Аннотация: Single crystals of (NH4)3HfF7 were grown. Polarising optical observations as well as measurement of the heat capacity and birefringence Δn(Т) were performed in the temperature range of 200–310 K. Reversible phase transitions at temperatures T0 = 290 K, Т1 = 280.5 K, Т2 ≈ 273 K, Т3 = 266 K, Т4 = 259 K, Т5 = 231 K, Т6 = 229 K were found. Observations in polarised light make it possible to suggest a sequence of changes in the symmetry groups for these transitions: Fm3m ⟵Т0→ cub. ⟵Т1→ mmm (1) ⟵Т2→ mmm (2) ⟵Т3→ mmm (3) ⟵Т5→ 2/c. The T-p phase diagram was studied and the temperature boundaries of the stability of the distorted crystalline phases were determined. A significant change of the entropy at successive phase transitions ΣΔS = 10.6 J/mol K indicates a disordering of the initial cubic phase.

Аннотация: We have investigated the magnetic ground state in CuB2O4, copper metaborate, by means of neutron diffraction and muSR measurements. At T-N = 21 K CuB2O4 undergoes a second-order phase transition from a paramagnetic to an antiferromagnetic commensurate state followed by a second transition at T* = 10 K where the two magnetic sublattices form a soliton lattice, as reported earlier. We give a detailed analysis of the magnetic structure in the commensurate phase which is found to be different from the one published recently. New experimental results are presented which show the existence of a third transition below T approximate to 1.8 K. The magnetic structure remains incommensurate at very low temperatures, but a re-distribution of the magnetic intensities is observed in the neutron diffraction data set which suggests that the phases between the Cu2+ spins are changed. Аннотация: Single crystals of germanium double salt (NH4)3GeF7 = (NH4)2GeF6·NH4F = (NH4)3[GeF6]F were grown and studied by the methods of polarization optics and X-ray diffraction. The birefringence Δn = (no − ne), the rotation angle of the optical indicatrix ϕ(T) and unit cell parameters were measured in the temperature range 100–400 K. Three structural phase transitions were found at the temperatures: T1↓ = 279.2 K (T1↑ = 279.4 K), T2↑ = 270 K (T2↓ = 268.9 K), T3↓ = 218 K (T3↑ = 227 K). An unusual sequence of symmetry transformations with temperature change was established: P4/mbm (Z = 2) (G1) ↔ Pbam (Z = 4) (G2) ↔ P21/c (Z = 4) (G3) ↔ Pa (Z = 8) (G4). The crystal structures of different phases were determined. The experimental data were additionally interpreted by a group-theoretical analysis of the complete condensate of order parameters taking into account the critical and noncritical atomic displacements. Strengthening of the N–H⋯F hydrogen bonds can be a driving force of the observed phase transitions.

Аннотация: The dielectric spectra of moist specimens of bentonitic clay are measured within the frequency range from 1 to 15 GHz at positive and negative temperatures. The phase transitions in different types of water present in the clay specimen are investigated in the process of its freezing. The parameters of dielectric relaxation and conductivity of different water types in the specimen are determined. A thermal dielectric model for thawed and frozen bentonitic clay is developed.

Аннотация: This Letter studies the dynamics of transitions between the levels of a Wannier-Stark ladder induced by a resonant periodic driving. The analysis of the problem is done in terms of resonance quasienergy states, which take into account the metastable character of the Wannier-Stark states. It is shown that the periodic driving creates from a localized Wannier-Stark state an extended Bloch-like state with a spatial length varying in time as similar to t(1/2). Such a state can find applications in the field of atomic optics because it generates a coherent pulsed atomic beam. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The Raman spectra of the elpasolite (Rb2KInF6) crystal have been studied in the pressure range from 0 to 5.3 GPa at a temperature of 295 K. A phase transition at a pressure of approximately 0.9 GPa has been found. An analysis of the variations in the spectral parameters has led to the conclusion that the phase transition to a distorted phase is accompanied by the doubling of the volume of the primitive cell of the initial cubic phase. Numerical calculations of the lattice dynamics in the Rb2KInF6 crystal have been performed. The numerical simulation has established that the phase transition at a pressure of 0.9 GPa is associated with condensation of the F (lg) mode. A probable high-pressure phase is the phase with space group C2/m.

Аннотация: Solid solutions in the Cs-x(NH4)(1 - x)LiSO4 (0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.35) system are grown and investigated. The birefringence (n(a) - n(b)) and the heat capacity are measured in the temperature range 100-530 K. The (x-T) phase diagram is constructed. It is demonstrated that the substitution of cesium for ammonium in the NH4LiSO4 crystal affects the transition temperatures in such a way that the region of the ferroelectric phase increases and the ferroelastic phase disappears at x 0.22. The character of the high-temperature transition remains unchanged (2beta = 0.24 +/- 0.01 for all compositions), but the birefringence anomaly and enthalpy decrease. As the concentration x increases, the low-temperature transition becomes more similar to a first-order transition: the birefringence jump deltan and the temperature hysteresis DeltaT increase. Аннотация: To describe the ferroelectric phase transition in ordered and disordered PbSc0.5Ta0.5O3 (PST) and PbSc0.5Nd0.5O3 (PSN) solid solutions, a model Hamiltonian is written in the local-mode approximation, in which long-range dipole-dipole and short-range interactions of local modes are taken into account. The Hamiltonian parameters are determined from the set of energies of a series of distorted structures, calculated within the nonempirical generalized Gordon-Kim model. The statistical mechanics of the systems with a model Hamiltonian is investigated by the Monte Carlo method. It is revealed that PSN solid solutions undergo a transition to the ferroelectric rhombohedral phase through an intermediate phase, existing in a narrow temperature range. Аннотация: Possible variants of the Mott–Hubbard phase transitions at high pressure in systems with spin cross-overs are considered. Owing to the universal character of the dependence of the effective Hubbard parameterUeff(dn) on the average number of d electrons, which is determined by the presence of spin crossovers, cascadesof insulator–metal–insulator phase transitions in systems with d3, d6, and d8 configurations become possible.Moreover, the systems with d6 configuration can exhibit transitions from a metal in the absence of external pres-sure to an insulator at high pressure.

Аннотация: Thermal atomic vibrations in the cubic phase of Cs//2NaNdCl//6 single crystal undergoing the structural phase transition (PT) at 138 K are investigated from the data of X-ray diffraction obtained at 278, 218, and 148 K. A significant anisotropy of thermal vibrations and their deviations from harmonic behavior are found for the Cl-atoms of the structure. These atoms displace from their equilibrium positions below PT due to the tilts of the octahedral groups.

Аннотация: The investigations of the crystal structure, magnetic and electronic properties of Co3BO5 at high temperatures were carried out using powder X-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and thermopower measurements. The orthorhombic symmetry (Sp.gr. Pbam) was observed at 300 K and no evidence of structural phase transitions was found up to 1000 K. The compound shows a strong anisotropy of the thermal expansion. A large negative thermal expansion along the a-axis is observed over a wide temperature range (T = 300–600 K) with αa = −35 M K−1 at T = 500 K with simultaneous expansion along the b- and c-axes with αb = 70 M K−1 and αc = 110 M K−1, respectively. The mechanisms of thermal expansion are explored by structural analysis. The activation energy of the conductivity decreases significantly above 700 K. Electronic transport was found to be a dominant conduction mechanism in the entire temperature range. The correlations between the thermal expansion, electrical resistivity, and effective magnetic moment were revealed and attributed to the evolution of the spin state of Co3+ ions towards the spin crossover and gradual charge-ordering transition.

Аннотация: The role of anisotropy of the thermal expansion in formation of piezocaloric effect (PCE) near ferroelectric phase transitions in NH4HSO4 was studied. Strong difference in linear baric coefficients and as a result in intensive and extensive PCE associated with the different crystallographic axes was found. PCE giving the main contribution to the barocaloric effect were determined at both phase transitions. Rather strong effect of the lattice dilatation on the tuning of PCE was observed. Comparative analysis of PCE at the phase transitions in different materials showed that NH4HSO4 can be considered as a promising solid-state refrigerant. A hypothetical cooling cycle based on alternate using uniaxial pressure along two axes was considered.

Аннотация: Based on the periodic Anderson model, microscopic expressions for the Ginzburg–Landau expansion coefficients in a phase with superconducting and antiferromagnetic order parameters are obtained. Temperature dependences of the order parameters near the temperature of the transition to this phase are established. The emergence of anomalous properties upon the quantum phase transition to the phase with two order parameters is investigated. This transition is accompanied by drastic reconstruction of the density of states, reflected by the interplay between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism. © 2016, Allerton Press, Inc.
