation of L and fixed Δϕ we find bound states in the continuum (trapped modes) due to full destructive interference of resonant modes leaking into waveguides. Rotation by the angle Δϕ brings complex phases into the coupling strengths of the resonator eigenmodes with propagating modes of the waveguides. As the result interference of neighboring resonances strongly depends on rotation of the waveguide introducing novel way for tuning Fano resonances. In turn rotation of the input waveguide strongly affect the acoustic transmission through the resonator imitating a faucet in wave transmission. Under variation of Δϕ and fixed L we find symmetry protected trapped modes. For Δϕ≠0 these trapped modes contribute to the scattering function supporting high vortical acoustic intensity spinning inside the resonator.

Substituted rare earth cobalt oxides -- Thermoelectric oxide materials -- Ordered and disordered states
Аннотация: Temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity and Seebeck coefficient of the Re0.2Sr0.8CoO3‒δ (Re = Gd, Dy) complex cobalt oxides in the temperature range of 300 – 800 K have been investigated. The effects of ordering in the cation and anion sublattices on the thermoelectric properties has been examined and their comparative analysis has been made. It was found that, in the investigated temperature range, the thermoelectric power factor of the ordered compounds significantly exceeds the analogous parameter of the disordered samples. The temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity was shown to obey the activation law. As the temperature increases, the samples undergo a semiconductor-semiconductor electronic transition with a decrease in the activation energy. The thermoelectric properties of all the samples are shown to be stable in the investigated temperature range. The maximum thermoelectric power factor of the ordered Dy0.2Sr0.8CoO2.67 cobaltite at a temperature of 360 K has been obtained; it amounts to 0.23 µW/(cm·K2), which is a good parameter for this class of materials.

Magnetoimpedance -- Spintronics -- Metal/insulator/semiconductor structures -- Nanosized semiconductors
Аннотация: This article presents the results of a study of the transport properties of metal/insulator/semiconductor (MIS) hybrid structures in alternating current (ac) mode. We prepared a series of samples with different layers of metal, insulator, and semiconductor. We prepared a series of samples with different layers of metal, insulator and semiconductor. Ferromagnetic Fe and non-magnetic Cu and Mn were chosen as metals, the insulators were SiO2 and Al2O3, and n- and p-type Si substrates were used as semiconductors. Temperature dependence of the real part of the impedance showed peculiar peaks below 40К for different combinations of metals, insulators and semiconductors. For all samples the effect of the magnetic field on the transport properties was studied. At low temperatures, the magnetic field shifts peaks toward higher temperatures. Metal magnetic state does not significantly affect this phenomenon. Changing the type of the insulator and its thickness also did not cause any significant effect. However, the effect was observed for samples with different composition. Moreover, the type of conductivity of the substrate, as well as the type of metal, determines the value of magnetoimpedance. The main role in the magnetoimpedance effect is played by recharge of the energy states localized at the insulator/semiconductor interface. This mechanism allows obtaining a MI effect even in “nonmagnetic” MIS structures; magnetoimpedance can be either positive or negative, depending on temperature and frequency. We suggest that the observed ac magnetotransport phenomena could be used for creating magnetic field sensors, working on new principles.

Cholesteric liquid crystal -- Optical Tamm states -- Localization -- Transmission spectrum -- Optical devices
Аннотация: The modes formed by two coupled chiral optical Tamm states localized at the interfaces between a photonic cholesteric liquid crystal conjugated with polarization-preserving anisotropic mirrors have been analytically and numerically investigated. These modes are only excited at the diffracting polarization of incident light. As the cholesteric layer thickness decreases, the spectral splitting of the localized state frequency is predicted. The splitting value depends on the crystal layer thickness. At the nondiffracting circular polarization, the localized modes are not excited, and the system becomes similar to the Fabry-Perot cavity containing an anisotropic helical structure.

Аннотация: We show that a circular periodic array of silicon dielectric cylinders supports nearly bound states in the continuum (BICs) propagating along the cylinders. These propagating nearly BICs with extremely large-Q factors are surrounded by resonant modes weakly leaking into the radiation continuum. We present leaky zones in the form of dispersion curves for complex eigenfrequencies dependent on propagation constant kz, with the wave vector directed along the cylinders in the vicinity of different types of BICs. Symmetry-protected nearly BICs have the resonant width proportional to squared propagation constant Γ∼k2z; the widths of non-symmetry-protected nearly BICs behave as Γ∼(kz−kc)2, where kc and non-symmetry-protected nearly BICs have the resonant width proportional to k4z. The latter propagating nearly BICs can serve for the transmission of a electromagnetic signal paving a way to a different type of optical fiber. We also demonstrate weakly leaking resonant modes which carry orbital angular momentum.

MAGNON BOUND-STATES
   ANTIFERROMAGNETIC CHAIN

   NEUTRON-SCATTERING

Аннотация: In this paper, we present a comprehensive study of magnetic dynamics in the rare-earth orthoferrite YbFeO3 at temperatures below and above the spin-reorientation (SR) transition TSR=7.6K, in magnetic fields applied along the a,b, and c axes. Using single-crystal inelastic neutron scattering, we observed that the spectrum of magnetic excitations consists of two collective modes well separated in energy: 3D gapped magnons with a bandwidth of ∼60meV, associated with the antiferromagnetically (AFM) ordered Fe subsystem, and quasi-1D AFM fluctuations of ∼1meV within the Yb subsystem, with no hybridization of those modes. The spin dynamics of the Fe subsystem changes very little through the SR transition and could be well described in the frame of semiclassical linear spin-wave theory. On the other hand, the rotation of the net moment of the Fe subsystem at TSR drastically changes the excitation spectrum of the Yb subsystem, inducing the transition between two regimes with magnon and spinonlike fluctuations. At TTSR, the Yb spin chains have a well defined field-induced ferromagnetic (FM) ground state, and the spectrum consists of a sharp single-magnon mode, a two-magnon bound state, and a two-magnon continuum, whereas at TTSR only a gapped broad spinonlike continuum dominates the spectrum. In this work we show that a weak quasi-1D coupling within the Yb subsystem JYb-Yb, mainly neglected in previous studies, creates unusual quantum spin dynamics on the low-energy scales. The results of our work may stimulate further experimental search for similar compounds with several magnetic subsystems and energy scales, where low-energy fluctuations and underlying physics could be “hidden” by a dominating interaction.

Kinetic stability -- Atomic structure -- Density functional theory -- Excited states -- Terpenes
Аннотация: The correlation between the kinetic stability of molecules against temperature and variations in their geometric structure under optical excitation is investigated by the example of different organic pheromone molecules sensitive to temperature or ultraviolet radiation using the density functional theory. The kinetic stability is determined by the previously developed method based on the calculation of the probability of extension of any structural bond by a value exceeding the limit value Lмах corresponding to the breaking of the bond under temperature excitation. The kinetic stability calculation only requires the eigenfrequencies and vibrational mode vectors in the molecule ground state to be calculated, without determining the transition states. The weakest bonds in molecules determined by the kinetic stability method are compared with the bond length variations in molecules in the excited state upon absorption of light by a molecule. Good agreement between the results obtained is demonstrated and the difference between them is discussed. The universality of formulations within both approaches used to estimate the stability of different pheromone molecules containing strained cycles and conjugated, double, and single bonds allows these approaches to be applied for studying other molecules.
